McCain’s new Truth Squad has former member of Swift Boat Veterans.»

day.JPGFollowing the lead of Barack Obama’s campaign, John McCain is establishing his own Truth Squad – an effort to “respond to unfair attacks” on his military record. One of the members of McCain’s new Truth Squad — Bud Day — was a member of the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth, and appeared in an attack ad for the group in 2004. (See the ads here.) Day said of John Kerry’s military service: “My view is he basically will go down in history sometime as the Benedict Arnold of 1971.”

UpdateFlashback: In 2004, McCain said of the Swift Boat Veterans, "I deplore this kind of politics. I think the ad is dishonest and dishonorable."
UpdateOn a conference call arranged by McCain’s campaign, Bud Day said, “The Swift Boat attacks were simply a revelation of the truth.” Sen. John Kerry (D-MA) called on McCain to condemn those remarks and “cut ties with the Colonel and anyone else connected to SBVT.”

This guy looks like JUST the guy to help dispell McSame’s dottering old fool image.

  2. robbez_92107 Says:

Ooops. dispell s/b dispel. That’s what happens when you can’t spell!

  3. texaslady Says:

The only “so called” unfair attack I heard is Wesley Clark questioning being held as a POW as qualifications for Presidency. Well how does it ? Chris Mathews, Terry Moran R.Sanchez are all foaming at the mouth because McCain served in Vietnam. So, did many others 55,000 which never came back.
These are the same ones that thought nice hair and fun guy to have a beer with would be a great Presidency. Boy that is really working out well for America isn’t it?

  4. A Patriot Acting Says:

“Truth Squad” lol…who says the Repubs don’t do humor?
The Protect America Act, Operation Iraqi Freedom, The Patriot Act, etc. If we go by past monikers put forth by the Right Wing, we can easily assume that no actual “truth” will be forthcoming from this geezer (I mean Bud Day, not his father’s old friend Johnny McCant).

  5. Leftside Annie Says:

    Truth Squad = LIE Squad.

Disgusting. And Tankie? Crashing 5 planes, being captured and then shilling for the enemy does NOT qualify you - or John McLame - to be Commander in Chief.

  6. Zooey Says:

Um, yeah. Doddering old nutters unite!!

  7. misshusseinmolly Says:

I have a feeling that this election will quickly disintegrate into such monumental issues as whether or not Michelle Obama rants about “whitey” and whether or not getting shot down in a plane is heroic, with swiftboating going on madly from all sides.

It’s a pity. I think the economy, the conflict in Iraq, whether or not to bomb Iran, the health insurance industry, and global warming are more important. Would it be asking too much for the media to devote some time to how both candidates plan to cope with these things?

  8. A Patriot Acting Says:

Nothing “dirty” about it, gin-soaked-troll. Wesley Clarke spoke the truth. If you can debate the truth, by all means do so. If not, go Cheney yourself.

    Republican(dick-tap)Tanqueray and Larry Craig

  9. Buckie Boy Says:

Budd day, sounds like a good day to me…. :-)

Weren’t these guys proven to be liars?

    Tanqueray Says:
Well why not, it worked against Kerry.

Gen. Clark tried the same crap yesterday, and Barry through him under the armored personnel carrier.

I’m starting to waver in my support of Barry, come on get out there and fight dirty.

    Barry(fist-tap)you and me bro.

    when trolls learn

    to spell

    republicans will start

    to win elections.

    :)

    good luck.

    Yes. Yes it would.

  12. Dr. Hussein Matt Says:

    Is that McGrampa’s younger brother?

  13. scytherius Says:

It says a lot that a Republican having something called a “truth squad” is utterly hysterical.

  14. Above the Clouds Says:

Only can the Republicans fill their “Truth Squad” with a pack of liars. The real truth is that the GOP is on their last legs thanks to the “leadership”of Bush, Cheney, Rove, and the neocon losers.

  15. Zimzone Says:

    Who you ‘gonna call? TRUTHBUSTERS!

McLame surrounds himself with people that tell him how great he is…sound familiar? (Bush being compared to Lincoln)

These old odd white farts have done a lot of damage to some very good people. Now, McCain thinks putting them in charge is a good idea.

Can’t he remember these are the same people who swiftboated him in 2000?…I think I just answered my own question.

  16. texaslady Says:

Well last days of GOP, don’t think so when you have listeners hearing from Tweety Bird, and other so called reliable journalists. Tell me we don’t have rampant racism in our media talking heads. McCain’s handlers need to update him on voter’s concerns like the price of gas. McCain didn’t have a clue when asked about it. McCain admits the economy is not a strong issue with him. Ok, so exactly what are your qualifications….war ?

  17. RUCerious Says:

I find it somewhat humorous, that the Truth squad should keep their Tooth Squad in a glass of water in the bathroom.

  18. po Says:

Well, liars should know lies when they see them (and be able to manufacture lies out of half-truths, misquotes or, my personal fav for the Right, taking quotes out of context - just look at Wes Clark being blamed for what Schieffer said. But, hey, why let the truth invade spin.

  19. texaslady Says:

Critical comments ? Asking for a resume of qualifications for someone wanting the Presidency ? Most people from retail through any job have to be qualified beyond being a yes man.

  20. Starve-A-Bush_Feed-A-Beaver Says:

The last three shows I’ve seen on MSNBC are just disgraceful. Andrea Mitchell said that Wesley Clark was “attacking” John McCain’s record. The black lady before her (don’t recall her name) said on her show that Clark was “distorting” McCain’s record. And on Monica Novotny’s show, she said Clark was “parsing” McCain’s record. Clark neither attacked, distorted, nor parsed McCain’s record. He said that, given McCain’s record, it still doesn’t qualify him for President over Obama, who didn’t serve. MSNBC is the best of the big three cable networks. But that’s not saying much. This morning, their display of lies, deceit, and distortions about what Clark said was just shameful. They don’t deserve to be on the air.

  21. Dr. Hussein Matt Says:

General Wes Clark has faaaaar more credibility on the military than McGrampa will ever possess. Fact.

  22. texaslady Says:

MSNBC is so conservative between Mika and Scar and whoever the one with the strange eyes in the a.m. They can’t even pretend impartiality. Obviously being a POW didn’t give you empathy for today’s soldiers when you couldn’t even vote for the new GI Bill.

It looks like MSNBC puts the wackos on in the morning, for the elderly Righties who are home to watch while waiting for their SS checks to come. Then, for the intelligent adult progressive audience, they put KO on at night.

    Interesting strategy.

  24. trollsbwild Says:

I want to call John McCain by his military code name-

    GRANDBO!

  25. upside99 Says:

Maybe this guy can run as McDepends VeeP, would make Johnny Boy look younger!

  26. paleolib Says:

Looks like Wes hit a nerve with what was a pretty mild comment. Now watch the defensive overreaction. Bringing in the swifty boaters just ties McNutzi closer to chimpy. Not to mention Obama gets to stand back and look presidential while a bunch of old guys stand around arguing over who was studlier in the delta forty years ago.

  27. texaslady Says:

Actually Rush, BillO pander to the mentally retired crowd along with MSNBC. I keep thinking MSNBC will change tunes but no, same old, same old. True media is hard to find. KO I agree has facts an honesty.

  28. texaslady Says:

Excuse me, but what about my comment is abusive ? No swearing, no name calling.

Ah. Sometimes the filter gets set off by very subtle things.

  32. christopher wiwi Says:

I know for a fact that most of the Swift boat Veterans are digusted by this “swift boating” in 2004 and in 2008 because of what they accomplished and for those who did not make it home to their families. We all know John Mcwars wil do opposite of what he say`s nine times out of ten,he can`t tell heads from tales and just think of all damage he`ll do if elected, more WAR and a country that will be overrun by China, S.Korea and the rest of the industrialized world. Won`t that be FUN………..

  33. MapleStreet Says:

Uh Johnny, what about the evidence that you admitted to the N. Vietmam about you participating in crimes against humanity ? Not to mention all those nice airplanes you crashed.

Those who live in glass houses…..
