At least in my own experience, that’s the same definition that most other people are using when they refer to the Founding Fathers — I can’t say that I’ve ever seen anyone use it in reference to the colonists of Jamestown or the Pilgrims (although I know some people use the term Pilgrim Fathers), probably because those people would all have died by the time of the Revolution. The Jamestown colonists and the Pilgrims may have established the Colonies which eventually became the United States, but they themselves were not directly involved in the fight for our independence and the establishment of our government.
