McCain adviser: Another attack on the U.S. ‘would be a big advantage’ for McCain.

Earlier this year, after former Pakistani prime minister Benazir Bhutto was tragically assassinated, pundits speculated that the shocking attack may have benefited Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) politically. Now, McCain’s chief strategist, Charlie Black, tells Fortune that the “unfortunate event” of Bhutto’s death “helped us.” Asked if another terrorist attack on U.S. soil would help McCain as well, Black told Fortune that it would be “a big advantage to him“:

The assassination of Benazir Bhutto in December was an “unfortunate event,” says Black. “But his knowledge and ability to talk about it reemphasized that this is the guy who’s ready to be Commander-in-Chief. And it helped us.” As would, Black concedes with startling candor after we raise the issue, another terrorist attack on U.S. soil. “Certainly it would be a big advantage to him,” says Black.

Update Kevin Drum also points out that when asked about the "gravest long-term threat to the U.S. economy," McCain replied, "Islamic extremism."

and so…when are the Republicans arranging another one?

So, the McChurian candidate wants another 9/11?

    How American of you, McShame.

Charlie Black; another high paid lobbyist who’s mission is to perpetuate corporate welfare on an unimagined scale for all eternity.

Nice work, if you have no conscience.

That’s right because dead people don’t matter, Republican control of government is all that matters. After all, how will they cover up all their crimes if they’re out of control. Oh, and thanks Nancy Pelosi.

Wouldn’t be the first time a Republican had profited off the misfortune of ordinary Americans.

Yeah, another attack would really burnish the record of those “protect America” conservatives with which McSame aligns himself, right?

  8. Zimzone says:

I think bombing Iran will be their next 9/11.

They will time it to give the McChurian candidate a boost, while blaming Obama for being ‘against the global war on terror’.

  9. ralph the wonder llama says:

Sounds to me as if Charlie Black is hoping for another attack on Americans.

  10. DRxJ says:

Okay, someone has got to explain this logic to me.
If the worst terrorist attack happened during a Republican administration, and if another horrible terrorist attack happens during the same Republican tenure, then this benefits a new Republican administration, how exactly?

    Ohhhh, that’s right.
    BOO!

And I’m also sure that McCain would do NOTHING to stop such an attack because he (falsely) believes it would guarantee his win.

    PEACE

Another attack on the U.S. ‘would be a big advantage’ for McCain.

    – - So….the BIGGER the attack, the better? What if the attack doesn’t come in a physical form, but is a cyber attack or biological? Does this help McCain even more? Black needs to do some polling research.

    R.I.P., George Carlin.

  15. Bobwurst says:

This is their “tax break Logic” if an attack happens it’s good because republicans are tough on terror-if it doesn’t happen it’s good because republicans have scared away the smelly brown people.

  16. misshusseinmolly says:

Of course another terrorist attack on American soil would benefit McCain, just as 9/11 was the greatest early Christmas present Bush and Cheney ever got.

The only problem McCain would have with it is that it would end the current GOP talking point that since Bush engaged us in “the War On Terror”, we have been safe from terrorist attacks.

Private celebrations. War is good for their ratings…

  21. margerine says:

I guess my question is why?

We were all here when the first attack happened. We were all hear when all of these decisions were made. Most of us are aware of who made them or, at the very least, most of us blame the President who everyone is aware is a Republican.

The day of people wanting to run to a Republican leader in times of military action is almost completely out the door now. They’ve managed to completely ruin that concept for themselves for what is clearly a majority of the American people.

The simple idea that McCain would win out because of that and his more “hardlined” approach seems pretty ludicrous now. I’m also just taken aback by how candidly some of these people speak of these attacks as if they’re just political tools.

  22. unbelievable says:

Oh, hold on, were talking about smart people who seem to be in diminishing numbers these days.

This talking point gets no traction with the American public. The fact that there has not been another attack on U.S. soil is “luck”. No way it is due to anything Bush has done – impossible.

Or, as some have suggested, it is because we haven’t launched another attack on ourselves.

  34. scytherius says:

We all know that republicans aren’t human. They love dead bodies, blood, etc. as long as it keeps them in power.

However, it would no longer be an advantage for Republicans. Polls make it clear this is no longer their strong suit. And with the country knowing they have screwed up everything else this would just be another in a long line of Republican monumental screw ups.

And the reason we haven’t ha another attack on American soil . . . ? Two reasons primarily. Terrorists groups are simply not well organized and not overly bright. Doesn’t mean they can’t do a lot of damage, it just means that coordination is, and has been, overly difficult for them. A standard fact.

The second reason. There is no need to. All that needs be done is to sit back and watch the U.S. destroy itself with the shredding of the constitution and civil war.

But to even suggest that the Keystone Republicans have made us safer is akin to arguing the moon is made of cheese. Terrorism has been around for well BEFORE 9/11 with few attacks in the U.S. It wasn’t U.S. genius that has stopped it. it is for the reasons above.

And finally, let’s not forget that 9/11 occurred WITH the Repugs in charge. They were warned and did nothing.

  35. Max-1 says:

Ooooo… and another talking point shot down.

On the matter of whom they trust on these issues, the Democrats are more trusted on the economy buy 48% to 36% and are in a virtual tie with the Republicans on national security, an issue that the Republicans usually win out on, with the Democrats at 44% and the Republicans at 43%.

The War in Iraq is viewed at very important by 62% of the voters and the Democrats are more trusted by 49% to 38%.

Since Bush probably ordered the hit on the WTC and Pentagon, I won’t waste time discussing these places (remember the neocons problem? They needed another ‘Pearl Harbor Moment’ to push their agenda on a frightened public).

The lack of another attack is a specious arguement because we have been attacked since we invaded their soverign territory. Over 4000 of our brave soldiers have been attacked and they are being attacked everyday. OBL’s fighters are getting better trained, better skilled, and killing more of our brave citizens than if they attempted to hit our mainland. Anytime one of our less than patriotic posters mention ‘no attack’, please ask them to recite the number of dead and wounded Americans since we illegally invaded Iraq and Afghanistan.

Actually, a very serious question. There are many theories. In no particular order:

    1. Cheney hasn’t ordered another one because 9/11 fit the bill. Absurd, but many believe it.

    2. AQ has actually been damaged by aggressive US military action in Afghanistan and Black Ops in Waziristan. BTW, you can tell a lot about your place on the political spectrum by which of #’s 1 or 2 you find more outlandish.

    3. AQ is patient and is looking for a home run as opposed to a set of singles. Ergo, only a WMD style attack will satisfy them, so they are taking their time, running silent, running deep. Frighteningly, this option has lots of logic behind it.

    4. AQ realizes 9/11 was the biggest mistake they ever made and the high command is ordering no new attacks because they don’t like living in caves full time.

The truth is, it would be pretty damn simple to launch all kinds of attacks in the US, and yet they haven’t. Remember the DC sniper a few years back? That was two loser psychos in a modified sedan. Give me 50 two man teams so equipped and you could shut this country down. But they don’t do it. Why?

Face it, by invading Iraq, Bush & Co. used our own soldiers as lambs for pure greed. Simply Dick(head) Cheney ; nor did I specifically state that he was indeed behind 9/11.

I’m merely pointing out Kelt Boy’s continued ignorance and stupidity and (typically) false statements ; he wants to question conspiracy theorists and view them with a certain disdain , that he doesn’t even possess for the worst president and administration in US history , that he himself at one time backed blindly , stupidly and without question.

Not at all, because the corollary is that the very presence of US troops in Muslim/Arab lands increases the production of killers. And simply feeding them cannon fodder is not only unfair to our military personnel, but is destroying combat readiness.

I would hardly call the Army and Marines cannon fodder.

There is no doubt our troops have become Jihadi magnets. It is a legitimate question to ask what those Jihadis would be doing were our troops not there. No doubt we have radicalized some…I think it is also true we have killed many that were already radical and would have instead been looking to attack us here. Sadly, it is totally unknowable which it is for sure or to what degree.

Two huge airplanes were loaded with jet fuel for cross-country flights. That fuel…after those jets crashed into the towers…burned at the main structural supports located in the middle of both of the towers. The crash itself weakened the entire structure of both buildings by a significant margin, the added weight of hundreds of thousands of lbs. and the jet fuel basically melting the supports led to the collapse because of some things called gravity and physics.

I know for someone like you, the logical and most scientific answers don’t resonate because you want to believe that Bush is Dr. Doom, Cheney is Darkseid and reality needs to be convoluted beyond every reason for it to be true. Bring us more than one guy who “claims” that he saw the bottom of the tower he came out of explode, who could have very well convinced himself he saw that after the fact and disprove all scientific reason. If you think that the towers weren’t a ticking clock after the equivalent of two flying wrecking balls went into them, you and those who think like you need to be slapped around more by the likes of Bill Maher about your flippin’ retarded beliefs.

Kira and all the other conspiracy ideologues

Have you ever heard of Newton’s Laws of Motion? Or are those a bit to dull for you and your ilk’s need for a romantic and convoluted conspiracy where you and your kind need a dynamic plot to stoke the flames of your paranoia? It’s sad that science tells you all you need to know about how the towers fell, but you can’t accept that because you try to tie a few random, unanswered questions and what people under extreme stress in the situation say they saw, but have no proof to back it up. Nevermind that those unanswered questions and people are binded together to become the heralds of a grand, evil and outrageous conspiracy that threatens the world, that only can be spread through the internet and “dubious” sources, i.e. already known conspiracy, UFO and other like minded individuals who thrive on public access channels throughout the nation.

Just get over this notion that you and your other “conspiracy” friends are championing some great cause. You are all just like people in a small community who get caught up in a high profile murder trial: You’re trying to tie yourselves and your lives to this event because your lives were relatively meaningless before and will be well after as well. But with this you think you know more than everyone else and have married yourself to this cause, because how can you be wrong when you link your propaganda to other videos and search queries that have nothing to do with this subject on YouTube and other sites? You loons deserve to be bashed because your thought processes want a harlequin romance with a superhero comic book veneer to match your obsession with the grassy knoll, Loch Ness and Bigfoot.

Why listen to science, math and engineering professors when you can go trolling for like-minded individuals who think the Army Corps of Engineers, disguised as office workers and janitors, checked every fiber of their being at the door for two weeks to lay explosives all around the WTC? Yeah, it wasn’t like we were attacked before at the WTC. Maybe that was just a SEAL team who f’ed up, right?! Our enemies sure haven’t wanted to destroy the economic symbols of the west, because it is the world economy which is considered to be a harbinger of death for the Muslim world for these terrorist groups.

    Kira Says:

    sectionop92 #115

First of all, you do understand you, yourself, are a conspiracy theorist, don’t you?

No, I believe in reality and science. You and your lemmings believe that some form of our government has turned into Cobra. You jump at shadows created by delusions of what you think is there, because you can’t deal with the simple reality of the answers.

As for your long diatribe, you have provided nothing that proves or disproves anything.

Damn science! Damn professors who don’t support your lunatic musings! That’s the problem with your type…a professional can walk you through all the answers, but as long as they aren’t the answers your group covets, they aren’t acceptable and are a part of the lie. Which makes it all a part of the conspiracy. You and your like-minded buddies will be at this for the next 20 years with the same non-answers, because your idea of reality is non-conformist and illogical.

There is no way 3 buildings would fall exactly into their own footprints the way the WTC buildings did — otherwise why would we ever need demolition companies again?

Yeah, they just didn’t topple from the top on down and pile on a huge complex, with those complexes having massive underground parking and other such things that created a crater. With all the media on the scene, broadcasting LIVE, don’t you think explosions at the base would have been seen? Especially when there’s a documentary that shows firefighters on the ground floor of one of the buildings when one of the towers collapses?

Do you also know what it takes to demolish just a large, empty building, stadium? To cause am implosion, the demolition teams need to put the explosives on the exposed struts and supports themselves all around the building. And even then, they have to have supreme knowledge in mathematics to know how to bring the given structure down with the right effect. The big problem with your people’s “theories” is that you suppose the jets were cruise missiles and that was the key to all of it. If anything, that would screw up a demolition instead of helping it. Explosives can be very sensitive, so having big jets ram themselves into two buildings could have very well set off a premature detonation since the best way to achieve it is to put the explosives directly on the supports. Plus demolitions takes a huge amount of explosives to begin with, so it isn’t like a team could take control of a small area of any of the towers and bring them down at the base. So you and your buds might want to rethink that. Since the WTC was under mass evacuation, how would your “experts” keep the explosives from being noticed? It’s not like explosives don’t make a sound, unless those flashes and bangs I see in all demolitions are just a fantasy of mine. When you get down to it, your groups “argument” has plenty of holes that can’t be dismissed unless you think this is the closest to a “flawless” argument that your “conspiracy” can get.

I pointed you to a link put together by Architects and Engineers. You really should take a look.

I don’t look at slanted, B.S. non-sense by skewed individuals…I’ve seen enough of your groups crap on YouTube already. I do however welcome the day you get some help from a medical professional, where you come down off your “my conspiracy is better than your science and facts” cross.
