Trying To Appease John Bolton, Hannity Flip-Flops On North Korea Deal In 30 Seconds»

Yesterday, President Bush announced that his administration was taking North Korea off its list of state-sponsors of terror, as well as easing trade restrictions on them, in exchange for an open dismantling of North Korea’s nuclear program. This morning, North Korea destroyed a nuclear tower in “a gesture demonstrating its commitment” to the agreement’s terms.

On his Fox News show last night, right-wing pundit Sean Hannity originally hailed the agreement as “a clear foreign policy victory” for Bush. But Hannity’s guest John Bolton — a fierce advocate for war over negotiations — disagreed, arguing, “I think it’s actually a clear victory for North Korea.”

Hannity promptly attacked the agreement, reversing his position in less than 30 seconds. After first heralding Bush’s “clear victory,” Hannity concluded by declaring himself to be “perplexed” by Bush’s naiveté:

HANNITY: The news today brings a clear foreign policy victory for the Bush administration. But will the press report it that way? Joining us now for analysis, former ambassador to the U.N. and a Fox News contributor, John Bolton. What do you think this means?

BOLTON: I think it’s actually a clear victory for North Korea. They gain enormous political legitimacy…In return, we get precious little. I think this is North Korea demonstrating again that they can out-negotiate the U.S. without raising a sweat.

HANNITY: Boy I tell you they’ve done it time and time again, and I’m sorta perplexed, Mr. Ambassador, to understand why we keep going back to the well knowing that they haven’t kept the agreements in the past. Whatever happened to Reagan’s “trust but verify”?

Watch the video, via Newshounds:

Hannity often seeks to curry favor with Bolton. Last December, when the National Intelligence Estimate revealed that Iran had halted its nuclear weapons program, Hannity helped Bolton continue to beat the war drums by declaring that the report said nothing new, and that Iran was still as grave a threat.

  10. unbelievable Says:

    It’s a very clear flip-flop.

  11. Dr. Hussein Matt Says:

Vannity and the rest of the anti-American reich-wing hail this as some sort of “victory” for herr dubyah, but America doesn’t care. Americans are still paying record high gas prices, the economy is in a recession, we are spending 7 billion/week in Iraq, we have a housing/credit crisis, groceries cost more than ever, and people are saving less and charging more. Sorry reich-wingers, no one cares about this. Welcome to reality.

  12. kirkaracha Says:

Hannity often seeks to curry favor with Bolton

Why? The guy’s a discredited, obnoxious, Wilford Brimley-wannabe. Why do they keep sucking up to these losers who’ve been wrong about everything?

  13. Dr. Hussein Matt Says:

    rogerse Says:

Because TP says so, you attempt to dissent, you myopic pile of feces.

  14. unbelievable Says:

rogerse Says: because tp said so..

    No, common sense.

Yes, we are fully aware that you do not know what that is.

  15. tom Says:

Little Seanie is so funny! Hailing North Korea as a foreign policy victory for GDumbya is like calling the arsonist who then put out the fire he started a hero.

Then John “Got Milk?” Bolton comes on his show and suggests that GDumbya (the arsonist) hasn’t really put out the fire so Little Seanie does a 180 and agrees with him.

Remember, this is the rant-jockey who has made a living out of calling John Kerry and Barack Obama flip-floppers.

kirkaracha Says: Why? The guy’s a discredited, obnoxious, Wilford Brimley-wannabe. Why do they keep sucking up to these losers who’ve been wrong about everything?

Blind adherence to the Father Figure is the foundation of conservatism. You never question the Father Figure, for fear of punishment. Even if the Father Figure is always wrong, you still cannot question or disagree with them. Think ‘Pope’ - it’s essentially the same thing.

  18. Dr. Hussein Matt Says:

Bolton is pissed because negotiations actually work and he can’t continue to press for war with NK.

  19. Chocolate Jesus Says:

    >more sensationalist bs…that was

please name one republican flip flop, rodger dodger..

  20. livelongandprosper Says:

But will the press report it that way?

Uhhhhhh No. Hannity answered his own question in 30 seconds.

    He has no shame.

  23. Abu Ben Hussein Leporello Says:

Obviously Mr. Bolton is completely unfamiliar with the concept of Peace. With that in mind, I offer the following quotations:
“There never was a good war or a bad peace.” (Benjamin Franklin).
“There is many a boy…who looks on war as all glory, but boys, it is all hell.” (W. T. Sherman)
“Force is all conquering, but its victories are short-lived.”
    (Abraham Lincoln)
Impeach Pelosi, Cheney and Bush and Save the Constitution!

Did you know that, if you change just one letter in that phrase, you will come up with GDumbya?

I’ll give you one guess at just which letter it is.

  27. Aanya Says:

Thanks a million! I’ve been telling my friends forever that the difference between Democrats and rethugs, is that rethugs can’t think for themselves! I rest my case!

  28. Dr. Hussein Matt Says:

Actually, this is a clear victory for the Democratic Party…the Party that believes in negotiations first and war last. Once again, the Democratic Party is proved to be correct.

  29. Bilbo Hussein Baggins Says:

    Enough already with Bolton.

The guy gives me the creeps.

  30. scytherius Says:

To sorta quote South Park, Hannity would “hand jobs for crack” if they asked him to.

  37. paleolib Says:

Don’t make the mistake of believing Insanity was “thinking” before making either of his comments. Both are reflexive:
Insanity Chimpy announces something so reflexively it is a “clear foreign policy victory for the Bush administration”
Right wing guest troll: No it is a victory for North Korea and “we get precious little”
Insanity: You’re right right wing guest troll!

I mean, what’s poor Sean gonna do, agree with his pathetic fake liberal co-host?

  40. ralph the wonder llama Says:

As many have noted here, Hannity shouldn’t try to think for himself.

He doesn’t do it very well.

    Same goes for rogerse.

  41. A Patriot Acting Says:

I’ve always thought that Sean Hannity could be Nathan Lane’s evil, right wing heterosexual twin. No offense to Mr. Lane. I’ve also often thought that John Bolton is an @sshole.

  42. A Patriot Acting Says:

    “Trying tTo Appease John Bolton,…”

When will Hannity listen to the preznit and stop appeasing terrorists?

  43. NutWrench Says:

“The speech had been proceeding for perhaps twenty minutes when a messenger hurried on to the platform and a scrap of paper was slipped into the speaker’s hand. He unrolled and read it without pausing in his speech. Nothing altered in his voice or manner, or in the content of what he was saying, but suddenly the names were different. Without words said, a wave of understanding rippled through the crowd. Oceania was at war with Eastasia! The next moment there was a tremendous commotion. The banners and posters with which the square was decorated were all wrong! Quite half of them had the wrong faces on them. It was sabotage! The agents of Goldstein had been at work! There was a riotous interlude while posters were ripped from the walls, banners torn to shreds and trampled underfoot. The Spies performed prodigies of activity in clambering over the rooftops and cutting the streamers that fluttered from the chimneys. But within two or three minutes it was all over. The orator, still gripping the neck of the microphone, his shoulders hunched forward, his free hand clawing at the air, had gone straight on with his speech. One minute more, and the feral roars of rage were again bursting from the crowd. The Hate continued exactly as before, except that the target had been changed.” - 1984, Orwell.

  44. Chocolate Jesus Says:

    >so this one wasn’t?.

no idiot, i think it was. obviously you disagree, then again, as a bush goose-stepping, im going to bet you dont find much inconsistencey in republicans acts or idealogy.

i’ll ask you again.. name on thing you consider to be a republican flip flop?

  45. NutWrench Says:

Chocolate Jesus Says: i’ll ask you again.. name on thing you consider to be a republican flip flop?

Bush 2002: North Korea part of the ‘Axis of Evil’
Bush 2008: Taking North Korea off its list of state sponsored terror.

    Flip. Flop.

Yeesh. At least take the time to read the original story before you continue to flay your ass like this in public.

  46. Chocolate Jesus Says:

    > At least take the time to read
    > the original story before you continue
    > to flay your ass like this in public.

Hi..who are you? Funny, but I dont seem to recall asking YOU..

  47. Great Frybread King Says:

Of course Bolton is pissed. In his own words in the Israeli Knesset, Bush appeased the North Koreans by engaging them in talks, much less removing them from the list of state-sponsors of terror.

  48. Leftside Annie Says:

Poor little Sean. That Tic-Tac that masquerades as his “brain” is going to explode soon.

  49. shoeless Says:

A republican flip flop is too much for roger to comprehend.

roger understood when Hannity flipped for Bush, because roger’s own primitive reptilian brain is conditioned to flip for Bush as a reflex action.

But roger’s ganglia shut down when Hannity flopped for Bolton in the next breath.

  50. hivanh Says:

Hannity is on air and staying there because a lot of people like him and believe what he says, and that pays the bills. It may be wrong, sick and unfathomable to most of “us”, but you have to acknowledge that, along with the fact (absurd, ridiculous and preposterous) that Dubya is actually the President. We’ve all been asking for almost eight years, “How the hell did that happen?” and the answer is that we were not paying enough attention. We snoozed right through the greatest bamboozle of my lifetime.

As for Bolton? I have no idea where in the world he came from, how he got to where he is and why he gets so much press for somemone who is clearly thinking impaired. The Bush administration has a lot of baggage. Some of it is very old, worn and tired, like Rumsfeld, some if it young, brash and stupid, like Addington, some it is spendidly narcissistic and butt-kissing, like Condi, and some of it is just the mostly useless crap they carry around in the cosmetics case, like Bolton. And there is also, of course, the really disgusting old bags of uselss fear-mongering and greed, like Cheney. In any event, it’s all our fault, and it will all be around until January. If we are REALLY lucky, they won’t blow up anything else before then, but I’m not holding my breath.

  51. gitrdone Says:

Haha. That has got to be the funniest clip I have ever seen. And you could tell by the tone of Hannity’s voice that he obviously was confused after Bolton stated his position on the deal.

Hannity, you are a vile piece of human filth and you are not a great American, in fact you are as anti-American as they come. And you, along with Rush Limbaugh, have brainwashed millions of Americans with your daily propaganda and have done more damage to this country then all the corrupt leaders of the past.

When I tune into Hannity, it’s as if I’m listening to a commercial for big oil and coal. Not once does he push for any renewable clean energies such as wind, solar and thermal or electric and air powered cars…but the whole time he’s pushing for energy that is still controlled by the large corporations and still encouraging people to continue their mass consumption of fossil fuels that pollute our airs, cause global warming and continue to bankrupt Americans.

Hannity, there is only one place for you in the after-life and it won’t be in heaven.

  52. gitrdone Says:

“Hannity is on air and staying there because a lot of people like him and believe what he says, and that pays the bills.”

Yea, and the fact that it’s hard not to run into this guy when flipping the radio dial. Also, he makes his show entertaining and easy to understand for the masses of low informed people.

Liberal talk shows can’t do this because in reality, the issues are more complex and require a certain IQ and intellect to understand. This is why their shows are not so widespread and as popular as the right-wing talking heads.

But then again, progressive talkers like Ed Shultz (forgive spelling) give us hope.

  53. shoeless Says:

Also, because most media outlets are owned by wealthy right-wingers with an agenda. They keep Hannity on the air in many areas where he has poor ratings, just for propaganda purposes.

  54. Art Says:

The wind changed… and there goes Hannity.
I’m surprised he didn’t hurt himself.

  55. TrevorAlan Says:

Totally on par for Hannity. Bolton is the perfect symbol for the Bush confusing vocal volume for content in his argument.

As to trust but verify… THEY BLEW UP THEIR OWN FACILITY. If they are demolishing part of thier nuclear program, that’s a pretty verifiable symbol they are actively participating in the agreement.

    Idiots.
