Perino Demands Apology After Boxer Calls Out White House For Lying About Cheney’s Global Warming Editing

perinobushembrace.jpgThis week, in a letter to Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-CA), former White House official Jason Burnett revealed that Vice President Cheney’s office deleted portions of the testimony of Center for Disease Control Director Julie Gerberding, who testified last year about the consequences of climate change on public health. In a press conference yesterday, Boxer charged that White House spokesperson Dana Perino had “lied” about the rationale behind the editing of the testimony:

BOXER: As I understand it, she said, the draft information did not comport with that, the science that was in the IPCC report. This was a lie. And we proved it before. We had in the last press conference we did on this.

Talking to reporters today, White House Press Secretary Dana Perino shot back, demanding an apology from Boxer for accusing her of lying:

PERINO: I have never said such a thing about a fellow public servant, and I wouldn’t if I didn’t have all the facts. I think I deserve an apology.

In reality, however, Boxer is right that the White House did not tell the truth about the evisceration of Gerberding’s testimony. Initially, Perino denied accusations that the testimony was edited, claiming it was not “watered down” — a blatant distortion given Burnett’s revelations. As Boxer noted, in October 2007, Perino claimed:

PERINO: But when you take a very complicated issue, like climate change science, and you have the International Panel on Climate Change, which reported last spring — this is a study that the United States largely funded, and that we embraced in its conclusions — as I understand it, in the draft there was broad characterizations about climate change science that didn’t align with the IPCC.

But Burnett explained to Boxer that the reason for the cuts was to “keep options open” for the EPA to avoid triggering immediate consequences for polluters emitting greenhouse gases — not because of White House concerns over the “accuracy of the science.”

Nevertheless, the White House spin continues. Today, spokesperson Tony Fratto claimed, “There’s absolutely nothing unusual here in terms of the inter-agency review process.” But as a CDC official said in October, the changes made to Gerberding’s testimony were particularly “heavy-handed.”

Unlike her former boss Scott McClellan, it seems that Perino simply hasn’t realized that the White House Press Secretary is sent out to cover up for Dick Cheney’s lies.

  2. Jess Wonderin says:

Boxer only spoke the truth . . . too bad you don’t

“Lier” . . . live with it – it is part of the Bush Co job description for your position and SOP for the WH.

  3. wisedup says:

  4. artmann11 says:

    Go to hell b-b-b-b itch.

  5. hivanh says:

Sometimes I have to stop and wonder if anyone really knows what the truth is or is not anymore.Of course there is a mountain of evidence to back up Boxer, et.al. I would hate to think that Perino might really be that stupid, but that role was fulfilled admirably by “Little Scotty” McClellan, before.

I don’t have any idea what they make people drink once they enter the service of Bush/Cheney, but it must be powerful stuff. It makes people say damn near anything…at least twice and then deny it.

Dubya must have pictures of everybody’s Mother doing something really bad.Now I guess I know why all this domestic surveillance stuff is so important.

    BOXER: LOL!

  7. eve says:

Dana, I suppose what Boxer should have said is that you are either a liar or an idiot.

I think the answer is both.

  8. web_geek says:

    Pants on fire!

    LOL!

  9. steal_my_vote says:

“a fellow public servant”!?! I guess technically our tax dollars pay your salary but don’t arrogantly put yourself in the same league as a legitimately elected official. You’re just a shill for a corrupted branch of government. Blah…

  10. bigeugene says:

All this Whitehouse does is lie.

  12. questioneverything says:

Perino has no morals and has no moral ground to stand on. I am proud of Boxer for saying what needs to be said. Perino is a paid liar. That makes her better than everyone else?

  13. kasinca says:

If Dana Perino believes an apology for someone telling the truth is in order, I believe that aLL the liars in the Bush Crime Family should be apologizing for all the lies they tell on a daily basis. Dana is a liar because of the office she holds repeating the lies of Dubya and Cheney et al.

  14. The Shadow says:

Dana Purino has a lot of nerve. How can you sell dog food and call it ok for human consumption. I mean this idiot thinks the President can cause it to rain on command. She is either a lying idiot or the biggest fool to ever come down the pike. If she believes the bullzhit she’s trying to sell, then I got some ocean front propery in Missouri I’d like to sell her. Dana what you really need to be doing is trying to find a job. Apparently Dubya didn’t tell you that it’s all over in November. Dana that’s November 2008, not 2012. You won’t have a job come January or aren’t you smart enough to figure that part out. Tell them you want to spend more time with your family and move on. Don’t you realize that the longer you stay there and act like Baghdad Bob, the worst your chances are of gettting a job. Only you and Bob could deny the obvious, and most companies don’t want that. My bad, that’s exactly what most companies want these days. I guess you are a lot smarter than you look. I knew I shouldn’t have judged you by the dumb look on your face when you lie.

  15. Progressive101 says:

Perino expects all to transcribe without question. Her first loyalty is to the President, not the country or constitution. This has been the history of the Bush press secretaries, and maybe others before.

  16. VerbalKint says:

The stench of the Bush administration and the stench of her own lying will dog Perino for the rest of her life.

  17. wizard2000 says:

Everytime Perino bends forward at the waist to touch her shoes, her nose touches the top of her shoes at the same time.

  18. Game of Life says:

Typical RE-PUKE thinking on this one,

    LIES,

    LIES, AND MORE LIES,

they just don`t know when to stop,do they?

  21. moondancer says:

Perino, a professional liar, doesn’t get to even pretend outrage at someone else. Perino is a bullshit person, working for a more bullshit person. She can apologize for a couple of decades and then maybe can fake outrage.

  22. curmudgeon says:

If James Stockdale (Ross Perot’s running mate in 1992) were still around, wouldn’t Stockdale be the perfect running mate for McCain? They would surely be nicknamed the Dynamic Duo.

The following two paragraphs are excerpted from a New York Times article about Stockdale, which can be found at:
    http://www.nytimes.com/2005/07/06/politics/06stockdale.html?ex=1278302400&en=b4e623b4d2f9c48c&ei=5088&partner=rssnyt&emc=rss.

A winner of the Medal of Honor, Admiral Stockdale was shot down over North Vietnam on Sept. 9, 1965. He spent seven and a half years as a prisoner, four of them in solitary confinement. While a prisoner, he organized a culture of defiance among his fellow captives, including another naval aviator, John McCain, who went on to become a senator from Arizona and a presidential candidate.

Admiral Stockdale seemed out of his league in the debate with the major party vice presidential candidates, Dan Quayle and Al Gore. He startled the audience and those watching on television with his opening remarks: “Who am I? Why am I here?”

Sorry, this comment was intended for a different story.

  24. Bozo The Neoclown says:

Luckily for Ms. Purina dog chow I’m not Barbara Boxer since my apology would be, “I am sorry that you destroyed any chances of you having a real career by whoring yourself out to lying scumbags”.

  25. Clumberfeet says:

As an American citizen I think I deserve an apology.

  26. DallasNE says:

My but Perino is a sensitive one. Especially for someone having such low morals. She constantly disregards the truth then concocts a line of bullshit that makes the jaw drop. On top of that, she is rude beyond belief. Just check out how she responds to Eric Brewer sometime. Perino owes the American people an apology for her own uninformed performance. She is a total disgrace.

  27. IgnoranceIsNotBliss says:

I don’t think anyone should have to apologize for telling the truth.

  28. A Patriot Acting says:

Perino: “I think I deserve an apology.”

No Dana, you rightfully deserve to be called a liar everywhere you go for the rest of your life! You fully deserve to be called a liar by the entire WH press corps on a daily basis. It must make your job that much easier to have a complicit press corps that laps up your bull shit like it was chocolate milk and regurgitates it back to the public without question. It’s funny how you act so surprised when every rare once in a while someone calls you out on one of your daily lies. How dare they!

  29. tomcat27834 says:

CLUELESS: Dana Perino was CLUELESS as to what the Bay of Pigs fiasco in Cuba was about. Can you imagine that someone who speaks on behalf of the president of the free world would be CLUELESS about historical events that have impact world events? Ahhh, Bush and Perino ie., “dumb and dumber”…..Boxer appologize for exposing the lies by Cheney and his minions? Go to hell Perino.

  30. bogtrotters says:

If lies were johns and press secretaries were whores…oh, wait! Press secetaries are whores! Never mind!

  32. upside99 says:

Dana Puppy Chow Purina will wait til Hell freezes over before Boxer apologizes. What a total be-otch!

  33. ThomasMc says:

    Of course Perino’s a liar.
    She’s a Republican, isn’t she?

  34. Ditch Mitch KY says:
