A new reelection ad released by Sen. James Inhofe (R-OK) proclaims:
Ethiopia, Zambia, Iraq. 29 intense trips in 12 years to the front — to the saddest parts of Africa — to quietly get to know the leaders.
Spencer Ackerman at the Washington Independent reports the obvious (but not to all) kicker: “IRAQ IS NOT IN AFRICA.” Watch it:
The halting and stilted campaign ad ends bizarrely with a question: “Jim Inhofe did that?” An oddly-appropriate question.
Does this mean that we WOULDN’T have attacked Iraq if they actually knew it was in the Middle East, not Africa?
Better get a new map…
OT, Keith is leading with Kucinich’s impeachment articles.

June 10th, 2008 at 8:22 pmMay be Inhofe believes Africa is in Iraq…instead!!
June 10th, 2008 at 8:25 pmIraq IS in Africa, when viewed from inside the anus.
June 10th, 2008 at 8:28 pmSorry about the O/T:
You may want to check out how Larry Johnson’s blog has changed from a sort of non-partisan investigative one into Freeperland II. It’s sole purpose now is to completely annihilate Barack Obama. You wouldn’t believe the hate and vile comments amassing up there, it’s like wading through a cesspool. My guess is Johnson is on the Hillary payroll. I am so glad I didn’t vote for her.
I bring this up particularly here because you are on his blogroll, so I thought you’d want to know.

If I were you, I’d want no part of that mess. Just sayin’.

O/T On CSpan the clerk is reading the 35 articles of Impeachment right now and they had text at the bottom of the screen about they could be voting on this resolution on Wednesday. I will have C-Span on all day tomorrow to see if they do.

Do you believe President Bush’s actions justify impeachment? * 609652 responses
Yes, between the secret spying, the deceptions leading to war and more, there is plenty to justify putting him on trial.
89%
No, like any president, he has made a few missteps, but nothing approaching “high crimes and misdemeanors.”
4.1%
No, the man has done absolutely nothing wrong. Impeachment would just be a political lynching.
4.9%
I don’t know.

Do all Republicans assume we know absolutely nothing about geography? Talk about dumbing down your ad campaign.
Here let me insult your intelligence while you watch my ad for re-election. Not a very good strategy, they need to rethink this one.
June 10th, 2008 at 8:43 pmMust be Ronnette Burgundy reading the copy.

Thanks Wayne!!!
June 10th, 2008 at 8:49 pmPerhaps Inhofe is a denier of global climate change because he doesn’t know geography.
He hears about the melting polar ice caps, and thinks “well, I didn’t want to have to shovel my driveway today anyway!”
Idiots.

We should keep Bush ion office because it helps us politically.
Ignoring crimes and violations of the Constitution to be politically expedient would transform us into **shudder** Republicans.
Are you joking?
June 10th, 2008 at 8:58 pmFor those of you not paying attention, Mr. Inhofe has established himself as one of the leading idiots of the modern age. You can learn more about him from his forthcoming autobiography,”How I Survived Without a Brain.”
June 10th, 2008 at 9:03 pmI used to live in Oklahoma. They’ll actually belive Inhofe that Iraq is in Africa.
June 10th, 2008 at 9:03 pmToo hell (if that’s what you believe!) with Inhofe.
Is it not EXTRAORDINARY that not one major news office has reported Kucinch’s articles of impeachment? Simply unexplainable…. well for me anyway!
June 10th, 2008 at 9:04 pmCome on, the ad doesn’t say or imply that Iraq is in Africa.
Look at the text; even Bosnia is being mentioned. Do you want to suggest that he thinks Bosnia is in Africa as well?
This blog’s comment on the ad is hyper-critical, it overshot the mark.
June 10th, 2008 at 9:08 pmWhere is that young pagentlady mumbling something about needing more maps? Inhofe is a douche no matter how this has or has not been portrayed
June 10th, 2008 at 9:11 pmTo the front (ie, the front on the war on terror, Iraq) (comma – used to separate ideas) to the saddest parts of Africa. Two separate ideas. Two different continents.
I know it doesn’t fit the narrative, but I’m trying to help you here.
This is an out-of-service off ramp to partisanville. I’m waving my arms to get you to slow down.

MSNBC has been, KO did, and they have a report coming up on the one after, Abrams.
June 10th, 2008 at 9:13 pmInhofe is a well-known dipshit.

Billy, it’s easier to parody right wingers. Go back to RedState.com .
June 10th, 2008 at 9:21 pm“Billy” has been leaving little stick piles in all the threads. Mommy left the computer unattended again.
June 10th, 2008 at 9:24 pmI don’t believe the average GOPer even cares where any of those countries are anyway.
They’re all over there, in some place they couldn’t find on a map, if their life depended on it.
Plus all dark people are equally alien and scary to these GOP voters.
June 10th, 2008 at 9:24 pmOkay So I can threaten to feed JinJin his own testicles but I can’t call Inhofe a d-bag. What is up with that? Don’t even get me started with the word that sounds a lot like a knoll ize? As a science guy I use that word a lot
June 10th, 2008 at 9:24 pmoops! “Stink piles”. Not “stick piles”.
June 10th, 2008 at 9:25 pmAnd Inhofe landed on the moon and invented the telephone and saved the world from every boogeyman out there. This creep has no grasp of geography, science, or reality in any discipline.
His opponent is state senator Andrew Rice: http://andrewforoklahoma.com/

I personally take offense at this comment. I have lived most my life in Oklahoma. I was born here. Except for three years in the Army, Oklahoma has been my home. Not everyone in Oklahoma is ignorant. To make broad statements like this is not only offen sive, but also bigotted. You realize that Woody Guthrie, Will Rogers, and Carl Albert were from Oklahoma. As Will Rogers would have said, your leaving Oklahoma increased the states average IQ.
June 10th, 2008 at 9:49 pm>Not everyone in Oklahoma is ignorant.
Not everyone in the Klan really hates black people either.

June 10th, 2008 at 10:08 pmWe just had our first quality thunderstorm. It is just sort of winding down now. I might like to live in Oklahoma for this reason alone. June 10th, 2008 at 10:16 pmThat’s just not right. The critters and I have adopted a wonderfull personal Teribithia (how the hell is that spelled?). I wonder how the weather is for Billy? Maybe those chicks that “put out for progressives” are beach babes.

June 10th, 2008 at 10:25 pmI have no idea where literary references fall in the 20 questions schema.
June 10th, 2008 at 10:32 pmMethinks that “Billy”, having lit the bag and rung the bell, has now fled like a naughty little troll. Or Mommy got home from the bar and sent him to bed.
June 10th, 2008 at 10:33 pmBilly: Confession is good for the soul. Tell me about your transgressions in life before you became a progressive. How have your transgressions changed now that you are a progressive?
June 10th, 2008 at 10:38 pmBTW, do you think that the administration will use Inhofe’s geography to claim the missing billions are safe in “Iraq, Africa”? I suppose it would be more believable than “Atlantis”, “Thetans”, or “it just disappeared and no one knows where”.
June 10th, 2008 at 10:40 pmImhotep is confusing Iraq with Luxor, which is in Africa. Where he’s been buried for the last 3500 years before being resurrected for this bad movie he’s starring in.
June 10th, 2008 at 10:49 pmBillythevillageIdiot reminds me of a student I had in several programming classes about ten years ago.
He wasn’t a very good student, rarely turned in anything but a pile of crap for homework assignments. When pressed, he confessed to me that he was only at school ‘to meet chicks’ cause they did programmers…
Billy, is that you?
June 10th, 2008 at 10:51 pm“match in the gas tank… Boom Boom”
June 10th, 2008 at 10:55 pmStupidity certainly comes out the woodwork with the GOP. First McCain said that Putin is the German President and now Inhofe suggests Iraq is in Africa. What will be next? Bush won a Purple Heart?
June 10th, 2008 at 11:07 pmThis is another example of the lack of knowledge Americans have. John Kerry and McCain say the Iran President rules Iran. It’s the Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei who rules Iran. McCain says Putin is President of Germany. Need I tell anyone who is the German President and Putin is a President at all Russia has a new President. The reason the US is in this mess is because our Law Makers and their staff have no idea about the World. No wonder the show ” Are you smarter then a 5th grader” is such a it the kids know the answers.
June 10th, 2008 at 11:22 pmAll kidding aside, even without the failure to identify Iraq as separate from Africa, that last line makes this a horrendous ad. I’ve never run a political campaign but I’m pretty sure it’s a bad idea to express surprise that one has done good things in one’s own ads. It’s kinda like he came out and said: “I just changed the oil in my car. I’m as shocked as you to find out I can accomplish a simple, practical, technical task. If you reelect me? I just might overachieve and say something rational”.
June 10th, 2008 at 11:49 pmWe’re talking about Inhofe folks. Considering his other stands, don’t you feel bad for picking on the disabled ?
June 10th, 2008 at 11:50 pm.
Inhofe proves, once again, that an education is NOT a requirement to hold an elected Office.
.
June 11th, 2008 at 12:56 am.
Dear Oklahoma,
Does Inhofe’s lack of geography represent you?
.
June 11th, 2008 at 12:58 amFor Inhofe, all is in the eye of climate change denial.
That denial is in Iraq and not Africa.
June 11th, 2008 at 1:54 amMaybe facts and geography don’t matter in Oklahoma . . .
Or maybe he just figures why waste the research money on “ig-naught hicks”? . . . Oklahoma ranks 48th in per student expenditure and 48th in Teachers Salaries . . . and they keep sending this “nugget of wisdom” back to Washington . . .
June 11th, 2008 at 2:08 amJohn Kerry cracks me up. Not because he is actually funny. I just think his absurdity and willingness to make himself look like a jackass are exemplary.
June 11th, 2008 at 8:04 amHere’s Inhofe during testimony on Iraq:
“I have been to Iraq nine times in the past five years, so I can say with some authority that the past year has seen significant improvement, both in the security and political situation,” Senator Inhofe said. “I traveled to Iraq last May just prior to the implementation of the surge strategy, and have visited two times since, and each left me increasingly encouraged by what I witnessed.
here’s the link, check it out:
http://www.tulsatoday.com/newsdesk/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=1521&Itemid=2
Now it’s possible that after nine trips to Iraq that Inhofe thinks that Iraq is in Africa.
Or more likely, it’s possible liberals are a little too eager to exploit a gaffe that didn’t really occur, to fit the narrative of their world view.
While we’re on the subject: Inhofe has been to Iraq nine times. Obama, who I personally think is a great guy, has been there, what, once?
It would seem that if anyone needs a better understanding of geography and world events, it might be the frontrunner for arguably the most important job in the world.
June 11th, 2008 at 9:34 amThat’s probably why he’s never gotten banned. He’s too much fun. He’s like a whoopie cushion ata city council meeting.
June 11th, 2008 at 9:39 amA geography class casualty of No Child Left Behind.
June 11th, 2008 at 1:55 pmThis strikes me as dishonest. It’s very clear that the commercial is about “the front” and Africa. I see other sites jubilant about the same thing, but it just makes us look foolish, celebrating a goof that is not there.
Not saying Imhofe is a genius, just that we don’t have to underestimate folks. We can oppose them on facts, not silly smirks.
