The LA Times reports that NBC Nightly News anchor Brian Williams will host Meet the Press this Sunday, although the network is still “pondering a permanent replacement” for the late Tim Russert.
As for a real replacement, you wouldn't want to put anyone in there whom you really liked, or anyone with even a vestigial spine.
The weight of management/executive interference from the heights would destroy a better person. You need someone like Timmeh, oleaginous, and flabby, to ooze into the cracks and interstices, like batter on a griddle.
this was discussed extensively on a thread at C&L over the past weekend... i did not remember that time, but learned that the original incarnation of the show was a revolving panel of journalists - hence, "MEET THE PRESS"...
i remember that a great many of the commenters thought that type of format would be the best - especially at this chaotic time for nbc...
i really like that idea myself... with a good moderator, maybe a revolving position also...
7. Good idea, Katy. Michael Ware or Lara Logan in there for shows focusing on Iraq...Wouldn't mind seeing Helen Thomas turned loose on Josh Bolten, or Jonathan Turley cornering Mukasey.
Meet the Press is a weekly American television news/interview program produced by NBC. ... Meet the Press and similar Sunday-morning interview shows specialize in interviewing national leaders on issues of state economics and foreign policy. These shows help fulfill the obligations of the networks to provide a public service to the community.
ah hahahaha! aahhh... how quaint...
...
the wiki already has this 'brian williams' story there,
and then some...
News value to him is extended coverage of Tiger Woods' knee. Nothing about Iraq. Mention in passing the floods along the Mississippi. And then, deifying Tim Russert (AKA Dick Cheney's sock puppet) with more coverage than even JFK's death got.
Who cares who hosts Meet the Press at this point? It ceased being a show where the media questioned our political leaders, and instead became the place for politicians to spread their orchestrated lies and propaganda. The show went from challenging those in power to enabling those in power to spread propaganda and lie to the country.
Anyone thinking of Dan Abrams?
Law Degree, Political Science degree, son of a Constitutional attorney.
I doubt that a replacement will be taken from MSNBC and they will take someone from the msm network or print media, but Dan Abrams is smart, pretty centrist, fair and prepared.
David Gregory gets my vote. Sorry, Tweety.
June 19th, 2008 at 4:55 pmI saw "Brian Williams" and “pondering a permanent replacement”, and I swear I "read" "a pandering permanent replacement." Swear to gawd...
June 19th, 2008 at 4:57 pmI'm OK with this, as he's the least obsequious of the slobbering MSM sycophants.
June 19th, 2008 at 5:00 pmthis is a step backwards.

That's fine for right now. And I hope NBC doesn't hire Tweety as a replacement to Tim Russert. Tweety won't get a vote by me.

June 19th, 2008 at 5:08 pmBrian Williams...boo
Tweety...booooooooo
Tom Brokaw would be ok
David Schuster....YES
Rachel Maddow would rock but I have a better chance of getting the nod than she does :)~
June 19th, 2008 at 5:08 pmIs this the same Brian Williams who finds Peggy Noonan's babbling so inciteful? Yippie.
June 19th, 2008 at 5:12 pmIf Brian Williams is hosting this Sunday, out of respect for Russert, NBC should rebrand the show as SOFTBALL.
June 19th, 2008 at 5:13 pmtokin, that was quite poetic.
June 19th, 2008 at 5:13 pmSTEPHEN COLBERT!!!!
June 19th, 2008 at 5:14 pmIt will be his duty to interview Rush Butterball.
June 19th, 2008 at 5:17 pmbogtrotters Says:

STEPHEN COLBERT!!!!
But with Lara Logan. The ratings would skyrocket. Not sure what kind of show it would be, but I'd watch!
June 19th, 2008 at 5:21 pmRevolving hosts is OK with me.
June 19th, 2008 at 5:26 pm.
How about a panel of "press" (3 or 4) or would it feel too much like they're ganging up on them?
Brian is just the light weight NBC is looking for. Perfect for Press The Flesh!
June 19th, 2008 at 5:29 pmHey! Nude Man, you're effing flagged. Off topic, not a hint of intelligence from your posting.

June 19th, 2008 at 6:10 pmRichard Simmons and Don King worked out so well for FOX, MTP should hire them.
June 19th, 2008 at 6:14 pmLet's hope Brian grows a spine soon.
Let's also hope he leaves behind the dramatic 'big story' attitude.
June 19th, 2008 at 6:15 pmWhoever it is simply make them answer the questions or get off the stage.
June 19th, 2008 at 6:29 pmBrian Williams = Brit Hume wannabee.
News value to him is extended coverage of Tiger Woods' knee. Nothing about Iraq. Mention in passing the floods along the Mississippi. And then, deifying Tim Russert (AKA Dick Cheney's sock puppet) with more coverage than even JFK's death got.
Do people really watch this stuff?
June 19th, 2008 at 6:45 pmBrian is bigger, Fascist, Corporate Tool than Russert Potato was!!!
THE MEDIA JUST CAN'T STOP SUCKIN'!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
