Hannity Admits He’s A ‘Surrogate’ For McCain

In a revealing slip of the tongue last night on his Fox News television show, Sean Hannity acknowledged that he’s a “surrogate” for John McCain.

While interviewing former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, Hannity complained to him that the McCain campaign has been reluctant to engage in a smear campaign against Barack Obama. Giuliani explained that the McCain campaign is going to let “a lot of the attacking” be done by surrogates. “People like me,” Hannity said:

GIULIANI: I think that you’re going to find that in both cases Senator Obama and Senator McCain — a lot of the attacking is going to be done by surrogates. And they’re going to — well, I mean.

HANNITY: People like me.

GIULIANI: Right. All of the attacking.

COLMES: You’re a McCain surrogate?

“No, no” Hannity said, quickly backtracking when his co-host Alan Colmes immediately called him out. Watch it:

Fox recently fired a 24-year old production assistant for disclosing her allegiance to McCain. “I voted for you in the primary, you’re going to win,” she said. A Fox News spokesperson called it “journalistically unacceptable.” Is Hannity’s admission any more acceptable?

Don’t worry, Sean. You’re not the only one over at Fox News trying desperately to hide your McCain surrogate activities.

Transcript:

HANNITY: But Senator McCain has shown a little bit of reluctance in terms of going after some of the controversies of Senator Obama. As he balances the — you know should he run on ideas versus going after the weaknesses that he’s not really an agent of change, that he’s a typical, quintessential politician, where would you balance it?

GIULIANI: I think — first of all, it’s different being a mayor and being a presidential candidate, and I think that you’re going to find that in both cases Senator Obama and Senator McCain — a lot of the attacking is going to be done by surrogates. And they’re going to — well, I mean.

HANNITY: People like me.

GIULIANI: Right. All of the attacking.

COLMES: You’re a McCain surrogate?

HANNITY: No, no, I’m the head of.

GIULIANI: …Look, a lot of these points are valid points. We have to examine people’s experience. You have to examine their judgment and all these things. But I mean you don’t want a presidential candidate spending too much time on that. You want a presidential candidate — I think, either party would say this — you want them focusing on the future.

HANNITY: All right.

GIULIANI: … what they can do for the future. You want them on a higher plane.

HANNITY: Let me ask you this, because I really do not believe in my heart of hearts — so I look at this camera — I do not think Barack Obama has been honest, and I do not think he’s made responsible decisions in his career, and I think we’ve been the victim of a bit of a propaganda marketing campaign, and I don’t think we know who the real Barack Obama is. Do you agree with me?

GIULIANI: We’re going to find out.

Hannity secretly houses McCain in his womb?
I would hate to see what comes out nine months later.

  8. RobertSeattle Says:

Yep - it will be a great game of Good Cop/Bad Cop with the Fixed News people going after Obama. Example:
    Sean Hannity: "Obama eats puppies"
    (12 hours elapses)
McCain: "I repudiate Sean Hannity for saying Obama eats puppies".
    (24 hours elapses)
O'Reilly: "Obama eats kittens for breakfast"
    (12 hours elapses)
McCain: "I strongly condemn O'Reilly for saying Obama eats kittens".
Lather, rinse, repeat until November 3rd.

  9. Bob Says:

For the next 20 weeks or so SH will be attacking Obama by taking everything he says out of context while complaining that everything McCain says is taken out of context.

Hannity is a shameless shill for the GOP. He even states on his own show that the party has lost it's way and has ten steps to getting the party back on track.
The man needs a solid beating.

A Fox News spokesperson called it “journalistically unacceptable.”

Now THAT is funny! There has never been ANYTHING at Faux NoNooz that has come close to being "journalistically acceptable"!

  18. misshusseinmolly Says:

Waitaminnit -- since when is Fox News concerned with "journalistic acceptability"?

Oh right -- all that term means to them is "shill for the GOP, but never admit that's what you're doing."

  30. paleolib Says:

Sad thing is Hannity probably only backtracked because he didn't want to offend the FoxBots who think McCain is too liberal.

  34. justme Says:

So, wait. They fire some schmuck for stating a voting preference, but calling for the assassination of a Presidential candidate is just fine.

    Okay.

  35. christopher wiwi Says:

S.H. is a typical Reich wing hater of the liberal minded people of this country who happens to have a TV show where he can show all of the world his hatred and look like a fool because alot of real conservatives are tired of the neocon trap they were lead into and they want real change that OBAMA will instill into this country once more. The REICH in my opinion has lost it`s way with WAR,GREED and CORRUPTION and the SHRUBS crime family and we as Americans are not scared of the REICH`S scare tactics anymore......

  36. Dr. Hussein Matt Says:

You'd have to be an idiot to think Vannity isn't a surrogate for the reich-wing.

  37. Abu Ben Hussein Leporello Says:

What is it about Faux that makes people there either amazingly nuts or astonishingly stupid? Didn't he realise that the cameras were actually on and, just maybe (and unfortunately), people would be watching? Well, at least, despite the network and the broadcaster, the truth came out. Lets hope and pray for more Freudian moments like this. If nothing else, they're quite entertaining!
Impeach Pelosei, Cheney and Bush and Save the Constitution!

  38. bigeugene Says:

Well, I'm more surprised that cowardly Colmes actually interjected for once. Of course Hannity is a McCain surrogate.

  39. Buckie Boy Says:

    Fake News, Far from Balanced.

The propaganda network spews it's crap into the ears of the uneducated and intolerant.

The hate mongers of fear and smear prey on the weak minded and unthinking lemmings.

I have it blocked at my house, so when my in-laws come over they can't pollute my house with the vile stench.

  40. 5th Estate Says:

    HANNITY: People like me.
GIULIANI: Right. All of the attacking

Note that Giuliani agrees or “confirms” Hannity as a McCain surrogate and attack dog--because Giuliani is one, too.

    COLMES: You’re a McCain surrogate?
HANNITY: No, no, I’m the head of---

(the head of what? A zit? Anywhoo…)

    […]

HANNITY: I do not think Barack Obama has been honest (attack point #1), and I do not think he’s made responsible decisions in his career (attack point #2), and I think we’ve been the victim of a bit of a propaganda marketing campaign (Clinton supporters might claim that, but not GOPeratives like Hannity, fer chrissake!), and I don’t think we know who the real Barack Obama is (recycled attack point #3). Do you agree with me?

So without an ounce of supporting evidence Hannity plants the notions of dishonesty, irresponsibility and untrustworthiness about Obama and of course Giuliani allows the charges to hang in the ether, unanswered, so that other surrogates can then develop the themes.

The formula is so easy, even proud college dropout Sean Hannity can do it.

  41. flavorino Says:

Hannity is a smooth talking conman from Long island who is carrying on a long tradition of fast talking New Yorkers taking advantage of gullible rubes and senior citizens.

In another era he would be selling snake oil, ripping off unsuspecting tourists or selling some sucker the Brooklyn Bridge.

  42. flavorino Says:

May I add to the above that I grew up in the NYC area and I recognize Hannity's type.
I've also lived on Long Island and heard from people who went to high school with him.
The guy is completely full of it, but as a college dropout he found a good way to make some easy bucks (BIG BUCKS!).

  43. helenahandbasket Says:

Hannity: "And I think we've been the victim of a bit of a propoganda marketing campaign".

    Oh the irony.

  44. incaseofrain Says:

HANNITY: No, no, I’m the head of...

It sounds to me as if he finished the sentence with "the Stop Obama Express."

    _

  45. Leftside Annie Says:

    Giuliani: "(noun)(verb) 9/11!"
    Hannity: "The buses!"
    Giuliani: "(noun)(verb) 9/11!"
    Hannity: "Rape rooms Torture chambers!"
    Giuliani: "(noun)(verb) 9/11!"
Hannity: "Obama is a Muslim/Marxist/terrorist fist jabber!"

    Most of America: "Oh, puh-LEASE!!"

  46. LibertyLover Says:

    Annie @ #47

I was just going to comment that I don't think I've ever seen a clip of Guiliani without him mentioning 9/11.

  49. Ms_Joanne Says:

Uhm, and this surprises who? Just listening to this guy (which I can in about 30 second doses before feeling so nauseous that I want to puke up my last meal) says it all. His head is so far up both Bush and McCain's (Dumb and Dumber's) respective asses that I think it's his vile spilling out of their pie holes.

    Public airwaves my a$$!

(On a side note: Are you a first class snarker? I am looking for YOU! You're gonna love this! Come join the fun and tell us why YOU are voting Republican.)

    Quick!
Can we get a late term abortion over here?!

  51. zuch Says:

"Noooo! Say it ain't so, Joe!"

You mean that Hannity is a McCain stooge? Why, who would have guessed, from his "Stop Hillary Express" (for which he took exclusive credit for success, apparently beating back the best efforts of his compatriot Rush), to his new quest, the "Stop Obama Express"....

The guy's a joke. A really bad one.

    Cheers,

  52. canttouchthis Says:

And mine is boycott "Fox News" all fox networks starting with their advertisers delete your myspace page (profile) maybe that will get their attention its time that unfair bias right-wing fear-hate-warmongering-anti-anykindofimmigration learn that we don't want two or three us against them America anymore some of don't remember that all of us are the descendants of immigrants expect for the natives (you know the ones we have packed on reservations). its time the America that was envisioned when the protestants were fleeing Europe due to religious war came into reality. Abraham Lincoln would be ashamed of us if he were to return right now to see what we have become I'm when he signed the emancipation proclamation he truly believed that all men were created equal and in the image and likeness of God. I bet he didn't intend for slaves to be free physically but also mentally, emotionally, and economically, I know what you'll say its not our fault they have no chains anymore well you're its our fault when the opportunities were at first openly kept away from some (remember the whites only signs?) and now its being secretly kept just out of reach with a twisted education system for started get them while them young lets not fund their schools, make sure the history books they use are out of date and when they are new make sure they are full of misinformation and inaccurate historical facts in fact lets not teach them the history of their ancestors let them learn it from stories whether they know the truth doesn't matter because even if 90% of them graduate for high school and went to college that doesn't matter because a very small percentage of them will land good jobs and consistently climb the ladder to real success and the so called American dream (whatever that is) because what we call the American dream is the dream of every person on earth and that is to earn a good living provide for their families and make sure their children have good memories of them in the end. We treat the proclamation the way a celebrity stocker treats a restraining order; with no respect basically ignoring just like we've been doing the constitution. The perpetrators of these atrocities against us our nation won't get away with it forever some how the truth always has a way of appearing and its usually when we least expect sometimes even out of our owns mouths.
