Get your Gitmo gear.»

The Washington Post’s Sleuth reports that the Guantanamo Bay detention facility has a gift shop advertising its detainee operations that sells windbreakers, baseball caps, and t-shirts. According to the Post, “military base officials were thrilled to have reporters buying up goodies at the gift shop for their loved ones back home”:

The left breast of the front of the shirt is emblazoned with the words “Operation Enduring Freedom” and “JTF,” which stands for Joint Task Force. The back of the shirt, in large lettering, says “JTF GTMO” and in slightly smaller font below it, “DETAINEE OPERATIONS, U.S. NAVAL STATION, GUANTANAMO BAY, CUBA.”

Read Naomi Klein’s “the Shock Doctrine”. This is only the beginning.

  4. RUCerious Says:

Why don’t you purchase the entire stock, Daryll? Then you can hand them out in lieu of paying for your Rio hookers.

  5. RUCerious Says:

Daryll, any comment on the Supreme Court decision yesterday?

    Hopefully you jest?

  8. dbadass Says:

Good idea Daryll. It’ll go well with those trashy abstinance pants.

  9. dbadass Says:

Daryll can’t comment on the Supreme Court deal. He is still training to muster and explaination of his god’s failure as to president elect Huckabee. And here I thought Gods were all powerful.

  10. Mark @ News Corpse Says:

    A Gitmo shirt?

I think you should get one of these instead:

    John McCain - NOPE

In contrast to Obama’s campaign of optimism and hope, McCain has focused predominately on what can’t be accomplished.

  11. dbadass Says:

Daryll’s god must have made a mistake. What the heck. What kind of god makes mistakes? A second rate one I can only assume

  15. 5th Estate Says:

Daryll : That’s actually “Operation Enduring Freedom from Muslim bondage and extremism”

    Fixed.

Muslim Bondage? Gosh Daryll, did you spend six years as the captive of a cruel Muslim mistress in some extr-legal portion of the Middle East?

Or are you saying that the only thing stopping the entire US from being enslaved by Muslim extremists is a Cuban swamp and the fine men and women who serve there?

If we don’t buy these t-shirts, will we all be forced to wear Burka’s? ( Is that what your cruel doe-eyed Muslim mistress made you do?) Go on, you can tell me. I can handle the truth.

Are there any graphic artists out there? I think a design or two are needed for battle ribbons for those fighting the GWOT. Remember the ribbon the crew made for Mr. Roberts?

Ribbions are needed for having faced the danger of waterboarding suspects and other extreme duty assignments that brought our brave men and women into contact with these…these….these MUSLIMS.

  20. freeman Says:

    Daryn
This is just another attempt by the ignorant to get our Armed Forces tortured abroad and for creating a facility to help ruin our international reputation as a nation. Daryn the truth is shining thru.

  21. RUCerious Says:

    Per Daryll,
Detainees do not have a right to appeal their incarceration. We give them a hot and a cot. The Department of Defense will inform them when, if ever, they will be able to leave. There is alot of resourceful information at GITMO.

Umm, that’s not what the SCOTUS said.
Are you against the rule of law in this country?

  22. DRxJ Says:

    Daryll of parodyll,
This thread is not about gay sex.

Welp, at least the shirts prove there’s no torturing, correct?

Reminds me of an incident that happened when I was in college (84 or 85).
A fraternity held a party that unfortunately, resulted in a student being run over, and killed.
A select few thought it would be funny to sell T-shirts that said “I partied with the Tekes”, with a pair of tire skid marks across the lettering.

My point? Just someone trying to “lighten up” a horrific event. I didn’t agree with it then. I don’t agree with it now.

  23. Leftside Annie Says:

President Leftside Annie needs to take action here

As president, I hereby order the immediate detention of the terrorist suspect known as “Darryl.” Said terrorist “Darryl” is to be held indefinitely - and we’ll just see how he likes it.

Terrorist Darryl, you are obviously an enemy of the Constitution, and I, President Leftside Annie, have the power (afforded to me by the USA Patriot Act) to detain you indefinitely without trial.

Perhaps, as president, I will also order an …enhanced… interrogation for you, Darryl, in order to flush out your terrorist accomplices. I’ll see to it that you have a “hot and a cot” as you put it, but that’s all. We won’t tell your dear wife where you are, nor will we provide you with an attorney.

Your protests of innocence mean nothing to us, “Darryl” as you are obviously a dangerous America-hating terrorist and as such, you deserve to be incarcerated for the rest of your unnatural life.

By order of the President -

    Leftside Annie

I’m happy to report that not all Christians are Faux Christians like Daryll:

‘Seven individuals from Witness Against Torture, a group protesting the denial of rights to prisoners at the U.S. Naval Base at Guantánamo Bay, Cuba, were served papers by the Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) last week. The group of twenty-four U.S. Christians marched over 60 miles to the Naval Base in an attempt to practice the Christian act of prisoner visitation. The group camped and fasted for four days at the gate of the militarized zone while awaiting access to the base.’

Hey daryll did I ever mention that on Sept. 11th 1973 the CIA overthrew the democratically elected government of Chile which resulted in the deaths of 30 000 Chilean citizens ,after which the torturers , who had recieved their training at the school of the America’s in Georgia ,tortured up to 250 000 people in concentration camps throughout the country, including that countries current president and both her parents . Her father died during the experience.

“Conquered states that have been accustomed to liberty and the government of their own laws can be held by the conqueror in three different ways. The first is to ruin them; the second, for the conqueror to go and reside there in person; and the third is to allow them to continue to live under their own laws, subject to a regular tribute, and to create in them a government of a few, who will keep the country friendly to the conqueror”: Niccolo Machiavelli, The Prince

  48. Editer Says:

I haven’t read The Shock Doctrine, but on first glance this doesn’t strike me as particularly scandalous; it looks like the standard stuff that service members can get at any base where they’re stationed. It doesn’t say “You catch ‘em we cool ‘em” or some such crap as that.

  49. 5th Estate Says:

Hey the experiment has worked out great all over central and south America if you have light skin , the right name and are part of the 3 or 4 % who are the ruling aristocracy.

  57. Wayne A. Schneider Says:

Daryll, you really are a hard person to figure out. You have this blind devotion to President Bush, yet you claim to all of us that you are Christian. Either you are not really enamored of Bush and his policies, or you are not a very good Christian, but you can’t be both a Bush supporter and a good Christian.

Yet you defend Bush and his actions all the time.

    Daryll Says:

This is not torture. This is a disciplinary action for lying to our government.

Who says these people who were tortured lied to our government? Was this determination made in a court of law? And, as others have correctly noted, Bush lied to our government when he inflated the danger Iraq posed to us. That is an established fact, Daryll. Wouldn’t that mean that Bush should undergo the same “disciplinary action” as the prisoners who didn’t have their day in court yet?

And if you think the SCOTUS was wrong to restore the right of habeas corpus, then you do not understand the first thing about living in a nation of laws and not men. Your allegiance is to a person and not to our constitution. That is very un-American.

How many dead and wounded will make you feel safe again ?
Yes it was a terrible crime but I’m thinking that millions dead and displaced in a country that had ABSOLUTELY nothing to do with our 911 ( as opposed to the one we inflicted with 10 times the casualties on Chile in 1973 )is a several times GREATER crime.

  77. MapleStreet Says:

BTW - about post 87. Yes my sarcasm is over the top to compare Gitmo to the Holocost. Yes the scale of the Nazi death camps (for Jews and also other “undesirables”) is many magnitudes of scale bigger.

But the crassness of clothing celebrating them is extremely callous in both cases.

Al-Qa’ida is a terrorist organization that uses murder and torture and propaganda to promote their misguided causes. I don’t pay taxes to al-Qa’ida. I don’t vote for the leadership of al-Qa’ida. I don’t have any say whatsoever in what al-Qa’ida or its members do.

The United States, on the other hand, is the military and economic leader of the free world, whose founding documents are still viewed around the world as beacons for democratic governance and the rule of law. I pay taxes to my country, and vote for its leaders (I assume), and I (presumably) have a say in what my country does.

I expect my country to behave a bit better than al-Qa’ida. I really don’t think it’s too much to ask for my country not to torture, not to murder innocent people, and not to crassly promote either of these with GTMO t-shirts.

1954 CIA overthrows the democratically elected government of Arbenz in Guatemala 200 000 killed.
