After initially suggesting that the opinion of professional economists does not “matter,” the McCain campaign has released “a statement signed by over 300 professional economists” who support the senator’s economic plan. But as the Politico’s Avi Zenilman points out, the 300 conservative economists who endorse McCain’s plan still reject “two big chunks” of the senator’s proposal: “the gas tax holiday and his promise to balance the budget by 2013.” The Wonk Room has more.
The more I see the train wreck that McCain’s campaign is becoming, the more I think that he’s the sacrificial lamb that the Republicans have thrown out to appease the masses and clear the books for 2012.

Oh, but he’s a McPublican…
… They’re fiscally responsible. Just look at Worst Bush.

Does McTORTURE give out extra credit to trolls that keep reincarnating…?
… Just look at Roger, rogers, rogerse, rogerze, and now rozrez… or something like that.
… “CLUELESS!!!”

July 7th, 2008 at 1:09 pmthe McCain campaign has released “a statement signed by over 300 professional economists” who support the senator’s economic plan.
This from the same man who said ” If you line up all the economists, they couldn’t reach a conclusion.”
July 7th, 2008 at 1:13 pmWhat else do you expect from a schmuck? McSenile has a lot more caving to do before the convention.

July 7th, 2008 at 1:14 pmMcIIIrd should switch from a bus to a balloon. There’s easily enough hot air to ride it up, up, up!!!
July 7th, 2008 at 1:15 pmraynman, my thought as well. The BushitCo legacy is just too damning to follow, so they throw the goat under the bus, and regroup around Romney in 12.
July 7th, 2008 at 1:17 pmTake this stuff seriously. They will use this to attack Obama’s plan and to insinuate that the Republicans are the only party capable of fixing the economy. We need to attack this on several levels:
1. This is what the Republicans have been doing for the past 8 years with little success.
2. Tax cuts for corporations have not been able to generate jobs because the tax code allows expatriation of money saved on taxes to tax shelters and to export US jobs.
3. We have seen a rising inequality of income. Do these economists really believe that such an economy is sustainable or fair?
Lastly, we need our own pannel of experts to support Obama’s plan. Then it becomes two competing sets of experts with our experience of what has actually happened with Republicans in control.
July 7th, 2008 at 1:22 pmObviously tp wanted to spin it, but mccain has more economic support for his plan than obama’s.
July 7th, 2008 at 1:24 pmrogerze- do you ever have your own opinion rather than Faux news talking points ? McCain has NO plan, just wants to export more jobs to other countries, gee, just like his twin, georgie.
July 7th, 2008 at 1:28 pmWhere does the myth of fiscally responsible republicans come from? They are incapable of doing anything that the old timer has suggested he would do. He’s leaving plenty of room for broken promises.
Republicans will balance the budget right after the Washington Senators beat the Harlem Globetrotters.
July 7th, 2008 at 1:33 pmSo, he’s finished reading Alan Greenspan’s book and suddenly he has an effective economic plan? Aha ha ha ha!
July 7th, 2008 at 1:35 pmHey Brozere!
ABC News/Washington Post Poll. June 12-15, 2008. N=1,125 adults nationwide. Fieldwork by TNS.
N=1,125 adults, MoE ± 3
“Regardless of who you may support, who do you trust more to handle “The economy” : Obama or McCain?” Candidate names rotated
McCain 36
Obama 52
Both (vol.) 2
Neither (vol.) 5
Unsure 5
The American people pick Obama by an overwhelming percentage.
July 7th, 2008 at 1:36 pmThat’s why McIIIrd’s getting desperate.
The statement itself is freakin’ hilarious. This “distinguished” list (only about 15 or so signatories from AEI and Hoover plus Phil Gramm’s entire family) of economists assumes McNutzi will (1) get a line item veto; (2) veto every single bill containing an earmark; and (3) be able to hold all nonmilitary expenditures flat for a year. They might as well have just said “we endorse the McCain economic plan because we are convinced he is a magic man and will cause a miracle to occur.”

average people do not outweigh financial professionals, other way around.
July 7th, 2008 at 1:43 pm“McCain’s economists reject ‘two big chunks’ of his economic proposal.”
The first half and the second half, I suppose.
July 7th, 2008 at 1:49 pmJebus. That pathetic, clueless, drooling and senile old barstid McOld needs to just …retire.
July 7th, 2008 at 1:56 pmMy friends,
July 7th, 2008 at 2:12 pmI regret saying I didn’t know much about economics. It turns out I do. Holy Joe & Lindsay Cracker worked hard on each other to produce what I see as ginormous relief in us Elitist’s tax breaks.
As part of my plan, I’ll raise taxes on everyone but the top 1% of Americans. Next, I’ll continue our President’s tax cuts to the rich, which I’m proud to be one of.
Oh, and did I mention I’d bomb Iran? That will boost the economic foundation of our good friends, the defense contractors.
Thank you for listening. Now I have to take a nap.
The McCain Plan: Voodoo,Redux.
And another golden oldie from that bygone era: “Where’s the Beef? “

But who votes? That is what matters.
Electoral Votes Obama = 317 McDepends = 221
July 7th, 2008 at 2:41 pmAll the rest of the chunks McCain blew are acceptable?
July 7th, 2008 at 2:49 pmYeah, in case you’ve not figured it out already all questions for presidential candidate John McCain should be directed to his handlers/lobbyists – they can tell you best what McCain’s corporate doners have planned for the American wage slaves.
