McCain event with fundraiser who joked about rape has been ‘postponed,’ not canceled.»

On Friday, ABC reported that Sen. John McCain’s (R-AZ) campaign had canceled a fundraiser with a Texas oilman who compared rape to the weather while running for governor. “As long as it’s inevitable, you might as well lie back and enjoy it,” said Clayton Williams in 1990. But the Houston Chronicle now reports that yesterday afternoon, the campaign said that the event had simply been “postponed” until later this summer:

Late Saturday afternoon, a McCain aide confirmed to the Chronicle that the Midland event had been postponed but had not been taken off the calendar. The compromise allowed McCain to say he had not held a fundraiser at Williams’ house; it gave Williams an opportunity to say that the event he organized had not been canceled.

Gotta keep all options open, right, Johnny Boy?

Don’t want the bad rape comment tag but want all that Repug ‘awl bidness’ money.

You are on sick FU(K, McCain!! I hope all the women will remember this come November.

  3. RUCerious Says:

Lessee, postponed until further notice (=as soon as no one is watching, noticing, a slow news friday….)

  4. RUCerious Says:

Oh, yeah, McIIIrd, stuff that $300,000 campaign contribution up your butt, will you? Thanks.

  5. Dr. Hussein Matt Says:

Reich-wingers are low-life misogynists. This will not phase the vile rat GOPig base. In fact, the reich-wing scum will applaud McGrampa for his support of misogyny.

  6. Jess Wonderin Says:

If McCain would just go home, sit around and do Bar-B-Que with Cindy until November and make NO public statements, his chances of winning would increase to almost a “given” . . . instead he seems DETERMINED to open his mouth proceed to alienate as many voters as possible -

  7. Nevar Says:

    Later this summer, huh?
Keep us posted, Pork Chop, we’ll be around.

Because, after all, it’s all about appearances and potential money, not firmly held beliefs about what’s right and what’s wrong, what’s acceptable and what’s offensive.

If we have any delusions that the McCain campaign will honor the “we won’t go there” promise, we’d better have our stomach distress bags handy. This is sure to get not only ugly, but downright filthy.

Barack, we’re counting on your leadership both before and after the election.

    PEACE

I don’t get it. Sen. Obama can say bitter and a shit storm happens.

mcchimpy’s buddy can make such vile statements and nothing from the liberal media.

McCain says “it’s tough, it’s tough in some respects” to be proud of America

  12. Nevar Says:

    From the linked article:
“Items posted Friday evening on the the Houston Chronicle’s “Texas on the Potomac” blog, along with Web pieces by ABC News and the Washington Post, triggered nearly 24 hours of sometimes-tense communications between the McCain campaign and the Williams camp.

“Late Saturday afternoon, a McCain aide confirmed to the Chronicle that the Midland event had been postponed but had not been taken off the calendar. The compromise allowed McCain to say he had not held a fundraiser at Williams’ house; it gave Williams an opportunity to say that the event he organized had not been canceled.

I find it interesting that the donors to the candidate’s campaign has so much clout. We can be assured McCain is being bought, and he is selling himself cheap.
What does Clayton Williams expect to get out of the deal? Director of Health and Human Services?

U.S. considers building hotel on notorious Alcatraz Island

The National Park Service is considering adding a hotel to Alcatraz Island, site of one of the world’s most notorious prisons.

Unlike the cells afforded to inmates such as Al “Scarface” Capone, the facility would offer upscale accommodations like those now available at the Ahwahnee Hotel in California’s Yosemite National Park.

  16. Zooey Says:

Rape is inevitable? When did Clayton Williams get raped? He must have enjoyed it.

  17. leftcoast Says:

“These were obviously incredibly offensive remarks that the campaign was unaware of at the time it was scheduled,” McCain spokesman Brian Rogers said.
According to ABC, Rogers said the event was being cancelled given the offensive comments

Apparently, the McCain campaign’s righteous indignation was meant only for the NEWS cycle, and not meant to establish any moral boundaries. Their actions make William’s remarks doubly offensive.

  18. 1st Republic 14th Star Says:

Williams was the 1990 Republican nominee for Texas governor. He’s the guy Ann Richards beat, in part because of that stupid remark from Williams. Texas clearly has a history of nominating stupid, insensitive Republicans for governor.

So McCain has postponed the event, but not canceled it? remember that the next time some “liberal” reporter says “straight talk from a maverick.”

  19. Nevar Says:

McCain might want to consider postponing his campaign, rather than simply canceling it.

The compromise will allow McCain to say he never lost an election, while America will have a chance to honorably elect a competent leader.

  20. 1st Republic 14th Star Says:

Oh, and one of the sub rosa GOP slogans in the 1990 campaign between Williams and Richards for Texas governor was “vote for Claytie, not the lady.”

  21. 1st Republic 14th Star Says:

“These were obviously incredibly offensive remarks that the campaign was unaware of at the time it was scheduled,” McCain spokesman Brian Rogers said.

How bad a campaign is McCain running? Clayton Williams was the 1990 GOP nominee for Texas governor. He lost to Ann Richards, and the “rape remark” not only played a large part, it made national headlines. Anyone over 30 who follows politics would surely recall that incident. Anyone under 30 knows how to do what McCain calls “a Google.” In other words, the McCain people are lying or inept. Whichever it is, neither is acceptable in a president.

    Family values?

  23. blue state bob Says:

Just waiting for the scrutiny (what there is from the ass kissing MSM) to blow over. McCain is a scum bag, the straight talk express flipped over into a swamp about 7 1/2 years ago. Good if someone in the press or the average American would recognize that.

  24. spencers mom Says:

I guess it would be asking too much for a man who calls his wife a c*nt to condemn a man for a rape joke.

    Class act, this one.

mcchimpy has to go dirty like his predecessors. This is all the repugs have. Where is the repug substance? Greedy to the point of death and murder.

mcchimpy is at his phoniest when he wants people to feel sorry for him. Look at the phony next time.

Forget his pow status, he isn’t the only person who has suffered and are suffering because of his ignorance. During that long ago time, the time warp he’s stuck in, the military was segregated back in your fu days, speak on that grandpa moses. What did you do, mcchimpy? SPEAK!

mcchimpy is using his pow bs for political gains which is pathetic to the utmost.

he’s a bshtter before, during, and after fakeass military “career.”

    Wow I feel better now.

  26. ninique Says:

this new revelation demonstrates McCain’s high family values and moral character and integrity.

because you know, it really is inevitable that our sons and daughters will be raped so they might as well kick back and play their XBOX while it happens.
You know how important it is that they don’t have sex until they’re raped because it just isn’t right.
And God forbid the rapist wear a condom!

  27. LoraS Says:

And let us not forget that Senator McPain (spelling deliberate) thought it was humorous to say in public that the reason Chelsea Clinton, then a child, is “so ugly is because Janet Reno is her father.” Cute, really cute. (sarcasm off)

How nice they were able to compromise without hurting each other’s feelings. To bad neither of them give a rat’s ass about women or their feelings.

As long as it’s inevitable, why postpone it?

  32. RUCerious Says:

Laz, good point, and why not invite gaggles of press coverage as well. They could interview this clown’s wife and ask her how she enjoyed her last rape. Assuming, the joker is married.
If not, they could ask him when the last time he had a stiffy rammed up his butt, and on a scale of one to ten, how much he relaxed and enjoyed it!

  38. Bobwurst Says:

Amy, go away. You lost. You ran a crappy campaign. do you really want a president who thinks that rape is enjoyable? Do you really want a president who will appoint supreme court judges who are like Scalia? Really? Are you that bad a loser? Will you blame Obama when abortion is outlawed?

  39. upside99 Says:

I guess we now have the “Sore Loser” Party at Puma. One of those cut-off-the-nose-to-spite-the-face driven groups. Sounds like my kids ……..when they were about 7 years old.

What are McCain’s positions that are so appealing, anyway?

    Inquiring minds want to know!

  40. Nevar Says:

Puma, by the way, is another name for cougar… which has become a slang term for a lonely older person “on the prowl”…

  41. John Kerry Says:

Obama Carter sickens me!! He thinks that, just because he did not vote to send our soldiers to Iraq (and just about everyone else did!) this makes him a viable candidate! What a f’ing joke. And he thinks because he took some course in college about international relations that he has qualifications to be our PresidenT! No f’in way!

The guy is an utter moron who can actually read teleprompters but when not having material written for him IN FRONT OF HIM he stutters like a child. Ever heard him speak “off the cuff”?? It’s f’in embarrassing!!

But his main problem that makes him a total loser is his judgment and all you libs know what I’m talking about! Wright, Rezko, etc etc. Do you REALLY want this incompetent dolt to run our country?
