Even with the extra ‘advantage’ physicians in many areas are not taking patients…. these folks that can not find a physician seek care in other towns 20 to 40 miles away.

They cana’t push privatized Medicare on to the public, so they will try it from the back door by cutting reimbursements, forcing doctors out of Mediare service.
But let’s continue the corporate welfare for big pharma, by all means.

So now, Bush wants to make sure that doctors fear taking Medicare. Does not matter whether there is or is not a veto over ride. It is sufficient to create risk in the minds of doctors.

That fear is already there. I have a friend who moved here from California. She can’t find a physician who takes Medicare UNLESS she has the extra “advantage” insurance she has to pay for out of her pocket. Without the augmentation of the extra “advantage” policy, the physician would be losing money to take her on as a patient.

This is what Bush was aiming for. He has privatized Medicare.

Bush vetoed it, he said in a statement, because of Democratic attempts to roll back certain private elements within the Medicare program. Democrats say the private plans amount to a corporate giveaway and are too costly; Bush frames it as a matter of choice, saying in a veto statement that “taking choices away from seniors to pay physicians is wrong.”

Bush has been cutting pay to physicians since he took office. His objective was to create the private for-profit “advantage” insurance to allow his corporate buddies to get a cut of the Medicare pie. Seniors didn’t have to dip into their income to purchase these “advantage” policies before Bush took office. The only reason why they have to purchase them now is because no physician will take a new Medicare client who doesn’t have one of the “advantage” policies because the physician would be losing money on the patient without the augmenting insurance.

Hopefully Obama will restore pay to physicians to a market-value level and do away with the profit motive in Medicare. That is not why Medicare was created, to help make more money for corporate insurance companies.
