Mullen: Can’t have more troops in Afghanistan ‘until I have a reduced requirement in Iraq.’»

June 2008 was the deadliest month of the Afghanistan war and the second straight month that the number of troops killed there surpassed that of Iraq. “It has been a tough month in Afghanistan,” President Bush acknowledged today. This morning, Joint Chiefs Chairman Mike Mullen said he cannot send more troops to Afghanistan until there are further troop reductions in Iraq:

MULLEN: What I said in my statement is also important as a part of that calculus, which is, I don’t have troops I can reach for, brigades I can reach to send into Afghanistan until I have a reduced requirement in Iraq.

Watch it:

“[U]nlike the insurgency in Iraq, we don’t have enough troops there to hold,” he added later, when asked about the Taliban’s growth.

ATTENTION LIBS! How does it feel to be TOTALLY conned!!!!

  5. Arn Gunnutes Says:

Yeah. The US military is FKCVED, and coming to a halt.

When TRAITOR Bush DROPS DEAD and goes to hell (hopefully SOON), his punishment should be:

    1. Sent back to Baghdad with a sign on him that says KICK ME.

    2. When he expires in Iraq and goes back to hell, repeat the treatment, BUT SEND THE PUNK TO TEHRAN.

    BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

  6. Hussein McCain Says:

If the Taliban runs us out of Afghanistan are we going to need
Johnny Bombers to rally the troops and make America strong again?

  7. k Says:

Not ALL of us were conned - in fact more of us voted for Hillary than Obama - however ALL OF YOU are conned every election - so you’re the expert on what it feels like to be conned! ROTFL!!

Don’t worry trolls, there is a lot of room between Obama and McSame and the third term of the worst president ever. How does it feel to be in the lower 23% of intellect and everything by supporting the thugs in the Bush Crime Family? How does it feel to vote against your own self interest? I could never be a bottom feeding, knuckle dragging, troglogdyte who supports the crime family while they are picking my pocket. I wouldn’t have the nads to go on a board with intelligent people and post how stupid you are.

  13. Saint Augustine Says:

Thanks for asking. After 7 years of being conned by Bush it doesn’t feel good at all!

  14. upside99 Says:

    OT but interesting:

McCain just fired his Campaign Operations Manager and replaced him with Steve Schmidt, a KKKarl protoge’.

I bet things will get REALLY ugly now!

The final selling of McDepend’s soul.

I feel a draft! Hide your children.

  16. Erroll Says:

In contrast, what Obama, the [alleged] antiwar candidate wishes to do is shift the focus from Iraq to Afghanistan by sending more troops to Afghanistan. But sending more troops into Afghanistan where they can bomb more Afghan villages and homes does not exactly seem like the best way to win the hearts and minds of the Afghan people, now does it? But since Obama is actually moving to the right of McCain and Bush by also calling for an INCREASE in the military budget, one wonders how Obama can claim to be an actual antiwar candidate. Perhaps another example of Americans once again thinking with their hearts instead of their heads.

  17. MOONBAT Says:

    Do I feel a draft?

  18. Cal Malenky Says:

And Junior wants one more before he goes.

  19. Oval12345678 aka James K. Sayre Says:

It is a little ironic, to say the least, that the Imperial USofA doesn’t not seem to care for its own Middle Eastern creations over the long term. We helped put Saddam in power as the dictator of Iraq and we helped train, arm and create the Taliban in Afghanistan to oppose the Soviet occupation (done in the early 1980s by Republican President Reagan and the CIA).

O/T, it would seem that Senator John McForrestalFire does not want reporters to do a thorough investigation of his naval aviator career…

  20. LibertyLover Says:

Then how’s he gonna invade Iran?

  21. Max-1 Says:

    .

    Erroll,
ummm… and staying in Iraq is winning their hearts and minds…?

    LOL

    U-R teh CRAZYYYY!!!!!

    Has YOUR CIC found OBL…?
    DOES he even care…?
WHO let OBL slip into Pakistan…?
    DO YOU even care…?

    .

  22. Ichi263 Says:

….besides we need troops for Iran…. really people….

  23. Evil Spaniard Says:

“Mullen: Can’t have more troops in Afghanistan ‘until I have a reduced requirement in Iraq.’”

Bush, Cheney, McCain, Liebermann and the rest: same goes for Iran.

  24. DallasNE Says:

Why can’t more troops be shifted from places like South Korea and Germany? Also, why are so many military trained for non-combat roles. Lastly, our military is Officer heavy.

Adm. Mullen is in a position to correct these shortcomings. Why doesn’t he rather than complain about the hand he is dealt.

Frankly, after 5 1/2 years, I don’t see why it is necessary to have 150,000 troops in Iraq. Proping up al Maliki hardly seems like a valid mission for our troops. As I have said many times, the war in Iraq has been poorly Generaled going all the way back to Tommy Franks. Somebody needs to address this problem at the top of our military.

  25. Bushie Says:

Next week Mullen will issue a statement, that in order to spend more time with his family, he is retiring immediately.

  26. Cal Malenky Says:

Whatever the experts say, Bush and Cheney will do the opposite.

  27. Erroll Says:

    #21-Max-1

You seem to have come to have come to the bizarre conclusion that I favor U.S. troops in Iraq. It does not seem to have occurred to you that the U.S. military belongs neither in Iraq nor Afghanistan. Having the U.S. occupying those two countries will never win the hearts and minds of the citizens of those two countries, just like the U.S. was doomed to fail in attempting to occupy and subjugate the Vietnamese people.

    Bring the troops-ALL of them-home-now.
