Conservative radio and television personality Glenn Beck will guest-host CNN’s Larry King Live tonight. His appearance on Larry King at 9 PM will air at the same time as the replay of his regular 7 PM program on CNN’s HeadlineNews. In inviting Beck to host Larry King, CNN is granting Beck a monopoly over its programming for a full prime-time hour. Counting scheduled replays of both programs, Beck will be on air for a total of eight hours between 7 PM tonight and 7 AM tomorrow morning — a full third of the two networks combined airtime.
It isn’t clear exactly why CNN would want or allow Beck — in his own words — “to fill in for a living legend like Larry King.” Indeed, Beck’s long history of making racist, ignorant, and completely false statements would seemingly disqualify him. Here are a few offensive examples:
On Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-NY): “She is like the stereotypical — excuse the expression, but this is the way to — she’s the stereotypical bitch, you know what I mean?”
On African-Americans: “I don’t have a lot of African-American friends, and I think part of it is because I’m afraid that I would be in an open conversation, and I would say something that somebody would take wrong, and then it would be a nightmare.”
On the poor: “Poor people are, in fact, lazy.”
On 9/11 victims’ families: “I wonder if I’m alone in this — you know it took me about a year to start hating the 9-11 victims’ families? Took me about a year.”
On detainees: “If I were President…our policy is…we’re going to shoot them all in the head. If we think that they are against us, we’re going to shoot them and kill them, period.”
On Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN), the first Muslim to serve in the House of Representatives: “What I feel like saying is, ‘Sir, prove to me that you are not working with our enemies.’”
Despite his bigoted views, the national media seems intent on rewarding Beck. Last winter, ABC News hired Beck to provide “regular commentary.” Last summer, the Washington Post considered hiring him to rejuvenate their lagging radio station. CNN itself has asked Beck to guest-host other primetime shows in the past.
Perhaps the media — and the self-appointed “most trusted name in news,” in particular — just have a different impression of what a “a leading cultural commentator” sounds like.

Beck will be on air for a total of eight hours between 7 PM tonight and 7 AM tomorrow morning

July 21st, 2008 at 2:34 pmAnother reason not to watch CNN or Faux….Beck is an ASS.
July 21st, 2008 at 2:35 pmGlen Beck’s folksy, regular guy schtick makes me want to wash my hair with sand paper.
July 21st, 2008 at 2:40 pmThe most Busted goons in News?
Larry King may be as old as McCrash, but Beck is poison.
Beck is that white guy who never did anything well, pinched girls in the butt in Jr. HS, lurked in corners at the HS dance, hung out with his Dad’s friends on weekends and was never asked to write in anyone’s yearbook.
He should still be ignored. Still be slapped by women, and punched squarely in the nose by real men.
Now. I’ll tell you how I really feel…
July 21st, 2008 at 2:43 pmOn the bright side, maybe if enough people turn off their tvs then the idiots who run CNN will get the message. I’m not calling for a boycott, I’m hoping the country is caught up in a wave of commonsense.
July 21st, 2008 at 2:43 pmzimsone, you forgot to add that in college he was one of those fratrat losers who would blame their bad grades on “liberal professors” instead of poorly thought-out arguments and mulitple typos. (see previous thread)
July 21st, 2008 at 2:46 pmThere’s that Clinton News Network Librul Media for you!
July 21st, 2008 at 2:46 pmI don’t understand people who watch Beck and O’Reilly, and slurp up everything they have to offer.
I doubt it took even five minutes for most of the commenters here to figure out what these losers were about.

July 21st, 2008 at 2:52 pmBLECCCCCCCHHHHHH!
July 21st, 2008 at 2:54 pmI wonder if the beckster will be wearing his freshly pressed white robe and hood with his Swastika ring while hosting?
July 21st, 2008 at 2:55 pmI think these so-called news networks should be required to drop the the word “news” from their names. We have rules on food labeling so that the consumer knows what they are getting, we should similar requirements for media.
July 21st, 2008 at 2:55 pmwho is the guest going to be?
July 21st, 2008 at 2:56 pmWhy on earth doesn’t the Corporate Criminal Network just go with the ‘All Ben Gleck 24 X 7′ format?
July 21st, 2008 at 2:56 pmBeck also has the worst ratings in his regular time slots, and not by a small margin either.
Also he’s been losing audience share, week upon week, for almost the entire time he’s been on CNN.
Is Larry King getting married again?
Or is he undergoing suspender bypass surgery?
I can’t imagine how Larry’s regular viewers are going to react.
July 21st, 2008 at 2:59 pmUgh! Beck hates lots of people. In hating, he does not discriminate.
July 21st, 2008 at 2:59 pmWe all need to start a boycott of CNN and it’s sponsors. They have already gone too far when they hired this racist, women hating, low life pig. The only way to get to CNN is through the companies who advertise on their network. The actual company has been taken over by former Bushee’s and rightwing nuts to believe CNN was a liberal leaning news organization. Now CNN with people like John Roberts, Glenn Beck, Wolf Blitzer, etc, have suddenly turned Fox Lite on it’s viewers. Even Andersen Cooper has gotten in on the act favoring McCain over Obama. They clearly are a network headed for the right wing side on politics and have lost all journalistic intergrity as far as I’m concerned. I just want the news with no spin and reporter bias. Even MSNBC has become to cozy with the Republican party and the right wing in particular.
July 21st, 2008 at 3:02 pmBeck’s the best they could do? C’mon, CNN — is EVERYBODY else on vacation?
July 21st, 2008 at 3:02 pmOn Friends: “I don’t have a lot of friends, and I think part of it is, that in an open conversation, I always say something wrong, and then it is a nightmare.”

He went to college? Flock U, perhaps…
July 21st, 2008 at 3:05 pmMore from Beck:
On killing filmmaker Michael Moore: “I’m thinking about killing Michael Moore, and I’m wondering if I could kill him myself, or if I would need to hire somebody to do it. No, I think I could. I think he could be looking me in the eye, you know, and I could just be choking the life out — is this wrong?”

You think that truth-in-labeling might require them to call what they produce “a news-like substance”? “imitation news with enhanced news flavor blasts”? “news helper — just add facts”?
July 21st, 2008 at 3:06 pmCNN has been trying to sell this stale “product” ever since they mistakenly signed him to a big contract. Time Warner–time to cut your losses and stow this rusty tool back in the shed.
July 21st, 2008 at 3:06 pmI’d like to see Jesse Ventura as his guest…Beck says something particularly annoying to Ventura, who does a ‘piledriver’ on Beck.

I’ve always seen it as having southern, bigoted bias. It’s true colors are just getting clearer by the day.
The tv sucks for news, the BBC, Guardian, and liberal blogs is where progressives should look for unbiased and non corporate reporting.

Beck is to true Journalism what Cheney is to honest Government…
July 21st, 2008 at 3:22 pmBeck is 44 and looks old enough to be McCain’s brother. King is 74 and looks old enough to be McCain’s dad. What’s in the water at CNN?
July 21st, 2008 at 3:23 pmLividLib,
The tonic for angry arseholes is a big dab of Freedhem. It’s working like gangbusters in the Middle East. I believe Mr. Beck is a huge fan of inflammatory reduction. Sarcastically,

they’re both ‘recovering’ alcoholics..shhhh…
July 21st, 2008 at 3:25 pmCNN lost me long ago and Beck was the main reason

Too damn funny, miss! :D
“Fun-size sound-bites with ‘Stupida’(™) artificial fact sweetener.”
Waaay back when I was about 10 helping my mum with the shopping we bought some packaged cherry pies as a convenient dessert treat (instead of mum having to rustle up pears in cream cheese with grape-halves and scratch-made chocolate sause doused with Kirsch, or Bananas Malayan or some-such).
The cherry pies tasted like “old bus tickets” ( my mother’s exact words) and when we examined the actual ingredients on the box we discovered that the cherry component was actually “cherry-shaped pieces”—but of what, we were given no clue.
As this is such an abiding memory of mine I think I can reasonably identify that experience as the moment when I embraced healthy cynicism.
Your comment just reminded me of that 40-ish year-old memory!
July 21st, 2008 at 3:32 pmI use to read and watch the ‘news’ when it was reported with regard to factual information. Now I try to find the facts where I can, on the net or between the lines. The reporters are either lying or stupid…or stupid liars. I find no satisfaction in news that supports my ideal if there are no facts to back up the story. The Right never reports the truth just their fascist ideology.
July 21st, 2008 at 3:36 pmJeff G: The tv sucks for news, the BBC, Guardian, and liberal blogs is where progressives should look for unbiased and non corporate reporting.
Or as the Guardian has long been known in certain circles; “The Grauniad”. :D ( It was famous for its typos back in my day, but its always been a very intelligently written paper, and still is.
July 21st, 2008 at 3:37 pmRUCerious,
By “enlisting” you mean putting on a uniform, picking up a rifle and defending Bush’s ego? No not yet.
They are still doing their part to secure America’s Freedom by running copies of flyers for McWirestouching and small errands for Daddy and getting paid handsomely for their efforts.

July 21st, 2008 at 4:15 pmHow did this self-anointed self-loving slimy slug get a show of his own?
July 21st, 2008 at 4:21 pmBeck is a smirking, misinformed, bigot. It’s very sad to see CNN giving him more air time, when he deserves to be removed altogether. He gives wrong information, smears, presents his own sleazy opinions as fact, is bigoted, and just plain isn’t amusing either, though he thinks he is. I watched a few minutes of his show once or twice & tuned out– he doesn’t even have any charisma to warrant watching his childish tirades. Poor CNN if he<s all they could come up with.
July 21st, 2008 at 4:23 pmBeck was fired from radio for offensive, bigoted, language. When Headline News announced that he was getting a show, I wrote to them to tell them I would never watch Headline News again. I haven’t and I will never watch this moron, no matter how they spread his bigotry around. We already have FAUX and we do not need more haters on the air.
July 21st, 2008 at 4:24 pmBeck is a LIAR, TRAITOR and sub-human SLIME.
REAL Americans know it.
Only MORONS believe TREASONOUS LIARS like Beck.

July 21st, 2008 at 4:26 pmCNN, the Fox Wannabe Network.
CNN has gone down a long ways since the day Turner sold out to Time Warner.
July 21st, 2008 at 4:42 pmHow ignorant can one get? And this jerk went to college, educated, so perfect? Right…It goes to show you…You can be all that and still be ignorant and narrow minded. And he has children? What a great lesson he is teaching his kids. I’m a mother and you set an example. Is this a good example?
July 21st, 2008 at 6:26 pmHe acts like an almighty Christian. He needs to pull his head out of the GOP’s ass. What a fraud.
July 21st, 2008 at 6:54 pmGlenn Beck does not like people to know he is a devout Mormon. He spends some time fund raising for the Mormon religion. Maybe its time to ask Glenn how his Mormon upbringing affected his political views. I’m thinking this fact would reduce his popularity among right wing ‘christians’
July 21st, 2008 at 9:44 pmlisten to “right now” by korn
that song pretty much describes how i feel about glenn beck
July 21st, 2008 at 10:02 pmWhy is CNN letting their worst talk show host (in terms of ratings and content) host one of their marquis programmes? Oh yeah, because Beck is a Republican.
Why is CNN trying to force this moron down our throats?
July 21st, 2008 at 11:17 pmWe should just give Glenn his dream…make him the king of all the Mormon FLDS clans, find a nice uninhabited island to put them all on and then when Obama is sworn-in as president, send the SEALS in to put Glennsie on the return flight for the Gitmo detainees. Lets see our tough talkin’ con’ie talk himself out of the video playing of him saying, that said people should be “shot in the head” and that he’d do it. Life-meet-end for the king of the prairie people.
July 22nd, 2008 at 12:34 amThis guy, Beck, couldn’t seem like more of a nazi, even if he was wearing jackboots and an armband. He is so obviously a nazi, and not just in the knee jerk, I-wanna-insult-a right-winger-so-I-call-him-a-nazi, way. He really IS a nazi, through and through. It is as obvious as anything can be. He is the reason I never, ever watch CNN. They are just as far in the tank to the fascists an fox news.
July 22nd, 2008 at 10:45 amGlenn Beck has a job at CNN because it’s run by crackpot Zionists.
July 22nd, 2008 at 11:06 pmObviously this is a liberal site so that is likely the answer to my question. I am not a long time listener to Glen Beck. But I do find him very interesting and have great ideas. My question is how can so many of you have (people posting on this site) have such strong views against him? I would say its safe to say that you haven’t listened to the show. And no one is disputing anything he specifically said (other than some short quotes taken out of context). Oh and in response to a post from JaneaneTheAcerbicGoblin, he may have low ratings from CNN but thats because tv media is so liberal. He is the third most listen to radio broadcaster in the World. Obviously he is well liked by many people. Just keep in mind its ha=rd to criticize when you dont listen to the message.
