McCain website posts commentary calling Hillary Clinton a ‘B*tch.’

Recently, Sen. John McCain has been reaching out to Sen. Hillary Clinton’s (D-NY) supporters by lavishing praise on Clinton. But a “news article” posted on McCain’s website may undermine those efforts. The “article,” which is actually a reader’s comment made at Andrew Sullivan’s Daily Dish, refers to Clinton as “the B*tch“:

Fred Thompson is good but pointless. He clearly doesn’t want to be in this race. His wife must really want to be First Lady. Paul is hopeless. Huckabee is at least sincere, but I just feel that nominating him is tantamount to giving away the store. He’s a big-government liberal with the compassion of Jimmy Carter and a nanny-state busybody of the highest order. I’d rather have the Bitch. At least she’d balance the budget. You know, like her husband did.

This isn’t the first time McCain has been associated with such insulting descriptions of Clinton. In 2007, after a supporter asked him “how do we beat the b*tch,” McCain replied “that’s an excellent question.” (HT: Americablog)

Well, he did call his wife a c*nt.

This news should solve the problem of getting the Clinton Feminists to vote for Obama...

Where is Bill-O with his fake outrage?!!?

  3. misshusseinmolly Says:

I'm sure this will go over very well with Hillary's female supporters. They have already seen what a friend they have in McCain through the names he calls his wife in public, the way he disposed of his ex-wife, and his lack of support for Lilly Ledbetter. This is just icing on the cake.

Granted, this news article was written by somebody else -- not McCain. But why put it on your website if you don't agree with it?

  4. Dr. Hussein Matt Says:

Hillary supporters.....you still want to vote for McGrampa now?

  5. RUCerious Says:

un ~ Exactly, you beat me to it.

Anyone who would publicly call their wife the c word deserves to have it shoved up his jowls daily. Or even in private, for that matter. Gotta wonder if McIIIrd has his own private trowel for slathering on his makeup. That pasty complexion can't be for real...

  12. unbelievable Says:

Conservatves think so little of women that they probably don't understand why this is so offensive. It's not like you can call a wealthy white man anything of equal inflammation.

America is the ONLy industrialized nation without Equal Rights Laws. As a result (studies have proven a direct correlation), we have a higher murder rate, more people in jail, higher unemployment, higher infant mortality, higher teenage pregnancy rates, higher STD rates, and higher disease rates than all other Industrialized Nations.

Do we really want to perpetuate that by electing another rich, old, white man who doesn't get it?

  14. McWars Says:

I believe maybe 5% of Hillary supporters will ultimately vote for McCain, the people who only cared about the election to see Hillary run. I'm comforted by the new voters offsetting any minor damage.

  16. Freedom Rebel Says:

John McCain is one of only a few Senators to earn a Zero percent lifetime rating from Planned Parenthood’s Action Fund, and he only scored that high because the organization doesn’t have a lower rating…. Let’s look at his record:

He voted against requiring health care plans to cover birth control (3/22/03).

He voted against comprehensive, medically accurate sex education (7/25/06).

He voted against international family planning funding (3/14/96).

He voted against funding to prevent teen and unintended pregnancies (3/17/05).

He voted against public education for emergency contraception (3/17/05).

And he voted against restoring Medicaid funding that could be used for family planning for low-income women (3/17/05).

If after looking at all that, a woman would vote for John McCain must also remember his most recent quote in February. McCain dismisses equal pay legislation, says "women need more ‘training and education.’"

That would be the clincher, he basically is saying a woman deserves less than a man. What a complete neanderthal...

    Excellent post!

I'm not trying to insult the men here, because you know you're all expections :), but back when I was in architecture, I have to say that the women in my field were not only highly educated, but more often the best (most reliable, knowledgable, and hard-working) team members to work with. Yet, they (and I) were always paid less than the men.

  21. liberal traitor Says:

    rogers:

No, my good chum, the issue here is the fact that, as you right-wingers are always so happy to do to the left, by having this statement on his website he is effectively saying it's ok to just run around calling Hillary a b1tch, he's totally fine with it.

The difference between this and the attacks on left-wing blogs from the right, is in the case of the blogs the offending comments were left by people not associated with the blog itself, and as there are hundreds if not thousands of comments a day, it's impossible to remove all the offensive ones.

In McCain's case, they CHOSE to put this up on their website. They saw the word "b1tch" and said, "Eh, no biggie." This is coming from McSame, the candidate who said he wasn't going to tolerate personal attacks on Obama or Clinton coming from his campaign. He was going to run a civil campaign, remember?

Not so much now then, eh?

The outrage would be the same if he had used the word "cvnt" and you know it.

The issue is not the guy's article, he can write whatever he wants, freedom of speech, press, and all that.

The issue is that McCain, Mr. "I'm going to run a civil campaign" blah blah blah, has on his website something that refers to one of his possible opponents at the time as a b1tch. There are no Christian Values as all those don't follow God's word in Honor your Mother and Father. Religion is used for votes as Freshman Senator Obama used race. But at least we can work with him and prod him in the right direction. John McCain is not someone who can be told what to do except by Dick Cheney and Karl Rove. And Obama respects women and people in general. I see no respect for anyone from McCain.

First -- "b*tch" isn't a "somewhat generic term", it's an insult used against women, particularly women who are smart, strong, express their opinions freely, etc., and the term is generally used when people can't best the woman in an argument any other way.

Second, there's no way to use that kind of insult in a "positive light". Anyone who would see this item's use of the term in a positive light would probably have no problem with the phrase "good little (N word)" to describe a black person in a positive light.

As far as criticizing the article -- I could, but since it's just a reader comment to Andrew Sullivan from six months ago, I hardly see the point. The issue I see here is that McCain seems to be carrying this offensive tripe proudly on his website, and "why?" is a fair question.

You need to go back and read unbelievable's post. She said conservatives, not conservative politicians, think little of women. She then said many of the ills of our country are due to lack of an Equal Rights Amendment. That's not limited to just the behavior of conservative politicians.
Even had your comment been vaild, that doesn't excuse vile comments directed by libs against women who are conservative. Such comments are either acceptable or they are not, regardless of the politics of the women at whom they are directed. Someone calling you a bad name doesn't excuse the hypocrisy.

Citizens for McCain is an organization within the McCain campaign for people who put country before political party and support the candidate for President who has a proven record of bipartisanship.

I have worked with John McCain for many years in the U.S. Senate and know from experience that he can unite Democrats, Republicans and Independents like no one else in this country. He did it in the United States Senate and he can do it as President of the United States.

Thank you for your willingness to help me expand this new organization. Together, we will make history.

Obama supporters - including yourself - said the same thing, and Obama never chastised them. Surrogate dirty politics is the same slimy politics as usual. Obama and his followers have a long way to go, and a lot of apologies, before MOST of the serious Hillary supporters will follow through for Obama. Me, I’m boycotting Obama in November for his vote stealing of FL&MI. You might win over Hillary supporters, but pretending you aren’t as inflammatory as McCain after the last few months of proof to the contrary is a losing strategy…

And I've heard Hillary supporters say awful things about Obama, and Hillary never chastised them either. Also you seem to forget things like "He's not a Muslim...as far as I know." Any thoughts on that little gem from Hillary?

Dirty surrogate smears were part and parcel of Hillary's campaign as well dude, she is by no means clean or innocent. NONE OF THEM ARE. Obama's vote-stealing? Yeah, because his was the final and only word on that. Hillary signed onto the same rules he did, and when they didn't work in her favor she wanted to just toss them aside.

Obama is the nominee, get over it. If you want to not vote (and therefore be a moron) then fine, that is your right. Personally, I would have voted for Hillary even if she had "won" because she's a damn sight better than McCain, I would hope Hillary supporters would be equally as mature. I can see you're not, but I think plenty of your fellow Hillary-ites (not meant to be derogatory, honest) feel differently than you do.

Have the same class your candidate did, concede, move on from the past, and help elect Obama.

    misshusseinmolly Says:
First — “b*tch” isn’t a “somewhat generic term”, it’s an insult used against women, particularly women who are smart, strong, express their opinions freely, etc., and the term is generally used when people can’t best the woman in an argument any other way.
    *****

Yet you Obamaheads used that term to describe Hillary for months - why the sudden pretense of a conscience? Obama won, so now you can pretend to have morals again? Get over yourself! You’re no different than McCain in your hatred for Hillary and your willingness to be sexist!
    ___________________________________________

I challenge you to find any instance where I EVER referred to Hillary as a "b*tch". I do not use that term when referring to women (or anybody, for that matter), as I find it extremely sexist.

Furthermore, I have kept my criticism of Hillary to the issues and the way she has conducted her campaign. As have most of the posters here. There have been some here who have hurled gratuitous insults at her without any substance, but they are in the minority. I guess those are the only posts that leap out at you, and from those, you have extrapolated that we all spent our time calling Hillary a "b*tch" 24/7.

And lastly, preferring Obama over Hillary is not necessarily a sexist position, just as prefering Hillary over Obama is not necessarily a racist one. I am a proud feminist who would be delighted to see a woman president, but I refuse to vote for a candidate for that reason alone.

By the way, since we are speaking of insulting terms for women, you're a fine one to talk. You called me a "c*nt" (you called Zooey that also), and you never apologized for it, so as far as I'm concerned, you have no moral high ground yourself.

  86. Shayne Says:

So RHF, you have no problem with the racism of Clinton's supporters but you're all bent out of shape by the sexism you see. How very "white" of you.

  87. Shayne Says:

There is something wrong with people who compare the Clinton and Obama campaigns and think that the Obama people fought dirty. I guess those people would think McCain was a great guy.

I never said anything about you calling names.
Hillary was not my candidate. I'm voting for Obama. As for calling you a c*nt, it wouldn't have quite the same effect as when it is directed at a woman, now would it? And that was the point of unbelievable's post and my response. She commented on conservative disrespect for woman and its detrimental effects on society. I simply pointed out that there is ample evidence of the same thing on TP, but the outrage over it seems to be lacking. Apparently it's ok if you're a lib. By "your comment" I meant when you said "we aren't running for president." That doesn't make it ok for those who made comments degrading to women.
