Baghdad hit by deadliest attack in three months.

A car bomb exploded in a busy market in a mainly Shiite neighborhood in Baghdad today and killed at least 51 people, making it “the deadliest such attack in three months.” The blast “shattered the relative calm in the capital amid stepped up security measures” and came just as “the Iraqi parliament announced it will start holding sessions outside the U.S.-protected Green Zone in the fall.”

Oh, but we’re winning there because there were only 19 American deaths in May. Just ask any troll.

Violence is down, we are winning

Violence is up, we are winning.

We must stay or else there will be chaos and violence

    Bush/Cheney logic

How very sad… More death, and for what?

Can McCain and Lieberman really argue that the surge is a success?

    PEACE

  4. leftcoast says:

The newly self-proclaimed “McCain Surge” appears to be working.
    sarc off
I blame George Bush for everyone of those deaths today, just as I blame him for the deaths and maiming of our servicemen and women and Iraqi civilians. This is what you bring upon the world, Mr. Bush, when you set out to deceive the world.

    Said presidential candidate John McInsane:

“Thank God we’ll only have to deal with tragedies like this for another 100 years.”

  6. Paul W says:

But this can’t be! McCain has assured us we are winning.

  8. J says:

I wonder if that bomb was created and detonated by the US taxpayer money that went to either the Sunni “extremists” or to the Shiite “extremists”…

  9. sacopenapa says:

This will continue until the illegal and imoral occupation ends. FREE IRAQ NOW!

  10. sacopenapa says:

Extremist, terrorist, insurgentcy… this is just a ’slogan’. They are fighting an occupation! They are freedom fighters. If a foringner country invaded the US and started to build permanet military bases and obsecene emabassys there, and you started to use everything you have to fight the invaders, would you consider yourself a ‘terrorist’? ‘Extremist’? a ‘insurgent’?

  11. gunclinger says:

    sacopenapa,
Actually, there was nothing illegal about the Iraq war.

Familiarize yourself with the facts of the unanimously passed UN resolution 1441.

  12. J says:

The war was illegal for MANY reasons. I’m sure that no amount of non-working links could ever cover up all of them.

“I have indicated it was not in conformity with the UN charter from our point of view, from the charter point of view, it was illegal.” -Kofi Annan

  13. gunclinger says:

    J,
The law is actually not subjective here. The UN was infact unanimous, but you already know that. Kofi’s words are not binding and somewhat meaningless. I wonder who Kofi is referring to with his use of “our” ? Kofi doesn’t have a vote on the security council.

  14. dbadass says:

    gunclinger:
Whereas it is not entirely my area of expertise might you comment on the legality of the countless UN resolutions relative to the actions of the nation of Israel? Thanks

  15. J says:

    gunclinger,

While UN resolution 1441 did pass unanimously, it only did so because it’s purpose was to get weapons inspectors back into Iraq… not to attack them. The Annan quote was not in response to 1441, but to the war itself.

Perhaps it is you who needs to “familiarize yourself”.

The invasion was not sanctioned by the UN security council or in accordance with the UN’s founding charter. (period) You are correct, however, when you state that the law is not subjective. If only more people on the right could hold their own to that standard, our Country would not be in the mess that we are currently in.

Just a tip: It’s a bad idea to use the UN resolutions to defend the invasion of Iraq because it’s actually the quickest route to the truth with the least amount of research. I mean, which is it. Do you guys despise and want to destroy the UN or do you want to use our military to enforce every little resolution? Make up your mind. Your hypocrisy is obvious to everyone, but you.

  16. Marie says:

I don’t mean to diminish the Iraqi lives that have been lost, but the American death toll in Iraq has reached 4101, with 17 in June so far.
So, tell me, trolls, how good are things in Iarq these days? Bought any $5 rugs lately?

  17. J says:

Oh, and if you don’t believe me, then maybe you’ll believe your Iran-Contra guy: the ambassador for the United States at the time, John Negroponte *shutter*, who said about UN resolution 1441:

“[T]his resolution contains no “hidden triggers” and no “automaticity” with respect to the use of force. If there is a further Iraqi breach, reported to the Council by UNMOVIC, the IAEA or a Member State, the matter will return to the Council for discussions as required in paragraph 12.”

  18. Chocolate Jesus says:

wheres kilotwwaat to explain to us how we’re ignoring reality or something similar? are his community college philosophy classes out for the summer?

  19. sacopenapa says:

Gunclinger… familiarise yourself with international law and the concept of a ‘WAR of Agression’. The ultimate international crime. If you want to discuss UN resolutions and coutries who disregard them, the US and Israel have done much worse than Iraq, who was being falsely and criminaly acused by these two ‘terrorists’ states, of possessing WMD, when everybody knew the only WMD Iraq once had, in the 80’s, came from the USA. OK? The invasion and occupation of Iraq and Afegahnistan are internatinal crimes. They are illegal!
Now… “gunclinger’… with this little name, I think you are trying to compensate for something else!
