O’Reilly Jokes About Waterboarding His Staff In Order To Identify Who Leaked Jackson’s Comments»

Last week, the media went into a frenzy after Fox News’s Bill O’Reilly released footage of Rev. Jesse Jackson criticizing Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL) before an interview. Yesterday, TV Newser released a leaked portion of the Jackson transcript that O’Reilly and Fox News had chosen to not make public.

Appearing on Shepard Smith’s Fox News show yesterday, O’Reilly explained that he “held it back” because “it was not relevant to the general subject — one civil rights leader disparaging another, over policy.” Towards the end of the interview, Smith asked O’Reilly, “do we know leaked it?” “No,” replied O’Reilly, adding that he would find out because he had “the waterboard over here”:

O’REILLY: So, we held it back, and then, some weasel got the whole thing, leaked it out to the internet, and here we are.

SMITH: Do we know who leaked it and what’s happened to that person?

O’REILLY: No, but I have the waterboard over here, and we have a couple of people that, you know, we’ll dunk. We’ll find out.

When Smith said, “we don’t allow torture here,” O’Reilly replied, “well, you talk to some of my guests.” Watch it:

It’s not surprising that O’Reilly would so casually joke about using waterboarding as an interrogation technique. In February, O’Reilly defended the Bush administration’s use of the tactic by claiming that “it’s not fatal” and “it doesn’t leave a lasting physical injury.”

O’Reilly doesn’t know what he’s talking about when he downplays the effects of waterboarding. In 2007, former Navy survival instructor Malcolm Nance described waterboarding to Congress, saying “It is an overwhelming experience that induces horror and triggers frantic survival instincts.” Nance concluded of his experience being waterboarded, “I was being tortured.”

Watching this bald-headed pervert’s crappy show is worse than any type of torture invented ; which is why his AVERAGE VIEWER’S AGE IS 70………

  2. ralph the wonder llama Says:

O’Reilly doesn’t know what he’s talking about when he downplays the effects of waterboarding.

Unless the subject is sexual harassment lawsuits or the Paris Business Review, one could save time and just shorten the above-quoted statement to its first seven words:

    “O’Reilly doesn’t know what he’s talking about.”

It appears that right-wingers are fascinated — fascinated — by the fact that liberals will criticize each other.

Such irregular behavior is unknown in their land.

    Har har har.

    That’s hilarious.

    Not.

  6. republicans hate facts Says:

Torture doesn’t require PHYSICAL injury - something a TARD like O’LieLy always INTENTIONALLY leaves out. What a DISHONEST HACK!

  7. republicans hate facts Says:

Oh, and O’Liely, if the person has a heart condition, you WILL leave permanent injury… But don’t let THAT REALITY cloud your PARTISAN LUST FOR TORTURE!!!

I know this story is a few days old. But I have to comment on the 15 year old Canadian citizen who is being detained in GITMO who is complaining he should be allowed to go home.

I am sure the Liberals jumped all over this and pulled out their “I AM ASHAMED TO BE AN AMERICAN” paper bags to put over their heads.
This 15 year old was caught killing one of our soldiers. That is why he is in GITMO. His defense lawyers released a video of him being questioned by a man at GITMO. You can hear the man asking this 15 year old how he is doing, did he want a hamburger…he wanted to make sure he was getting adequate medical treatment..etc.

I never saw one comment from any liberal who cared at all about the soldier that was killed by this 15 year old.

Liberals are so deranged, they will always side with the enemy over our forces.

It is sad what this segment of our society has produced.

This is from one of the local wingnuts on another site. He’s typical of the reichwing, right down the crappy spelling.

  9. Leftside Annie Says:

Oh puh-lease, “truther” (now, that’s funny!!) - Billdo is a salacious gossipmonger who lies for money.

That’s all the credit he gets from me.

And Jesse Jackson was freakin’ STUPID to go on FUX Noose and expect them to behave with ethics or integrity.

If they are so thoroughly entertained by this bald-headed bore , they should watch Animal Planet 24/7 ; the monkey shit fights in the wild are far more enjoyable , as well as much more informative and meaningful…………

  11. 5th Estate Says:

And recently Christopher Hitchens actually had the guts to experience water-boarding–twice actually, to see if it might not be as bad as the first time–and concluded emphatically that it is TORTURE!

It’s Ironic that Hitchens had to be tortured before admitting the truth, so one might argue that it actually ‘worked’–except that the information forced out of Hitchens was merely a confirmation of what rational people already knew, it wasn’t new or valuable information to anyone except Hitchens himself.

    Ummmm………Why ?

  13. Art Says:

Even Shepard Smith knows it’s torture!

  14. upside99 Says:

It is funny that usually a guest on billo’s ‘no spin’ charade gets their mic turned OFF, but it was left on for Jesse to spew his crapola. I wonder how much coaxing or baiting he was given?

And, other than the blue haired demographics, his ratings are still dropping. After November, his only audience will be the 23%ers who still won’t accept that they have a BLACK leader with intelligence and some human compassion.

    Heh heh heh

I’m sure that if this story gained any traction at all with the MSM (which it won’t), somebody would step forward. [snip]

MSM outlets usually look for first hand reports BEFORE they run with a story. They usually don’t run the story and then hope for someone to “step forward.” Here, it looks like nobody has stepped forward with a first hand account out of the large audience that allegedly heard this joke.

How about giving O’Reilly some credit for not running the part of the tape where Jesse Jackson complained that Obama was telling “ni**ers” how to behave?

Because it’s more than likely an authorized leak. FOX didn’t want to air the N-word and get blowback instead of embarrassing Jackson and Obama, so they leaked the less racially charged part of the eavesdropping, and “leaked” this to an internet so they can feign shock, shock I tell you, at the use of the word without being complicit.

  19. Bobwurst Says:

Oops, that should be “aired the less racially charged…” I really need to start proofreading my posts.

This is exactly the state of acceptance of torture techniques sought by the bush administration: make it something that surrogates will routinely joke about, hey no big deal ha ha you better watch out, I’m gonna waterboard you.

I guess it wasn’t such a funny thing in WW2, when we executed japanese officers for waterboarding GI’s.

  22. Bilbo Hussein Baggins Says:

So, we held it back, and then, some weasel got the whole thing, leaked it out to the internet, and here we are.

Anyone want to bet the “weasel” was Bill O’Reilly. Fox was taking a lot of flack for releasing what they did since they were essentially eavesdropping. I’m betting that Fox told O’Reilly to not release the rest of the tape and this was his way of getting it out there.

  23. RUCerious Says:

    Bobwurst, spot on, dude.

  24. A Patriot Acting Says:

troller21 wants us ti thank Billdo. For the last several days Billdo has been overtly hinting at additional footage in his posession that could ruin Jesse Jackson’s career if it was let out. The salacious teasing by Billdo hyped this nonsense non-issue into a potential bombshell. This isn’t the first time that FAUX News has “accidentally” left the mikes rolling and recording while guests are not on camera. Thank Billdo?? F#CK BILLDO and F#CK troller21!!

  38. A Patriot Acting Says:

The troll acts like it doesn’t realize that to Billdo this issue means two things. Viewership (which translates to money) and knocking a Democrat (see Ayles, Murdoch, Billdo etal at that fetid network)

As to Rev. Jackson, like an earlier poster pointed out it seems alien to the Right that people on the Left think for themselves and aren’t afraid to question or speak out about their own when they don’t agree.

And Jackson is just like Nader, on the RNC payroll to ruin elections for Democrats. But you Rethugs acting like you care about anybody using that word is truly entertaining. Let me guess, the person who wrote the original script for ‘Kill Bill’ worked for O’Reilly…

  52. Zimzone Says:

O’Reilly & Jackson are an awful lot alike when you think about it.

    -They’re both racists

-They both think they’re good looking

    -They both think they’re intelligent

-They both think they’re the center of the Universe

-They both think of themselves before anyone else.

    -They both lie a lot

-More people dislike than like them

    -They’re both media whores

-They’re both falling out of grace with the general public

Two peas in a pod, in my estimation…

Often when pulling this stunt, the wingnut tries to equate viewership with journalistic integrity, or intelligence, or truthfulness.

    Interesting tactic.

    Dbadass,
No I don’t think torture should be used. Its horribly cruel and we know that people may say anything to avoid pain.

and yet the Left (including dbass) will flip over backwards in glee at the opportunity to repeat anything an American POW may or may not have said after months of torture at the hands of the enemy in VietNam, so long as that POW is named McCain.

    Unclear on the Concept:

The point, troller21, is that the Right supports torture despite it’s utter inability to produce useful information.

McCain gave information to his captors, but he says it was useless information..

Therefore the Right has two choices:

either McCain is lying, and torture works

McCain is telling the truth and torture is useless and counterproductive.

But the Right, as is its habit, ignores reality and wants to have it both ways:

McCain is telling the truth BUT torture works.

I know it’s hard for you to follow, but when people bring up McCain in the context of torture, it’s because he knows it doesn’t work, he was against it for a long time, and then he flip-flopped and now supports it.

By the way, just because your fake ID say you’re 21 doesn’t mean it’s so.

You’re still only 13, even if you can grow a mustache.

McCain has repeatedly said that he is against torture and against waterboarding

I think what you meant to say in regard to grampy voting for torture is, ” he was against torutre before he was for it”.

For the rest of us, the issue is cut and dried: he voted against legislation banning waterboarding. plain and simple

  88. dbadass Says:

Well at long last the point has been made utterly clear yet again. I’m running a little late for work. Luckily I have the luxury of setting my own schedule. I trust those of you capable of logical consistency of thought will continue to hold the fort as you do so well against the inane random thoughts of the troglydytes.

  89. pete Says:

Is it not funny that, with all that’s going wrong in our country, the trolls save so much ire to defend a useless turd like Bill0? Hello? He gets an hour a night to defend his asinine statements. And once in a great while he’ll, sort of, admit to making mistakes. I have to give him that much credit.

As for Jesse Jackson? I think he’s a predatory lightweight who has done more harm to his alleged causes than good. He appears to have done more to hold back African Americans than advance them. It’s just my opinion but I think Jesse would have faded into obscurity in 1968 if he had not been splattered with MLK’s blood.

And Tripplekick? I have a suggestion. Send an email to the TP staff that goes something like:

    “Dear TP”.

I think a story about Jesse Jackson’s alleged use of the N-word would make a good thread. Do you folks have any additional insight on this issue?”

    Thanx for your time etc.

And until such time as TP makes a statement about Rev. Jackson? It’s idiotic to assign them a position which mirrors your own. That’s called projection. It’s unproductive and unhealthy. Here’s a link to an online book that tells all about it. You’re welcome.

We’ll try, dbadass, but you know it’s tricky; if they followed the rules of standard logic and reality, we could smack ‘em back with facts.

But they’re unconventional. They embrace non-logic and treat opinion the same as we treat facts.

Nevertheless, we’ll try to stay strong in your absence.

No - you’re thinking of Stephen Colbert, who won the Peabody for parodying O’Reilly. I suppose one could argue that O’Reilly won the Peabody by proxy, but I won’t.

    upside,
I’m not a Republican. Please, don’t be a simpleton who is reduced to left vs. right party bashing. I just think the hysteria over this non-torture/torture is ridiculously out of proportion to the amount of (non)outrage expressed towards the terrorists by some leftwing communities.

  97. Leftside Annie Says:

Hmmm. It appears that these trolls don’t think it’s acceptable to smear a veteran who served his country in Vietnam…

So, trollies, if that’s true, please explain why it was acceptable for reichwing to smear John Kerry and denigrate *his* service to this country during the 2004 presidential campaign.

    I’ll be waiting.

  98. gummitch Says:

    TrippleKick Says:

    Left Annie

I think the swift boat vets for truth were successful and viewed as credible simply because they actually served with John Kerry, therefore their criticism appeared to be legitimate rather than partisan. Not to mention that Kerry himself was accusing his own countrymen of atrocities and throwing his medals over fences and what not.

You need to do some reading outside the wingnut sources. Just like truther21, your regurgitation of the Swift Boat lies reveals a lack of attention. You can start here.

    And specifically here.

Only one member of SBV actually served with John Kerry on Kerry’s boat and that is Steve Gardner.

However, neither he NOR any other member of the so-called “Swift Boat Veterans for Truth” (SBV) served with John Kerry during the incidents that led to KERRY’S PURPLE HEARTS, BRONZE STAR AND SILVER STAR!

The remaining members either never served in Vietnam when Kerry was there (a notable example is their key spokesman and Nixon-patsy John O’Neill) or served in other boats or other positions that would provide them little or no first hand knowledge about Kerry’s service. Of those who actually served under/with Kerry in his boat, 11 out of 12 fully support Kerry!

  99. pete Says:

Cheese and crackers! John Kerry isn’t running either. You folks really should learn to concentrate on McPander Bear. He’s up for election and, judging by the latest Reuters/Zogby numbers, he’s slipping. Badly.

And the whole SBV thing was an amateurish smear attempt. It was well timed and regrettably effective, but that source has been burned. Over and over again. Claims of channeling Martin Luther would hold more credibility.

  100. Bobwurst Says:

    truther21 Says:
There’s no telling just how many American lives were lost or how many POW’s stays were extended because of John Kerry’s lies.

There’s no telling because there weren’t any. However, how many lives were saved because the young John Kerry had the intergrity to stand up and speak truth to power rather than parrot the warmonger line? It’s a shame he lost that courage during his time in DC, otherwise, he’d be president now, not withstanding the switftboat liars.

  101. StratRat Says:

    truther21 Says:
There’s no telling just how many American lives were lost or how many POW’s stays were extended because of John Kerry’s lies.

You see how the trolls hang onto even the most documented untruth of the last election? You see how they re-cycle their lies, repackage them for later use - even though they have been debunked and laid bare. Proven BS, but here are our trolls trying once again. Silly trolls.

You see how their minds work? Throw enough stuff out there and someone, somewhere will believe it. Normally the believers are the Low Information Voters (LIV), but to them, that is ok too.

To the right side, lies have absolutely no expiration date.

Actually, they never served on the same boat at the same time.

Not to mention that Kerry himself was accusing his own countrymen of atrocities and throwing his medals over fences and what not.

And My Lai never happened? Open your eyes and crack a history book.
