This week, Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki urged a timetable for a U.S. withdrawal from Iraq. “The direction we are taking is to have a memorandum of understanding either for the departure of the forces or to have a timetable for their withdrawal,” he said. In an interview yesterday, Sen. John McCain (R-AZ), who has rejected these calls already, flatly denied that Iraqis requested a withdrawal timeline:
Q: Senator, with Iraqi leaders now calling for a timetable for U.S. troop withdrawals–
McCAIN: Actually, the Iraqis are not. The Iraqis were widely reported as short a time ago as a couple of weeks ago that there would be no status of forces agreement, and Maliki would say that, and it got headlines, and of course it turned out not to be true.
Listen to it:
Iraqi National Security Adviser Mowaffak al-Rubaie also remarked, “We would not accept any memorandum of understanding with [the U.S.] side that has no obvious and specific dates for the foreign troops’ withdrawal from Iraq.”
But they did not say timetables. They said obvious and specific dates for the withdrawl of foreign troops from Iraq. See, all different.
July 9th, 2008 at 6:02 pmJohn McCain’s terrible Tuesday continues into Wednesday…
July 9th, 2008 at 6:05 pmThis old fool is seriously out of touch with what most of us consider reality. I’m not sure of the cause, his years of torture, his privileged upbringing, or his enormous wealth (via his wife), or perhaps its senile dementia.
July 9th, 2008 at 6:06 pmJesus H. Christ – what a friggin’ BUFFOON.
July 9th, 2008 at 6:08 pmReporter: “Senator McCain, you’re a septuagenarian running for president…”
McCain: “That’s not true.”
Reporter: “Senator, you ARE a septuagenarian.”
McCain: “I consider such talk as an attack on my integrity, my friends.” Now, where’s that *%@# Cindy? TRowelling on the makeup again?”
July 9th, 2008 at 6:10 pmLeave the old coot alone, he can barely remember the last time someone changed his depends let alone what the Iraqi’s said last week, this week, and hour ago…
July 9th, 2008 at 6:10 pmI know we make fun of Mcsames age and his lack of stability, but I truly thinks he ‘hears’ what he believes he ‘hears’. He is that out of his mind. The Iraqi government – over two days, by two separate government officials – has said their agreement will/must have a date certain for us to leave.
But that doesn’t serve to help McSame win the WH, so he lies to the Low Information Voters (LIV) and they sit back and accept his words as gospel. Of course the MSM won’t ask McSame to explain this quite obvious falsehood – for he is ‘Maverick’.
July 9th, 2008 at 6:11 pmIraqi National Security Adviser Mowaffak al-Rubaie also remarked, “We would not accept any memorandum of understanding with [the U.S.] side that has no obvious and specific dates for the foreign troops’ withdrawal from Iraq.”
It’s just a misunderstanding. Since McCain plans to keep US troops in Iraq permanently, he no longer considers them to be “foreign troops”. After he is elected he will rename the US Army. It will be called the Iraq National Guard.
July 9th, 2008 at 6:12 pmThom Hartmann said it best today.. The MIC is really the Military Industrialized Media Government Complex.
McCain=Bush will get away with the LIES as the media, protecting their corporate interests will cover this up. The real question is
Are there enough out there seeing through the media LIES, or will the media prevail and shoe in their candidate?
July 9th, 2008 at 6:12 pmThese repub clowns do this all the time. Deny the obvious and hope no one questions. This is right out the Karl Rove playbook. He is counting on stupid people to just accept his words. The Iraqis said it two days in a row and its just killing him because his whole Iraq stance is going up in flames now.
July 9th, 2008 at 6:16 pmI know the Iraqi’s don’t want a timetable because McCain never told them to want one.
July 9th, 2008 at 6:19 pm::::::late breaking story:::::: on faux snooze tonight must be new evidence has turned up about a missing white chick in Aruba since, you know they wouldn’t report on the Iraqi’s kicking us out with a ten foot pole.
July 9th, 2008 at 6:19 pmPoor McDepends; he may be whistling by the graveyard on this one; he may lose out on his ‘little war’. If so, what does he have to run on, his intelligence?
July 9th, 2008 at 6:22 pmWTF? Read Maliki’s lips! He has stated unequivocally that without a withdrawal timeline, there won’t be a SOFA agreement.
July 9th, 2008 at 6:24 pmWhat part of un e qui vocal doesn’t McIIIrd understuckingfand?
McCain: “My usderstanding is that the Iraqis were not asking for a ‘timetable’..instead they were asking for a ‘poker table’”
July 9th, 2008 at 6:25 pmupside99 Says: “If so, what does he have to run on, his intelligence?”
Apparently being everyone’s “friend” like he’s running for queen on the prom. Just once I’d like to hear someone scream out from the audience, “I ain’t your friend, you sack of crap”.

Yep. How about JonBenet Ramsey?
*sigh*
July 9th, 2008 at 6:28 pmNotice also that the Iraqis are asking for specific dates.
They want a hard date of when we plan to withdraw.
“Iraq will reject any security pact with the United States unless it contains a specific timetable for the withdrawal of US-led foreign forces, the national security advisor said on Tuesday.
“We will not accept any memorandum of understanding if it does not give a specific date for a complete withdrawal of foreign troops,” Muwaffaq al-Rubaie told reporters in the Shiite holy city of Najaf.
However, Republican White House candidate John McCain warned security conditions must dictate troop withdrawals from Iraq.
Iraq’s national security adviser says his country will not accept any deal with the United States unless the agreement sets specific dates for the withdrawal of US-led forces.
The comments by Mouwaffak Al Rubaie come a day after Iraq’s prime minister first said publicly that he expects the pending troop deal with the United States to have some type of timetable for withdrawal.
President Bush has said he opposes a timetable.
Al-Rubaie told reporters Tuesday the country “will not accept any memorandum of understanding that doesn’t have specific dates to withdraw foreign forces.”
They are also asking for a complete withdrawal.
July 9th, 2008 at 6:30 pmOT, but our friendly Stock market just sucked another coupla grand out of your 401K today, DOW down 237, Nasdaq off nearly 60 and S&P -29.
Heckuva depression we’re heading into, and still pissing away 12 billion a month. Now that’s a loada urine.
July 9th, 2008 at 6:31 pmShouldn’t there be some kind of law against lying when people’s lives are at stake? Oh, that’s right… enforceable laws are only for poor people. Nevermind.

He’s just waiting for enough pressure to put on maliki so that he caves…..again and says he was misunderstood, he didn’t mean that, he misspoke, the media got it wrong, that other guy didn’t know anything etc.
July 9th, 2008 at 6:36 pmPerhaps he’s planning on his lover George nuking the whole region so he won’t have to worry about it?
July 9th, 2008 at 6:39 pmMcCain must of missed the big news where the Iraqi Prime Minister demanded that the U.S set a timetable for withdrawal. Alzheimers??? :-(

Apparently being everyone’s “friend” like he’s running for queen on the prom. Just once I’d like to hear someone scream out from the audience, “I ain’t your friend, you sack of crap”.
Now that’s funny. I would love to see something like that.
On the other hand, I think he may not be saying that as often because I don’t recall hearing him say it lately. But, it would also have to do with the fact that I hit the fast forward button every time I see his ugly mug.
Has he given up saying “my friends”?
July 9th, 2008 at 7:02 pmThey are also asking for a complete withdrawal.
They also said “no permanent bases”. I think that Congress needs to pass a law amending the last Iraq appropriation bill saying that no funds can be used to build permanent bases (or any bases). I seriously resent wasting my money like that. I resent even more my taxpayer money going to Iraqi insurgents as a reward for not shooting at our guys.
July 9th, 2008 at 7:05 pmMemo to delusional McCain– uh, yes, they are!
July 9th, 2008 at 7:41 pmIs he really this stupid?
Which raises an interesting question, Bilbo. What percentage of casualties can be attributed to arms we supplied? We know there are a couple hundred thousand small arms unaccounted for, how much C4 have we lost?
The policy of arming all sides in a civil conflict challenges the stupidest military blunders in U.S. history.

July 9th, 2008 at 7:41 pm
Yes. He is.
July 9th, 2008 at 7:47 pmSo McCain, what about the 10’s of thousands of Iraqi’s on the street protesting the US occupation (see link) or if they want us why are the Iraqi’s still attacking us?
http://www.indybay.org/newsitems/2008/05/31/18503291.php
July 9th, 2008 at 7:55 pmIt IS out of the Rove playbook: McCain has learned well: Lie like a rug–create your own reality–and the old MSM won’t touch you. Gutless press, spineless, even complicit, Democratic Congress, including, today, Obama…
Huey Long woulda loved the state of the nation as it is today.
July 9th, 2008 at 8:41 pmActually, McCain’s plan for balancing the budget and fixing Social Security is to rent out the US Army, the Navy, the Marines, and the Air Force to the Iraqis. If it goes well, he’ll rent out the armed forces to the highest bidder. Kind of like how states are selling toll roads to foreign corporations and sovereign wealth funds. Of course, McCain hasn’t really figured out if the U.S. Armed forces can compete with the likes of Blackwater, but he figures it’s worth a shot.
July 9th, 2008 at 8:42 pmHas anybody started keeping track of all the times McCain has flatly denied something that is, in fact, true?
July 9th, 2008 at 8:45 pmIt is not just this inability to hear what the Iraqis are saying when they ask for a US troop withdrawal timetable; McCain demonstrated today in an interview with Brian Williams of NBC news that he just does not comprehend the players in the Middle East.
When asked about the potential impact of an Iranian attack on Israel, McCain proceeded to mumble that, “of course, Iraq would have to respond”.
When he started his reply, he seemed about to say “Iran” but then he attempted to correct himself and produced the word “Iraq”. Now, of course, Iraq is non-sensical in the context of an Iranian attack on Israel, but no one called him on it.
Just what are we looking for as an electorate before we say that age and injury have combined to make McCain little more than bluster – at best.
Why will no one even broach the question: is McCain to disable by age to be President of the United States of America?
July 9th, 2008 at 9:28 pmHe’s right – They’re not asking for a time table -
THEY WANT US OUT NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!
July 9th, 2008 at 10:38 pm“The Iraqis are not asking for a timetable for withdrawal.”
“The Iraqis have not formally asked for a timetable for withdrawing our troops.”
That’s their talking point and they are sticking to it.
You can do a Youtube search and her every loyal Bushie in the administration and the media repeat this talking point verbatim. It’s amazing how efficient they are at distributing their marching orders.
So, just because Maliki is saying that the Iraqi government expects a commitment to withdraw American forces from Iraq doesn’t mean the Iraqi government expects a commitment to withdraw American forces from Iraq, after all, they haven’t FORMALLY requested that American forces withdraw from Iraq.
See? Simple.
July 9th, 2008 at 11:55 pmUh…yes, they are.
So, I take it you’re taking Delusionol like Bush and his buddies, too, huh?
That explains it, then.
(P.S. Delusionol is a made-up drug that is a running joke among some bloggers to make light of the non-reality Bush and several other corrupt politicians seem to live in. Just thought I’d clear that up, lol.)
July 10th, 2008 at 4:19 amMcCain is as usual wrong. I am amazed how he hears only what he wants to. They did ask for a time table. Twice.
McCain does so hate to leave any war alone. And of course don’t look for the media to point out this lapse anymore then they have any of his other gaffes. McCain is able to say so many crazy things, things that make no sense, things that differ sometimes days away from what he said before. Evidently the media loves this old, confused man.
If it were not so pathetic, it would be funny. But simply thinking about this man near the whitehouse scares me to death.
