Early on Saturday morning, former White House press secretary Tony Snow passed away from colon cancer at the age of 53. In an essay on Newsweek.com, Center for American Progress Senior Fellow Elizabeth Edwards writes about how she was diagnosed with a recurrence of her own cancer within days of Snow’s diagnosis last year. Edwards reveals how Snow’s death serves as a poignant reminder of her own mortality and of the things that really matter in life:
Tony Snow has died. And lots of people who valued the same things Tony did — a family well-loved and work well-done — have died and will die of colon cancer, those who have preceded Tony and those who will follow him. Can’t we start with something easy on which we can agree? That no one should die of a disease we can find and stop?
Can we make EE the First Lady regardless of who wins the presidency?
July 14th, 2008 at 7:25 pmThis morning at the meeting for the nations Governors the Gov. of Delaware was pointed out as having cut the number of people dying of Cancer in her state by half. That is quite a remarkable feat wouldn't you say ? She took only one simple step to save those lives that should of been done years ago.
She passed a law saying everyone in Del. will get complete Cancer treatment no what their income level or ability to pay for it. Yes, until that program was put into effect half the people in Del. died because they were poor, not because they were sick.
July 14th, 2008 at 7:30 pmElizabeth Edwards is truly a classy lady...Her husband would be a great president...Blessings
July 14th, 2008 at 7:38 pmJOHN EDWARDS, I'M AFRAID YOUR COUNTRY NEEDS YOU MORE THAN YOU WILL EVER KNOW.

Is that support for stem cell research? I hope so...
July 14th, 2008 at 8:01 pmClassy thing to say, classy lady. Thank you, Mrs. Edwards.
July 14th, 2008 at 8:11 pmYes, very classy indeed.
July 14th, 2008 at 9:04 pmSince I do not believe in heaven or hell. I just hope that before Tony passed, he was able to reconcile with himself privately, in his own way.
My condolences to his family.
I think John Edwards would be an excellant Secretary of State!

For some reason I don’t think that Liz Edwards can make a disinterested comment on how we should go about policy pertaining to, and the channeling resources into, cancer research and treatment.
Is there some point I am missing here?

Did you miss the point that the Mr. Pee is a troll and a blathering idiot?
Hey, troll.... Mr. Pee.... you Still believe Saudis are not Muslim because they are our "allies"?
July 14th, 2008 at 10:43 pmWTP, I understand that aspect of it. I was referring to the fact that the P Troll was making a non-sequitor comment.
I was attempting to get it to qualify the comment with something meaningful. But as Wayne pointed out, just a blathering Idiot. My bad for realizing it.
Cheers

July 15th, 2008 at 1:30 amTony Snow was one of those odd Republicans I liked although I disagreed with him about most things political.
July 15th, 2008 at 5:58 amIt was not a classy thing for EE to do - it was the right and decent thing to do. Just because people hold disparate beliefs does not mean that we have to hate one another.
Also, with regard to Snow: there are many people who claim he was a traitor. These same people claim that everyone in his cabinet is a traitor as well as any person who has voted for Bush is a traitor. By this logic, wouldn't each and every dem representative who voted for the war also be a traitor?
July 15th, 2008 at 10:39 amLets tie this into the healthcare system.
For almost everyone, it is recommended on reaching 50 that they have a screening colon exam. The cost is several thousand dollars. The combination of the cost, the ability to put it off, and personal squeemishness lead many to put it off.
For the low wage uninsured, the cost is exhorbitant. And you can't use the ER as it isn't an emergency. Example, - someone making 6.50 an hour makes, before taxes, $ 13,500 per year so dropping $ 3,000 is unthinkable.
Yet many insurance companies pay for this proceedure as being preventative and cost saving.
How is the uninsured person going to get this done ?
July 15th, 2008 at 12:01 pmRemember all those times you people claimed that Tony Snow was faking his illness? You people are disgusting.
July 15th, 2008 at 12:07 pma woman of utmost class. now if the roles were reversed, the GOP would be singing "Ding, dong the witch is dead."
