Last week, former undersecretary of defense Doug Feith was scheduled to testify before a House Judiciary subcommittee, but he refused to appear at the last minute to avoid testifying alongside Colin Powell’s former chief of staff, Lawrence Wilkerson. At the hearing, chairman Jerrold Nadler (D-NY) said that Feith “would be compelled to testify later.” Today, Nadler announced that the subcommittee will consider a resolution tomorrow authorizing the issuance of a subpoena to compel Feith’s testimony.
Who gives a crap? Another dog and pony show by the do nothing, impotent Democrats. Bravo!
June 23rd, 2008 at 5:17 pmI must be insane. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result.
We’ve seen this dance so many times:
Step 1: Subpoena
Step 2: Executive Privilege
Step 3: Sternly worded letter
Yet I’m always hopeful…
June 23rd, 2008 at 5:18 pm#1, I agree wholeheartedly, Arrest his ar$e the next time he`s on John Stewart and have the Sargent of Arms do it…..
June 23rd, 2008 at 5:21 pmIt’s time for HJC to invoke inherit contempt on Feith, Rove, Bag Lady Miers, Bolten, and the rest of the Sith Administration clan who use the executive privilege card. If McClellan [an ex-WH official] can testify under oath by invitation not subpoena, then it should be no problem for the HJC to arrest these nimrods for disobeying the subpoena.
June 23rd, 2008 at 5:23 pmNadler sez “I am thinking about considering and wondering if this might be the right thing to do someday, maybe“
June 23rd, 2008 at 5:25 pmFeith’s a recidivist liar. All he’ll do before the committee is mention ad nauseum the title of his new book.
June 23rd, 2008 at 5:25 pmWill leg-chains, handcuffs and an orange jumpsuit be optional for his appearance?

You’re so right. The tactics of HJC is same ol’ same ol’.
June 23rd, 2008 at 5:27 pmFrom this congress and this so-called justice dept. we will not see anything resembling justice.
At this point the entire bush administration is indictable. The Hague should be getting some cells ready.

That is exactly how bad they all sound. They spend so much time considering and wondering no wonder absolutely nothing ever gets accomplished. I get it, they couldn’t make it in the private sector because no one would tolerate their mediocre performance.
June 23rd, 2008 at 5:40 pmI forgot to add: Dammit Nadler, get off your ass and do the job that WE elected you to do, that WE entrusted you to do, that you are expected to do.

hopefully this time and resource wasting “committee” will be replaced soon…
Finally, something we can agree upon! I too, am hopeful they put loyal, patriotic congresscritters who understand the criminality of the Bush administration on the committee. The litmus test for such an assignment should be the simple question: Has the Bush administration conducted itself according to the Constitution and the laws of the land?
If the answer is no, then they are on the committee. If the answer is yes, we shoot them.
June 23rd, 2008 at 5:44 pmrogerse Says:

Absolutely right. They should be replaced with a committee that has a spine and will send federal marshalls around to drag the Bushies in by the nape of the neck.
June 23rd, 2008 at 5:45 pmthey should have such feith.

June 23rd, 2008 at 5:49 pmYou are so right. I, too, continue to be hopeful that something will soon come to fruition with the HJC and the SJC, but all we get are defiant witnesses, protected by Bush&Co, who don’t answer anything if they do appear anyway.
These guys are ciminals! Why is it so hard to see and prosecute?
Are they all awaiting Obama’s administration to do everything?
“Bush administration conducted itself according to the Constitution” You’re thinking of the old constitution. Congress is changing that so that we can be in step with modern times “Given the grave threats that we face…”
The democrats should just pass a law mandating the executive branch to block all oversight. Then they would look stronger. We’re making them follow the new law to ignore us. It’s much like when Bart Simpson demonstrated how obedient his dog was by commanding him to sniff that other dog’s butt.

History will be very, very harsh to the current occupiers of the US Capital. Everyone knew W was an idiot and a fake image they could mold to attract the bible belters and the fundies. They were, of course, wrong – but no matter.
June 23rd, 2008 at 6:20 pmIf they’d just arrest one of these guys….just one, it would send shockwaves through the sedentary DC community that would bring about an attitude adjustment of enormous proportions.
The flock would scatter and the isolated members would be easy pickin’s. They would be demanding to testify to rat each other out to save their own sorry asses.
Just one.
June 23rd, 2008 at 6:32 pmHow many of these sick phuck traitors have refused to do their patriotic duty and tell the truth to the congress and the American people? I am sick of this sh*t. I want to see the whole bunch frog marched off to a black site, never to be heard from again.
June 23rd, 2008 at 6:36 pmWhy subpoena him? You’re just going to make him look like the stupidest MF’er on the planet.
June 23rd, 2008 at 6:48 pmI guess Feith felt uncomfortable appearing with Wilkerson, who in 2005 said of him, “seldom in my life have I met a dumber man.”
June 23rd, 2008 at 7:37 pm>hopefully this time and resource wasting “committee”
rodger dodger, name one congressional investestigation in the past 20 years you dont consider wasteful?
you think 23 billion dollars worth of fraud in iraq is wasteful?
June 23rd, 2008 at 7:47 pmSubpoena? Pish posh! Subpoenas are for people without friends in the Justice Department.
June 23rd, 2008 at 7:51 pmPullllease…stop with the bullshit already…He’ll say no…Congress will say OK.

They are going to use inherent contempt on Rove when he doesn’t show up… conyers has been hinting that rove just try to avoid it…
at least they’ll try and probably not get enough votes to pass it… or they will push off the decision on inherent contempt until they have kissed Bush’s ass the required amount….
do you believe that it is almost impossible to imagine the Congress doing its sworn oath to preserve and protect the constitution… what a crap hole… the major media wont cover it and congress wont act….. welcome to democracy avoided..
June 23rd, 2008 at 9:18 pmI feel your desperation dixie blood. But? There are strengths inherent in our system and the American public seems to be waking up. Despair is as big an enemy as the criminals in charge.
Here’s what I do. Every so often I take a day off from political blogs/news and drink good, imported, beer. Sometimes the world looks less grim.

see…even these guys know theres no way they could posisbly justify letting bush cronies off the hook, so they are trying to punt..
June 23rd, 2008 at 10:34 pmIt’s sort of like Charlie Brown and the football…..an after a long wait the same baloney goes down……until congress is willing to say …..”we’ll trade you…..we want Rove, and we want Libby and we want a few more clowns….and then and only then will you get any legislation like for $$$ or FISA or for anything that the WH wants. No witnesses No money.
