Imus on the defense: I was making ‘a sarcastic point.’
On his radio show this morning, Don Imus continued to defend himself over racially-charged comments he made on his show yesterday about Dallas Cowboys cornerback Adam “Pacman” Jones. Imus claimed he was trying to make “a sarcastic point” that the police are “picking on” Jones. Watch it:
Asked about Imus’s initial comments yesterday, Jones told reporters that he is “truly upset” and that he hopes “the station he works for handles it accordingly.” “I will pray for him,” said Jones.

June 24th, 2008 at 10:05 amI’m gonna side with Imus on this one. He would be the biggest idiot if he first asked what race the guy was and then put his foot in his mouth. I really think that in his head he was pointing out that the reason some athletes get in trouble with the police is because they ARE Black.
It just didn’t come out that way, but he probably felt most folks would understand his meaning. However, after the Rutgers’ episode, maybe he should’ve followed up on it.

I’ll buy that there are statistics that back up the idea that black men are treated less fairly by our justice system than whites are.
However, your assertion that it’s “statistically true” that black men are criminals is pure BS. Even your DOJ figures of sentenced prisoners yesterday showed that over 95% of black males are NOT sentenced prisoners.
And then you have a problem when asserting both points are true — the logical conclusion that black men are arrested unfairly, but they’re criminals anyway. WTF??

If there’s a pressure to post something, anything, whilst working on more substantial posts, why not dig up some political satire or something engaging pasted from some other blog–a quick and dirty “guest-spot” as it were, until you are ready to publish the important stuff?

You can cite all the statics you want, sure there are more black males in jail than there are in college, does that mean that black people are criminals? No, when you are looking at crime stastics what you really should be asking yourself is how many of these people were raised in utter poverty. Skin color cannot be changed and shouldn’t be, but poverty and education can. Show me the statistics on how many sons of black Yale graduates are in prison and lets compare that to the percentage of white kids that were raised in poverty that ended up in jail. Then lets see how valid any correlation between race and crime is. Poverty and desperation and greed are what drives people to become criminals, not race.
