Reid: ‘Coal makes us sick!’

The Crypt reports that the video of an appearance by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) on the Fox Business Network has gone viral on YouTube, attracting over 270,000 views and earning a spot on the site’s “most viewed” list. In the interview, Reid emphatically states, “Coal makes us sick.” Watch it:

Conservatives are “sending around the video as part of an effort to make Democrats appear out of touch on the need to produce more energy and drill more oil wells.” But of course, Reid is telling the obvious truth — coal is dirty. According to the American Lung Association, 24,000 people a year die prematurely because of pollution from coal-fired power plants. And every year 38,000 heart attacks, 12,000 hospital admissions and an additional 550,000 asthma attacks result from power plant pollution.

UpdateJust yesterday, a Georgia judge ruled that a proposed coal-fired plant could not be built in the state unless its carbon dioxide emissions are limited.

doesnt matter if coal makes us sick its better then Nuclear which it looks like is where we're headed. Obama is a hired agent of the Nuclear industry and Hillary works for the Health care industrial complex. We're screwed unless we enact the national initiative so we can have a CHOICE.

    i told you so

  2. StratRat Says:

Coal is dirty, everybody knows that. Ask any coal miner in West Virginia. Most of the poor souls who have toiled in the mines for over 20 years can hardly breathe.

I guess were just not ALLOWED to say that coal is dirty. Everybody knows it's dirty...Why can't we say it?

  3. Witch1 Says:

Reid, you and palosi make me sick.....Guess we are on the same page Old Hack...Blessings

  4. 5th Estate Says:

Coal fueled the Industrial Revolution and brought the British Empire to its zenith.

Lacking the technology to filter pretty much anything let alone something as obvious as coal dust and soot, Victorian England nonetheless began to recognize its health hazards after a couple of decades and at least (officially anyway) got children out of the mines and foundries--but only by government regulation.

THe US Coal industry wants to return to the 'Coal Age' of 180 years ago, without regulation.

Mary Poppins is a charming film but Dick van Dyke's performance as Bert the Chimney Sweep is hardly a relevant basis for a new, old, energy regime that the US coal industry would have us believe.

So help me to understand the conservative message here..."if something kills us, it must be good?" Why do they prefer to live in a crappy environment, breathing bad air and drinking toxic water? Is there a socio-political predisposition towards taking positions that will hasten our destruction? There view of an ideal government seems to be to start pre-emptive wars without cause so we can bankrupt ourselves while our infrastructure rots away. Somehow, I don't see this as a winning, longterm starategy.

Thanks to the early posters who said, "Reid and Pelosi make me sick." Instead of this insane thoughtless non-plan for endless growth, fueled by endlessly increasing numbers of humans, we need to stop over-reproducing and stop covering the planet with human activity. We are destroying the earth. Only cutting back on our numbers will allow Mother Nature to survive and prosper in the future.

Coal is a dirty word, that's why.

  8. Briseadh na Faire Says:

Meanwhile, Bush&Co get everything they want out of the Democratic controlled House and Senate.

    Thanks fer nuthin, Reid.

yeah, I know, NSA is monitoring this conversation...sigh.

  9. Gregor Samsa Says:

Only in Conservaland would anyone come up with the idea of smearing someone for stating the obvious.

Tomorrow's headline: "Conservatives outraged after Reid says water is wet."

    ::shaking head::

    Q U E S T I O N:

China has a growing energy demand that is far outpacing ours and primarily has depended on COAL. Since their coal supply is dwindling compared to their projected needs...

IF China saw America as it's COAL field and organized an attack upon America with a case concerning our use of WMD's and nuclear technology and use of nukes and radiated munitions, subsequently overturning/toppling our Government, displacing it with their form of government under the ruse of "spreading Communism"; occupied our town halls and city governments; disbanded our military and occupied our military facilities; filled our streets with mercenaries with the directive to 'shoot to kill' ANY person that appears to be a threat; broke down your door and raided your house only once this week because last week they came after your father/son/husband/brother, shackling them in the middle of your neighborhood only to rendition them off to private internment camps...

Who would argue that the resulting insurgency needs to be put down? Who would side with China to hand over our natural resources?

I seriously think many, MANY Loyal conservatives would consider it... NO?

... and maybe a few turncoat Dem's too, eh Nancy?

exactly the leftist agenda to make prices go up. when will the left wake up… never i guess. i guess we should just use corn for gas. its all in front of your own faces and you dont realize the soros agenda. ts so funny. lets use wind and solar now!!!!

There are hundreds of already drilled wells just waiting to be pumped, and you know it.

What silly shit are you saying?

  14. barfly Says:

    drick23 Says:

once again no solutions to a supposed proble,m. thank the demogogs for Ur 4 buck a gallon gas.

We could always pump those wells that have just been sitting there, since the late seventies. But that wouldn't allow you to gloat would it? You don't want a solution to the problem, because it would highlight the inaction of the republican rubberstamps, and their supporters, like you.

  15. barfly Says:

    Prytania:
What silly shit are you saying?

His scat is cold, but I always like to p*ss on his trail. It confuses the hell out of him, when he tries to backtrack...

  16. Cats r Flyfishn Says:

Reid is absolutely correct on this, not to mention all the sulfur and acid rain. There are streams in Pennsylvania that are "dead" streams. No plants or fish can live in these streams because of the acidity caused by the coal mines and the acid rain.
