Again, the true Regressives are the ones who want to drive up the cost of oil by sitting on their leases and doing nothing...it's a shell game where Big Oil's allies ignore this inconvenient fact and blame liberals and PROGRESSIVES and unfortunately, this works wonders on some people...

You got me. Muslims. I stand corrected. Great point. Glad you made it. Thank you. Appreciate it. Good job. You are the man!

No, I'm serious. You obviously meant to include an apostrophe there, since neither "m" or "s" is near that key. So it was a conscious, or at least semi-conscious decision.

Why?

What convinced you that "Muslim's" was proper?

It just so happens that "Big Oil" is sitting on around 68 million acres of leases and not drilling so they can help drive the price up. According to a recent study by my congresscritter, Nick Rahall (D-WV), the amount that they could produce would double our daily output of oil and jump the natural gas output by a whopping 75 percent! That's why he introduced his "use it or lose it" bill just the other day.

Anyone who tells you that the price of gas is being driven up by the "liberals" is lying. Think about this for a minute. The last time we saw long lines at the pumps, a antionally lowered speed limit on interstate highways, and talk of odd/ even day rationing was back when Dick Nixon was running the "shortage" scam, driving gas prices up to over a buck a gallon.

Legislation to close the "Enron Loophole" is sitting on Bush's desk, waiting to be signed, attached to the Farm Bill he's threatening to veto. In case you hadn't heard, the "Enron Loophole" is the little hat trick that lets hedge fund managers drive the price of fuel up by speculating. Experts estimate that when the oil market bubble is deflated by closing the loophole, we'll see gas and deisel prices drop down to around half what they are now.

The price of crude oil today is not made according to any traditional relation of supply to demand. It's controlled by an elaborate financial market system as well as by the four major Anglo-American oil companies. As much as 60% of today's crude oil price is pure speculation driven by large trader banks and hedge funds. It has nothing to do with the convenient myths of Peak Oil. It has to do with control of oil and its price.

So don't let them tell you Dem's aren't doing anything about the fuel prices. And don't count on the Repubs to help the Dems overide Bush's veto of that Farm bill, either, because I have a sneaking suspicion that there's a bunch of them getting rich off speculating.

We will need to expand drilling at some point... but the first step is to repeal the tax breaks for XOM, Shell and AP. Why integrated oil companies are given huge tax breaks, when they profit up and downsteam is beyond me.

Oh, that's right... because King Bush and the Bushies are 'big oil' whores.

TheRight Says:

Global warming is to Regressives what Islam is to Muslim’s.

Here's something that has always intrigued me... why would someone pluralize a noun properly ("Regressives") and then in the same sentence, use an apostrophe to pluralize another noun "Muslim's")?

I mean, what is the principle behind this grammatical choice? What determines when someone uses an apostrophe to pluralize a noun and when they don't?

We know TheWrong is not going to come up with a decent point, but can't we at least ask him to use consistent grammar when he doesn't?

So you Regressives and DNCBots want to use food (i.e. corn) to make fuel for our cars.

Are you talking about the 40% of our corn crop that is underwater in the Midwest?

Maybe the Saudi Arabia or Iran will sell us some of their corn so we can make Ethanol.

A typical outdoor barbeque with a Regressive goes like this.

Oil on the Cob cooked over a fire fueled by dried corn cobs.

DNCBot motto:

Let them eat oil! Use food for fuel!

We have a scattered few trolls here who are just clever enough to be amusing. TheWrong is not one of these trolls.

It doesn't even realize that the strongest proponents of corn-based ethanol as a fuel source are legislators from the rural midwest and Great Plains. Overwhelmingly, a Republican contingent.

Also, it has a tough time keeping track of who really are the regressives.

P.S. As for you, "The Right," there's a lot of different names that would suit you well, but "Right" is definitely not one of them.

If there is a lot more oil out there, then maybe we should go after it–but only after we nationalize the oil companies.

First of all, I agree completely that the oil companies should be nationalized. They've had their shot to do the right thing for this country, and they've failed. They also control the oil refineries that so many on the Right complain that "we need to be able to build more." Bull...they are operating at only about 80% capacity. Why? And the oil companies currently have drilling rights to 68 million acres in the country. Why aren't they drilling? Well...we all know the answer to both "Why's" Nationalizing the oil companies would end that, and end the power they've had over our Congress for way too many decades. Enough is enough.

The whole ANWAR and off-coast drilling boils down to an attack on all environmental regulations. I can't remember right off who said it a couple of years ago, but some Republican stated that opening ANWAR would break down the gates on environmental regulations.

By trying to turn the gas problem into an argument about drilling, the right is trying to say that more oil will solve the problem.
Do we have shortages? Long lines at the pump? W do not.
There's plenty--just at back breaking prices.
More gas will not help--if it's expensive.
More cheap gas would do it, certainly.

Now, the question is, would the ANWR gas or the offshore gas be cheap gas? There's absolutely no indication that that is the case.
The reasons for this are two:
1) The cheap, easy to extract, sweet crude, has long ago been exhausted domestically.
and 2) The companies we will be leasing the areas to have absolutely no reason to bring the oil in cheap.

If you were an oil typhoon, and your company found a vast new field of oil under the Clampett properties, would you start pumping as much as you could in order to bring the price down? Or would you say, holy crap, st 4 bucks a gallon we'll be making a fortune!

I call them DNCBots or DemoBots. They just recite the words produced by Howie Beanie and his goofy cohorts at the DNC.

Look, you guys had a good run but it's over......time to face reality.

TheRight Says:

There are many reasons oil companies do not drill for on the leases they have. One reason is because there is no oil there or not enough to make it worth their while.

Then why, oh, why would oil companies continue to pay for these leases if there’s no oil?
