Justice Department report shows overwhelming Federalist Society bias.»

As ThinkProgress has noted, the Bush administration has extremely close ties to the Federalist Society. Political appointees in the Justice Department, such as Monica Goodling, assessed U.S. attorneys partly based on whether they were members of the right-wing group. In its new report, the DOJ Inspector General reveals that the Department’s internship and Honors programs were also heavily pro-Federalist Society:

In the Honors program, all seven applicants who indicated that they were American Constitution Society (ACS) members weren’t selected for interviews, while 27 of the 29 Federalist Society applicants were selected. In the Summer Law Internship Program (SLIP), 12 of the 13 applicants who were ACS members weren’t selected for interviews, while all Federalist Society applicants were approved.

UpdateIt wasn't just ACS. WSJ Law blog notes, "Membership in liberal organizations like the American Constitution Society, Greenpeace, or the Poverty and Race Research Action Council were also seen as negative marks."

And now the entire American population , outside of the retarded 19 %’ers , recognizes the GOP as negative skid marks…..

In a future Congress, in a land far, far away: Are you now, or have you ever been a member of the Federalist Society?

Makes me sad there are 2 Americas. And the states are not united.

I can understand why Bushco might have been wary of anyone associated with a group called “American Constitution Society” — they were probably afraid that such a person might regard the U.S. Constitution as more than a “g*d-d*mned piece of paper.”

Can’t be too careful, you know.

Don’t worry your fu(ked up little head about grown up stuff. Do what it is you do best: look at all the cool pictures in your Dad’s National Geographic magazines - that should keep you busy all summer.

Really, what a dumb thing to think about. You don’t like America or democracy, so what do you care what happen when we take back this country?

    How is that relevant ?

It should be compared to an equal , the shitty Ronnie Retard administration , not to its superior……………

  11. Guido the Loving OBGYN Says:

Here’s a good one, from their wiki:

The Society “is founded on the principles that the state exists to preserve freedom, that the separation of governmental powers is central to our Constitution, and that it is emphatically the province and duty of the judiciary to say what the law is, not what it should be.”

And Bush (of course) was the first President ever to ignore the ABA for recommendations for judicial appointments.

I’ve tried to make sense of The Federalist Society. And there is no making sense of them. At a glance they are guilty of not supporting their own ideas. They believe in freedom, but not privacy. They believe in seperation of powers, but think the executive should have more power than the congress. They think judges should interpret the letter of the law, but they support torture.

So there you have it. Unsustainable ideas at work there.

None hopefully. It’s not about balance, picking equal numbers of wingnuts from both sides. It’s about respect for the Constitution and the rule of law, neither of which are a apart of the Federalist Society. Antonin Scalia is proof of that.

Separation of powers apparently doesn’t mean they’re co-equal. To these bozos, it means “We run the executive branch and you, you’re over there. Separate. Just keep quiet until there’s something we need from you.”

    Hell no

What better way to break up a long hard day of interviewing serious candidates than to bring in unqualified clowns to provide some entertainment………..?

  18. Patty Says:

Remember when Tony Snow — followed by Dana Perino — whined about all the time Congress was wasting in Oversight Hearings?

Smug, I know, but I can’t stop smiling at the fact that the truth they so desperately wanted to remain hidden is seeing the light of day.

However many oversight hearings it takes to get to the bottom of this vast wasteland, it is necessary in order to rebuild our house on solid, Constitution-driven support.

  19. JMOHR Says:

The wing nuts fail to see the difference between how the King George has handled the appointment of career staff and intern programs. These were always handled by career staff with the very final choices being made by the political appointees. This was true under both previous Republican and Democratic administrations. So those who seem to have such little intellectual horsepower or knowledge of the past will provide truly ignorant observations such as:

    barackocarter Says:

How many Federalist Society members do you think Barack O’Carter’s administration would select for interviews?

You see, under any other presidency, the administration would not be picking the candidates for interview. They would be screened by career DoJ attorneys without partisan testing in the same manner that they had been chosen by previous Republican and Democratic administrations who showed some respect for the rule of law. Indeed, King George has attempted to over throw the rule of law in this country. He has shown the same respect for the will of the people as did Stalin, Hitler and Saddam Hussein. We already know that King George is a war criminal for his approval of torture.

Yes, it will require a de-Bushation of the civil service just as Baathist and Nazi scum had to be cleared out of other fascist, criminal governments.

  20. shoeless Says:

The Federalists used the Alien and Sedition Act of 1798 to close down dozens of newspapers and imprisoned 18 editors, including the grandson of Benjamin Franklin for criticizing president John Adams. The horrified public made John Adams a one term president, kicked the rest of these right-wing totalitarians out of office over the next few years, and the disgraced Federalist Party (the equivalent of modern day Republicans) ceased to exist.

It’s amazing to me that the totalitarian Federalist Society has survived in virtual secrecy all these years, and is now wielding power from the shadows with help from the fascist Republicans.

  26. wizard2000 Says:

I didn’t know the Justice Department had become the Heritage Foundation.

Well, you see, in 2003 shortly after Bush started his little war in Iraq, and after Gen. Jay Garner was fired, the Heritage Foundation website started accepting applications from young and eager Republicans who wanted to join the Bush adventure in Mesopotamia by working at Bremer’s Coalition Provisional Authority (CPA). (And no doubt other right-wing think tank websites did the same, recruiting young and eager Republicans to work in the Green Zone in Baghdad).

Unfortunately, just like what happened at the Justice Department, some of these young and eager Republicans had surpassed their Peter Principle level, and were wholly unqualified to work in the Green Zone, like the young and eager Republican with no banking experience who was put in charge of reforming the Iraqi banking system.

Geez, I could have done that. Oh, right, I’m a liberal, progressive Democrat who has no place in a Fascist Republican-Ruled America, so my application would have never been accepted at the Heritage Foundation or at the corrupt Bush Justice Department.
