This morning on NBC’s Meet the Press, Carly Fiorina, surrogate for Sen. John McCain (R-AZ), defended McCain’s record on Iraq. She insisted he had stood up to President Bush and former Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld repeatedly, and declared those who say McCain was “aligned” with Bush on Iraq are trying to “change history”:
John McCain stood up against George Bush and Don Rumsfeld in the prosecution of the Iraq war for many years. … To say that John McCain was aligned with President Bush on the prosecution of the war in Iraq is to change history.
Watch it:
It is Fiorina who is trying to change history. From the very start, McCain has enthusiastically embraced Bush’s Iraq war policy:
“I think that Blix’s report will be fairly definitive. But Mr. Blix has made a lot of reports over the years, and I think the judgment made by the United States of America will — and the president of the United States — will prevail here.” [NBC, 2/12/03]
“I believe as strongly today as ever, the mission [in Iraq] was necessary, achievable and noble. For his determination to undertake it, and for his unflagging resolve to see it through to a just end, President Bush deserves not only our support, but our admiration.” [GOP Convention, 8/30/04]
“The fact is that I have agreed with President Bush far more than I have disagreed. And on the transcendent issues, the most important issues of our day, I’ve been totally in agreement and support of President Bush.” [Meet the Press, 6/19/05]
MR. GREGORY: Do you, do you have confidence in the president and his national security team to lead the war at this stage?
SEN. McCAIN: I do. I do. I have confidence in the president and I believe that he is well aware of the severity of the situation. [Meet the Press, 8/20/06]“I’m sticking with the president in this respect [on Iraq]. This is our last chance. The consequences of failure are catastrophic.” [CNN, 2/13/07]
“I am proud of this president’s strategy in Iraq.” [Receiving Bush's endorsement, 2/13/08]
In fact, just four months ago, McCain declared unequivocally, “No one has supported President Bush on Iraq more than I have.”
This woman is one of the best liars I've ever seen! You can't lie for a living and remain healthy.
July 13th, 2008 at 1:23 pmShe knows the war is unpopular. She knows what unpopular feels like.
July 13th, 2008 at 1:24 pmSo McSame wasn't aligned with Bush on Iraq?
McSame OPPOSED the invasion?
I must have missed that. This new information makes me look at McSame in an entirely new way.
July 13th, 2008 at 1:30 pmmccains disinformation machine. Throw enough confusion out there and maybe no one will know what I really did.
July 13th, 2008 at 1:34 pmMcCain-Bushco keep forgetting that there are such futuristic devices as video and audio recorders. And then the tubes of the internets that archive such recordings forever. What planet are they on exactly?
July 13th, 2008 at 1:41 pmMs. Fiorina cleverly stated that Sen McCain was not alligned with President Bush on the PROSECUTION of the war in Iraq.
Every one now agrees that Rumsfeld's Prosecution of the War, with not enough troops,no World support, and no backup plan after Saddam was toppled, was a Mistake.
What Sen. McCain needs to address is whether Invading Iraq was a Mistake in the first place. We know where Obama stood on this issue...he warned that attacking Iraq WAS a mistake.
Sen. McCain ??? The Press ???
July 13th, 2008 at 1:41 pmCarly Fiorina has found religion. She augered in as a CEO but as a purveyor of right wing spin and junk truth she excels. She's solidly in the Karen Hughes and Condoleezza Rice model of unquestioning hero worship and she blindly catapults the talking points regardless of how absurd they obviously are.
She bit the apple. She's one of them.
July 13th, 2008 at 1:42 pmIt seems to me the mainstream media are the only ones taking this campaign seriously.
July 13th, 2008 at 1:43 pmand did the master, tom brokaw, let her get away with that?
July 13th, 2008 at 1:46 pmI have a serious question for ryou guys.
Why do you trust Obama more then you trust yourselves?
July 13th, 2008 at 1:47 pmThe same old kool- aid yields the same old results, lie after lie........
Our MSM is as sympathetic to the re-pukes as ever.....
July 13th, 2008 at 1:48 pmwho told you that, hack?
July 13th, 2008 at 1:49 pmold_hack Says:
I have a serious question for ryou guys.
Why do you trust Obama more then you trust yourselves?
Stupidest question of the day.
July 13th, 2008 at 1:49 pmI trust Obama more than a Republican, but more than my self?
Put down that whiskey bottle, old hack.
To say that John McCain was aligned with President Bush on the prosecution of the war in Iraq is to change history.
Consider the source for this gem--carly fiorina, who ran hp so well she was forced out of the company.
July 13th, 2008 at 1:51 pmWhat was the response of the moderator to call this b___h out on her lies? Was there a loop of tape highlighting the inconsistent statements by McCain? - I bet not.
The Republicans lie (not just exaggerate but real, slimy, disgusting, Hitlerian Big Lies) with impunity. I will review the Meet the Press show this evening when I have a computer with audio. But my guess is that there was not a real peep from our moderator. We will also fail to see any response from the rest of our MSM.
It is time for these moderators and their companies to pay a significant price for their crimes.
July 13th, 2008 at 1:52 pmOld hack, for one thing, I don't trust myself any farther than I can throw myself. Also, I'm pretty sure my chances of being elected are pretty low.
July 13th, 2008 at 2:04 pmOh that's so special......
Like saying both Bush and McCain were for robbing the bank, but McCain should be adored and elected president because he preferred a different method than Bush to kill the people in the bank.
July 13th, 2008 at 2:07 pmWhy pay any attention to this felon, Fiorina?
July 13th, 2008 at 2:19 pmFiorina is just going around the country lying to people about McCain's positions. She did this previously re: Roe v. Wade.
She needs to be stopped. this is worse than Phil Gramm who was merely insulting. Fiorina is telling groups of voters outright lies to get their support.
All the more reason to Just Say NOPE to John McCain.
July 13th, 2008 at 2:24 pm.
Fiorina is McCain's economic adviser, right? So when did she become an "expert" on his policy re: Iraq??
July 13th, 2008 at 2:27 pmI'd like her definition of prosecution. Is it this (dictionary.com)?
The continuance of something begun with a view to its completion.
Bush wants to stay in Iraq. McCain...wants to stay in Iraq.
She must've pulled her own definition out of her *ss.
July 13th, 2008 at 2:32 pmWhy shouldn't a dishonest, failed CEO become a dishonest, failed political advisor?
July 13th, 2008 at 2:36 pmThey want us OUT, Georgie and McSame want us to stay. What is wrong with these people?
July 13th, 2008 at 2:37 pmGuido,
Yes, it looks bad using IE. But it works fine if you use Firefox. I've e-mailed TP about it, but they rarely respond to my e-mails. Perhaps you'll have better luck with them.
July 13th, 2008 at 2:43 pmI don't think the politicians or their surrogates have quite figured out how quickly informantion and disinformation can be disiminated on the internet. I mean that for both parties. It is a new situation. They are used to the old way of using the television to say whatever they want without anyone being able to question them or to prove them wrong within minutes of their lies. Remember John McCain calls the media "his base". He's used to their going along to get along and their not doing their jobs so they can sit in his extra special seat for interviews. He nor his surrogates are not used to people calling him a liar when he lies and being able to prove it, making him look like an ass time and time again.
To be fair though, I think this aspect of the internet has surprised the democratic candidate as well. Obama counted on democrats to continue giving him those hundreds of thousands of small donations, because they believed in him. I think it was a major miscalculation to believe that he could then turn his back on the promises he made in the primaries, and people would continue to send in money. I think he is learning to the power of the people. They aren't like the major corporations who give the maximum amount in hopes that you will do what they want. These little people give a little now and a little later when they see that you are still carrying their message. The overwhelming number of fervent Obama supporters felt absolutely betrayed by his FISA vote and other turn arounds, and the money slowed to a trickle. It's a new world, and politicians are going to have to learn to navigate it.
July 13th, 2008 at 2:44 pmJohn McCain stood up against George Bush and Don Rumsfeld in the prosecution of the Iraq war for many years
~Carly Fiorina
I don't even know what to say to this. Fiorina cannot possibly believe her own clap trap.
On the upside, Fiorina (and possibly McCain and Republicans in general as well) realise the occupation of Iraq not only is deeply unpopular, it is an absolute disaster, and they keep running away as fast as they can from Pres Bush and his sorry "legacy".
So much for the Beloved (mis)Leader's great presidency.
July 13th, 2008 at 2:46 pmI watched this wicked witch of the RePugniScum party this a.m. and realized how she got to the top of HP...It weren't her brains!!!
Nor her good looks...
It was a complete undying dedication to Corporate, RePugniScum Fascism!!!
And complete hatred of the working people and democracy and The Constitution.
What an EVIL, EVIL, woman!!
July 13th, 2008 at 2:54 pmOur illegal criminal occupations of Afghanistan and Iraq are severe violations of international laws. Every American in both Afghanistan and Iraq is a war criminal. Get out.
July 13th, 2008 at 2:56 pmGuido: Yes I'm having the same problem with my IE. I was thinking maybe some (or most) of those 1500 trolls had gotten into the server and were filling up the sectors on the disc pushing the info on the right hand side of the page overtop the articles.
July 13th, 2008 at 2:58 pmAlso, if this doesn't conclusively prove that the first and foremost requirement to becoming a successful Republican politician is to be a shameless, transparent liar, I don't know what does.
Carly Fiorina: Bad for HP. Bad for the country.
July 13th, 2008 at 3:01 pmOk, did Brokaw let her off the hook or did he give examples of how McCain is following in Bush's footsteps on Iraq? Also, why didn't Brokaw ask her to give some examples of how McCain stood up to Bush and Rumsfield. It really frustrates me that these talking heads don't challenge McCain or his representatives.
July 13th, 2008 at 3:04 pmMcLame can't even remember what day it is, that's why he has people to "speak" for him so often.
Then if they lie, he'll claim he "never said that".
Fcuk him.
July 13th, 2008 at 3:04 pmWhy would you use IE in the first place? I only have it on the PC because there are very rare instances where Firefox doesn't work properly on a page. Otherwise, yeeesh.
July 13th, 2008 at 3:05 pmold_hack Says:
I have a serious question for ryou guys.
Why do you trust Obama more then you trust yourselves?
I have a question for you old_hack. WTF are you talking about? How are we trusting Obama more than we trust ourselves?
July 13th, 2008 at 3:06 pmFiorina’s public reassurance to a group of former Hillary Rodham Clinton supporters in Columbus, Ohio, raised hackles after she said the Arizona senator “has never signed on to efforts to overturn Roe v. Wade.”
Actually, what they are doing is quite clever. She is right, McCain has never "signed on to" efforts to overturn Roe v Wade. He never "signed" a piece of paper saying that was what he wanted to do. He said that, but he didn't "sign" it.
The sames goes for her statement that "John McCain stood up against George Bush and Don Rumsfeld in the prosecution of the Iraq war for many years"
McCain did complain occasionally about there not being enough troops on the ground so technically she is correct, he did disagree with the "prosecution" of the war.
But, none of her splitting hairs is going to convince the public that McCain's position on Iraq is any different than Bush's. Everyone knows that is true.
The splitting hairs on Roe v Wade is a little more problematic. That is part of his "maverick" image and it hasn't been disputed to the low-information voters. That's why Obama needs to get cracking on 1 minute advertisements quoting McCain saying one thing and then later, something entirely different. As long as the public still views McCain as a "maverick", he will continue to poll within a few percentage points of Obama.
July 13th, 2008 at 3:12 pmThese little people give a little now and a little later when they see that you are still carrying their message. The overwhelming number of fervent Obama supporters felt absolutely betrayed by his FISA vote and other turn arounds, and the money slowed to a trickle. It’s a new world, and politicians are going to have to learn to navigate it.
And this is how it should be. Obama was pushing the message that he was answerable to "we the people" and not to the corporations and the Washington politicians. Unfortunately that turned out not to be true. He absolutely turned his back on his base and it has come back to bite him in the a$$. I think that is why he hasn't released his fundraising numbers for June. I suspect they are way down and will be down even more in July. So what is Obama going to do now? He has turned down public financing and lost his base. That means he can either get his base back or he can turn to the corporations and lobbyists he said he would never take contributions from. How did he miscalculate so badly?
July 13th, 2008 at 3:17 pmTo say Carly was an effective leader of HP or was not drummed out for corporate espionage on her watch is to change history.
She, like so many of McSame's advisors, is there to make him look less senile and ridiculous by saying more ridiculous things than the candidate.
July 13th, 2008 at 3:22 pmGuido,
It started with the "McCain on the computer" thread. Up until they posted that item, it worked fine. It has been messed up ever since. I expect they'll get it fixed by Friday.
July 13th, 2008 at 3:52 pmBilbo Hussein Baggins Says: How did he miscalculate so badly?
Didn't he hire HRC advisors after she suspended her campaign? Sounds like their advice. Bt it did work for her, or for Dukasis, or Kerry, or really Bill Clinton who might have lost if not for Perot...
It was a strategic blunder. Newsweek showed his lead over McCain slipped from 15% to 3% since his FISA stance.
Will be interesting to see what he does now.
July 13th, 2008 at 4:03 pmgov. sanford

July 13th, 2008 at 4:05 pm"But it didn't work"
July 13th, 2008 at 4:07 pmIs Carly auditioning to replace Dana Puppy Chow Purina?
If so, she is getting the BS spreading down to a science.
July 13th, 2008 at 4:53 pmShe butchered e-bay, now she butchers history. Maybe she missed Krusty in his cheerleader outfit proclaiming we'll beat those oily arabs and be home three months tops. And that was after the three weeks tops. But before the six months tops. The only thing he complained about in the first year was wanting more troops, he never critiqued the non-strategy post occupation. Never.
July 13th, 2008 at 5:11 pmFiorina is VERY ego-centric. She will do anything to forward herself. She is expecting something big in return. That she is working for McCain is another reason, if I needed one, to not vote for McCain. Fiorina would do to the country what she did to a once great company.
July 13th, 2008 at 5:14 pmIf you want to read more about the traitor, loser Carly Fiorina here's your link:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carly_Fiorina
Here's a tidbit...
"Hewlett-Packard's stock jumped 7% on news of her departure"
Just another loser RePugniScum!!!!
July 13th, 2008 at 5:22 pmAmerica's stock will jump 4000% when Botch is gone!
July 13th, 2008 at 5:24 pmDon,t forget everyone. Fiorina was fired from her last job because of poor perfomance. So what else would anyone expect from incompetence, and incompetent statement!!!
July 13th, 2008 at 5:54 pmDoes anyone really care what this loser has to say?
July 13th, 2008 at 5:57 pmask yourself are minorities better off without us having national federal ballot initiative law?
July 13th, 2008 at 6:06 pmI wonder who put McCain's meds in her chai latte?
July 13th, 2008 at 6:40 pmNot one discussion today on the McCain burp over viagra and contraception. Wasn't this started over Fiorina comments? There she is on MTP and the subject doesn't even come up there?
July 13th, 2008 at 7:19 pmOkay- this woman is obviously delusional/insane. Other than Fox "News" robots, will anyone really accept her lies? Good Lord, she is a total buffoon.
July 13th, 2008 at 8:58 pmYeah, Carly....and another way to change history is to say you did a good job as CEO of Hewlitt-Packard.
July 13th, 2008 at 10:28 pmOT
July 13th, 2008 at 10:55 pmAnyone having trouble with the site tonight? The right hand column is pasted over the left side -- can't read the first three threads.
Carley crashed a billiom dollar company and walked away with $45 MILLION, tells outrageous lies with a straight face . . . great BushCo training to attached herself to the McSame Badmininistration
July 13th, 2008 at 10:55 pmI don't think there are many HP people who have kind thoughts about Fiorina. She was a drag on HP. Her personality is abrasive.
July 13th, 2008 at 11:07 pmAs for McCain and history -- she either didn't keep herself informed a few years ago - or she has failed to discuss any of this with McCain -- their stories do not line up -- that's what happens when you don't tell the truth. You can't keep your stories straight.

July 13th, 2008 at 11:10 pmDon't expect much in the way of controversy or contradiction from MTP when it comes to the Republican party. Russert always made Democrats jump through hoops, and pounced on their every word -- it was a rare occasion when he did that to a Republican - and when he did, it couldn't comapre to what he did to Democrats.
The MTP tradition continues.
Rethuglicans have never found a lie they wouldn't tell. These are dishonest thugs.
July 14th, 2008 at 12:03 amSo if McCain was not aligned with Bush. Why wasn't John "Unpatriotic"?
To this day, Sen Chuck Hagel (Ne) was much more outspoken and direct of mishandling the war and proposing solutions. But Sen. Hagel is treated as a bad case of rabies by his party to this day.
Why the difference?
July 14th, 2008 at 2:35 amHey Old hacker,
Why do you trust McSame more than you trust Elmer Fudd?
July 14th, 2008 at 8:24 amMore proof that Rove is running the campaign. Lie and lie and lie and lie and lie and lie. The former most powerful woman executive is just another faceless Rove drone now. Bet she's proud. Anyway, I hear that Obama's finally bringing Rove into some anti- McCain ads. the Obama guys need to pound the Rove- McCain connection. It's a big winner.
