Westboro planning protest at Tony Snow’s funeral.

Right-wing preacher Fred Phelps’s Westboro Baptist Church (WBC), an “anti-gay hate group,” is planning to picket former White House press secretary Tony Snow’s funeral. WBC members are upset because Snow was a “critic” of their operation and “a high-profile representative of godless Big Media and Big Government.” In the past, WBC has said that “war casualties are divine revenge for America tolerating gays and lesbians.”

    Hate is right…

Instead of worrying this nonsene and upsetting a grieving family, why don’t these religious nuts spend their time helping single mothers raise their children, feeding the homeless, fighting poverty, or other such useful things?

That hardwork of one is worth more than the prayers of a million.

  2. RobertSeattle says:

“Divine Revenge” – what an ignorant, pathetic, human created idea.

  3. WaltTheMan says:

If W makes an appearence, it would throw a monkey wrench in their plans. But, then, W does not do funerals.

  4. Zimzone says:

By best to Tony Snow’s family.

My worst to the Phelps family.

  5. unbelievable says:

It’s actually the most religious countries that have the highest rates of crime, murder, teenage pregnancy, STDs, infant mortality, etc.

Therefore, if we want to be a more peaceful and healthy nation, it’s organized religion that should be blamed and protested.

  6. barfly says:

    Christianity on parade.

What should happen, is they be confronted head on, by Christians who oppose their twisted version of the belief.

Onward Christian Soldiers, and reclaim your captured standard.

  7. dbadass says:

Yes jabberjaw but what does Nader have to say about all of this?

  8. j swift says:

#1 I would not want these people near single mothers or the homeless. These people are disturbed and the thought of them being people who actually need help is scary. These whack-a-doos need to be allowed to express themselves and practice their religion but they need to be watched because it would not surprise me that they would turn violent if give the right trigger. (shiver up spine).

  10. dbadass says:

I wonder if Daryll is feeling at all conflicted…

  11. RUCerious says:

Let me ask every single resident of Topeka Kansas to go to the next service at the Westboro Baptist church and shout God Hates Bigots at the top of your collective lungs.

    thank you.

  12. unbelievable says:

j swift Says: #1 I would not want these people near single mothers or the homeless.

My point was that these nuts fight for and against the wrong things, while doing nothing useful or humanitarian. Instead, they waste their time protesting non-issues that don’t impact anyone.

If they hate it here so much, then they should move to another country. Perhaps El Salvador where abortion is illegal in all cases and women who have back-alley abortions, even after being raped, spend 30 years in jail for doing so. It’s a terrible country as a result of its oppression of women, but the rabid religious nuts should feel right at home amid all the violence and oppression.

  13. RUCerious says:

dbadass, it’s clear that Daryll is a self loathing closeted gay. His only succor is to immerse himself in his phony baloney Pharasee church and condemn libs and gays while
‘quoting’ scripture to tell us not to judge.

  14. barfly says:

    jabberjaw Says:

Disagree with Snow’s politics or not, but this kind of hate is not progressive.

From someone whose first posts on this site contained the words, “america-hating,” I find this highly amusing.

  15. unbelievable says:

Last week Daryll said that he would be fine in life with nothing more than a cot and a hot (meal I assume), and then went on to brag about all the money he’s made investing in big oil. He then went on to say that he did not feel sorry for all of the people who are suffering right now. And then these religious freaks want to claim moral superiority…

  16. gummitch says:

My respect for Tony Snow actually went up a few notches; anyone who can inspire these dirtbags to protest his funeral has to have something going for him.

  17. Wayne says:

These fake “Christians” have no business protesting anyone’s funeral. I may not like Snow and what he did, but to do this to anyone’s family after losing a loved one is unspeakable and shows a total lack of what Christianity is supposed to be.

Fred Phelps and all the members of the Westboro Baptist Church should burn in that imaginary Hell, if it only existed…

  18. gummitch says:

    jabberjaw Says:

Shayne: Time to put on your Daryll hat and bring him out for a few posts.

You really are delusional, and not just about Nader.

  19. hanshiro says:

The first tenet of sociopaths like Westboro, republicans and politicians is to claim the moral position of your opponent while actively acting in the opposite, all the while claiming your actions lead to your opponent’s goal. (Remember McCain claiming Obama’s presidency would be a “bush 3rd term?”)

    War is peace.

    Hate is love.

    etc.

  20. Shayne says:

Jabberjaw you forgot you’re not a cheerleader for the administration anymore you’re all Nader all the time. And before getting all self righteous you were pretty happy when Ted Kennedy was diagnosed with a brain tumor.

  21. unbelievable says:

    Wayne,

m not certain, after reading the Catholic version of the bibles that these are real Christians, and that the ones who pick and choose, ignoring all the violence in the “good” book are really something else entirely – Buddhists for the good mood Christ perhaps.

Jesus, in Matthew 5:18-20 clearly supports the Old Testament brutality, and encourages his supporters to hate – in spite of the other Jesus who delivers the Sermon on the Mount.

  22. unbelievable says:

that these are NOT real Christians

  23. Shayne says:

Ssshhh JJ, don’t tell everybody I’m Daryll. It’s all very top secret, hush hush.

  24. RantingTommy says:

Pardon me for enjoying when they eat their own.

This is the nuts attacking the nuts for not being nutty enough.

  25. barfly says:

Since the thread is wandering, let me slip in, and say Perino was just questioned (with follow-us) by the press corp, about the weekend revelations regarding Bush library contributions. They asked for WH visitors’ logs, and were assured access to them, lawsuits permitting.

  26. Shayne says:

Christian or not what kind of human being has no empathy for the family of the deceased. It makes me hope there really is a hell because Phelps will have a very special place there.

  27. barfly says:

    Make that “follow-ups.”

  28. texaslady says:

And each sect believes they are the only ones that are right. Pretty scarey how many crazies are running around loose. At least T.Snow and I agreed on one thing.

  29. unbelievable says:

    Was Tony Snow not religious?

I never understood an Atheistic or Agnostic conservative. Seems a stark contradiction to have reason in religious matters, but abandon it in political ones…

  31. Angstone says:

I have no idea what I was thinking (probably the heat) but I was going to try to get on to the Freeper thread about this and say “As a liberal, maybe this is ONE thing we can finally agree on — The WBC f**kers should fry in hell”

But wouldn’t you know — If you read their thread, they’re saying that WBC is a Democratic front group, Fred Phelps was a Gore Delegate in 2000 and George Soros funds the church. The Gringrich era Reich wing, clear thinking since 1994.

  32. RantingTommy says:

    Tanqueray Says:

Sorry T(oilet)P(aper), get your facts straight.

LOL. wow, you really are one wrong MF

Is your ignorance a result of your cowardice or is your cowardice a result of your ignorance? Perhaps they feed each other. Perhaps it is a chicken or egg kind of argument. The only thing certain is that you are both cowardly AND ignorant.

  33. Zooey says:

    Shayne is Daryll?

    Nice work. ;)

  34. unbelievable says:

Baptists, especially Southern Baptists, are as conservative as Christianity gets. No way they’d approve of the Democratic agenda of pro-choice, women’s rights, a living minimum wage, etc. if they clearly protest gay rights…

    Inane troll logic.

  35. unbelievable says:

  40. unbelievable says:

From Westboro’s website about Tony Snow:

Christ Episcopal Church (Lepor Colony) 118 N. Washington St. Tony Snow (Press Secretary for 6 “B” George W. Bush) is dead, YES! He had a platform, he was given some small talent by his creator. He was an unfaithful steward, and is now residing in hell. Each opportunity he had to faithfully REport what the servants at WBC had to tell this country/world, Tony Snow besmerched and vilified the words of God and the people of God. Thereby being a party to the crime of passing laws to make the preaching of the gospel to this adulterous and sinful generation = criminal activity. That is a very bad monkey! This is what the Lord Jesus Christ said about hypocritical heretical “scribes”: Matthew 23:13 But woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye shut up the kingdom of heaven against men: for ye neither go in yourselves, neither suffer ye them that are entering to go in. Matthew 23:14 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye devour widows? houses, and for a pretence make long prayer: therefore ye shall receive the greater damnation. Matthew 23:15 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye compass sea and land to make one proselyte, and when he is made, ye make him twofold more the child of hell than yourselves. Matthew 23:23 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone. Matthew 23:25 [...]

You see there is nothing worse than a scribe who has gone away from their primary duty to faithfully report the facts as they ARE! And how appropriate that this brute, vain beast of a brat was raised Catholic, but then determined like his forefathers that oops! he’d rather be a filthy Episcopalian, instead. God hates Tony Snow, and that is why he is now burning in hell.

  43. misshusseinmolly says:

One thing I have to say about Phelps and his unholy gang — they crap on everyone equally.

I wasn’t a fan of Tony Snow while he was alive, but his family and other mourners don’t deserve this.

  44. Freedom Rebel says:

Fred Phelps’s must be taking notes from John Hagee. These
evangelical ministers rant hatefully that God hates gay people. I guess they both don’t like the part of the Bible that says love thy neighbor. They pick and choose the parts of the Bible that suits their warped and twisted causes.

What is even more tragic as some of these crazies have taken their sideshows to the airwaves. They have been able to sway people with their Christian Facism. If the press would start doing their job many of these charlatans would be outed for the hateful, bigoted messages they broadcast.

  45. gummitch says:

    Bathtub Gin Says:

Right wing Phelps family? They’re a bunch of Al Gore supporting, Castro loving democrats, hardly right wing.

Phelps “loves” Castro because Castro has campaigned against homosexuality.

And Gore? “During the 1992 presidential campaign, Phelps protested Hillary Rodham Clinton during a campaign speech in support of the Clinton-Gore ticket at the University of Kansas on October 14, 1992. In Bill Clinton’s second presidential campaign, Phelps and the Westboro church also opposed Clinton and Gore because of the administration’s support for gay rights. The entire Westboro congregation picketed a 1997 inaugural ball,[47] denouncing Gore as a “famous fag pimp.”[48] In 1998, Westboro picketed the funeral of Gore’s father, screaming vulgarities at Gore and telling him, “your dad’s in Hell.”[48]”

Those lies will make you sick, Gin.

That’s the problem with a lot of narrow people — they can only comprehend two possible ideologies. And if you don’t fit into one pigeonhole, then you MUST be part of the other. The wingnuts look at Phelps and say, “nope — he’s not us, so therefore he must be a liberal Democratic moonbat funded by George Soros.” They don’t realize how stupid this sounds.

Just like both parties have a left wing and moderates ( though left wing or moderate Republinuts seem to be an endangered species lately ).

Interesting. The “Fred Phelps supported Al Gore” part of the Wikipedia entry footnotes such unimpeachable sources as WorldNet Daily and the Georgia Chapter of the Log Cabin Republicans. Consider the source guys. The guy is a hate monger and seems to be equal opportunity. The fact that the people trying to tie him to the Democrats vote exclusively (whether they admit it or not) for a party that incorporates gay hatred into its platform and which won the last presidential election by sponsoring a series of anti-gay marriage ballot initiatives just makes the value of this thread more dubious.

In my state legislative district there hasn’t been a Republican nominated for years so I vote for who I like even though the Green or Socialist candidate doesn’t have a chance.

But, it’s a convenient talking point for trolls like jabber to be able to point out people who are crazy were registered to vote as a Democrat.
