Fitzgerald indicates he may be ready to testify on Rove’s efforts to push him out.»

In the past, Special Prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald has refused to answer questions about whether officials such as Karl Rove tried to push him out during his investigation into the leak of Valerie Plame’s CIA identity. He cited a “trial ongoing in the Northern District of Illinois.” Marcy Wheeler notes that after yesterday’s verdict in the Tony Rezko case, Fitzgerald indicated he may now be ready to testify:

gitz.jpg Later in the Rezko trial, two witnesses said that Rezko told them not to worry about the criminal investigation, because the Republicans—Rove and Kjellander—would get rid of Fitzgerald. Hastert would install a friendly federal puppy who wouldn’t bother the Combine, according to the testimony. “The federal prosecutor will no longer be the same federal prosecutor,” testified Elie Maloof, a Rezko associate who is now a cooperating witness. […]

If I owe a response [about the putsch to remove him from his job], I owe it to Congress, first,” Fitzgerald said when asked about all this after the verdict.

This could very well be our next Attorney General.

    Think about that.

Do you believe ‘Fitz’ took kindly to the US Attorney purge by turdblossom? What do you suppose he might do if, backed by an Obamam admin, they turned him loose with an investigation.

Heather Wilson, Pete Dominici, KKKarl Rove, John Ashcroft, et al should be (thanks, BnF), afwaid, vewy afwaid.

Which just about sums up the BushCo regime!

It’s starting to look like Fitz-mas…

  5. CitiDC Says:

TPM Muckraker had this story on April 23rd:

Rove Attorney: Sure, People Wanted Fitzgerald Canned, But Rove Never Followed Up

I spoke to Luskin just now, and he said that his statement ought to be qualified a bit: his statement on Kgellander stands as is, he said, but during the independent counsel investigation, he said, Rove was “frequently” approached about canning Fitzgerald: “a number of people approached Karl and suggested that Fitzgerald be removed because of the alleged politicization of the investigation.

So very convenient, Karl, that OTHER (unnamed) people had motivation to remove Fitzgerald too… And not just you. Sure, Karl. Sure.

Fitzgerald would make an excellent Attorney General! There are also a couple of Senators that would be great (Feingold and Whitehouse), but I really don’t want any senators to be tapped for anything, including VP at this point. We need a large majority there, as well as in the House.

  8. Zimzone Says:

I wasn’t aware that Fitz had been leading the Rezco trial. I’m not clear on where turdblossom comes into the picture, either.

I’m looking forward to reading more about this.

  9. misshusseinmolly Says:

He “may” be ready to testify? What’s it going to take to push him over a little bit more into the “is” ready to testify column?

It’s a good sign that the iron grip Bushco formerly had on everybody around them seems to be weakening. Perhaps we will have more people magically finding their voice and stepping up to the plate (yes, I know my metaphors are all over the map).

  10. spencers mom Says:

It’s far more important that Congress send Fitzgerald after Bush, Cheney and Rove and finish the investigation into the outing of a CIA agent working on WMD. Scott McClellan could be his first stop, #1 in “connect the dots”.

    PEACE

What a tangled web that Rove guy weaves. His sticky tendrils are everywhere aren’t they?

Could this explain why Fitz didn’t pursue Rove in the Plame investigation? That Rove could say that Fitz was not impartial because he had an axe to grind?

What a weird defense, KKKarl did something illegal aimed at Fitz, so Fitzcan’t investigate the illegal KKKarl may have done in this case.

And that folks, is the classic strawman. I spin a theory from whole cloth then tear it down. How trollish of me.

    @ Zimzone

Several Rezko trial players, including Rezko himself, lined up with Karl Rove’s good buddy Bob Kjellander. Kjellander was a force in IL state GOP politics, as well as former treasurer of the RNC.

Anyway, Karl comes into the picture because he arranged for Kjellander, Rezko and two others to come to a White House Holiday Party on December 3, 2003.

He testified he had received an invitation from Springfield lobbyist Robert Kjellander, former treasurer of the Republican National Committee, to attend a White House Christmas party on Dec. 3, 2003.

This is just before Kjellander, Rezko’s and the others’ political patron, Governor George Ryan of Illinois, was going to go down under Fitzgerald’s prosecution for illegal kickbacks. Ryan gave them a lot of business.

  13. Jackie Says:

For those who followed the trial we know just when the AG and White House moved in. Once Gonzales had a meeting with Judge Walton/Fitzgerald the move was on. Due to the case it was hard to out right fire Fitz, so as Wells said it court Libby was left to hang. Then came the unexpected. Rove testified 4 times to the Grand Jury. Once Rove’s Lawyer found out a witness gave information that clearly contradicted Rove, he quickly asked for Rove to go back to the Grand Jury. The Grand Jury found probable cause for Rove to go to trial. Fitzgerald announced that Rove had 48 hours to get his affairs in order. Then the White House/AG stepped in to make sure Karl’s case didn’t go to trial. Pat was the Special Prosecutor but to save Karl Rove, Attorney General Gonzales and White House stopped the case. Most of us could tell from Pat’s behavior there was interference in the case and even Judge Walton knew it. Karl had to be saved at all cost and later the White House stepped in to make sure Libby didn’t go to jail. Judges are still researching the White House’s actions with the Libby case.

Wait — I think Rezko was Obama’s bestest buddy?

Now we find out that he was chummy with KKKarl?

    Oops.

Well written synopsis of the Plame affair Jackie. Thanks for the refresher and reminder of the chess game that summer.

  17. Zimzone Says:

    CitiDC, Jackie
Thanks for posting the sordid details.

I can’t say I’m surprised. I was aware of Ryan, Fitz being the Chicago US Attorney, but never figured how turdblossom got his sticky dickey little fingers into ‘it’.

Couple this with McClelland’s nod to Rove in the Plame affair, and we may smell ‘roast pig’ in ‘09!

    Have you seen the well-to-do
    Upon Pennsylvania Avenue
    On that famous thoroughfare
With their noses in the air

Highjinks and crimes of white collars
    Seeking power and unearned dollars
    Spending every dime
    For a wonderful time

    If you’re blue
And you don’t know where to go to
Why don’t you go where justice flits
    Puttin’ on the Fitz
    Treason crooks with free passes
Throw the books and jail their a**es
    All misfits
    Puttin’ on the Fitz

  19. Keith H. Says:

    Mostly off topic.
You know when you have one of those days that we all have, when every little thing just goes right, when everything you touch seems to turn to gold, every ball you hit finds the goal ?
Well, let there be a summer full of those days, this year.
A summer when these bastards get what’s coming to them.

  20. tanglewood Says:

Fitzgerald is so squeaky clean and he is so widely respected that the congress will definitely want to have a nice chat with him. The Republicons will be unable to stop this from happening and they won’t have a lick of evidence against Fitzgerald. All he does is work, work and more work. He could be a partner at any top firm in the country and pull down a very high 6 or even 7 figure salary yet, it is his love of prosecution and trial work that keeps him going.

Also, he is independent. Patrick Leahey pick up the phone now and call him!

  26. dballance Says:

Rove will never see the inside of a court room. On January 19th, 2009 Bush will pardon him for all his crimes. Will that stick? Can a President pardon the crimes of his minions in order to cover his own ass?

Another constitutional crisis brought to us by Bushco.

  27. nomorelies Says:

    SCREW THAT!!!!!!!!!!

    http://www.afterdowningstreet.org/cheney
We’ll just finish IMPEACHING if that even came close to happening!!!!

Look at the Courts decision on the subpoenas for Karl Rove. If the Court rejects the moron Cheney’s unitary executive theory, all 3 of the aides will be forced to testify.

Then its WHAM-BAM- IMPEACH AND PRISON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
