Morris on 4,000 U.S. casualties in Iraq: ‘I want bases out of that.’»

During an interview last night on Fox News’s Hannity and Colmes, conservative pundit Dick Morris said that after all the American sacrifices in Iraq, he wants “bases out of that,” essentially arguing that the more American casualties there are, the more the United States deserves bases from Iraq. He then explained that he envisioned the permanent bases would be “like they are in Okinawa or North Korea”:

After we’ve sustained 4,000 casualties, I don’t know about you, but I want bases out of that. I want the ability to have troops near Iran. And I’m not saying they go off base. They’re like they are in Okinawa or North Korea.

Watch it:

The United States military bases are actually in South Korea, where approximately 28,500 U.S. troops are stationed.

So in order to rationalize a stupid move (permanent military bases in Iraq),that will only inflame the people in that region, Morris uses the results of another stupid move (invading Iraq), that has already inflamed these people.

I don’t know which is more troubling, the arrogance or the stupidity of this person.

Oh wait…this has nothing to do with the WOT, which was just a PR slogan to sell a far more sinister plan. What we’re really doing is implementing a plan to control as many oil-rich countries as possible.

I wasn’t aware that we have 58 permanent military bases in Korea and Japan.

The right trying to equate permanent bases in Iraq to bases in Korea and Japan is an apples to oranges comparison and any thinking adult knows that. The fact of the matter is that the Iraqi’s aren’t going to stop killing Americans until we get the hell out of their country. Having 58 permanent bases and the monstrosity embassy will just make our troops and people sitting ducks.

  26. Bilbo Hussein Baggins Says:

Interesting, that’s 69 dead Americans per base. Morris thinks that’s a good return on investment. I would like to ask the parents of the 69 dead Americans if they think their child’s life was worth a permanent military base in a country where we are despised and viewed as being an occupier.

Max1, that’s a good question! If we are entitled to 58 bases for 4,100 permanently lost soldiers, that would equate to one base per 71 casualties. If we take the optomistic estimate that 600,000 Iraqis have died, that would entitle them to 8,450 bases. Now where does Dick live?

I hesitated posting this because I in no way mean to make light of our casualties, but Dick’s offering up their dead bodies as some sort of bargaining chip for permanent bases is obscene on so many level.

  33. Wayne A. Schneider Says:

Once again, the right wing is starting with the assumption that the invasion of Iraq was necessary, lawful and unavoidable. Then they spew out what they feel should be done based on that false premise.

The invasion of Iraq was never, ever “necessary”. It was a war of choice, waged for personal reasons by our president. Had he been honest with the American people and told us that things were not as sure as he said they were, we would never have supported him. But, as with so many other of their arguments, the right can’t win when they tell the truth. So they lie and distort things, and then claim that because you agree with them, they must be right.

Our invasion of Iraq violated international law. That is a fact. Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, and many others can (and should be) arrested if they ever set foot in certain countries. If they do get arrested, I will stand behind seeing them convicted for their war crimes 100%.

Nor was the war in Iraq “unavoidable”. Bush made up his mind to take out Saddam from the beginning of his administration. he just lacked any sufficient reason for doing it. Then 9/11 happened, and Bush went around the country trying to make people believe things that weren’t true, just so he could get rid of Saddam because, “He tried to kill my Daddy.” Bush ignored and even discouraged diplomatic efforts to avoid war. he had no interest in proving that any of the things he was saying were true. In his words, “We cannot wait for the final proof to come in the form of a mushroom cloud.” So he just assumed he was right and claimed he was justified in what he did. I really hope he spends a long time in prison.

Oh, and why is Scott McClellan called a “traitor” by Fox News Channel for writing a tell-all book about his time in the Bush White house, but Dick Morris is hired as a “political expert” by Fox News Channel after he wrote a tell-all book about his time in the Clinton White house?

    _____

Okay - I’ll try that. Let me see if I can make the same decisions this president made:

President Toasterhead, should we invade a country that poses no threat to the United States for so we can establish a foothold in the Persian Gulf, provide windfall profits to the petro-military-industrial complex, and use a campaign of lies and forgeries to sell it to the American people?

    No.

President Toasterhead, can we pay people in Afghanistan $5,000 to rat out their neighbors as “terrorists” and then lock up these unlawful combatants indefinitely on an offshore location?

    No.

Okay, but can we at least torture them a bit?

    Absolutely not.

    Please?

    No.

President Toasterhead, there’s a category 5 hurricane heading towards New Orleans. Would you like to ignore it for a few days, contract out the emergency plan to a major campaign contributor, and then use the storm as an excuse to grab land from poor black people to benefit some major developers?

    No.

President Toasterhead, would you like to sell off every single government function, from tax collection to national defense, to a bunch of corporations?

    No.

President Toasterhead, would you like to deny health care to children of lower-middle and working-class families who are too poor for private health insurance but not poor enough to qualify for assistance?

    Nope.

President Toasterhead, would you like to rule over government-funded scientists and doctors with an iron fist, making sure all scientific reports are thoroughly vetted to scrub out any findings that might conflict with your cronies’ business plans?

    No.

Wow! This decisionerating is hard - there’s no WAY I could make the same decisions President Bush made! Good point, Minatour!!

Huh), student loans are harder to get, interest rates are up, foreclosures are rampant, etc etc etc.

You know what, you’re right. The economy is doing just dandy…that is if you’re a CEO of say Blackwater, KBR, or Halliburton. Or if you had tons of money to begin with and don’t actually WORK for any of it, you just make money of your already existing wealth because thanks to Big W’s tax cuts, which by the way benefit the top 1% of Americans in terms of wealth way more than they do anyone else, you no longer have to pay that much on your obscene wealth. A person making 30,000 a year (and actually WORKING for it like a Teacher) gets a few hundred bucks more back in taxes which they then turn right around have to spend on GAS, and someone who never worked a day in their life but inherited all their wealth gets back 10,000 more dollars in taxes, or they don’t get anything back because IT WAS NEVER TAKEN FROM THEM IN FIRST PLACE.

Wait just one minute, Sparky. You are equating the president with the nation he is supposed to lead. YOUR allegiance is not to your country but to the person who is badly running it. George Bush is our president, not our Commander-in-Chief. He is only the C-in-C of the military forces. Until you understand that distinction (and I know subtlety is not your strong point), you have no business criticizing those of us who have served our country and who wish to exercise our First Amendment rights to free speech and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

  83. Buckie Boy Says:

Minatour Says: I am more of a man than you!

In your dreams Fcuk head. By the way, men don’t wear womens undies while at their computer…just thought you would like to know.

  84. liberal traitor Says:

    Strat,
Don’t give the moron the satisfaction. The “I signed up” thing is a very convenient out for trolls whenever they get called on something.

It goes without saying that if someone were serving in uniform, and disagreed with our point of view, we would still not want them to be killed or injured in action.

It goes without saying because we SHOULDN”T HAVE TO SAY IT. Our loyalty and patriotism has been questioned everytime we’ve dissented for the last 7 years, and now that we’ve been proven correct in every subject we’ve talked about since Chimpy took office, it’s about time to tell these trolls to STFU.

  85. bonzo 1958 Says:

So his idea of *supporting the troops* is erecting bases because they died. Great talking point. How many bases per dead soldier is that? How much is a man’s/woman/s life worth?

  86. Wayne A. Schneider Says:

    Nicky Says:

Was it during his disastrous handling of Katrina?

It wasn’t his fault. It Katleen Blanco’s fault. Bush did the best he can. Blame Blanco, she messed it up and the press lead by Keith Olbermann smeared Bush.
    June 13th, 2008 at 3:29 pm

Oh, please. It was a national disaster, not simply a local one. Bush was the one who dropped the ball and failed our citizens, not Gov Blanco.

  87. upside99 Says:

    Nicky Says:

It wasn’t his fault. It Katleen Blanco’s fault. Bush did the best he can. Blame Blanco, she messed it up and the press lead by Keith Olbermann smeared Bush.

I do hope you are kidding! Do you live in LA?

Blanco declared a State of Emergency almost 48 hours before the storm hit NO. Nothing was done til AFTER. Bush had to be told twice by his handlers and he still went to San Diego to play air guitar with some big hatted country singer.

  88. spencers mom Says:

Everyone here, Minatour has now changed his login to Nicky. I’ve flagged all of Minatour’s posts, but his alter ego, Nicky, asks why I flagged him.

Just flag and move on… we have serious work to do in the next 5 months.

    PEACE

  89. upside99 Says:

Oh, and also, 60% of the LA National Guard was in Iraq, fighting Dubya’s efo oil war and took most of the state’s equipment.

  90. liberal traitor Says:

    Hey Nicky,
Pray tell, has anything that has occured during Bush’s presidency been his responsibility or fault? Anything? Is it always the fault of some Democrat getting in his way?

Is George W. Bush, as an ADULT (I’m giving him SO much leeway here), and as the PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED FU(KING STATES OF AMERICA (which he isn’t since he was never elected the first time, but for the sake of argument), EVER responsible for ANYTHING that happens while he is in that office? Ever?

  91. upside99 Says:

    Liberal Traitor,

Of course he isn’t. Just like nicky/minature isn’t responsible for all those cheeto stains on his mom’s computer.

  92. Leftside Annie Says:

Hmmm. This looks like a job for President Leftside Annie!

You sirs, Troll Minatour and Troll Nicky, are hereby ordered detained indefinitely as terrorist suspects, by virtue of the USA Patriot Act, for the anti-American, anti-Constitution sedition you have each posted on this site.

You will not be permitted to contact an attorney, pack a bag or contact your family. Nor will you be allowed to pass GO and collect $200.

You will be waterboarded, sirs, and I have a two nice pairs of dirty undies all ready to be placed over your pointy terrorist heads. Furthermore, I have Barry Manilow’s “Copacabana” all queued up and ready to go, with the volume set at 25.

And Fido, my ferocious German Shepherd dog, is very hungry. He might not bite you, but then again, he might and that’s just a big oopsie, isn’t it?

By order of President Leftside Annie

  93. StratRat Says:

    Strat,
Don’t give the moron the satisfaction. The “I signed up” thing is a very convenient out for trolls whenever they get called on something.

I know. Frankly reading his posts, it makes me wonder just how badly off the military must be to allow him to join, if he did join.

  94. liberal traitor Says:

Nicky Nicky Nicky, that’s not what I asked you, but nice try.

I asked you, is he ever responsible for anything? Every negative thing that has happened during his administration, it’s always Bill Clinton’s fault, or the Democrats fault, or the Iraqi’s fault, or the fault of Gov. Blanco, or the fault of Ray Nagin, or the fault of “few bad apples”, or the fault of whoever…

Simple question, can George Bush be held accountable for anything at all? Not is he accountable for EVERYTHING, of course not. He didn’t cause Katrina to hit, any more than he caused the flooding in Iowa right now. However, is he not responsible for the EXTREMELY slow and Fatally poor response of FEMA and the Federal govt?

  95. RightOfAttila Says:

I think Dick Morris is wrong on this. I think the US should scale down on foreign bases. We should leave those bases where the host country doesn’t welcome us.

  96. liberal traitor Says:

btw, random OT, and TP will probably post something anything…

Tim Russert has just died from a heart attack.

    http://nytimes.com/ (top of the page)

    Weird day.

  97. liberal traitor Says:

sorry, TP will probably post something *anyway*

  98. curmudgeon Says:

How well would this be received here if the Islamic countries got together and made a deal where if the United States is going to place military bases in their country, then they would be able to establish 58 military bases in the United States, and be authorized to exercise the same powers over our population (unchecked power to arrest and detain U. S. citizens, along with immunity from any form of accountability, or need to follow the laws of this country). For details about the proposed U. S. “deal”, go to http://news.yahoo.com/ s/ time/ 20080602/ wl_time/ iraqioppositiontouspactgrows

Can any of the trolls explain to us why Iraq citizens would want to support the U. S. initiative?

  99. Buckie Boy Says:

StratRat - the military has lowered the bar very low to get fodder for Iraq.

I guess Miniturd finally turned eighteen and can get out of his mom’s basement. But he will be in for quite a shock when he gets to Iraq.

By the way Miniturd they don’t let you wear women’s undies over there, so pack your back for summer in hell.

  100. Namtillaku Says:

I want something out of that too, executions. Preferably public.

  101. ralph the wonder llama Says:

    Nicky Says:
    Liberal Traitor,
You are right. I admit Bush is to blame for everything. I have seen the light and Now I am a Progressive. You have converted me.
It’s really hot outside, I blame Bush.

Wait — I thought you had been insisting that you were a “Progressive” before?

You mean you were just pretending?

    Perish the thought!

  102. liberal traitor Says:

    Nicky,
So no response then, eh? I thought so. Just repeat the same tired caricature of what you think I’m saying. At least you’re consistent…oh wait:

    Nicky Says:
    Liberal Traitor,
You are right. I admit Bush is to blame for everything. I have seen the light and Now I am a Progressive. You have converted me.

    Nevermind.

  103. upside99 Says:

nicky/miniature sounds a lot like our old troll from that 3rd rate college in N Virginia, mr. p.

  104. liberal traitor Says:

He/she also sounds a lot like VA Voter

  105. RUCerious Says:

Lessee, based on that logic, if 4,000 dead gets you 16 bases, we should have…….mmm times four, carry the six….

    232 bases in Vietnam.

  106. upside99 Says:

    LT,

they are all the same person.

  107. upside99 Says:

    RU,

In my tour there, I think I was on about half of them, if you count the firebases.

  108. RUCerious Says:

upside ~ yup, trickynicky’sdickissticky… he’s probably just about to go blind.

  109. liberal traitor Says:

    Upside,
yeah most likely. Just like Trajan75 from TPW fame came in here today as Mr. Victor and…oh what was the other name…darn it, these trolls are so irrelevant and have so many names I simply can’t be bothered to remember them all.

  110. upside99 Says:

    RU,

remember when he used to go off on his meth-rants at night. That was scary funny stuff!

  111. RUCerious Says:

upside, what the hell was your MOS?

I was only in DaNang and Phu Bai, got to Camp Eagle, and a few other fire bases, but I don’t think they’re still around.

My wife (who is Vietnamese) and I are going to go back next year or the year after, and I really want to see if there’s anything left in the big red muddy.

  112. RUCerious Says:

Vulture is a perfect name for a lowlife troll…

  113. ralph the wonder llama Says:

The sugar rush must have worn off and all the trolls have crashed.

    Peace and quiet.

  114. ktpinnacle Says:

Why do we live in a world where ANYONE should care what this waste of space cares about?

How does this type of two-faced, unprincipaled jackass have his opinion voiced on the air?

  115. upside99 Says:

    RU,

I was in SARS (Air Sea Rescue) so spent time all over II Corps and some of I Corps and Cambodia.

I was in Saigon (oops, HCM City) a few years ago and want to go back and spend more time in-country, including N Vietnam.

  116. dbadass Says:

    Upside,
yeah most likely. Just like Trajan75 from TPW fame came in here today as Mr. Victor and…oh what was the other name…darn it, these trolls are so irrelevant

Can you really blame him for dropping by? How many times can you look at “no comments” without feeling a little blue. He just needed some interaction since none goes on at TPW

  117. blue state bob Says:

Why couldn’t this fat tub of lard have a heart attack today instead of Tim Russert?

  118. flavorino Says:

    upside99 Says:
How many combat tours has he served?

Zero, but he does like to hire prostitutes and suck on their toes.
Surely that must count for something.

  119. Chocolate Jesus Says:

    > What am I missing? Bases are
    > some sort of
    > “earned reward” for invading
    > and occupying a country?

    “frequent bomber” miles

  120. Chocolate Jesus Says:

    >Surely that must count for something.

    It does.

  121. vat694848 Says:

How low can Morris go, how low can Fox News go?

  122. freeman Says:

Mr. Morris , here my question for you?
1953 CIA overthrows mossadeq in Iran in order to help BP continue to control the oil there.

My question for you mr Morris …… is what do they get ?

  123. freeman Says:

We do not want a PAX Americana enforced on the world by American weapons of war. Not the peace of the grave or the security of the slave. I am talking about genuine peace, the kind of peace that makes life on earth worth living, the kind that enables men and nations to grow and to hope and to build a better life for their children — not merely peace for Americans but peace for all men and women — not merely peace in our time but peace for all time.” John F. Kennedy (1963)

  124. Chocolate Jesus Says:

    >Or, maybe not.

Or maybe we dont let flaghumping jingoist imbeciles like yourself plot national strategy. wernt we supposed to give the iraqis “freedumb”? does that freedom not include the freedom to tell us to leave? what else shouldnt we let the iraqis do?

  125. gitrdone Says:

How about we send all our right wing pundits to Iraq permanently?

Wait,no, we have done enough damage to that country.

  126. sacopenapa Says:

…using the same racionale, over one million dead iraqui civilian… lets say, 100 permanent Iraqui military bases in the USA!

  127. jnratliff Says:

does anyone put any credibility to anything this fool says?

  128. republicanSScareme Says:

Who cares what that arrogant, snot-rag Zionist Dick Morris thinks about anything? Is he aware that he’s on everyone’s traitor list?
