Boehner blames ‘left-wing bloggers’ for impeachment efforts.

On Monday, Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D-OH) introduced 35 articles of impeachment against President Bush. Today, a spokesman for House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-OH) dismissed the call for impeachment as the efforts of “left-wing bloggers“:

This is just another example of the Democratic leadership in the House indulging trivial and silly conspiracy theories from left-wing bloggers, rather than working with Republicans to deal with the real issues facing the American people.

But impeachment is more popular than Boehner would like to admit. A July 2007 poll found that 46 percent of voters in favor beginning impeachment proceedings against President Bush. Furthermore, a 2005 poll said 42 percent of voters say that “if it is found that President Bush did not tell the truth about his reasons for going to war with Iraq, Congress should hold him accountable through impeachment.”

UpdateThe AP reports that in a 251-166 vote, "House members dispatched the measure to a committee on Wednesday - a procedure often used to kill legislation."

We knew it was to go nowhere; but that wasn't necessarily the point. It is now in the news and in the minds of Americans. Pelosi did the nation no favors when she announced impeachment being off the table (God, I hate that term). KO had Turley on last night for a scathing indictmdent of democrats and their enabling of the right side criminal behavior. History will treat very severly the dems on this issue. The GOP impeached Clinton over a private matter; I guess the rape and ruin of our nation doesn't quite rise to that type of outrage.

    DOUGH!

  6. Shayne Says:

WTF! Maybe Kuckinich should have initiated impeachment against Pelosi. Who exactly does SHE work for?

  7. stateofthedivision Says:

And watch how Boehner jumps on stories about James A. Johnson from those same left wingers. With all the spent ammo lying around, it's hard to tell which shell's which!

  8. ralph the wonder llama Says:

Keltoi, that's the best you can do? An advisor resigns BEFORE being accused of anything untoward is "stumbling out of the gate"?

Would you prefer he take the tried-and-true Republican route and not resign until AFTER accusations are leveled, or even better, after indictments are issued?

  9. Shayne Says:

The GOP impeached Clinton for lying about sex and still took the White House and control of congress. How exactly would proceeding with impeachment against an administration guilty of high crime be politically risky?
The Democrats will do nothing until the Rethugs steal another election and then they'll all stand around scratching their heads wonder what the hell heppened. They are worse than the GOP at this point.

  10. Marie Says:

Just how ignorant would we be if it were not for the liberal bloggers?
Left to the msm, the public, as we have seen, is woefully misinformed and disinformed. It has been through the left wing blogs where truth has been ferreted out and blasted as far as possible -- it has had limited success to date, but successful, yes. And the liberal blog is growing - the msm has been forced to acknowledge their tenacity and power in forcing them, the msm, to address at least some of the important issues, which they otherwise were only too happy to oblige Bush&Co.

  16. upside99 Says:

    Marie,

Exactly! BushCo and the NeoCons have treated the American people like mushrooms for 7 1/2 years and now are afraid that when the truth hits, they won't be as able as they were before to keep everyone under control.

  20. KestrelBrighteyes Says:

Okay, so what exactly does a REPUBLICAN president have to lie about before they'll consider impeachment back on the table?

Maybe someone should ask Scott McClellan when he comes before Congress next Friday what he knows about the White House Hooker, Jeff Gannon, and who he was spending all those nights with when he stayed at the White House. It's a long shot, but if blowjobs were involved, maybe they'd pay attention.

  21. Xisithrus Says:

LOL, Tucker Bounds is just another lobbyist. Something McCain has had the bad judgement to employ.

The latest casualty is the campaign’s national finance co-chairman, Thomas Loeffler. Hanging low on the branch are super-lobbyists Charlie Black and campaign manager Rick Davis. Media Matters has compiled a superb list of even more tainted McCain staffers.

And speaking of McCain staffers with ties to lobbying, the announcement of Loeffler’s departure was made by Tucker Bounds, McCain’s deputy communications director. Bounds recently left his position with the American Insurance Association to join McCain’s campaign. The AIA is the “leading property-casualty insurance trade organization, representing 350 insurers that write more than $123 billion in premiums each year.”

This relationship raises an interesting question: Since Bounds, the McCain spokesperson, is himself bound to a major lobbying group, will he be called upon to announce his own dismissal?

In the letter I got from Wexler when he co-sponsored he states:

I am grateful for Dennis' leadership on this issue and for the steadfast support that countless Americans have given to both of our efforts to redeem our government and expose the crimes of Bush and Cheney.

I will now expand my efforts to secure impeachment hearings in the Judiciary Committee for these new Articles of Impeachment against President George W. Bush.

WASHINGTON -- The House has voted to send articles of impeachment against President Bush to a committee that is not likely to hold hearings before the end of his term.

  59. Wayne Says:

"a procedure often used to kill legislation."

Also a procedure to send to Committee for further consideration and "editing" then put to Committee vote.
The Chairman can stall consideration, or a quick committee vote could can it, unless there are one or 2 committee members that want something considered they can force it, by holding up other bills.
Committees were designed to look at bills and "tweak" them, then send them to the floor.

The "a procedure often used to kill legislation." was just the norm for most of the last 7 years.

  82. A Patriot Acting Says:

I guess from the Boehner's perspective I can understand his dislike of left wing blogger influence:
1-Right Wing bloggers are practically illiterate and mostly of one mind like cogs in a talking points machine
2-Truth has a left-leaning bias which is becoming an increasing problem to the GOP
3-Blogging doesn't put any money in Boehner's pockets like lobbyists do
4-Left wing bloggers aren't afraid of scare tactics and are not afraid to speak truth to power
5-and most importantly the internet has given voice to true American patriots who take serious offense at the GOP's raping of our Nation daily for far too long and are only too happy to call them out on their lying, criminal behaviour, hypocritical behaviour and the rest of their long tradition of corrupt self serving sh1t

  84. liberal traitor Says:

I've heard rumblings that Conyers will act on Impeachment, starting with forcing Peloser to recuse herself since it is likely she will either be a material witness or perhaps even charged but not indicted as a conspirator. In her position in the House she was privy to warrantless wiretapping before it hit the news, same with torture. Since it is likely she would be subpoenaed and forced to testify in any Impeachment proceedings it would be inappropriate for her to make any decisions regarding them (which would explain why she is so averse to the I-word). I hope I'm right.
