National Intelligence Council (NIC) chairman Thomas Fingar today told Congress that global warming is expected to “aggravate existing problems such as poverty, social tensions, environmental degradation, ineffectual leadership and weak political institutions” around the world, which “could increase the pool of potential recruits into terrorist activity.” Fingar’s remarks were based on a new NIC report on the topic, which conservative House members blasted as “a waste of time.”

All the more reason to remove Bush and company ASAP and to deny any continuation of his insane policies to McDumbDumb.
June 25th, 2008 at 6:39 pmI think that even if you proved that global warming caused impotence, conservative House members would still parrot their petro-corpo masters talking points.
June 25th, 2008 at 6:41 pmThen global warming deniers are, in addition to being completely ignorant, terrorist supporting enablers and appeasers.
And the criminal Bush administration - through it’s efforts to censor information about climate change - are actively supporting and assisting in the growth of terrorism.
F***ing traitorous scumbags.
June 25th, 2008 at 6:42 pmOf course. After all, they’ve always got Viagra.
June 25th, 2008 at 6:48 pm…new NIC report on the topic, which conservative House members blasted as “a waste of time.”
It’s a waste of time for the Repukes — until they work out a way to use it to scare the pants off the sheeple.
June 25th, 2008 at 6:53 pmMore terriarism from the useless GW Botch admin…I am so NOT shocked…
June 25th, 2008 at 6:53 pmIf the conservative House members blasted this guy, he must be on to something.
June 25th, 2008 at 6:54 pmMaybe now the chickehawks and the freaks in the neocon movement will care about global warming. Or maybe not.

It’s a real problem for them. On one hand it’s all about scary dark people, but on the other . . . Al Gore!!!!
June 25th, 2008 at 6:59 pmWhy do these short sighted blighters hate their children, and their children>?
June 25th, 2008 at 7:04 pmGlobal warming will lead to famine in many countries, because the weather patterns are out of whack.
Hungry people usually revolt.
A lot of species will probably go extinct, because the climate is changing too fast for many species to adapt.
We may even be helping create our own extinction event. No comets or asteroids needed.

Can you say “Bangladesh”? Some huge percentage of that entirely overcrowded and hungry country is all of three feet above sea level and it’s FLAT.
June 25th, 2008 at 7:14 pmThe genocide in Rwanda followed years of climate change influence Drought, pitting hungry neighbors against each other.
All of SubSaharan Africa is running out of water, leading to turmoil in Somalia, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya,…..
June 25th, 2008 at 7:51 pmThe truly sad thing is that W is looking for Legacy and ‘historical relevance’. Unfortunately for him, and both his Republican and Democratic enablers, this will be their common legacy. Hopefully it’s not too late for the next Administration to Do Something. Even more hopefully we’ll have enough Democrats in Congress with real, working spines and maybe, just maybe, they’ll actually Do Something to save the world. In the meantime…
June 25th, 2008 at 8:32 pmImpeach Pelosi, Cheney and Bush and Save the Constitution!

These issues have long been known to increase violent, extremist behavior. So what does Bush do to counteract this? He starts wars and goes into denial about global warming. Good luck with that.

June 25th, 2008 at 10:10 pmI’d like to have a chit chat with John Kerry but he always runs off. Is John Kerry a pussy? I am not sure. I’ll let the rest be the judge.
June 25th, 2008 at 10:11 pmJohn Kerry, if you hate the earth so much then feel free to get off of it. we won’t miss you
June 25th, 2008 at 10:36 pmTHIS John Kerry troll is the poster child for why we need to teach critical thinking in the schools…
June 26th, 2008 at 12:08 amGlobal warming may not be a huge threat to us in our lives, but in the future it can be a potential catastrophe if
1) The Gulf Stream stops flowing north
2) The Amazon rain forest goes dry and releases the massive amount of carbon stored in it’s soil, which would have a devastating impact on the Earth
3) The reserves of methane frozen in the ocean suddenly release from their cages and into the atmosphere.
All three of these possibilities can seriously put strain on our civilization, if not, make us almost entirely instinct as a human species. And we can avoid this if we start cutting back emissions by 70% starting now. We won’t go back to the way things used to be, but we would have a chance of avoiding any of the above scenarios which have been demonstrated with computer software and a very likely threat to future generations if we don’t act quick.
Pseudo-conservatives must join us in the fight or their hands will be covered with blood! Actually, a lot of their hands are covered with blood with Iraq and all, but with global warming their will be covered with even more blood! Probably a swimming pool full of blood if any of the above catastrophes happen to our planet. It’s a real threat. Read the “Weather Makers”, it has all the detail.
June 26th, 2008 at 12:41 amGlobal warming could produce a double whammy.
Reportedly, scientists drilling in Antarctica ten years ago for ice core samples dating back to the last great Ice Age discovered something startling, something that didn’t fit computer models.
They discovered that just prior to the start of the last great Ice Age about 12,000 years ago, the earth’s atmosphere heated up, and that the time it took from the beginning of this temperature spike to the beginning of the last great Ice Age was only a short 30 years.
One of the theories advanced after this startling discovery was that the melting glaciers and arctic snow packs flooded the oceans with cold freshwater which not only diluted the saltwater oceans but also disrupted the ocean currents, causing for instance, the Atlantic Gulf Stream not to travel as far north as it does today, thus not transporting warmer tropical waters northward and cooler/colder waters southward as widely as before.
Thus, the initial global warming led to global cooling thirty years later, that caused the arctic regions to refreeze and actually glaciate much further south than previously, before the heat spike.
This is why I call it the global warming double whammy.
So, the world oil companies are cheering the disappearing of the polar ice cap, with all that open water appearing at the North Pole, just ripe for the drilling, but based on the scenario I just related, their cheering will be short-lived, just as they, and their children, probably will be.

REPORT:
Bush Expected to Increase Global Terrorism.
.
June 26th, 2008 at 1:49 amWizard2000, you mean we might see one of these in our backyards due to global warming?
Cool!
June 26th, 2008 at 1:49 amViral Opportunism from the Globalist is what we need most to be concerned with , because they have plans to exploit any catastrophe , made up or not for the main purpose of having countries ceding sovereignty.
It’s not a conspiracy theory , it’s from THEIR OWN WORDS .
Google Richard Haass and the Council on Foreign Relations , the largest ” think tank ” and their attack on not only OUR sovereignty , but any country that needs AID for global warming, food shortage , famine , war, you name it .
Haass - In the recent article, Haass concludes that “the time has come to rethink the notion” of national sovereignty. He calls for “new mechanisms … for regional and global governance that include actors other than states.” These include transnational corporations and non-governmental organizations (NGOs). “States,” he said, “must be prepared to cede some sovereignty to world bodies if the international system is to function. This is already taking place in the trade realm.” In referring to actions taking place in the trade realm, of course, he means primarily those taking place at the World Trade Organization, but also doubtless those that are being implemented through the so-called free trade agreements: NAFTA, CAFTA, and the (stalled) FTAA.
Most of the political players you see on TV belong to the CFR and are involved at different levels , as well as Tom Brokaw, Rather, Barabra Walters and many , many others .
When Katie Couric interviewed Richard Haass (on Youtube) she never asked him WHY , any country let alone ours , should cede sovereignty for Economic reasons or any catastrophe’s .
Otherwise the threat of terrorism or any catastrophe is a pretext for ..INVASIONS , COUNTRIES CEDING SOVEREIGNTY , ALLOWING U.S. MILITARY BASES ETC. ETC.
June 26th, 2008 at 4:02 amOMG, I am an anti-globalist, anti-free trade, anti-fascism, pro-democracy, 9/11 truther and global warming denier. I am so toast.
June 26th, 2008 at 5:38 amI’ll only have to endure 30 years or so of drought here in the desert Southwest, and then I’ll be hunting caribou along the edge of the ice sheet.
