Beck: ‘It Is Approaching Treason’ To Elect A Progressive Congress

On his television show yesterday, CNN’s Glenn Beck invited conservative strategist Mary Matalin to discuss domestic drilling and energy issues. Matalin claimed — without evidence — that President Bush’s voluntary carbon reducing policies have cut back emissions in the U.S. while mandatory caps on carbon have not.

But Beck one-upped Matalin, lamenting that “we’re going to get a progressive Congress” that will not increase domestic nuclear energy production, something Beck declared “is approaching treason”:

MATALIN: But the data is explicit and it’s clear. By voluntary emissions reductions, our — our emissions are reduced here in the United States under Bush’s plan. And where it was mandatory, they are not reduced. [...] We could — we could do nuclear here. France — France has 80 percent of its energy from nuclear…

BECK: We’re not going to! We’re not going to. None of these candidates will do it. We’re going to get a progressive Congress — I swear to you. It is — it is approaching treason with these people in Washington. You know it and I know it, and every single American knows.

Watch it:

This is not the first time Beck has made unfounded attacks upon environmentalists or accused progressives of treason:

– Beck compared former Vice President Al Gore’s campaign to raise awareness of global warming to the Nazis, saying the global warming documentary An Inconvenient Truth is “like Hitler.”

– In an interview with Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN), a Congressional Progressive Caucus member and the first Muslim elected to Congress, Beck asked, “What I feel like saying is, ‘Sir, prove to me that you are not working with our enemies.’

– During the Southern California wildfires last year, Beck blamed the blaze ondamn environmentalists.”

Moreover, Matalin’s claims on emissions are unsubstantiated. Because of Bush’s voluntary emission policies, greenhouse gas emissions in the U.S. have actually increased from 2001 to 2006. In fact, mandatory emission standards have proven successful in many cases. For example, one prominent environmental study found “a marked overall decrease in emissions of pollutants subject to mandatory federal regulations” from 1991 to 2002.

Yes, Becker the pecker, what Bush and Cheney have done in washington is definitely TREASON, as well as WAR CRIMES.

I do so wish someone would fire this piece of crap subhuman idiot.

Beck should know…He’s out home with the Nazis propaganda that he loves to bring up

I got an idea. On January 21, 2009, let’s start locking these people up in the looney bin where they belong.

  6. Zooey says:

Why is TP giving this moronic, racist, bed-wetting fool attention?

  7. scytherius says:

Wow. These people are desperate. They realize they are going to get slaughtered in November and are utterly freaking out. I absolutely . . . love it!!!!!!!!!

  8. Anonymouse says:

Glen Beck confuses bigotry for patriotism.

  9. Badmoodman says:

What’s treasonous is every administration for the last 30 years not aggressively pursuing alternative fuel sources while we continue to fund authoritarian, repressive regimes because of their oil.

  10. Zooey says:

    Hi V!

It’s my opinion that no matter what the coverage Beck (and his type) gets, he’s just tickled pink about it.

    That makes me sick.

  11. StratRat says:

If the caps are voluntary, Bush’s companies won’t bother reducing pollution. If the caps are mandatory, Bush’s companies won’t bother reducing pollution.

Another simple answer to a simple question.

Oh, and BTW: Beck’s an idiot.

  12. dasm says:

These 2 couldn’t be more treasonous & anti-American if they tried.

  13. Oval12345678 aka James K. Sayre says:

The Bush crime family has given us (thanks a lot…) eight years of unadulterated treason. What is this moron Beck babbling about anyway?

  14. dasm says:

Beck & Matalin = treason & anti-Americanism. They are the anti-patriots. Remember that.

  15. dbadass says:

  16. Cats r Flyfishn says:

News flash for Beck… It is treason to disclose the identity of a CIA agent. It is treason to send our military off to an illegal war based on lies.

I’ve stopped watching CNN a little over one year ago. CNN is competing with FOX to be the most outrageous non-news station.

  17. Erroll says:

It is good to see Glenn Beck emulating Fox News’ slogan of being fair and balanced.

  18. Above the Clouds says:

At least Bush, Cheney and the neocons have proven once and for all that the Democrats aren’t what’s ailing America. I suppose I would be just as angry, frustrated and stupid as guys like Beck if I had to go on the air every night trying to prop up Mr. 28% and his Republican failure.

  19. StratRat says:

Let’s begin a new campaign and do something about the contamination of our media. Let’s begin listing the advertisers, one by one, who front these sycophants and then refuse to purchase their products. Money talks as we all know and they will soon feel the sting.

They WILL feel the sting. We forget how much power we posses with our pocketbooks and wallets. I am constantly looking for good companies who I want to give my money to. I dropped Verizon and ATT for obvious reasons. We all can decide if a store is worth doing business with. If they advertise on FOX and such, please keep you money in your pocket – or better yet, give it to progressive efforts and watch the world change for the better.

  20. SpoxLogic says:

Matalin states: “we could do nuclear here. France — France has 80 percent of its energy from nuclear…”

So NOW, the GOP wants to copy what the French do..? How about doing the same for Healthcare, Mary!?

  21. Roket says:

Who are Glen Beck and Mary Matalin?? If they’re neocons, then they’re like trees falling in the woods, I couldn’t hear them.

  23. Peter C says:

Classic projection. They accuse first so a counter-charge looks petty and unsubstantiated.

  24. Xisithrus says:

Neither of them are able to tell the truth because they are bought and paid for.

  25. Xisithrus says:

Beck is a serf for GE, of ocurse hes for nuclear energy because the taxpayer would subsidize it. Beck is a sellout.

  26. dbadass says:

With all due respect, you seem to have a lot of extra time on your hands. Did they ask the folks around Yucca Mtn. their thoughts? Waste disposal remains a legitimate question. What do the French do with theirs?

    RR:

California senator Barbara Boxer was wowed by nuclear energy in France, and figures it will have to be part of the energy mix as soon as the waste storage issue is sorted.

That’s not the only problem. France’s reactors used radioactive material, that they no longer produce in-country. If we want to start up again, we’ll either have to start mining it in the american southwest – possibly endangering the Colorado River water – or we can try to bargain for it with regimes like Niger, but that carries a whole raft of political problems with it.

  29. Winski says:

I’m glad Beck likes living under a dictator. Since he likes it so much, I think there we should pitch in a few bucks and buy him a ONE WAY FARE (coach)to Zimbabwe…See if he likes Mugabe…He’d fit right in!!

  30. SkepticRising says:

I’m probably mis-remembering the times of my youth, but it seems to me that under the more enlightened times of the 60’s the media in particular, and society at large, was much less willing to listen or provide a forum to delusional fools like Beck who couldn’t reason his way out of a light fog.

How is it that, along with the conservative congress and leadership since the 80’s, came this influx of morons that somehow have gotten a national soapbox from which to spew their idiocy?

  31. foolme1ns says:

Beck is just plain wrong, but why is this a surprise. Energy companies in several states are planning on building nuclear plants. One has already signed contracts.

Beck is a republican, and a liar, but I repeat myself.

  32. jnratliff says:

beck is way past insanity. lol hahahhahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha.

  33. Gregor Samsa says:

No question about it. Glenn Beck is an idiot.

Re: rogerese’s cut and paste nuclear power “comment” (what’s up dude, just can’t even pretend to think for yourself anymore?) it seems the RIght is floating a new balloon: it’s “Out with the ANWR, In with the Nuclear”?

In my current state of ignorance, I personally have no problem with nuclear power in principle. I do however have a problem with any current US company building one. The French know what they are doing, obviously, but the US? They haven’t built a reactor in 30 years, they keep losing material from Lawrence Livermore and other locations, and then there are the safety practices and disposal issues.

    AHHHHH,

    People please.

I’m tired of responding to articles of wanna bes.

Let me define a wanna be. A wanna be is anyone, be it a news repeater or a right wing political hack, who backs the Republican Party.

You and I know the Republican Party is in the shit can.

I suggest to focus articles on positive agendas like Impeaching Bush and Cheney. Like getting Gonzales to testify about the Attorney Generals that were fired, etc.

Reporting about right wing news repeaters and political hacks is a waste of time.

    Troubled

  38. ralph the wonder llama says:

WE can certainly thank Glenn Beck for diluting the term “treason” to the point of meaninglessness.

Although it must be noted that he’s really only finishing the job Mann Coulter began.

  39. questioneverything says:

They always call us what they themselves are guilty of–it is called projection. The only traitors here are Bushco–they have bankrupted this country to the benefit of other nations (China, Saudi Arabia, etc.). They have armed our enemies, ignored the real terrorists who came from Saudi Arabia, spied on you and me without cause, and lied, lied, lied so they can steal. Could we please arrest a few of these pricks? Someday?

  40. Troubled Texan says:

Lying to Congress and the American people to start a war, breaking the law by spying on Americans without warrants, ignoring the rule of law at will, politicizing the Justice Department, these things are fine but trying to save the planet by holding down greenhouse gasses, this is treason, punishable by death.

  42. had enough says:

These righties are saying ANYTHING even lying. Are the audiences that support these freaks really that stupid? No. They enjoy the lies as maybe if enough are told their man will win.

Did anyone hear Randi today… she played clips of Mike Reagan stating he would like to see bombs put up the rear end of Muslim babies and blown up. Blow up the mother’s too.

And the right owned media is letting these people get away with this.

  43. 5th Estate says:

    T-Texan:

On the one hand I don’t think its prudent to ignore the crap from the right, even though it is exhausting in its venality and puerility and bullshititude. Think of it as a record keeping exercise. If they are dismissed as not worth responding to, there is no response–see 200/2004. Details matter as much as the big picture becasue they make the big picture.
On the other hand, I catch your drift–it’s not enough to just complain about the other side, thare needs to be positive action on this side too–ageressive advocacy. The Wonl Room is a step in that direction but more could be done.

  44. Keith says:

Glen or Glenda, If Iranian politicians do not have domestic nuclear energy production, is that “approaching treason”?

  45. republicanSScareme says:

Glenn Beck acts like the complete Nazi even as he criticizes Nazis. What a whacko. He belongs in a padded cell.

  46. Xisithrus says:

Approaching treason is acting like a political pundit [a poor one at that] when in reality Beck is a corporate spokesman.

  47. Leftside Annie says:

Yeah, a PROGRESSIVE government is most definitely treason to those Constitution-shredding fascists.

    Good grief. Morons.

  48. the Lone Voice of Reason says:

Beck is an idiot, unfortunately so is half our population, who happen to get all their news from CNN.

I read that some close to McCain, secretly think that he may have been turned into a kind of “Manchurian Candidate” when he was a POW. Could that be true.??

  53. Chocolate Jesus says:

Hey Rodgerdraftdoger, as much as hate to even patronize fools such as yourself by talking to you, i wonder if you have any further information about this alleged “nucklear survey”..what was the exact questiion asked? Im going to go out on a limb and speculate that this poll was probably commisioned by some nuclear power profiteer and was probably worded something like “would you support more use of nuclear power IF it would cut your gas prices in half”? I’m also guessing the people in the survey were NOT asked if THEY were willing to live near a nuclear power plant themselves.

    Typical american attitude..sounds GREAT!…in someone else’s neighborhood..

these days, seems like the trolls are just phoning it in..you think their just doing it for the 10 cents per post?

  56. Max-1 says:

    TREASON:
    1. the offense of acting to overthrow one’s government or to harm or kill its sovereign.
    2. a violation of allegiance to one’s sovereign or to one’s state.
    3. the betrayal of a trust or confidence; breach of faith; treachery.
    —Synonyms
    1. Treason, sedition mean disloyalty or treachery to one’s country or its government. Treason is any attempt to overthrow the government or impair the well-being of a state to which one owes allegiance; the crime of giving aid or comfort to the enemies of one’s government. Sedition is any act, writing, speech, etc., directed unlawfully against state authority, the government, or constitution, or calculated to bring it into contempt or to incite others to hostility, ill will or disaffection; it does not amount to treason and therefore is not a capital offense.
    2. See disloyalty.

    So,
Someone please tell me how Beck sees usurping Constitutional Rights, War Crimes, outing a covert CIA agent, lying to the body of Congress so as to justify an act of murder, not an act of treason? Somehow the use of torture makes us safer… ?

  57. Max-1 says:

    .

When Congress votes to usurp my inherent and unalienable Right to Habeas Corpus…
    … THAT IS TREASON!

When Congress entertains immunity for the warrantless indiscriminate search of communications in America…
    … THAT IS TREASON!

When Congress says that Americans are a threat to America that needs containment because we peacefully gather to protest…
    … THAT IS TREASON!

… Or when The Government seeks to zone my FREEDOM of speech or any other Right and FREEDOM…
    … THAT IS TREASON!

MATALIN: But the data is explicit and it’s clear. By voluntary emissions reductions, our — our emissions are reduced here in the United States under Bush’s plan. And where it was mandatory, they are not reduced.

    A total lie of course

US GHG (greenhouse gas) emissions are increasing while most countries in Europe are reducing theirs to meet Kyoto-targets. Some are failing but most like the two largest economies/polluters in Europe UK and Germany are reducing their emissions

Just look at the Europe data and compare them to US data linked above
    http://europa.eu/rapid/pressReleasesAction.do?reference=IP/07/1774&format=HTML&aged=0&language=EN&guiLanguage=en

United States GHG emissions 1990-2005 up 17% from 6147 to 7176 million tonnes CO2 equivalent. 2001-2006 up 4,6%.

European Union GHG emissions 1990-2005 down 11% from 5621 to 5177 million tonnes.

Germany GHG emissions 1990-2005 down 19%, from 1227 to 1001 million tonnes.

UK GHG emissions 1990-2005 down 15%, from 771 to 657 million tonnes

  62. Wayne A. Schneider says:

Sorry, Beck, but you’ve got it all wrong. What would be “approaching treason” is to elect Republicans to government.

  63. Uncle Ho says:

    treason to elect liberals?

If this be treason, I intend to make the MOST of it.

    Now, Beck, Go Cheney yourself!

  64. Cal Malenky says:

  65. gitrdone says:

I think it’s treasonous to play on the fears of the people and lead a nation into a unjustified war which is bankrupting this nation at the expense of future generations.

The push to act on global warming to prevent a potential environmental catastrophe is 1 billion times more patriotic then pushing for meaningless wars.

    What would Jesus do?
