Taguba: ‘The current administration has committed war crimes’ and needs to ‘be held to account.’»

In the preface to a report by Physicians for Human Rights on the “medical evidence of torture by the U.S.,” former Abu Ghraib investigator ret. Army Maj. Gen. Antonio Taguba writes that President Bush “authorized a systematic regime of torture” that has stained “our national honor.” Taguba, who first spoke out publicly in June 2007, bluntly accuses the Bush administration of committing war crimes:

After years of disclosures by government investigations, media accounts, and reports from human rights organizations, there is no longer any doubt as to whether the current administration has committed war crimes. The only question that remains to be answered is whether those who ordered the use of torture will be held to account.

The report found that medical examinations of 11 former detainees revealed “scars and other injuries consistent with their accounts of beatings, electric shocks, shackling and, in at least one case, sodomy.”

Yeah, and? What will be done? Will the press report it? Will there be hearings? An investigation? Will people be held accountable?

The answer to all these questions is a big fat NO.

Hell, the dems just caved on telecom immunity. They won’t even consider impeachment.

What kind of country do we live in now? WTF?

  2. RUCerious Says:

AND in Massachussetts, as we speak, war crimes charges are being written up. Momentum, folks, let’s get momentum…

  3. citizen_pain Says:

The only war crimes charges that would ever see the light of day would come from a foregn country, not the Fascist States of America.

I hope the players in this criminal empire they call the Bu$h White House travel abroad when they are out of office.

I’d love to see Interpol arrest these people and send them straight to the Hague.

But that ain’t gonna happen from within our country.

Hmmm, maybe someone could ask Bush why he purchased 800,000 acres in Paraguay. I don’t think we have an extradition treaty with Paraguay, and Bush has all the KBR and Blackwater thugs at his disposal. It sounds like Bush is destroying the country and running like a thief to the South American jungle.

Think about it: Before Bush was preznit, he NEVER went ANYWHERE!!!! Now he has war crimes hanging over his head, he buys property in a place very few Americans would call home. The guy doesn’t even speak good Spanish - or English for that matter.

  26. Arn Gunnutes Says:

  28. StratRat Says:

    rogerse Says:

Yeah, so what?.the gop already tried supporting impeachment, the dems refused…so you all know who to blame.

Bush - We blame bush. It truly makes me sad to think that an American - with the numerous examples of criminality - would still be supporting the administration over the country and it’s citizens. I am trying to get my head around the fact that there are some who will stand with Bush till the ends of time - no matter what he has done or will do. It truly makes me sick that instead of thinking about the impact on our country and way of life, they would rather Bush be hailed as a hero, and not the low form of human existance he is.

The folks here (rogereseses) is a paid (not very well, I presume) shill for Bush and the GOP. There is literally no way someone who thinks, could consider Bush anything but an abysmal failure of governement and leadership.

The posters who support Bush need to labeled for what they are: traitors to the country and the Consitution. There is no other way to describe them. You cannot support both the Constitution and Bush at the same time - they are mutually exclusive philisophies. Some folks here have already staked their claim and stand by Bush. God only knows why.

  35. Angry McAngus Says:

The only question that remains to be answered is whether those who ordered the use of torture will be held to account.

And I think we all know the answer to that fookin question don’t we Nancy, Steny, Harry?

  36. Max-1 Says:

    rogerse,
I’m saying you never answered my question…

If the GOOPers supported impeaching Cheney, where are their signatures of support on the impeachment resolution, H.Res 333?

It was a simple, albeit seemingly rhetorical question, that flew over your TROOLISH head.

Or better yet, where are the GOOPer articles of impeachment?

The House voted to move it to the Judiciary to die… I never heard the GOOPers argue against letting the motion die, did you?

  37. Bob Says:

I’ve thought for a long time that a democratic prez would’ve been impeached a long time ago for doing the same things. Rs would’ve pushed that through to ensure a re-election was impossible. I don’t think a (D) would’ve had 35 to 60 articles against him, though. Of course, he would’ve only had half the time to commit those ‘high crimes’.

  38. StratRat Says:

    rogerse Says:

    Max-1 Says:

don’t you get it…the dems voted to send it to die, they supported that, the gop voted in favour of it…regardless of the lack of sighnatures, or how sincere the support was, all the dems had to do was vote the same if they actually wanted impeachment.

Someone here is hiding behind technicalities and postures. Do you support the impeachment of your president for the numerous crimes against the country and the planet? The Dems did what the Dems did because they are weak and ineffectual. We will rid the Congress of those folks in due time, no problem. What do YOU THINK? Can you make an individual decision? lets hear it, please.

Rogerse, are you for or against sodomizing iraqui detainees which were not Al Qaida terrorists?

  40. sacopenapa Says:

If The United States of America ever gets serious about restoring its international image, they have to prossecute this administration for WAR CRIMES. Around the globe people are aware of it. If this criminals walk away as though nothing happened… well, ‘god help america’!
They commited WAR CRIMES. This is a very serious matter! Bush, Chenney, Perle, Wolfowitz, Rice, Gates, Powell, Rumsfeld, etc. They all have to face an international court for what they have done. Many people died. American, Iraquis and Afehgan alike. They lost their lives because of these imoral criminals. HAGUE 2009. Plus, the truth about 9/11 has yet to come out. Too many ununswered questions pointing out to an inside job. Where are the 84 videos of the Pentagon alledged attack? Why they are not made public yet? What are they hiding? How can the CIA destroy videos of the interrogations? Destroying evidence is a federal crime! They are trying to hide their WAR CRIMES! These are very dark clouds haging over a country that used to be GREAT. Not anymore… since the stolen elections of 2000. How can a TRAITOR like Rove still be free??? Can a normal worker, a tax payer ignore a subponea? The people should be surrounding Congress and the WH and demanding accountability. Now, the enablers (DEMOCRATS) are caving in to the telecommunication companies imunity bull. These companies commited a federal crime! Democrats are playing ‘politics’ with the rights and freedoms of the people of the US. They are stabbing in the back the people of the United states. The workers! Who now are paying top dollars for petrol, which makes everything else go up in price, while wages remain steady. Lucy if you are employed! The economy is going down the drain… the military industry complex is getting more than half of the tax payers contributions, while health, education, employment, and infraestucture are being neglected. FACISM has prevailed. WAORKES OF THE WORLD, UNITE! TAKE BACK YOUR COUNTRY, WHILE IT STILL EXISTS!

gitrdone… you refer to Bush as “your Dear Leader”… wow! North Korea use the same expression, so did NAZI germans and Italian FACISTS. A president should never be refered as “Dear Leader”… it takes the engines of democracy away, when governements are not held accountable for their actions and the their words are taken as absolute. I love democracy. Yours has gone down the drain, thanks to your “Dear Leader”. And he IS A WAR CRIMINAL! Years from now, you be thinking back to this “Dear Leader” comments and hopefully get ashamed to support a criminal.

  47. sacopenapa Says:

  52. Bluestocking Says:

As I said on the ThinkFast thread earlier today, the growing number of people who’ve been on the inside of this whole mess (either currently or previously) who’ve publicly condemned it should at least say something. One person can be dismissed as a crank or as a “disgruntled former employee” — but the larger the number becomes, the harder it becomes (or at least, the harder it should become) to dismiss the allegations, especially when they include a member of the top brass like Taguba.

That being said, I don’t think Taguba should get a pass since it was he who filed the report blaming then-Brigadier General (now Colonel) Janis Karpinski for what happened at Abu Ghraib. The information that has been made public over the last few months would certainly seem to back up her claims that the Bush administration used her as a convenient scapegoat — and personally, I’m still inclined to suspect that they might not have done this to her had she been a man.

  53. mrcolson Says:

For what its worth, I just sent a letter to the NYT (Public Editor and Letters) asking why they haven’t covered Taguba’s charges.

Maybe a few more people could do the same.

As far as I’m concerned, their silence on this is hardly better than having allowed Judith Miller to print all those lies that helped get is into Iraq.
