Obama smear merchant has lengthy criminal record.

Today, notorious Obama smear-peddler Larry Sinclair will speak at the National Press Club, presumably to continue to promote unfounded lies about Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL). Politico’s Ben Smith reports that Sinclair’s history “may get in the way of that pitch,” as he has a 27-year criminal record, “with a specialty in crimes involving deceit.” The charges included forgegy and stealing someone’s tax returns; Sinclair is listed as “Wanted” by the Peublo County, CO Sheriff’s Office.

What’s the problem? That makes him the ideal spokesperson for the NPC.

or he could troll for the rnc.

  3. DRxJ says:

    Just one question:
Why would an organization such as National Press Club allow an individual to speak, who is “Wanted”???
Does that mean NPC is harboring criminals?

  4. ScaryBrownHusseinChick (ThinkOutsideTheBush) says:

Well, this will certainly make it easier for the Pueblo County Sheriff’s office to find him.

“Wanted.” A national press with some integrity. Competence would be nice too.

Well Sinclair typifies the conservative, republican standard.

  7. misshusseinmolly says:

Let’s see — this is the same National Press Club that now features Jeff Gannon as one of their bloggers? And they provide wanted criminals with a forum to tell lies?

I don’t understand why this entity is treated like it has any legitimacy at all. The National Enquirer appears to have more integrity.

  8. Dumb_Hussein_Fox says:

So Larry the Fable Guy is also Larry the Felon.

    Larry Sinclair = rogerse?

  10. AlphaLiberal says:

Between featuring this joke and hosting a blog by Jeff Gannon the National Press Club has got a blatant right-wing bias. Or maybe they’re just sucking up to those in power?

Really, it’s getting to be scandalous.

Hmmm…imagine him getting arrested right in the middle of his spiel. I wonder what that would do for his “sheen of legitimacy”?

  13. JMOHR says:

This once again proves the stranglehold that the right wing has over the press. We need to attack the press for becoming a tool of very narrow economic and political interest groups. We have lived for too long under the false myth of the “liberal” press. This is the perfect example of how it can be made to work for liberals.

  14. Buckie Boy says:

Which makes him a near perfect republican’t.

  15. tarazan says:

National Press Club lost its integrity by bringing criminals to speak, criminals who have long criminal records, 27 years is a long time .
In one time I used to have respect for N .Press Club ,sadly I don’t now.

No problem. After this, if he ever gets convicted for his many crimes, Bush will commute his sentence.

I don’t understand why Obama doesn’t charge him with slander. I know that many will say that would just bring the whole sordid affair into the open, but it’s there anyway. And if Obama sues this guy, the world will know that he has nothing except for his lying assertions. He has no proof other than his word and it isn’t worth much. I also read that he is very ill and may not live much longer. Perhaps this is his way of trying to keep getting his 15 minutes of fame. No matter, someone needs to do something about him.

I think it’s his attempt to get a room with a view when he goes to hell.

    Frogmarch this jerkoff liar.

  22. shoeless says:

Doesn’t Washington DC have it’s own police department?

  23. Leftside Annie says:

I find it truly unbelievable that anyone (well, except maybe the cops) would give this loser the time of day.

But then again, these people are Republicans – therefore NOTHING is beneath them. No slime too slimy, no filth too filthy for them to wallow in, eh?

  24. RUCerious says:

And did he not also FAIL a lie detector test?

C’mon NPC, why don’t you just have a noose hanging from the front door?

    Larry Sinclair = rogerse?

sorry ralph i’ve got rogerse pegged as jeff gannon. his love of plagiarism (and endless copying and pasting), atrocious spelling and just plain bad syntax makes it a metaphysical certainty. larry sinclair, on the other hand, is an original liar and rogerse has never posted an original thought in his life.

  28. Shayne says:

Maybe he needs to promote this on a more visible forum than YouTube to get sued and that’s what Obama is waiting for.

I watched the video on YouTube a while ago and as a long time Chicago resident can tell you how hysterical it is. The guy says worked out of Gurnee which is a long way from Chicago. From the Rush Street areas withouth any heavy traffic it’s probably about 90 minutes each way. And he said he took Obama back to his motel room from Rush Street for the encounter. Sure, because there’s hardly anyplace to go between those two points. Plenty of man on man sex is carried on at Bughouse Square (Washington Park) half a block from there and nobody would notice.
In addition, Gurnee is where Bass Pro Shops had one of the first big national stores before they expanded the chain. And when I saw him I thought he looked like a fisherman who had been to Bass Pro and “backed in” to the rest of the story from there.

    ________________________________________________

I suspect that’s because in a slander suit, the plaintiff must demonstrate that his/her reputation was harmed by the defendant’s lies. Chances are pretty good that this jerk won’t affect Obama’s poll numbers, as the only people who will give him any credence are people who oppose Obama anyway.

However, if anything Sinclair says goes viral and starts dominating the media like the YouTubes of Reverend Wright did, Obama would probably have a case.

  31. tarazan says:

A speaker with such criminal record ,National Press Club needs to check if this guy’s speech is not plagiarized. !!

  32. Doc Rock says:

I presume he will be arrested and held for the Pueblo authorities to start extradiction proceedings?

  33. bluestatedon says:

Nothing highlights the abysmal level to which “professional journalism” has sunk in this country any better than the NPC’s giving this degenerate crank a soapbox. It’s tantamount to the American Medical Association allowing someone who disputes the germ theory of disease to speak at the AMA national convention. Any “professional journalist” who still belongs to the NPC after this demonstrates a complete and total lack of integrity and credibility, and forfeits the right to be taken seriously.

Gannon and Sinclair, a prostitute and a con man: I can’t think of two better representatives of the American press during the Bush years.

  35. Keith says:

I phoned the NPC again today and gave them a piece of my mind. I’m not going to have many pieces left.

  37. The Shadow says:

Please join me in contacting the Sheriff’s Office in Pueblo, Colorado about arresting Larry Sinclair at this event. I’m sure if he is wanted the Sheriff’s Office will gladly take a trip to New York to arrest him since they will know exactly where he is. This will also be good publicity for them and law enforcement in general.

  38. MapleStreet says:

Any chance he can be arrested at the event for extradition back to Colorado ?

(And if he gets diverted for extraordinary rendition……

  39. Laszlo Panaflex says:

Extradition does not appear likely unless a new warrant is put out. From the Politico link above:

“Despite the warrant for Sinclair’s arrest, he appears likely to stay out of jail, as long as he stays out of Colorado. Pueblo County Undersheriff J.R. Hall said that the warrant doesn’t allow for extradition from out of state….

“Sinclair’s notoriety, and his scheduled press conference, however, has drawn the interest of the Colorado authorities. ‘We’ve notified the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and they will investigate,’ Hall said.”

    ______

Because it’s extremely difficult for a public figure to successfully sue for libel or slander. Obama would not only have to prove that the allegations are untrue, and that Sinclair acted with malice in making accusations that he knew to be untrue, but that the allegations directly harmed either his fundraising efforts or ability to conduct his campaign.

All Sinclair has to do in defense is say that he believed the lies to be true and felt he was acting in the public interest in telling them. Unless he left a paper trail in which he admits to maliciously lying, he’ll probably win.

  42. nycbassist says:

I had called the National Press Club and voice my opinion about this taking place, and was given the directors email addres. Following is the letter I received in response.

    …………………Jack:

Thanks for your note. Journalism occurs when journalists decide to cover an event or not. After they decide to cover it they then decide to write about it or not – this is also an act of journalisml. Most people think journalism begins when reporters start to write about an event. But few people believe that the act of allowing a news conference to take place is an act of journalism. We don’t believe it is. Journalism happens after that. Our invitation to a speaker may be an act of journalism…but in this case Mr. Sinclair is simply renting a room. Our allowing that is not a journalistic act.

    Best,

    William C. McCarren
