Army public affairs office promotes ‘Obama = surrender’ talking point.

The Army public affairs office publishes a daily roundup of Army-related news, mostly linking to “mainstream media articles, Army press releases, foreign media stories and blogs.” A link in Tuesday’s round-up, however, was “unusual” for its “patent political bias.” It read: “Obama: World peace thru surrender (KDIHH).” Phillip Carter at the Washington Post notes what’s wrong with this story:

Seriously? Have any of these people actually read the Obama defense policy papers or speeches — or are they simply going on what they hear on Fox News and the Limbaugh network?

And more to the point, why is the Army’s official in-house public affairs shop linking to this kind of stuff? Just a few weeks ago, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff told all hands to stay out of politics. … Unfortunately, the message didn’t get to through to the Army.

More to the point, Pyr. What business does the Army’s public affiars office have expressing a political opinion on something as important as the Presidential election? NONE!!!!

Hillary would have done a better job if she would have been the nominee. What experience does Obama have in running something as important as the military? NONE!!!
    ______________________________________________

I must have missed something. Could you elaborate on Hillary’s military experience?

Or maybe it’s that Hillary has experience running “something as important as” the military; not necessarily the military itself. OK, I give — what might that be?

Methinks some major should in for a major ass whuppin, and a demotion.

I guess anyone associated with the current regime knows that their time is almost up, so they’re pulling out all the stops to try and get McSame in office so they know they have at least 4 more years to destroy the Constitution and line their own pockets.

  8. Max-1 says:

    .

Are we really that surprised by this? After all, the Army has a history of being Loyal Christians(R) who feed from the Corporate dollars funneled to them via our Congress?

I mean, what kind of contracts can the army obtain if there’s peace in the world? I mean, who proft$ from peace?

    .

  9. SpoxLogic says:

    For #1 Prytania: – WTF!!?

And just waht military experience does Sen CLinton ahve, again?
And for that matter, when did Sen McCain ever RUN the military?

Did you honestly think about the comment before posting? If you didn’t, I could forgive you a moment of insanity. If you did think it thru, then …WTF!!!?

The Army is probably just going along with the latest propaganda catapulting campaign. Bushco orders trump those from the Chairman of the JCOS.

  13. SpoxLogic says:

By the way, look for heads to roll on this one. If it’s one thing the military hates is being made to look stupid. They will fire someone just to make it seem as if they are on the up-and-up!

#1: What experience does Obama have in running something as important as the military? NONE!!!

    – - FDR had no military experience prior to being elected. Pretty fair president.
Reagan had no military experience either, unless you count acting in war movies.
Pssst, Reagan’s your only GOP hero the past century.

    also:

New polling shows Obama beating McCain in the General Election, but remember it’s just a snapshot in time. We have work to do. Right wing Talk Shows are smearing Obama everyday with lies and even allegations of “terrorist hand signals”. Sheesh. Desperate men do desperate things.

Obama has set up a website for you to report any smears and to fact check the ones that are already out there.

  32. pete says:

Experience aside (It’s a moot point because Hillary’s done and McCain can’t complete a sentence without contradicting himself.)the problem is the thinking that withdrawal=surrender. Perhaps we can all just shout, in unison:

    WHO WOULD WE SURRENDER TO???!!!

BTW. A “full, immediate withdrawal” is logistically impossible and no rational person would suggest otherwise. And Obama would have to propose an invasion of Europe to compete with the reckless pursuit of mayhem displayed by “Plane Crash McCain”.

  33. Red Pill says:

  34. SpoxLogic says:

    For #34 Prytania:

Might I ask you about the term “Obama cutting and running”?
    OK?…here goes..

Are you implying that we should throw more perfectly good human lives (pricelss) and more monetary treasure at a war that was started based on LIES?

If so, just how many are you willing to see sacrificed so that the US can say we didn’t cut and run? 1000 more? 4000 more? Maybe 10,000? At which point is it worth it? Please base all your answers with the background that we lied our way into this war.

    Thank you.

  35. trollsbwild says:

The military complex is under the impression that the funding for the war is an entitlement program. Someone should inform them otherwise.

After taking a few minutes to read deeper into the thread:

Give it up, Purtyranny. Nothing that Obama has proposed includes a precipitous withdrawal under worsening conditions. “Cut and run” is not only a stupid saying, it’s a outright lie in this context.

If you hate him because he’s a “librul”, or even because he’s black, say so and shut up. There’s no need to make sh!t up.

  38. DRxJ says:

I mean this sincerely…if you aren’t willing to go serve in this illegal invasion, just STFU. You have no right to an opinion when it comes to our young living or dying. NONE.
If you want someone to die, start with the Young Republicans. You can bet your Troll asses that none of them are in Iraq.

    Prytania Says:

Where did I say anything about Mc Cain? And my first post is not off-topic. The topic is Obama cut and running. I don’t think Obama has enough(any)experience running something as important as the millitary. Hillary served on the Armed Forces Board in the Senate for the poast six years. She knows better than to cut and run. That gives her more experience than Obama. It’s also why she lost. Most of you agree with Obama more than you do Hillary.

Talk about flawed logic! What military (or other) experience did dubya bring to the table? That didn’t seem to bother you republic party types when you drooled all over his sorry arse.

  42. Roadkill says:

Those of us who are loyal to The Constitution must put a stop to this sort of rhetoric. We just cannot allow anybody to disparage a presidential candidate like this. Especially when the warmonger name calling is coming from the Army.

I have thought for some time that there is a very strong bond between the government and corporations. They live for each other. The demos (as in democracy) is getting screwed.

The Republic is dying. Freedom is being lost. What form of goverment marries government with business. You guessed it … fascism.

Mussolini defined fascism as being a collectivistic ideology in opposition to socialism, classical liberalism, democracy and individualism. He wrote in The Doctrine of Fascism:

Anti-individualistic, the fascist conception of life stresses the importance of the State and accepts the individual only insofar as his interests coincide with those of the State, which stands for the conscience and the universal will of man as a historic entity…. The fascist conception of the State is all-embracing; outside of it no human or spiritual values can exist, much less have value…. Fascism is therefore opposed to that form of democracy which equates a nation to the majority, lowering it to the level of the largest number…. We are free to believe that this is the century of authority, a century tending to the ‘right’, a Fascist century. If the nineteenth century was the century of the individual we are free to believe that this is the ‘collective’ century, and therefore the century of the State.[16]

Since Mussolini, there have been many conflicting definitions of the term fascism. Former Columbia University Professor Robert O. Paxton has written that:

Fascism may be defined as a form of political behavior marked by obsessive preoccupation with community decline, humiliation, or victim-hood and by compensatory cults of unity, energy, and purity, in which a mass-based party of committed nationalist militants, working in uneasy but effective collaboration with traditional elites, abandons democratic liberties and pursues with redemptive violence and without ethical or legal restraints goals of internal cleansing and external expansion.”[17]

Paxton further defines fascism’s essence as:

…a sense of overwhelming crisis beyond reach of traditional solutions; 2. belief one’s group is the victim, justifying any action without legal or moral limits; 3. need for authority by a natural leader above the law, relying on the superiority of his instincts; 4. right of the chosen people to dominate others without legal or moral restraint; 5. fear of foreign `contamination.”[17]

This sounds exactly like the neocon talking points. Get rid of the Republicans.

  52. upside99 says:

    Pyro says:
..Bush was a second term Governor of Texas. Obama has won one Senate race.

well, having spent a lot of time in Texas, as Gummitch said earlier, the Governor has almost no power and it is a PR job, which fits Dubya to a T.

Oh, and he also bankrupted 2 companies and then was bought into the Texas Rangers baseball team by Pappy, who also, with his friends at the Carlyle Group got him into and out of one of his ‘awl’ companies.

Add that to his losing a race for a seat in the State House in Texas and his deciding to not finish his tour with the ANGUS during Vietnam, gives him just the credentials you are looking for, I guess.

  53. Saint Augustine says:

    Keith Says:

Saint Augustine Says: We will fight for truth, justice and the American way of life.

Did Superman’s people give you permission to use that?

My father, Jor-El instructed me to use my life for the good of mankind. My adopted parents, Jonathan and Martha Kent taught me about American values. I let MY people use those words.

But who cares? Pfffft(that was the sound of a pop top opening), I’m retired now, acting as the Patron Saint of Breweries in a sleepy little drinking town masquerading as a fishing village.

  54. pete says:

Pyro. If you think Obama lacks experience then say so and shut up. Stop parroting, or even worse devising, blatant lies about surrender.

Go to his web site. Watch his speeches. Whatever. But your “cut and run” rhetoric is straight from the hysterical righties like Rush and Bill0. The facts of Obama’s actual positions don’t match their schtick.

dbadass, unfortunately age is creeping up on me. I’ve become a three beer man now; Drink one, Spill one and Leave one. The real bother is the reversing of the beer/piss ratio. I usta coulda drank 4 or 5 beers before I needed to piss. Things are so tight that I piss in a bucket when I drink to save water by not flushing so often.

I remember the wise words of a piano player from Tampa, Pat Cole Henry: Drinkers Adjust.

  57. The Shadow says:

This is exactly why you don’t politicize the military because you have stupid idiots like this guy making statements that are not only wrong, but against the Uniform Code of Military Justice, which is Army law. This person should be charge with sedition for making such a openly political statement. I am a former Army Legal Specialist and I know that Army officers are strictly prohibited from making political statement whether on or off duty. This person is expressing a personal opinion which is based on the propaganda that is spread by Fox News and shows like Rush Limbaugh.

What this idiot doesn’t realize beside breaking military law is, this is dangerous thinking. When you have military officers getting involved in civilian politics it could lead to anarchy. Our system of government is set up so that civilians controll the military and not the other way around because the founding fathers realized that a political military could overthrow the government if it were to become politically active. That is why you have military coups in third world countries and places like China. If the Chinese military hadn’t been so politically connected to the government, then Tenimen Square would have never happened.

This solder needs to be prosecuted to show the rest of the military that getting involved in civilian politcal affairs is strictly prohibited. Also this fool doesn’t understand that Sen. Obama might become President and as such will hold his career in his hands. If I were still serving and were his legal specialist, I would have made sure he was prosecuted to the fullest extent on the law. I was the commanding officers legal representative and I was very very strict about military justice and discipline. This man is not only a fool, but a danger to our democracy and needs to be removed from the ranks of the United States Army.

  58. HighPlainsJoker says:

Prytania: You say that you will not vote for Obama because he does not have the experience to fix what Bush “Phucked up”. But you will vote for McCain, who has vowed to not change anything. I’m reaching for the logic on that.

What the President does, if he knows what his job entails, is set policy. Obama has said that, in effect he will direct the military to do their job and plan a withdrawal. Seems right to me. And Obama will field a team of SecDef, Sec of State, etc which will carry out his policies. He will provide the judgement, after hearing all sides to the issues, to make the right decisions. At least I believe he will do that, and that’s why I will vote for him….
