McCains’ home in California about to enter into tax default.

Via Huffpost, Newsweek reports that John and Cindy McCain have failed to pay taxes on their beach-front home in La Jolla, California, for the last four years and are about to enter into default. The article reports that the McCains had been delinquent in paying taxes until Newsweek inquired about the matter. The McCains then paid off $6,744.42 in back taxes, but still owe more. Newsweek writes:

When you’re poor, it can be hard to pay the bills. When you’re rich, it’s hard to keep track of all the bills that need paying. It’s a lesson Cindy McCain learned the hard way when NEWSWEEK raised questions about an overdue property-tax bill on a La Jolla, Calif., property owned by a trust that she oversees. [...]

County officials say the trust still owes an additional $1,742 for this year, an amount that is overdue and will go into default July 1. Told of the outstanding $1,742, the aide said: “The trust has paid all bills shown owing as of today and will pay all other bills due.”

Being rich is such a hardship

In my experience as a past employee of the county treasurer and several attorneys, the richer the tax payer or client, the slower they pay their bills.

And it ain’t because they have so many bills to keep track of, it’s because they feel entitled to do whatever they damn well please — including not paying their bills.

May be they are hoping McSlash can win the presidency…then the ‘tax cut’ he is promising will be the answer.

  3. dixie blood says:

Will Sen. Cindy McLame standup for the need to collect taxes…even from the rich…

Talk about welfare queens…these am those!!!!

Jeebus sh!t these a$$holes don’t really believe they owe anything back to the USA!!

Senator Cindy McLame is unAmerican scum!!!

  4. pete says:

I think it’s time to see if the McCains have been paying payroll taxes for the people who care for all the homes they, apparently, can’t keep track of. I can’t wait till McPander Bear dares use the word “elitist” about his opponent?

  5. Freedom Rebel says:

I guess John McCain doesn’t want to Appease the County Treasurer. His courage is duly noted.

  6. Saint Augustine says:

And why is it that we should trust McSame with our money?

  7. Game of Life says:

The people of the US owe mcchimpy and his meal ticket wife money because of mcchimpy’s service to the US.

  8. LoraS says:

So the Cindy McCain Trust is going to pay up. What a McShame! I was hoping to bid for it at a country auction.

  9. spencers mom says:

If this had been a “normal” Californian, trust me, their home would have had a lien in the first year, and been sold at auction by the second or third year at best.

But, IOKIYAR and you have money.

    Sickening, really.

    PEACE

Oh, please. Taxes are for the little people. (fanning self)

Shooo now. Go on. Go away.

  11. Roket says:

So when will the flunky accountant responsible for keeping the bills paid on this asset be receiving that promotion? Or is this Medal of Freedom material?

It’s hard out there for a GOP pimp…

  13. pete says:

That’s the beauty of it, Tanker. Obama doesn’t have to even mention McPander Bear. As long as Johnny keeps saying idiotic things on camera? The campaign runs itself.

  14. BlackbirdHighway says:

John McCain is just a regular guy who owns 7 houses, just the same as the rest of us. He’s not an elitist at all, like that Obama guy.

  15. Marie says:

Zooey, in my life’s experience, I have come to the same conclusion. Wealthy people, more often, seem to think they can pay bills whenever they feel like it — it’s a mindset that is because they HAVE the money, it isn’t like they’re deadbeats — they will just pay when they get a round to it.

There is no excuse for “lost in the mail” — certain bills are the homeowner’s responsibility to remember and pay on time. Everyone can get a break now and then from a utility company, but when it comes to taxes, there are no acceptable excuses.

Too bad, so sad for the McCains. It’s so hard to be rich these days.

  16. carollt says:

If McCain cannot keep track of his own bills, how will he track the efficient use of our dollars in Washington?

Simple answer; he will not and we will become an even bigger debtor nation than Bush has made us.

I like the fact that Obama has cash in the bank and all debts paid timely. If Obama runs our government in that manner, we will have a hope of paying off the national debt.

Goerge Bush has really run this country into the financial ground. It will take a individual who has an eye for the dollars to bring us out of the red. Obviously, that man is not John McCain.

There goes this weeks beer money…

  18. celtic cynic says:

Doing the rough math on this “deal”, there’s about $8,400 in taxes on an oceanfront condo in LaJolla, Ca. for four years. That’s about $2,000 per year.

I wonder if their neighbors get the same rate.

    Just curious.

  19. Fred says:

It’s called deficit spending….get used to it if mccain gets elected….oh yeah…we’re already there. Nowhere to go but down if mccain has his way.

Too bad Newsweek discovered this now, and not after July 1, when apparently it would have hit the 5 yr default point. At that point the elderly aunt would have been evicted & the sh*t would have really hit the fan. Can’t believe this went on for 4+ yrs!

When our mortgage bank didn’t pay the last yr of school taxes under escrow account (and didn’t tell us!), and we didn’t find out about it until the last day, the district tax collector told us that wouldn’t have been a good excuse, that the taxes were still due by the deadline.

Such trials & challenges to keep track of 8 “homes” – I don’t think the McCains have TIME to keep track of the country & world (let alone campaign) at the same time they are behind in their own affairs!

I can hear it now …

LUVIE, I supposed we’d better check on all our ‘Trust Funds’ and make sure all of our 7 properties have paid their taxes; I suppose you’re right THURSTON.

Who are the ELITISTS, again? And, which ones are the HYPOCRITES? Oh, it’s just so difficult to keep up, dotcha know. Sheez.
