The Washington Post’s Howard Kurtz reports that at the end of the year, Fox News’s top anchor, Brit Hume, will step down from his roles as the network’s Washington managing editor and the host of “Special Report.” According to Kurtz’s sources, Hume will continue at the network in a senior statesman role similar to Tom Brokaw at NBC News. He will also continue as as a panelist on “Fox News Sunday.” No replacement has been announced.
One of the worst news-idiots of all time. Hand’s down. Good riddance, you horrible human-type being.
July 15th, 2008 at 4:30 pmHe will not be missed.
He should take all the Bush apologists with him. Oh, then no one would be left at Fox.
July 15th, 2008 at 4:30 pmSo?
Unless he is also dying, why is this news?
July 15th, 2008 at 4:31 pmAnother rat deserting the ship, huh? If Bildo O’Reilly and Sean Insanity resign, then we’ll really know that we have turned the corner.
July 15th, 2008 at 4:34 pmHe can devote more time to ensuring that his face will stop melting off.
July 15th, 2008 at 4:34 pmI’ll bet he’s moving to Paraguay.
July 15th, 2008 at 4:37 pmI think that Brit is hoping that this is like on the old cartoons when you see the house plummeting off the cliff, and the lead character leaps out of the house just as it’s about to hit and lands safely on the ground. Except this is reality, and Brit Hume will bear the stigma of Faux Noise with him forever.
July 15th, 2008 at 4:37 pmBrit Hume is such a smug dick. Whenever Juan Williams is talking the camera always cuts to Brit giving a condescending look.
Hey Brit, piss off you piece of shit.
July 15th, 2008 at 4:38 pmHe can stay off the air and practice his condescending smirk.
They’ll just find some other right-wing blowhard to take his place. They certainly won’t attempt to fill his spot with an actual journalist! That might give people the impression that Rupert Murdoch supports journalism. And they would be mistaken.
July 15th, 2008 at 4:38 pmTrust me on this Brit…your no Tom Brokaw and you never will be on his level either.
July 15th, 2008 at 4:39 pmOne of the great bores of the Western world. He has more in common with Tom Brokaw than just “elder news statesman.” Stupid and smug, he was a born Republican.
Now, if we can only get rid of the others.
July 15th, 2008 at 4:41 pmreplacement?…paris hilton?…
July 15th, 2008 at 4:43 pm“Looks like a black guy’s really gonna win, time for me to retire!”
July 15th, 2008 at 4:44 pmA simulated excerpt from Brit’s future memoirs:
“I too soon realized that the heady of days sweat, knee pads, lip balm and W’s fine Republican ass were coming to end and I could no longer go on. Better to walk away with fond memories of demogoguery and sycophancy than to drag out my tenure with Fox News while that elitist Obama took the office of President from my beloved party.”
Heatbreakin’ ain’t it.
July 15th, 2008 at 4:44 pmAnother docent for the Bush LIE-bary. That place is gonna have one kid’s book, one shredded copy of the Bill of Rights and a lot of sycophants hanging around the mens room.
July 15th, 2008 at 4:49 pmBig-flarking-whoop. Good riddance.
July 15th, 2008 at 4:49 pmNo replacement has been announced.
jeff gannon.
the right man
at the right time.
real news,
fair and balanced.
:)
thank you.

July 15th, 2008 at 4:50 pmWell, I for one, won’t miss him. His condescending attitude and his smugness are too much to bear.
July 15th, 2008 at 4:53 pmIn his new position, he will be “anchor emeritus” which should suit his ginormous ego.
I happily send him emails whenever the US Attorney scandal / Justice Department concerns resurface in other news venues — issues that never seem to make it all the way to Fox.
He opined early on that the whole Alberto Gonzales affair was being blown out of proportion.
So long, Mr. Hume — way to consistently have your finger on the pulse of the real news.
July 15th, 2008 at 5:01 pmGoodbye Brit:
I’ll miss things like your on screen graphic that said “Scooter Libby Found Not Guilty.” And then there was the interview of Cheney after he shot his friend in the face when you edited out the part where Cheney admitted that he had been drinking.
As your own PR department would say, we wish you well.
July 15th, 2008 at 5:01 pmBrit Who???
July 15th, 2008 at 5:02 pmreplacement?…paris hilton?…
More likely:
1. Ann Coulter
2. Michelle Malkin
3. Billy Krystol
4. Charlie Krauthammer
5. Freddie Barnes
They are all nuts who haven’t fallen far from the tree. Much more Rupert’s speed.
Of course, the one thing that is even scary to think about is that Murdoch is making room to accommodate some combination of GDumbya, Darth Cheney and KKKarl RoverBoy.
July 15th, 2008 at 5:04 pmBig deal. Fox will just replace Hume with another water-carrier for the right. We probably won’t even notice the change.
July 15th, 2008 at 5:06 pmMuch in the same way that AG Gonzalez made AG Ashcroft seem reasonable in retrospect, I hope that a year from now we’re not thinking, “Wow this new guy is even worse than Hume was.”
July 15th, 2008 at 5:12 pmThis is a golden opportunity for FoxNews to dial back the crazy. There’s plenty of level-headed people working there, like Greta and Shep. If they got a few more people like them on board, the claims of being fair and balanced wouldn’t always be met with laughter.
I know that the bottom line for FoxNews isn’t credibility. And I know that this is unlikely to change under Roger Ailes. But now that they’ve proven they can be the biggest news channel, I’d like to see them try to be a better news channel.
“Brit Hume stepping down from Fox News.”
July 15th, 2008 at 5:13 pmAny move away from Fox News is a “step up”.
Brit Hume is to senior statesman like chewing gum under the luncheonette counter is to haute cusine!
July 15th, 2008 at 5:16 pmGood riddance!
July 15th, 2008 at 5:19 pmI thought he had died and they just propped his body up in the chair each week. Kinda like a weekend at bernies kinda deal. Will anyone even notice that the wet dishrag is gone?
July 15th, 2008 at 5:21 pmIt’s obvious that Hume is not steeping down as a result of having spent all his credibility.
He NEVER had any credibility in the first place.
July 15th, 2008 at 5:22 pmBrian Williams may be available – he’d be a perfect replacement
July 15th, 2008 at 5:24 pmThe mumbling basset hound moves on. Don’t expect any improvement with his replacement.
July 15th, 2008 at 5:25 pmGdbhye Brt Hme. Wee wsh yu wll, in hll.
July 15th, 2008 at 5:29 pmNo balloons and cake from me. So, Hume will continue being a panelist on the Clown Network. Now, is Ms. Hume stepping down also since she gave hubby his job? ;-)
July 15th, 2008 at 5:33 pmHe knows the gig is up for neocon news outlets.
Guess he waited until Tony Snow died, for decency’s sake.
As Mike Malloy says, so often: Have I told you lately how much I hate these people?
July 15th, 2008 at 5:43 pmmaybe he has cancer. one can but hope.
July 15th, 2008 at 5:44 pmShi*t Fume has been stinking up the place for years.
-GSD
July 15th, 2008 at 5:45 pmThe average life span for an American male is only 76 years. Methinks the 65-year-old Hume has miscalculated his retirement. Only eleven years to atone for a 12-year career of lies and deception at Fox News?!?!? Either Hume’s counting on some borrowed time coming his way, or he has as little concern/regard for the afterlife (or the likelihood of Karma coming back to bite him in the a$$) as he’s had for the Truth during his tenure at Fox.
July 15th, 2008 at 6:01 pmI’m sorry to correct you but you cannot step “down” from Fox News as there is nothing lower than.
July 15th, 2008 at 6:29 pmwould it be that Faux Gnus is upgrading it’s staff? Are O’Liely and CM next? All of its other stars are dead – Claribel, Bozo and Snow!
July 15th, 2008 at 6:48 pm‘would’ s/b ‘Could’, I thought that I corrected that.
July 15th, 2008 at 6:50 pmi wonder if we
couldn’t convince
daryll to take over
for brit?

daryll?

July 15th, 2008 at 7:10 pmBrit,
Promise or hope to die? Swear it now!
July 15th, 2008 at 7:30 pmWhat a blow to American journalism! What a job Brit did! Or, for shorthand: What a blowjob!
July 15th, 2008 at 7:38 pmTELL ME this has nothing to do with his expectation that Barack Obama will win in November.
July 15th, 2008 at 8:21 pmIs he going to be McCain’s running mate?
July 15th, 2008 at 9:36 pm.
The SouthPark in me instincivly cried out:
“Does he have an@l cancer, too?”
.
July 16th, 2008 at 1:15 amHume’s a mouthbreather.
Literally.
Anyone ever notice when Hume’s doing the news on Special Report (in that dead-silent, TV newsroom set with all the staff rushing about on the projected background) he uses the breaks between lies to audibly gasp like a mullet out of water?
Geez, can’t Rupert spend a few bucks to give this clown a kill-switch for his mike so the audience might be spared his disgusting phlegm-rattling while he’s searching for his sputum cup?
Classy operation, Fox.
July 16th, 2008 at 1:58 amA FOX news anchor position is desperately needed in Iraq.
Brit with his sure fire open mined reporting skills would make the difference in Iraq continuing the path of democracy with him at the news ancor seat on the ground in Iraq.
Does anybody think that Glenn Beck would be the perfect replacement for Brit Hume? I mean they are so identical FOX would lose a beat.
July 16th, 2008 at 2:21 amWhiners: don’t despair – he will still do 100 days a year for Fox…
July 16th, 2008 at 11:36 am
