McCain missed every single Afghanistan hearing his committee held.»

Sen. John McCain (R-AZ), “the top Republican on the Senate Armed Services Committee, has attended zero of his committee’s six hearings on Afghanistan over the last two years,” ABC News reports:

A review of the Senate Armed Services Committee hearings as listed on the committee Web site for the past two years reveals that McCain’s committee has held six hearings that included the word “Afghanistan” in the title or Central Command — which overseas U.S. troops in Afghanistan.

McCain missed them all.

The McCain campaign said the senator’s “previous foreign policy experience make up for his recent lack of attendance at hearings.”

I saw this yesterday on on Huff Po and wish we could have discussed it here as well.

In any event, it explains the “muddle through” comment McDepends made about Afghanistan; if you don’t care enough to attend and participate, you don’t really give a sh!t.

  2. nanlichi Says:

Who cares what the intelligence says, what does his gut tell him?

    Here we go again.

  3. Crusty Old Bastard Says:

What difference does it make? If he didn’t sleep through the meeting he would have forgotten everything ten minutes after it was over.

  4. machost Says:

So I have previous experience as a mother, therefore I never need to answer my son’s calls; my job is done, I’m a hero, and I’m qualified to be a Saint.

  5. Badmoodman Says:

Apparently McCain is too disinterested in Afghanistan to even muddle through it.

  6. stateofthedivision Says:

Zero for six? McCain is good enough to play for the Texas Rangers. Maybe, a retired Bush will sign him up.

Hey now - don’t knock the gut. It’s a well-established fact that there are more nerve endings in the gut than in the brain, you know…

  8. Zimzone Says:

    McChimp, MIA.

Viet Nam ‘Ace’ / Downed 5 planes (All ours) & 1 Carrier (Ours)

Gee, with a record like that, we’re lucky he’s missing the meetings.

  9. 5th Estate Says:

The McCain campaign said the senator’s “previous foreign policy experience make up for his recent lack of attendance at hearings.”

So..ummm his 8 trips to Iraq which failed to inform him of the difference between Shia and Sunni and his firm grasp of Czechoslovakia’s geopolitical importance tells him all he needs to know about Afghanistan?

And of ourse spending 99% of his war years as a POW demonstrates that he “knows how to win a war” too!
(I’m guessing not getting captured is a major element).

Boy, if the choice were between John McCain for president and pocket lint, I don’t know which one I’d pick!.

  10. GeeDubs Says:

I’d pick the pocket lint. Or the belly-button lint. Or the lint between my toes. And THIS is the man who ‘knows how to win wars.’ Well, if that was the case, wouldn’t Vietnam be the 51st state?

  11. nanlichi Says:

And one look at McCatatonic will tell you that his gut works harder than his brain.

  12. A Patriot Acting Says:

McCant also doesn’t support legislation that he originally co-sponsored or co-wrote. Jeebus, 0 for six in the Senate Armed Services Committee hearings, worst voting record in the Senate. Something tells me that if Johnny McCant were to be elected his poor work ethic would make the Shrub look like a freakin’ dynamo. Someone get this slacker some geritol and gynko pills ASAP! Oh nevermind, let the poor old man sleep, he will do less damage.

  13. Buckie Boy Says:

He wouldn’t have understood what was being discussed anyway.

  14. upside99 Says:

    truther,

Why are you throwing so much man-love at McDepends? Is he your uncle? Or are you just in lust with that He-ro?

  15. 5th Estate Says:

An I thought the whole point of having experience was to use it. Clearly I have a lot to learn…and then ignore.. and then learn again…and then forget and just muddle through life like a brain damaged lab rat in a maze.

Or maybe I could become a GOP presidential candidate!

  16. Fan of Man Says:

Because Afghanistan during the Soviet invasion from ‘78-’89 is still the exact same country now that it was then ?

    Sure

Just like Czechoslovakia , right McIgnoramus ?

  23. paleolib Says:

Not surprised McNutzi has missed the hearings since he has been awol from his government welfare job for nearly two years now. Just another “do as I say not as I do” moment from a campaign trying to label Obama as an inflexible flop-flopper.

  24. A Patriot Acting Says:

That’s right, liar21. Anything to add to the discussion of Mccant’s atrocious political record? Or are you trying to bait us into changing the subject to his miserable military record in Vietnam?

  25. RandomChaos Says:

I just realized something. Maybe some of you other regulars here have already.
This is the RePugs plan to have the BushItCo Administration’s Legacy not be so tarnished. Let’s put someone in place that is going to be even WORSE.

  26. GeeDubs Says:

I suppose actually HAVING a record of sorts is better than none at all…unless the record doesn’t have anything on it, in which case perhaps NOT having a record would be better. Was this flip-floppy enough?

    McSame: Tough On Terror!
McCain’s committee has held six hearings that included the word “Afghanistan” in the title or Central Command — which overseas U.S. troops in Afghanistan.
    McCain missed them all.

    Bush: Tough On Terror!
Hauling brush on his record setting vacation, Bush ignored the APB urgency regarding “Bin Laden determined to hijack planes” (possibly because he wanted to distance himself from the previous administration), resulting in the worst terrorist attack in United States history.

The more things change, the more things stay McSame!

  30. upside99 Says:

    Truther,

    As I have asked you before;

Why TF would you want a 100% disabled 71 YO man to be CiC? Are you a masochist?

  31. WaltTheMan Says:

    Zimzone,
McCain went to the Naval Academy for his distinguished academic experience and he graduated in the bottom .6%.

Now get back to licking McChimps’ balls. It appear that’s one of the few things you do well here.

  34. 5th Estate Says:

and BTW truther it is about McCain in particular not bothering to participate in hearings about issue in which he claims expertise–not “presidential candidates” simply missing hearings.

Until YOU actually stick to the subject or expand upon it in a rational fashion without your usual distortions and wilfull inaccuracies I’m just going to flag you from now own.

  35. Zimzone Says:

    Thanks, walt…you’re right, of course.

  36. paleolib Says:

  40. Leftside Annie Says:

I suggest you put down the rocks - before you accidentally hit yourself in the head with one…

…oh, wait, never mind. Forget I said anything.

  41. DRxJ Says:

So, we should refer to McCain as
    McSame, only older?

  42. Exit Stage Left Says:

The McCain campaign said the senator’s “previous foreign policy experience make up for his recent lack of attendance at hearings.”

Perhaps we should all call the boss to say our previous experience makes up for our lack of attendance at work. However, feel free to keep the paychecks coming :)~

  43. scytherius Says:

    It’s because he’s a useless Republican pig . . . next.

  44. Game of Life Says:

The McCain campaign said the senator’s “previous foreign policy experience make up for his recent lack of attendance at hearings.”

What bs. This is why he’s stuck in 1970.

No his previous “foreign policy experience” doesn’t make up for nothing because he doesn’t know who is who and what is what. he’s a liar. Foreign policy is not static you old coot.

  45. Guido the Loving OBGYN Says:

McCain too busy telling fart jokes to worry about such things.

  46. DallasNE Says:

So this is an example of McCain demonstrating his ability to win wars. Ignoring Afghanistan is now haunting America in the struggle against terrorism and this has been going on every since bin Laden was allowed to escape at Tora Bora some 6 years ago. McCain’s inattention is just a continuation of Bush’s inattention to that war.

  47. Game of Life Says:

    5th Estate Says:

and BTW truther it is about McCain in particular not bothering to participate in hearings about issue in which he claims expertise–not “presidential candidates” simply missing hearings.

Your right. the way mcchimpy explains it he’s the top dog in foreign policy. so wouldn’t his present be missed at these meetings?

What a joke the US has become. these explanations from his staff are ignorant and silly as hell.

  48. KEVKEV IN APACHE JUNCTION Says:

    http://www.vietnamveteransagainstjohnmccain.com/

McCain crashed 5 jets, plus was responsible for the Forrestal fire. Surviving crewmen and those who investigated the Forrestal fire case reported that McCain deliberately ‘wet-started’ his A-4E Skyhawk to shake up the guy in the F-4 Phantom behind his A-4. ‘Wet-starts’, done either deliberately (the starter motor switch allowed kerosene to pool in the engine and give a wet start) or accidentally, shoot a large flame from the tail of the aircraft. In McCain’s case, the ‘wet-start’ ‘cooked off’ and launched the M34 Zuni rocket from the rear F-4 that punctured the Skyhawk’s fueltank, knocked the M-65 1000 lb bomb off it’s 500 lb rated mount, and touched off the explosions and massive fire. The F-4 pilot was reportedly killed in the conflagration, along with 167 of his fellow Forrestal shipmates (including those who died later from wounds suffered). ‘Wet starting’ was a common practice among young ‘hot-dog’ pilots. McCain was quickly (they were still counting the Forrestal dead) transferred to the USS Oriskany (the only Forrestal crewman to be immediately transferred).

  49. 5th Estate Says:

truther: McCain never went to West Point idiot.

finally an accurate comment from truther( except for the “idiot” at the end).
However, truther still can’t be bothered to back-up his own statement and thereby properly inform the mistaken Zimzone.

McCain graduated from Annapolis (the Navy’s “West Point”) as an ensign, and as a pilot from Pensacola.

  50. 5th Estate Says:

    kevkev…

that version of the events fails to not that McCain was injured as well. Why? To paint McCain in the worst light possible by making it seem, by careful omission, that McCain was unhurt.
If this account is wholly true, why would the authors bother with such a select omission?
The mission doesn’t throw the whole account into disrepute by any means, but it does suggestion that the account should be cross referneced rather than relying on it solely.
Given McCain’s record prior and from what I’ve read about him from other sources including official naval records, it wouldn’t surprise me that the incident was due to McCain’s inherent recklessness. That argument is strong enough without having to resort to selective omission of facts.

  51. 5th Estate Says:

oops,,,many typos in the above #53. sorry about that.

Um, TP, not to be picky, but…

which overseas U.S. troops in Afghanistan.

Think you might mean “oversees” as in oversight, rather than “overseas” as in across the ocean?

We don’t want to appear as ignorant as the Boy King, now do we?

    PEACE

  54. spencers mom Says:

McCain graduated from Annapolis (the Navy’s “West Point”) as an ensign, and as a pilot from Pensacola.

Had McCain’s daddy not been an admiral, Johnny probably wouldn’t even have graduated. His ranking was 894th of the a class of 899.

Just what we need, another intellectual bottom-feeder.

McCain’s years spent in captivity in Vietnman means he is an expert on Afghanistan.

  66. tombaker Says:

He missed them because attending them would’ve been exactly what the Soviets wanted him to do. Now to drive the Austro-Hungarians from Constantinopole! To your horses, men!
