Kristol: ‘Republicans are much more open to strong women.’

On Fox News Sunday this morning, Weekly Standard editor Bill Kristol sarcastically decried “the horrible sexism and misogyny that the Democratic primary voters demonstrated” towards Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-NY). “It never would have happened in the Republican party,” claimed Kristol. “Republicans are much more open to strong women.” Watch it:

Kristol’s sarcastic claim is ironic given the sexism he himself directed at Clinton during the primary. Not only did he mock her tears in January, but in February, while discussing Clinton’s supporters, Kristol quipped, “White women are a problem, that’s, you know — we all live with that.”

    So strong, they’re mAnn Coulter?

  2. gummitch says:

No way I’m playing that link, because I’d have to punch a perfectly good monitor. On any real news program, this comment from Kristol would be greeted with gales of laughter. I’d love to see him make that claim in his New York Times “column.” As it is, the only people watching are equally-stupid neocons and liberal watchdogs with stronger stomachs than I have.

The same non-sexist Republican Coulter who said that women shouldn’t be allowed to vote?

  4. christopher wiwi says:

He and Johnny are not on the same page when it come to this subject, or is Kristol just pandering to women????????

But bill will tell them what to think

  7. LibertyLover says:

Yep. don’t you see all of the viable women candidates that the repubs have run for President?

Liz Dole couldn’t even get anyone to spit in her direction when she ran for President…

  8. scytherius says:

The blather that comes from the mouths of Republicans is absolutely hysterical. You know they just LOVE those strong willed women that want to be in charge of their own reproductive system. In Texas, especially, they LOVE thos strong willed women that use sex toys. And they love those strong willed women SO much that when they pass anti-abortion legislation they ALWAYS make sure that the life of the mother is paramount . . . or not.

Republicans should be rounded up in camps.

  9. liberal traitor says:

    Republicans like strong women.

They try to make women ’stronger’ by continuing policies that make them have to work harder than men for the same pay.

They try to make women ’stronger’ by trying to force them to carry pregnancies that are the product of rape. Roe v. Wade must go.

They like strong women in the sense of the strong silent type of women.

They like strong women in the sense that they like women with the ’strength’ to keep going after being called a “b!tch” (John McCain supporter on Hillary) or a “(unt” (John McCain on Cindy McCain).

I could go on, but I’m already feeling ill.

  10. Freedom Rebel says:

Let’s not forget Phyllis Schlafly her opposition to feminism and the Equal Rights Amendment.

Schlafly has been criticized for dispersing alleged disinformation about sex education in the public schools and working against federally funded day care and abortion.[37] She has described sex education classes as “in-home sales parties for abortions.

Republicans give rise to irrational women like Phyllis that say and do terrible things with their full support.

“Republicans are much more open the strong women”

But they can call their wives the “c” word & “trollop” in public, as McCain did.

  13. paleolib says:

Billy must be referring to Republican acceptance of women who can bench press a lot of weight. Reality intrudes otherwise.

  14. Marie says:

Republicans ARE much more open to women — Open to them being totally obedient.

  15. Fred says:

katherine harris….heh. they used her and threw her away.

American women should understand that repubs will suppress them. Sufferage was fought by democrats against republicans. republicans did not, do not really want women to vote.

  16. Zooey says:

As long as their women wear pink linen suits, fake pearls, half a gallon of perfume, and a vacant look — Republican men are very open to them.

Not just sexism, but their inherent racism shows through again. Republicans will never admit this, but they see skin color first, then the person wearing that skin second. They like to divide people (in their minds) into “white people” and “non-white people”.

  18. dbadass says:

Are we talking in a Margaret Thatcher sort of way or more a Madonna sort of way? Maybe it is a Jane Goodall sort of way. Wendy O Williams perhaps?

  19. unbelievable says:

    Is that why the repeatedly called Hillary Clinton a B I T C H ?

  20. unbelievable says:

If Republicans want us to have a better country, then they should support an Equal Rights Amendment.

I know I post this a lot, but I’m going to keep posting it until somthing positive happens.

Countries that treat women as equals (and thus have Equal Rights laws) experience the following:
    Higher health
    Higher employment
    Higher standards of living
    Longer life spans
    Lower birth rates
    Lower infant mortality
    Lower crime rates
    Lower teen pregnancies
    Lower STD rates
    Lower abortion rates

Countries that treat women as inferior experience the opposite.

If Republicans care about strong women, then they should fight for Equal Rights laws. Until I see them fighting for Equal Rights, I won’t believe they care about any women – strong or othrwise – or about America.

  21. dbadass says:

    unbelievable:
I mean in no way to discount this. I am just wondering if you feel that this is a cause/effect relationship or if these positive data are the outcome of some broader variable?

  23. barfly says:

Yeah, they’re so accepting of strong women, except when they’re black. “Obama’s baby momma” sounds like a real honorific.

  24. Robt says:

Didn’t Kristol mean, Strong women that are conservative, republican or naively loyal as Dole’s wife Elizaveth Dole who became a Senator because she had elite cronyism rights to it. Then the a Monica Goodling types that thinks they took an oath to the president ? Not to mention the Larry Craig and David Vitter’s wives that seem to be Stepford wives. As Cindy McCain perhaps is displaying.

Strong women that take orders blindly. Against the best interest of people they represent. Must be conservative or Bush adoring.

  25. ForTruth says:

There must be some other meaning of the word “strong” Mr. Krissy is intending to convey here.

I would like to ask what has Laura Bush done during her time as First Lady? Aren’t most all FIrst Ladies known for doing something? Even if it was Lady Bird’s “Beautify America” thingy?

  26. Zooey says:

First Lady Laura Bush has personally propped up the pharmaceutical industry, by consuming mass quantities of tranquilizers over the last 8 years.

    She’s done her part, ForTruth!

  27. Oval12345678 aka James K. Sayre says:

What a sexist remark, Mr. Kristol. First off, you are wrongfully assuming that the term, “Republicans,” somehow refers to only male Republicans… Funny, Republicans are the party of sexism and racism.

That’s really sad. Cindy McCain has that same blank look in her eyes. Republican women believe that it is okay to be abused my the “man” in their life.

I have a neighbor the is a Bush/Cheney Republican and he is always saying how he “attends to the little woman” and how he makes sure she is treated like a princess. This happens in public only. A friend of mine has a cleaning business and was cleaning at this neighbor’s house. She told me that she over heard how this Republican really treated his “little woman”. He was abusive and disrespectful to his wife behind closed doors.

  30. Cats r Flyfishn says:

Strong in the Republican definition means tough enough to take a hit or two or three and any other abuse from the Republican man and still step out in public with a smile on her face and an adoring look in her eyes.

    TrippleKick Says:
Wow, now you’re even bashing the first lady for no reason. Its no wonder you people are so marginalized.

Funny comin from you. You do realize that you are the ones on the fringe now. You are the ones the country sees as the lunatic fringe influence. You are the ones headed for a minority position….probably forever.

Americans have sorted out who the real moonbats are and it is you.

Have you watched McCain and his wife in public? They do not tough, they do not look at each other, Cindy hangs back unless John needs the pretty upfront. He called her a c*nt and trollop in front of reporters.

Imagine what it’s like in private…

    No. Don’t.

  33. Zooey says:

Yikes. Correction in my first sentence: They do not touch.

    I don’t know if they don’t tough. :-D

  34. Cats r Flyfishn says:

Yeah, I hear you Zooey. I noticed the same thing… it’s that little smile and the adoring gaze until he says “fetch”. I wonder where he hits her. My guess is that he does. Anyone that treats their wife in public the way he treats Cindy has got to be treating her worse in private. No wonder she has a drug problem. I worked in drug and alcohol rehab and most females addicts are victims of abuse, from early on in their life.

Sure Bill, just look at the fine group of strong women the Republican party had running this time around as candidates for their presidential nominee, proof positive it’s the Republican party leading the way on this one.

Well, OK, technically they didn’t front any women this time around, but didn’t Rudy look smashing in that gown and earrings?

Why does everyone, Think Progress included, take what these clowns say at face value? Half of what they say is a variation on the “tough guy talk”. You know, where a macho stud goes around calling everyone a homo. And he does it because deep down he knows he has homosexual thoughts. It’s no different than when they call liberals fascists.

Because we will no longer accept their Projection of their own behavior and call it out so (hopefully) we can lower Chimpy’s 23% approval rating.

Is that just some projection? I haven’t had a zit in 40 years.

And as far as being ‘losers’, another projection, since you are part of the 19%ers.

    Heh heh.

  51. RWeSafer says:

The most ironic part of this ridiculous claim (now) is that the Repulican party was once the party of women — near the end of the 19th century — along with being the party of Lincoln (BTW, Lincoln was not a republican in 1864).

  52. dbadass says:

Let’s see now, financial net worth is a Rethug measure for the value/worth of a specific human being. The more money you posses and accumulate the more power you are entitled in the Rethug society – strong people – in the mind of a Rethug – are the very well to do.

Cindy McCain’s net worth exceeds John McCain’s net worth by a factor of a minimum of twenty times. She is much more wealthy than her husband – so she is a strong woman because of her vast net worth – by Rethug measure.

Why did John McCain a few years back state this comment to his wife – who is clearly viewed as a strong woman by Rethug standards ?

    John McCain verbatim:

“At least I don’t plaster on the makeup like a trollop – you cunt.”

McCain made this derogatory statement in public about his strong woman/wife – in front of three members of the media.

That is the most disrespectful thing to call any woman especially a woman you would consider a loving wife – seems Billy Kristol is talking out of his ass again – Rethugs have no respect for womanhood unless they are uneducated, bare footed and pregnant while worshiping and serving the king of the castle – the man they call their husband. They are nothing but chattel and slaves to attend to men’s needs.

Kristol get your head – out your ass, you fascist lying pig.
