On his radio show this morning, Don Imus continued to defend himself over racially-charged comments he made on his show yesterday about Dallas Cowboys cornerback Adam “Pacman” Jones. Imus claimed he was trying to make “a sarcastic point” that the police are “picking on” Jones. Watch it:
Asked about Imus’s initial comments yesterday, Jones told reporters that he is “truly upset” and that he hopes “the station he works for handles it accordingly.” “I will pray for him,” said Jones.
There is nothing “progressive” about Imus.
June 24th, 2008 at 9:55 amThank you Thinkprogress, for bringing us another “knappy headed toe” story to keep us focused on the important things, on the week congress is about to shred the constitution via that awful “protect at+t” bill
June 24th, 2008 at 10:05 amI’m gonna side with Imus on this one. He would be the biggest idiot if he first asked what race the guy was and then put his foot in his mouth. I really think that in his head he was pointing out that the reason some athletes get in trouble with the police is because they ARE Black.
It just didn’t come out that way, but he probably felt most folks would understand his meaning. However, after the Rutgers’ episode, maybe he should’ve followed up on it.
June 24th, 2008 at 10:08 amAmen Chocolate Jesus!
Could we maybe get off the tabloid garbage and on to more substantitive stuff? Our government is failing us, both parties, and Imus is the target of derision?
June 24th, 2008 at 10:11 amI agree with CJ…Why waste time and space over yet another miserable talk show host that uses this crap to try and increase his ratings…Blessings
June 24th, 2008 at 10:12 amBlowhards like Imus continually say unforgivable things, then claim they were “misunderstood” or their words were “taken out of context”.
When someone constantly mis-speaks, he has to be held responsible for his nasty words.
#2 is right. There is nothing “progressive” about Imus.

June 24th, 2008 at 10:23 amLet’s move on!
June 24th, 2008 at 10:23 amAfter listening carefully to the original audio, after hearing Imus’ explanation, I’m inclined to buy his story. Chalk this up to good intention but poor delivery. Perhaps Imus would have been better off if he had just moved on to something less volatile.

It may have been worse if the implication of his statement wasn’t technically correct.
____________________________________
Which implication would that be? The implication that blacks are treated less fairly by our legal system than whites? Or the implication that black men are criminals?
June 24th, 2008 at 10:26 amAre there people who listen to Imus’ show?
June 24th, 2008 at 10:28 amYeah….that would explain the nappy headed basketball players remark too wouldn’t it. Face it he’s a racist who can’t keep his mouth shut and it is criminal to keep him on the air. It feeds hatred which leads to violence…it used to be illegal and should be.
June 24th, 2008 at 10:32 amdbadass Says:
Are there people who listen to Imus’ show?
Well, the 23%ers are shrinking in numbers, but, like Faux, they still have their hard core racists and bigots who like this kind of stuff. Also, savage weiner, Ingraham, the beckster, the rusher, etc. They all serve that same demographics.
June 24th, 2008 at 10:36 amlet me make this thread slightly germane by going completely off topic:
bush appointee judge suggests congress take matters into its own hands and use inherent contempt on bush aides..

June 24th, 2008 at 10:39 amAbsolutly right Annie, the right wants to project their bad behavior onto us. barackocarter wants us to believe for instance that facism is a liberal downfall when we all know that it is extreme right….
They want to say that a social safety net like welfare is a liberals way of keeping black people poor…guess they would be better off if we just let them die. That’s exactly what they propose.
June 24th, 2008 at 10:39 amDick Gregory was to be on the Imus’ show today. What was his opinion of the “Pac Man” statement?
June 24th, 2008 at 10:43 amChocolate Jesus Says:
bush appointee judge suggests congress take matters into its own hands and use inherent contempt on bush aides..
Read that yesterday.
June 24th, 2008 at 10:44 amBasically the judges reaction was:
WTF are you bothering me with this? You (Congress) have the power to arrest them, duh.
Time for Eeenus to put that hair in a pony tail and get an earring.
June 24th, 2008 at 10:47 amBoy oh boy…..what a contratdiction. Does rog even realize how ignorant he is?
He admits blacks are unduly arrested because of thier race and yet he still wants to classify them as criminal…just because they have been arrested.
June 24th, 2008 at 10:49 amFred, roger may be ignorant, but he’s also to cowardly to own his true beliefs. He can’t admit out loud that he thinks African Americans are inherently criminal so he hides behind statistics.
June 24th, 2008 at 10:52 amHey Daryll:
June 24th, 2008 at 10:52 amWhat is up? Hope you/yours have been /are well. I sort of suggest you try to stick with the zany religious schtick as no one is gonna like racist Daryll. Does your zany church have a dark skin to light skin conversion program like that made up homo/hetero deal?
Number 24 is flagged. If you feel you must respond to it, please don’t cut and paste its original post in your response, if you do, then when post 24 is deleted it will live on in your post.
June 24th, 2008 at 10:54 amdaryll is in the house…..I’m gone. Can’t deal with this piece of shit.
June 24th, 2008 at 10:54 amIgnore it Fred, if you leave, then the terrorists win.
June 24th, 2008 at 10:55 amFred:
June 24th, 2008 at 10:59 amI will admit it is a little obtuse but if you enjoyed the absurdity of Andy Kaufman than you can begin to grasp the pure genius that is Daryll. Remember first that it isn’t real.
Daryll when is your dumb ass god and church gonna start to reach out to these criminals. Can’t you fix em up the way you did those whores?
June 24th, 2008 at 11:01 am“We don’t recognize skin color. But most individuals committing crimes are of this type of skin tone (I refuse to use the term black because it is degrading”
The possibilities here are utterly limitless. Thanks Daryll. It won’t be as much fun as “shaking the devil off” but still I am sure are learned colleagues will enjoy this gibberish

June 24th, 2008 at 10:39 am
both are statistically true…
____________________________________
I’ll buy that there are statistics that back up the idea that black men are treated less fairly by our justice system than whites are.
However, your assertion that it’s “statistically true” that black men are criminals is pure BS. Even your DOJ figures of sentenced prisoners yesterday showed that over 95% of black males are NOT sentenced prisoners.
And then you have a problem when asserting both points are true — the logical conclusion that black men are arrested unfairly, but they’re criminals anyway. WTF??
June 24th, 2008 at 11:07 amIt’s obvious that Drywall is a hateful faux Christian. the conservative movement is full of those creatures. When drywall dies, he’s going to hell.
June 24th, 2008 at 11:08 amYeah, Imus is dried-out low-hanging fruit.
We don’t need to get outraged over “yet another example” of crassness and stupidity from radio hosts.
We don’t need to be informed of every single instance that illustrates the permissiveness of appallingly low standards of social and political discourse in our media that still somehow garner great financial rewards for those involved.
We KNOW all that now.
If there’s a pressure to post something, anything, whilst working on more substantial posts, why not dig up some political satire or something engaging pasted from some other blog–a quick and dirty “guest-spot” as it were, until you are ready to publish the important stuff?
I’m sending this off direct to TP as well.
If such posts a
June 24th, 2008 at 11:11 amBy encouraging “the show” that darll brings you empower him to disrupt every thread he comes on…..if you want to play….go ahead but I’m not interested.
June 24th, 2008 at 11:12 am“Sarcastic point”…?
OK. And *I’m* Miss America.
June 24th, 2008 at 11:15 amPointing out the absurdity hardly empowers. It undermines by removing any pretext of rationality.
June 24th, 2008 at 11:17 amhe successfully derails the threads every time.
June 24th, 2008 at 11:22 amDaryll Says: I love Imus, but if he was defending the arcade man then he is wrong. This football player is a typical dark toned individual, who refuses act like a civilized human being. And they wonder why so many of them are in jail.
I thought you were black?
June 24th, 2008 at 11:27 amOnly if you believe he does. Just ignore him and post as you wish.
June 24th, 2008 at 11:29 amSee Daryll I don’t think you’re an idiot because of your skin color. I think you’d be a total moron if you were lily white. I suspect your mother fed you lead paint chips as a child trying to off your annoying self. Maybe she dropped you on your head, who knows. Buy you’re a perfect example of why some species eat their young. You know, the ones that are so “off” that the species would be better off without their survival. But hey, at least you’re not contributing any of your stupid to the gene pool.
June 24th, 2008 at 11:31 amTo quote a notorious performance artist:
Judge not!
June 24th, 2008 at 11:32 amFred, that’s because there’s nobody more fun to insult than Daryll.
June 24th, 2008 at 11:32 amI guess TP felt they should post this today since they posted the Imus thread yesterday but at least it’s a good place for Daryll to muck up a thread.
June 24th, 2008 at 11:34 am“Considered” by whom?
Is that one of your “facts”?
June 24th, 2008 at 11:34 amAgain, same rules apply. They’ll boot him if enough advertisers pull out w/o timely replacements. You won’t nab him solely on insensitivity, if that was his true intent in this case. I hope TP doesn’t plan to make this into a marathon, because there’s still a constitution to defend and gas prices to deal with.
June 24th, 2008 at 11:37 amThis is priceless. From the guy who quotes the fables of the Old Testament and believes in their literal translations. Oh the irony.
June 24th, 2008 at 11:37 amImus is great on the radio. He points out how the elderly can sometimes lose the ability for rational thought that they once had. It doesn’t happen to all senior just the ones like Imus and John McCain.
June 24th, 2008 at 11:39 amWe all love to talk about race. Really gets that blood flowing. You can cite all the statics you want, sure there are more black males in jail than there are in college, does that mean that black people are criminals? No, when you are looking at crime stastics what you really should be asking yourself is how many of these people were raised in utter poverty. Skin color cannot be changed and shouldn’t be, but poverty and education can. Show me the statistics on how many sons of black Yale graduates are in prison and lets compare that to the percentage of white kids that were raised in poverty that ended up in jail. Then lets see how valid any correlation between race and crime is. Poverty and desperation and greed are what drives people to become criminals, not race.
June 24th, 2008 at 11:39 amI’m cool db……bigger fish to fry, etc. daryll hussain is a gnat
June 24th, 2008 at 11:39 amyo daryll,
just wondering….do you have any black friends?
June 24th, 2008 at 12:17 pmWe have to keep these folks honest, and Don Imus should be NO exception.
Maybe, he was being “sarcastic”, but he either continues to try to re-write the history of his “nappy hos” comment in order to escape further guilt, or he is a closet RACIST who continues to be INFATUATED with a person’s skin color! OsiSpeaks[dot]com
June 24th, 2008 at 4:33 pm“Imus on the defense: I was making ‘a sarcastic point.’”
We know it was sarcastic. And racist.
