This afternoon in Houston, John McCain is delivering a “speech to energy industry leaders.” Seeking to boost his cash-strapped campaign, McCain appears to be ditching his principles in favor of policies more palatable to oil interests. A whopping 74 percent of McCain’s lifetime campaign contributions from the oil and gas industry has come since he announced for president. Brave New Films has put together this video highlighting the fact that “big oil fuels the Straight Talk Express.” Watch it:

It seems like politicians absolutely can’t live without pandering. They all have to kowtow to the right people during any campaign.
Surely, Frank Moore (running for president) would never pander to anyone.

June 17th, 2008 at 4:32 pmAPPEARS to be ditching his principles!!!!! He has pushed his whole miserable life into the ditch just for one taste of the WH.
What priciples are those? Pandering, warmongering and flipflopping on every issue that comes along. He is as shameless as the SHRUB…….
June 17th, 2008 at 4:36 pmYou can’t have a third boob term without texass tea. They have to keep up the facade or else Americans will figure out how inflated oil (and gas) prices are.
June 17th, 2008 at 4:37 pmi FIND it hypocritical that conservatives assail liberals and progressives from taking money from “special interests” in which they mean unions, teachers, trial lawyers, etc. but keep silent when it comes to themselves taking money from Big Oil and other corporations.

It’s unclear if McCain ever had any principles, he was after all, a player in the Keating savings & loan scandal. But now that he can taste the White House, McCain has abandoned any pretext of principles or integrity.

June 17th, 2008 at 4:49 pm6: Jeeze, do you mean the oil companies have the same amount of economic power that teachers have?
How much is your teacher charging you to fill up your car?
(And who really is helping your kids? Oh yeah, the oil companies.)

June 17th, 2008 at 4:53 pmStraight talk with an oily tongue?
June 17th, 2008 at 6:22 pmThe Pentagon is the single biggest customer Oil has, wars raise Oil prices nicely and war gives Oil exculusive rights to other peoples oil. Oil likes war and knows who to go to get one or two started for them. Oil was $35 back in the boreing old days - and I think it is safe to say that $150 per barrel made up for Oil’s investments in Bush, Cheney - so you can’t really blame Oil for rooting for MCain, and they have Much deeper pockets than they did 7 years ago, especialy with no windfall tax these days.
June 17th, 2008 at 6:38 pm#7 Here are some other stats on campaign donations.
Oil and Gas Industry
An examination of campaign contributions by individuals from the oil and gas industry by the Center for Responsive Politics reveals that of the current candidates, McCain has been the largest recipient of their largesse. So far, they have given him more than $404,000 for his presidential campaign. This figure is significantly higher than their contributions to Clinton ($309,363) and Obama ($222,309). In fact, nearly 70 percent of the industry’s donations in the 2008 White House race have gone to McCain and other Republicans.
