American News Project notes that in yesterday’s House Judiciary subcommittee hearing on torture, Rep. Jerrold Nadler (D-NY) asked Doug Feith if a 20-hour interrogation involving “hooding” and “removal of clothing” was “humane.” Feith hedged, curiously claiming that “removal of clothes is different from naked”:
NADLER: : Let me ask you. How could you force someone to be naked –
FEITH: It doesn’t say naked. It doesn’t say naked.
NADLER: Removal of clothing. Removal of clothing doesn’t mean naked?
FEITH: Removal of clothing is different from naked.
Watch it:
That stupidity needs no comment. Oops!
July 16th, 2008 at 10:58 amWell, the guy’s obviously not naked if he’s got a hood over his head and electrodes clamped to his scrotum. DUH!
July 16th, 2008 at 10:59 amMy god, is he ever stupid.
July 16th, 2008 at 10:59 amDoug, don’t leave the country after January 20.
July 16th, 2008 at 10:59 amIs this guy for real ?!?
July 16th, 2008 at 11:00 amAnd waterboarding is NOT torture, it’s water sports.
Someone frag this idiot at once.
July 16th, 2008 at 11:00 amMuzz,
Unfortunately, yes.
July 16th, 2008 at 11:01 amUnka Ho,
And I think a Willie Peter would be the perfect choice.
July 16th, 2008 at 11:02 amThis comment will certainly highlight the fact that anything he said before or says after is complete garbage.
July 16th, 2008 at 11:02 amlets waterSPORT him, he has information we need.
July 16th, 2008 at 11:02 amHe’s about as well-prepared as Alberto Gonzales was for his testimony; imagine how atrocious he’d be WITHOUT gazillion hours of behind-the-scenes prep.
Sometimes there’s just no way to make the unimaginable presentable.
How many more days left?
July 16th, 2008 at 11:06 amAnd absence of one’s hair isn’t the same as “bald”, I suppose.
I half expect Feith to clarify his stupid remark with “removal of clothing is only ‘naked’ if you remove ALL the clothing.”
July 16th, 2008 at 11:09 amDoug needs to ahve his clothers removed, then water boarded.
A solid beating would not be out of the question, either.
July 16th, 2008 at 11:10 amLet’s remove his clothing and see how he feels about that.
Nevermind, I already how how we’d feel about that… Ugh!
July 16th, 2008 at 11:12 am. . . and brainless isn’t the same as empty-headed.
But, as Little Dougie amply demonstrates, stupid is forever!
July 16th, 2008 at 11:12 amSo if a prisoner is left with a single sock, he doesn’t count as naked?
July 16th, 2008 at 11:15 amIn FeithWorld, it’s only “naked” if there’s cheesey porn music in the background, and a pizza delivery boy at the door.
July 16th, 2008 at 11:15 amWe have always been at war with Eurasia.
July 16th, 2008 at 11:16 amFEITH: Removal of clothing is different from naked.
He then added:
…And NO actually means YES with consensual sex in an airport Mens bathroom
Mucking foron!
July 16th, 2008 at 11:21 amDon’t forget, this is the guy who wouldn’t attend the first HJC hearing on this subject because he was scared shitless to sit on a panel with Larry Wilkerson, who Dougie says called him names in the schoolyard.
Parsing what constitutes being naked, or being tortured for that matter- courtesy of Dougie Feith, Whiny Ass Titty Baby.
July 16th, 2008 at 11:26 amseems to me, the longer this guy, and everone else responsible for this mess, walks free, then the onus is on you and me for allowing it to happen.
July 16th, 2008 at 11:32 amAh, we’ve come full circle. I wonder of Dougie can define “is”. Of course, the depends on what the definition of “is” is…
July 16th, 2008 at 11:33 amIsn’t being that stupid a crime?
July 16th, 2008 at 11:33 amAre all Repugicunts scared little pussies or are the scared little pussy Repugs just getting all the attention?
July 16th, 2008 at 11:33 amcitizen_paing, FLAGGED OT.

Aren’t the prisons over-crowded enough…?
July 16th, 2008 at 11:34 amZooey Says:
Aren’t the prisons over-crowded enough…?
I say we let out all the pot smokers and put in all the Rethugs who have committed treasonous offenses.
July 16th, 2008 at 11:37 amShayne, what do you mean by flagged OT?
July 16th, 2008 at 11:39 amThey’re doing these things to these people to get information.
We want information from Feith. If it truly is “humane” and not a big deal and it results in useful responses, why not do it to him?
Of course that would never happen because it shouldn’t happen. But more importantly, it shouldn’t be happening anyone. We all know that if this were to happen in any sense Feith would be the first person complaining about it.
July 16th, 2008 at 11:44 amThis from the party that ridiculed Bill Clinton’s parsing of the word “is” in his attempt to conceal a consentual blow job, the party that ceaslessly bemoans trial lawyers. Jeez EVERYTHING out of their mouths has been parsed. The Administration’s use of politicised lawyers to bend the definition of words/phrases through parsing and hair splitting into some kind of “through the looking glass” version in order to justify their breaking of countless laws is surreal. And this is about torturing detainees who have’nt even been charged with a crime not a G-Damned blowjob! Then they ALL start finger pointing and denying that THEY were the ones who gave the WH the “legal” go ahead. Ashcroft, Gonzales, Mukasey, Addington, Feith, Yoo, Miers, Roberts, Alito, Scalia…this is the short list of scumbag criminal abbeters that deserve at the very least to be disbarred for justifying criminal acts, not investigating crimes and allowing crimes to continue by this crooked Administration. Throw into the mix the scores of unqualified hacks from Regents University that permeate our Justice system and all the willing hard right sycophants that were appointed by the DOJ to temporary AND carreer positions and it becomes glaringly clear just how broken the Justice system has been thoroughly corrupted by the George Bush Administration. President Obama will have a difficult task trying to right the ship of justice. Why haven’t Bush/Cheney been impeached, tried, imprisoned and summarily excecuted by now??!
July 16th, 2008 at 11:47 amFranks, according to Plan of Attack, says of Feith: “I have to deal with the stupidest f**king guy on the planet almost every day.”
confirmed and
reaffirmed.

thank you.

July 16th, 2008 at 11:53 amIf anyone cares to look up the full video on this, Feith explains that removal of certain items of clothing were taken off, not complete removal of everything so the prisoner is naked. Nadler is the one who used the word “naked”. I agree Feith is an idiot and do not agree with torture on any kind, but my point is that the left can edit video clips like the right do just to stir up peoples emotions and by most comments left here, it worked.
July 16th, 2008 at 11:58 amShayne Says:

July 16th, 2008 at 11:37 am
You’d have to let out more than just the pot smokers to have enough room in our prisons for all the Rethugs who have committed treasonous offenses.
July 16th, 2008 at 11:59 amActually part of my disgust with this exchange has to be reserved for Nadler.
Of course Feith is going to argue with semantics and Nadler get’s sucked right in.
Expressing incredulity is not a counter-argument.
Nagler could learn a lot about how to establish and win an argument from a lot of the commenters here at TP.
July 16th, 2008 at 12:03 pmbob loblaw,

July 16th, 2008 at 12:04 pmWasn’t Mr. “Libertarian” one of the folks largely responsible for the incarceration of so many nonviolent drug offenders? Mandatory minimumns have always been stupid ideas…
July 16th, 2008 at 12:05 pmYou incorrectly imply that clothes were removed for some reason other than humiliation….please. These are muslims, you do understand the implication, right?
July 16th, 2008 at 12:05 pmWayne A. Schneider Says:
July 16th, 2008 at 11:59 am
Damn it, Wayne. I was going to say that. *pout*
July 16th, 2008 at 12:06 pmWhat would have been classic would have been for people to come from off stage and strip Feith down to nothing. Then ask him, “What, are you not naked”?
Does he have any idea how stuipd he sounds?
July 16th, 2008 at 12:08 pmI actually agree with you on this. After watching the clip, I was left wondering how he explained “the removal of clothing is different from being naked”.
And I cannot stomach Feith.
July 16th, 2008 at 12:09 pmDo you have any idea how many times I have tried to explain this to the ladies?
July 16th, 2008 at 12:09 pm.
I tend to get naked WITH my clothes on…
[/snark]
.
July 16th, 2008 at 12:10 pmWhat he is saying is that being dumb is not the same as being stupid. Feith is certainly an expert in this field.
July 16th, 2008 at 12:11 pmNot only is he an expert but he has a reputation to defend.
“Mirror, mirror on the Wall,” who is the dumbest of us all?
Did you guys read the account of portions of this hearing as written by Dana Milbank in the WaPo?
July 16th, 2008 at 12:12 pmIt’s enough to make me tear my hair out — http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/07/15/AR2008071502670.html?hpid=opinionsbox1

July 16th, 2008 at 12:14 pmHOGANNN!!!!
July 16th, 2008 at 12:19 pmWhat a scummy nation of criminals we have become…maybe we deserve what is going to happen to our economy for this sort of activity.
July 16th, 2008 at 12:24 pmPayPerView: Waterboarding this Asshat and the entire Bush Admin)! (I can dream can’t I?
July 16th, 2008 at 12:29 pmThere’s a reason Feith is considered the “stupidest farkin’ guy on the face of the planet”…..
Cheers,
July 16th, 2008 at 12:33 pmWhy didn’t someone attact his argument at its roots. The removal of clothing is an action and being naked is the probable result of the action. Why wasn’t the brilliant Mr. Ferth asked what the “removal of clothing” was going to accomplish, if not 9 times out of 10 a suspect being questioned slumped naked.
How can this guy be teaching at a prestigious school?

July 16th, 2008 at 12:35 pmAnd removal of brain isn’t the same as decapitation.
Nice try feinting Feith, but your day with destiny at Den Hague is just a few short months away.
July 16th, 2008 at 12:42 pmYou’ve got to be pretty dim to make Tommy Franks look like a genius, but every time this guy opens his mouth, he succeeds in doing just that.
July 16th, 2008 at 1:03 pmOh, god Feith is a village idiot. So, removing clothes is different from naked? Then, I must be blind in one eye because we all saw the shocking Abu Ghraib photos of those detainees nude attacked by dogs.
July 16th, 2008 at 2:46 pmRemoval of clothes is different than naked.
I’m missing the concept here. Could you demonstrate this for the fine senators ?
July 16th, 2008 at 3:06 pmZooey @ 18:
“In FeithWorld, it’s only “naked” if there’s cheesey porn music in the background, and a pizza delivery boy at the door.”
In my world that would be “nekkid”. LOL
July 16th, 2008 at 3:23 pmI stand corrected, one more clue. :-D
July 16th, 2008 at 5:10 pmAs some commenters have already stated
Doug, don’t plan on extended vacations overseas.
As a matter of fact – you need to watch your ass here in the US also.
You never know when the US citizenry gets fed up with your ass and sends it to the Hageu.
You submitting to war crimes would be excellent!
Though I’m agnostic, I’d love to see you, Doug Feith, admit to the war crimes you have committed.
Iknow that ain’t going to happen.
Troubled Texan
July 16th, 2008 at 8:26 pmApparently Feith believes in a literal interpretation of the term ‘birthday suit.’
July 16th, 2008 at 8:28 pmI believe the Peter Principle is at work with regards to Feith. Shorter: Sh*t Floats… The guy is to stupid to breath.
July 16th, 2008 at 9:33 pmStunning.
July 16th, 2008 at 10:05 pmNow we know why our trolls are so amazingly stupid: It was Douglas Feith who taught them everything he knows about logical and coherent argumentation. Which, of course, is not much if any at all.
Just when I think Feith cannot be any more idiotic, he manages to surprise me.
July 17th, 2008 at 3:21 amIs the removal of truth the same as lying?
July 17th, 2008 at 8:25 amcomment still awaiting moderation???
July 17th, 2008 at 3:15 pmI am sorry but when you remove articles of clothing from ones body, yes you are naked
July 18th, 2008 at 5:19 amI’m still waiting for him to be arrested for treason and thrown under the jail or at least deported for filtering false Israeli intelligence through his “Office of Special Plans” to the White House to justify the preemptive attack on Iraq….. still waiting…..waiting…..waiting……
July 19th, 2008 at 1:30 amJust one of many Israeli agents in our country. This country doesn’t have a chance, unless we track all of them down and place them on trial for treason. Then hang them. Then we need to kick their embassy out of this country and break all relations with their state. Any kind of relationship with that state will bring hundreds if not thousands of Israeli spies into our country. We also need to tell Jews in this country to make up their minds, either they are Americans or they are Israeli’s, they can’t be both. If they don’t like it, show them the door! Letting them have duel citizenship is bull crap. Until we break free from the Zionist Vampires that have a death grip on this nation, don’t expect anything to change. In fact the America we grew up to love and feel proud of, is dying. Americans seem to be waking up. The question is, will it be in time?
July 19th, 2008 at 5:50 pmAs time goes on, I’m beginning to wonder if they had a hand in 9/11. The aftermath has sure benefited them. It sure hasn’t benefited the Arabs. Ask the people of Iraq.
Feith would have been jailed and possibly executed by now for treason over the Larry Franklin incident (among other things), had it not been for Senator Jay Rockefeller’s complicity.
I’m a lifelong Democrat from WV and although Jay’s my junior senator, I gotta say that his actions (and inactions) on the Senate Defense Intelligence Oversight committee have been nothing short of criminal.
I expect Bush to award Senator Rockefeller the Medal of Freedom any day now.
August 9th, 2008 at 3:57 pmThis guy could be a stand up comic! His remarks are either hilarious or stupid in the extreme!
August 25th, 2008 at 7:22 pmThey never take into consideration that in this country we have a COMPULSORY education system whereas in other cetcountries students are subjected to a series of exams to determine if they are to continue on an academic track.Bedava mp3 indirLook around the world. Many countries are being way more sucessful than we are at both taskssohbet.
