Politico reports today that “buzz is already beginning to build” about a possible film based on former press secretary Scott McClellan’s tell-all book. “We’ve been talking to TV people, and interest is starting to come, but it’s too early to say anything,” McClellan’s literary agent told Politico. The film could compliment other Bush-based movies, including Oliver Stone’s “W”, starring Josh Brolin as the 43rd president.
And, oh, by the way. Barack Obama was declared the presumptive Democratic nominee for President of the United States.
June 4th, 2008 at 9:49 amWhat? Obama? Hmmm, maybe Think Progress should consider a post.
June 4th, 2008 at 9:51 amBarack. Barack. Barack. Let's hijack another thread! IOKIYNAT ("it's okay if you're not a troll").
Come on, TP. When are you going to get the message?
June 4th, 2008 at 9:52 amStarring John Levitz as Karl Rove.
June 4th, 2008 at 9:56 am"...staring Josh Brolin..." What is Josh Brolin staring at?
And congratulations to Barack Obama for his history-making winning of the Democratic Presidential nomination. Right, TP?
June 4th, 2008 at 9:57 amUpdate: all parts in the McClellan miniseries to be played by the stars of The Office (US). Steve Carell as W, Rainn Wilson as McClellan.
June 4th, 2008 at 9:57 amNote to our community of commenters:
We’re not trying to hide the fact that Obama is now the Democratic nominee. It’s news you can learn anywhere. It’s just not the type of thing we cover – never have. I challenge you to find where we did a post on John McCain becoming the GOP nominee.
Contrary to some peoples' opinions, TP is not an advocacy arm for or against any particular candidate. We’re happy to promote agendas that we agree with, and criticize those we disagree with. That’s our mission.
Because of our tax status issues, we’ve avoided taking sides in the primary contest. You can go to any number of sites to find political coverage, but hopefully you’ll come to us for the substantive coverage that many of the mainstream outlets aren’t doing.
June 4th, 2008 at 10:03 amI propose James Gandolfini to play McLellan. Put a goofy Repub-style toupee on him, tell him not to use that confident sneer, lose the tan and he would be the spitting image!
p.s. Heartfelt congratulations to Senator Obama on his decisive victory last night and becoming our nominee for President! Today begins the Nation's healing. I agree with many here today in feeling that Hillary is not deserving of the VP slot. If you want her somewhere useful and to throw her a bone how about nominating her for the Supreme Court? That would REALLY make Boehner cry!
June 4th, 2008 at 10:05 amOh, I heard Dubya was going to be played by Bill Murray in a reprise of his role in Caddyshack. Saddam Hussein will be played by the gopher.
June 4th, 2008 at 10:06 amAre they calling it "McTellin' "?
June 4th, 2008 at 10:06 amJust keep away that right-wing writer/water carrier, Cyrus Nowrasteh, from the project.
June 4th, 2008 at 10:07 amPlease, please, please, Puhleeaze, let the director be a longtime Bush hater, and let him/her take certain aspects of the book out of context to support his/her agenda.
June 4th, 2008 at 10:09 amPlease?
I want the right to be outraged, just so I (and others) can
happily say these words: Path to 9/11! Path to 9/11! (or whatever the title to the dum bass mythical "docudrama" on ABC was).
Jack Nicholson as Cheney. He plays evil so well.
June 4th, 2008 at 10:09 amMcClellan-based ‘docudrama’ in the works.
Goofy and Pluto have already finely honed their imitations of Chimpy and Cheney ........
June 4th, 2008 at 10:09 amIt might take a film to capture the attention of Americans -- I think most of them lost the ability to read books quite some time ago (except for Garfield strip collections).
It's a pity that news has to be packaged as entertainment before anyone notices it.
Oh, and by the way -- congratulations to Barack Obama for clinching enough delegates for the nomination last night.
June 4th, 2008 at 10:11 amBy the way Faiz,
June 4th, 2008 at 10:11 amObama being nominated is "progressive news" as we support his agenda.
Just sayin'
OT
June 4th, 2008 at 10:12 amHere's a weird one:
The Change sign in front of Mr. Obama during his speech was blue.
This morning on the local cbs channel, they had changed the color of that sign only, to green. All of the signs in the crowd were still blue. Immediately after a short clip of his speech came a really disgusting clip of McBrainless with of course, the green background. I'm not making this up. I guess I just felt the need to tell someone that I had seen this weird occurrence.

We certainly see threads criticizing McCain - do you not at TP see anything worth promoting in Obama's agenda?

Oh, come now. You KNOW that pointing out double-standards to the IOKIYAR crowd is an exercise in futility...
June 4th, 2008 at 10:13 amNope. I believe Arnold Ziffel is perfect to play Karl Rove. He is one charmin' mother f'in' pig!

I think the oliver stone one is enough, releasing this october…

besides, stone did a pretty fair and accurate portrayal of nixon, I think this should be the same, atleast if you want to see a real film.

To accurately portray the Chimpy administration , one would only need run the reel of the Hindenburg or the ski jumper from the intro of Wide World of Sports.....
June 4th, 2008 at 10:16 amI'm sorry, one more, and I'll be done (hopefully):
June 4th, 2008 at 10:19 amFaiz, Obama is the first person of mixed ethnicity to lead his party to the presidency. Never EVER in our country's 200 + history has this ever happened!
If that is not progress (albeit fairly damn slow), I don't know what is.
Acknowledgment (without showing support) would be greatly appreciated.
Just sayin'

In his version, Sandy Berger refuses to give authorization for airport security to confiscate Mohammed Atta's boxcutter.

Before editing , Bill Clinton was the Unabomber .........And the 2nd gunman on the grassy knoll.
June 4th, 2008 at 10:28 amSean McCormak, State Dept. mouthpiece, looks like Scott McLelland's 'evil twin brother'. Seriously. Picture him with a little more hair & he's a ringer for Scotty.
I'm not suggesting he should play that role, by the way. In fact, I guess I really don't have a point here...
June 4th, 2008 at 10:40 amDoes McClellan mention Obama clinching the Democratic Nomination?
June 4th, 2008 at 10:52 am#27 Ranting Tommy,
June 4th, 2008 at 10:55 amLMAO
I nominate Michael Emerson of Lost to play Scooter Libby. Having had the pleasure to appear in a couple Shakespear plays with him I know he'll do a great job. I'll volunteer to play Hagee (I was a priest in one of those plays). I have a weird sense of humor and know how to channel my negative feelings for my ex-wife into any character I play.
June 4th, 2008 at 10:58 amI'm sorry, I got that wrong. The Caddyshack gopher will play Osama bin Laden. Saddam Hussein will be portrayed by David Janssen.
June 4th, 2008 at 10:59 am.
Movie deals, book deals, interview circuits ...
More money to be had by members of this Administration.
And if it isn't the members making the money, Corporate America still is eager to make a buck...
... But who's accountable for the crimes glamorized?
.
June 4th, 2008 at 11:41 amWho gets Roves part in the film? Porky Pig?
June 4th, 2008 at 12:08 pmWhen I heard about McClellan meeting Richard Clark and apologizing, that sounded to me like a cinematic moment. It will be a difficult story to do well, but the raw material is there.
I just hope they don't make Scotty out to be some martyr, struggling from within against an evil regime. A story of a decent but slow-witted idealist who struggles with misgivings while supposedly serving his country would be the best way to go, IMHO.
June 4th, 2008 at 12:42 pmI knew a movie would be in the making. The little buckeroo Scotty's book made for TV: *h*t Happened.

Sorry, I don't see the folks responsible for The Path To 911 producing a film critical of the GOP. I'm also not sure it will find an audience. Republicans and conservatives alike won't want to see a film based on a tome by a "snitch." Progressives like myself won't want to relive the nightmare or put cash in Scotty's pocket.
Perhaps we're all a little too thrilled that a former member of Bush's bubble crew wrote a tell-all critical of Der Preznit. This reminds me of the overall liberal response when the dreaded Andrew Sullivan had his "come to Jesus" moment. Just because Scotty's confirmed what we already suspected and is now saying what we all want to hear doesn't mean he's speaking the gospel truth. It pains me greatly that Jon Stewart's Scott McClellan interview was in many ways the most hard hitting I've seen thus far.
