Website pulls down racist Obama t-shirts.»

Michael James at DailyKos spotted several racist t-shirts targeting Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL) being sold on the website Road Kill T-Shirts, which says that it sells “funny” shirts. Some of the designs featured a noose and Ku Klux Klan members chasing Obama:

After writing an e-mail to the company, James received a response that it has removed the offending items. “We recently hired a freelancer to create designs and post them on our site,” wrote Mike from Road Kill T-Shirts. “We have teams of them and, unfortunately, these were put up in the last couple of days without approval. While the site can be edgy…I can guarantee you this is not the type of stuff we approve of.”

Cue rogerse to tell us how these shirts aren’t racist in 3, 2, 1…

  2. dasm Says:

This garbage needs to be thrown in McCain’s face, the way his campaign throws everything they can find at the Obamas.

  3. octamethyl Says:

We should design an elder abuse t shirt and put McAncient’s puffy face on it.

There, I fixed it for you, Mike from Road Kill T-Shirts.

As a wild for Obama suppoter, I do take exception to so many disparaging remarks about “age” applied across the board. It’s not actual age, but psychological age that should be the issue being discussed.. Let’s face the fact that someone could be an inspiring, talented leader at 72 (and “elder statesman like Ghandh, Manedela) but what makes McCain old is his state of mind. His stiff, tired body simply reflects that state of mind, but in fairness to people who are open-minded and live in relaxed easeful bodies in their mid-70’s, I say more power to them and we should be careful not to disparage everyone over a certain age. Young at heart is a valid adage here. McCain has an ossified old heart. Obama exudes openness in the ease with which he moves around.

I’m not quite so sure I’d blame McCain for this one, without some evidence that he or his staff instigated it. It could very well be the work of independent racists. Or just independent ignoramuses who think they’re funny.

However, McCain must condemn this type of racism in this campaign, or his silence will imply tacit approval.

  8. Zimzone Says:

Hmmm, but they’re getting free advertising on TP?

Maybe I’m upset because of Telcom immunity today. In addition, they do it on a Friday, which is supposed to be a day to celebrate. I don’t fell much like celebrating today, however.

Get used to racists claiming they’re ‘just having fun’, ‘didn’t realize it was racist’, ‘we didn’t know it was there’, ad nauseum.

They’ll be crawling out of the woodwork for this election, mark my words. In fact, Obama could spark a reaction that would make racism ‘cool’ again.

T-Shirts won’t change the world, but free advertising on a website appears to give this sorry ass manufacturer a free ride.

  9. Bob Says:

I thought they called it the White House because of the color of the paint. That’s not the reason? I also thought it was 2008 not 1858. Are we headed for another Civil War?

    Bull cowpaies!

In other words, these weren’t approved for sale… yet were featured for sale because they were never… VETTED!

This is serious CYA… for RACIST paraphernalia they sold.

I am trying to visualize someplace in the U.S. where you can still walk out of your home wearing this racist crap without being ostracized and ridiculed by everyone you encounter. Can’t do it but sadly I suspect such lands exist, perhaps in many places and not all south of the Mason-Dixon line.

    Curious George T-shirts.

  21. Hussein McCain Says:

Exposing isn’t the same as advertising. Expose it so society can condemn it. Would-be t-shirt wearers might figure out that the era of “Heh, ain’t it great to be a racist” is finally in its death-throes.

  22. RUCerious Says:

Roger, I’ll buy one of these shirts for you if you promise to stroll down Alameda & Central in downtown LA wearing it…

  23. Hussein McCain Says:

Great gobs of gooey love on you rogerse, step into the light.

  38. barfly Says:

Too bad they stopped selling them - it would be great to buy about twenty, and have anti-war supporters wear them under their shirts to McCain events, and reveal them at a predetermined time.

    Bob Says:

I thought they called it the White House because of the color of the paint. That’s not the reason? I also thought it was 2008 not 1858. Are we headed for another Civil War?

No, don’t worry Bob. After Barak Obama becomes president, if the Republicans want to secede from the union, we will just give them Idaho. Then they will be free to cut taxes to zero, tear down the schools, and shoot stop signs from the passenger side windows of their pickup trucks. Of course, we will have to erect a wall around the entire state so they can’t fling their feces at the humans.

  40. j swift Says:

This kind of crap is just the beginning. It will get worse and frankly I expect some right wing nutter to try to harm him. Racism is not dead in this country, not one foot in the grave, not even close. It has just become impolite to express it in public. I expect that there are nearly as many racist cracker types in the country as before they just don’t have the social/political dominance to swagger round and show off their bigotry.

  41. shoeless Says:

Tracist5, aren’t you upset about this, since one of your “best friends is black”?

  42. The Shadow Says:

For all of those idiot racists who think this thing was funny, you are all beneath contempt. When you spread your racist views you help the terrorists win. You are too busy hating blacks to fight terrorism because you’re to stupid to do more than one thing at a time. This country was built on the sweat and blood of all Americans including Blacks. You morons refuse to admit that Black soldiers have fought and died for this country since the beginning and are still fighting in Iraq and Afganistan.

But that’s not enough for you idiots. Your hate for Blacks and lack of it for Arab terrorists proves how stupid your really are. People like Bob who hate blacks are smart enough to realize who the real enemy is. That is exactly why Muhammand Ata and the other 18 terrorists were allowed to carry out their cowardly attacks. Because they were trusted by whites who would have be watching 19 Black men who wanted to attend flight school like a hawh. The terrorists knew that they could use racism to their advantage. Why do you think they didn’t live amoung blacks? Because they knew that racist white were too busy hating their fellow Americans who are black to pay any attention to them.

  43. 4acause Says:

I am so happy that this black man is running for the President of these United States, however I am still not proud of America, I curse that my ancesters were sent to this country, I am not proud and I am not a patriot of this country at this time in my life. I know racism and this country shows the rest of the world how to be racist, but I am here and my kids have made a life for themselves and I am happyfor that, I am also happy that this man is {black man}going to be the next president of these United Of America is bringing out all the grandson and granddaughters of the racist so called good American people who have so much hate and stupidity in their hearts, it is just the way it is, I am sorry if I offend broad minded people, but for the most part it is what it is. I am esoteric in my beliefs, but I do belieive that good will prevail this time but I do hope that they will give me my passport so that I can leave this country.

  44. neopro Says:

it’s a well known fact that while not all republicans are racist, all racists are republican

    DRxJ Says:

If you think these shirts had to go away, then all must as well…1st ammendment is not selective.

As much as I hate to admit it…although, I agree with the above argument, it does not apply. The difference here is that I didn’t read anyone suggest that these shirts are illegal and the company shouldn’t be allowed to sell them. We TP is doing is notifying more people so that their outrage could reach the company and they can make (continue to make) better choices. Informing people about issues like this also serves to wake people up to the kinds of racism that still exists.

in response ti HILOJODI’s comment regarding McCain:

I think McCain had both his shoulders broken by the Viet Cong while a POW, might explain the stiffness and lack of physical ease.

    Regardless, Go Obama!
