Bush: ‘I do know about YouTube.’

Bush: ‘I do know about YouTube.’

On Saturday, the Arizona Star reported that President Bush asked the audience to turn off recording devices at a Friday fundraiser, afraid that his remarks could be posted to YouTube:

So sensitive were Republicans about information getting out about the goings-on at the Tucson fundraiser hosted by President Bush Friday morning, even W. himself made sure to ask the 400 or so people at the event to turn off any recording devices.

I don’t know a lot about technology,” the president said, according to one insider, “but I do know about YouTube.

President Bush’s technological incompetence is long-standing; his familiarity with YouTube seems to be a new development. After CNN held the first-ever YouTube Democratic presidential debate, former White House press secretary Tony Snow was asked, “Did [Bush] watch the debate?” Snow responded, “I don’t think so. I don’t think he’s big on YouTube debates.”

Good to know McCain would carry on the tradition of ignorance in the WH.

Sort of like a DC version of dumb and dumber.

  2. StratRat says:

Seems like Bush is an elitist. He can’t understand why YouTube has grown in popularity over the last few years as a way for all citizens to inform themselves. The internets are ‘evening out the playing field’ with regard to information accessible to all – not just the administration approved MSM.

Whether or not Bush likes or uses YouTube is irrelevant. The fact that he didn’t want his words recorded should be the focus of this story. Why all the secrecy, Mr. Bush?

Having caught some of Chimpy’s babbling about the economy last week I suggest he ask that the cameras be turned off during his press conferences as well. Might salvage what little is left of his dignity.

  7. RobertSeattle says:

    Mr Bush – spell “YouTube”…

  8. misshusseinmolly says:

Why is Bush afraid of his remarks being posted to YouTube? Was he giving out classified information at this fundraiser? Was he planning on telling a tasteless rape joke? Was he afraid somebody might make fun of his Bushlexia flubs?

I can’t believe that in the seven and a half years he’s been President, he hasn’t grasped the idea that the President tends to be photographed, recorded, filmed, taped, and documented wherever he goes. Maybe it was just a way to let people know that he’s “up-to-date” because he knows what YouTube is.

This makes him only about three years out of touch.

    ______

Well what else do you expect him to do – say stuff that doesn’t directly contradict something he said in the past?

That’s a pretty tall order, eh?

  10. CitiDC says:

Bush knows technology – he’s just supposed to feign ignorance so no one will seek his records.

He’s commented before that he really misses e-mailing his buddies.

And here he is at Camp David with a computer at the ready.

It’s the whole Rovian/Cheney strategy of hiding incriminating electronic communications.

  11. NOLIESPLEASE says:

Don’t know much about anything Mr. Bush accept to lie cheat and steal. That you do know.

  13. shoeless says:

The president said, according to one insider, “but I do know about U-Tube. The U-Tube is not something you just dump something on. It’s not a U-Haul truck. It’s a series of U-Tubes.”

  14. Praedor says:

Are we sure he didn’t say “…I do know about the you tubes?”

  15. mauro7inf says:

John McCain. Change you can believe in.

McCain presents a change from Bush. He won’t be another four years of the same. For instance, Bush is aware of YouTube, whereas McCain is not. Bush is (presumably) aware of where countries are when he talks about them (I’m actually not sure about this one), whereas McCain is not. Bush is aware of the internets, whereas McCain is only aware of one. See, big difference.

John McCain. Bringing back the vacuum tube.

I’m astounded the chymp didn’t mix up MyTube with U-Space.

Or perhaps post a video of Bush/McCain malaprops made from the raw footage, to tie the Tweedle Bros. together, at the lip.

  18. 5th Estate says:

“I don’t know a lot about technology,” the president said, according to one insider, “but I do know about YouTube.“

“Another thing I don’t know about” Bush continued, “is pencils, an’ reporters from the Arizona Star an’ such.
Frankly I don’t spend a lot of time thinking about pencils an’ people putting words in their mouths an’ kew-otes an’ all…and..uh…you know…golf!–’cause I gave it up! when…when I heard some people say some things about… about what’s goin’ on the world…an’ our children…, so in other words–LET ME FINISH—in other words, by asking everyone to turn-off their You-Tubes I reckon’ no-one can record anything I say.”

  19. RUCerious says:

You see, my friends, it’s simple. The Sunnys they use MyTube, and the Shitites, they’re more like U-Spaceers…

  20. RUCerious says:

Heavens to Mergatroid! Nobody should be able to record what the chymp doesn’t want recorded. It’s not like they’re not recording every damn thing we say… Just sayin…

  21. galmud says:

Maybe Bush should have thought of this 7 years ago and kept his mouth permanently shut. Now its too late. There are thousands of stupid Bush quotes on Youtube already. One more makes no difference.

In that the picture is of a non-photoshopped joke that would be appropiate. How about Jeff Gannon’s web page?

  23. Leftside Annie says:

Oh, Chimpy? The YouTube knows all about YOU!

maura7inf: John McCain. Bringing back the vacuum tube.

your whole comment was great, mauro. :)

  25. Bob says:

What was he most afraid would be posted? What would be said at a republican fundraiser that shouldn’t be repeated? The where-abouts of UBL? Why nothing was done after the Aug.6 PDB? 9/11 was an inside job? That they knew Iraq was not a threat? What he really thought as people were dying after the Gulf hurricanes? The sites of the mass graves?

If they had any morals, they wouldn’t need to be concerned.

  26. 5th Estate says:

Wow. That sounds like a guy at the country club, cocktail in his hand, making snide remarks about everybody.

    How elitist.

  28. pakaal says:

Gosh, McCain taking Kompewter lessons, Bush finding about teh U-Tubez….

It fills me with happiness to think that when, finally, they complete their long, arduous journey into the 21st century, it won’t be a completely alien world to them.

  29. Bozo The Neoclown says:

Poor lil chimperor, worrying about “them thar you tubes”. Little does he know his ignorant ass and the dumb stuff he says has spawned a new website “Youboob!”

  30. Zooey says:

What is the Chimperor saying that he doesn’t want on YouTube?

Did they kill everyone at the fund-raiser after they got the money? Or just make them sign non-disclosure agreements?

  31. Technodaoist says:

    Why, how refreshingly honest…

    …if alarmingly so.

  32. shoeless says:

    Bob Says:

What was he most afraid would be posted? What would be said at a republican fundraiser that shouldn’t be repeated?

It doesn’t look good on film when Bush’s entire speech consists of “Show me the money!”

  33. Zimzone says:

McCain’s ‘Town Hall’ meetings are private, invitation only.

Bush’s ‘Town Hall’ meetings were private, invitation only.

    McCain is essentially technologically illiterate.

    Bush is essentially technologically illiterate.

Bush has failed in every job in the private sector.

McCain has NEVER had a job in the private sector.

    See…they have differences…

  34. Badger says:

Maybe Bush didn’t want his picture taken with 400 people who have become DAZZLINGLY WEALTHIER during his presidency.

  35. nanlichi says:

A friend of mine ponied up the $1,000 to hear the Chimperor last week. He told me about the YouTube comment. Some other highlights:

Bush says he is not a legacy guy, that there are three historians right now writing about George Washington, so it’s a little premature to worry about the Bush legacy.

Iraq was the right thing to do.

McCain is obviously the right man for the USA.

That the people praying for him give him strength and substantiates that he is doing the right thing.

The Republican candidate for Pima County Dog Catcher was far and away the best man for the job.

(I made up the last one, heh, heh, heh)

If Bush is the kind of guy who believes in the Power of Prayer, that should scare the holy shit out of him. How many Americans are praying that dickweed falls in front of a bus?

Please Jesus, off that idiot and I swear I will never stray.

  38. Wayne A. Schneider says:

Yeah, sure. I bet Bush knows as much about YouTube as he does about aluminum tubes.

  39. ScaryBrownHusseinChick (ThinkOutsideTheBush) says:

After the cameras were off, Chimpy began by doing the hokey pokey. “You put your left foot in, you take your left foot out…”

George “SURRENDER MONKEY” Bush is spreading the message by keeping it secret. No. Wait. WTF?

  42. thomthum says:

OK now that he has “the YouTubes” down, time for him to get familiar with U-Haul!

Bush: ‘I do know about YouTube.’

Guess everyone will now have to re-evaluate their claim that you don’t know a goddamned thing …………..

  44. Saint Augustine says:

Zimzone: To be technically correct concerning McSame’s employment, between April 1981 and January 1983, he worked for Hensley & Co., his father-in-law’s Anheuser-Busch beer distributorship, as Vice President of Public Relations.

  45. TeleMan says:

The only reason he knows about the YouTube is because of George Allen’s Macaca moment. He knows a single slip can be disaster.

  46. foolme1ns says:

Bush doesn’t want anyone holding his own words against him. Republicans are a breed to themselves, and inbreeding explains a lot. I have never seen a more disreputable party in my life. The secrecy is unprecedented. Since Bush took office OUR government has been run like a fraternity club with secret meetings, secret deals, and secret crimes. There has never been a more secretive, suspicious administration in the history of the United States.

  47. I. B. Leary says:

Skull & Bones Man! Skull & Bones. I wonder how many Bushies have coat hanger tats? Maybe none but, I bet he wanted to, HA!

  48. SP Biloxi says:

Bubble Boy Bush and Grandpappy McSame are certainly the 21st century of Dumb and Dumber with FDR mentality. McSame doesn’t know how to use computer and the Clown President doesn’t know the YouTubes or use emails but knows the Internets and The Google (maps of Crawford Ranch).

  49. Marie says:

Of course he knows about youtube.
He’s seen himself acting stupid during cultural dances, wearing those costumes, trying to open doors, and of course, his many, many, many verbal gaffes, lies and fabrications.
