Hannity scores $100 million contract.

The Wall Street Journal reports that Fox News host Sean Hannity has signed a $100 million contract with ABC Networks and Premiere Radio Networks to cover five more years of his radio show. The deal will allow both ABC and Clear Channel to distribute his show, starting in December. Rush Limbaugh recently signed a $400 million contract with Premiere. (HT: Radar Online)

If the Fairess Doctrine were still in place, Hannity and Limbaugh would be third-string infomercial hawkers.

But smear and fear sells in the current market.

Those cons love to hate and that is why they pay these lying morons like Hannity and Lipbone.

Now he has five more years to warn us all about the "liberal media". And considering that Mitt Romney owns Clear Channel, I'm sure they will do wonders for McCentury's campaign.

  9. StratRat Says:

Seems the right side needs to continually validate and re-validate their positions by ensuring their watercarriers are able to spew their hate to our Low Information Voters (LIV).

I certainly don't begrudge Hannity for commanding that type of compensation, I am ashamed that there is that much of an audience for his bile.

The 23%r's will never get cured.

  11. bluefish Says:

I'm surprised it wasn't an eight-year deal. Surely Hannity won't run out of "Obama's a Muslim" and "Obama's Christian preacher is evil!" material in just five years?

  12. Paul W Says:

Is it any wonder this country is so screwed up when hate mongering fools like Hannity and Limbaugh pass for mainstream political discourse?

This is the downside of living in a free-enterprise system, to be sure. But if I call for silencing Hannity and his ilk, then what's stopping someone to call for silencing me?

As long as there's a Hannity audience, there will always be a Hannity. All I can do is make a note of who advertises on his show, and recognizing that part of every dollar I spend with one of his advertisers goes to fund his hate-spewing. This will still respect Hannity's right to free speech, it just helps take away the reach of it.

Now I just need a current list of his advertisers...

I think in this case -- considering that Clear Channel has always been a GOP stooge -- they will do what they can to promote the neocon agenda regardless of what neocon owns them.

Perhaps they are using the "wait and see" approach? When Obama takes over in Jan and the dems get a firm stranglehold on the House and Senate, perhaps Faux and the majority of Hate radio will slowly fade into oblivion? One can hope and pray.... :)

Interesting. I did not know that. Now we know how Mitt got on McCain's short list for VP. Should Romney get on the ticket, owning the world's largest Republican propaganda outlet should pose some serious conflict of interest issues.

  19. 5th Estate Says:

    So...
if you work hard in a competitive "free-market" society where your product satisfies a public demand. you'll get rich.

And when you product is the result of sheer laziness and the public rejects it because it's no longer competitive, you'll get even richer!

Because the "free-market" is owned by private corporations who used public money to finance private uncompetitive bids to buy and own the market.

And what's truly amazing is that Hannity could voice both those memes in the same breath and his audience wouldn't ever even question the complete lack of logic.

    __________________________________________________________

Unfortunately, it's the reverse that's often true. Hate broadcasting usually flourishes when there are targets in prominent positions. Rush Limbaugh started his radio show in 1988, but it really took off when he had Clinton to rail against.

The far right pundits (Limbaugh, Hannity, Coulter, Malkin, Savage, Beck, Boortz, etc. etc.) have were able to keep going during the six year "Republican Rule" period of 2000-2006 by continuing to blame all the world's ills on the Democrats, even though the fact that the Democrats had no power to affect anything during this time didn't matter to their audiences.

But even counting on the ignorance of their fans, this wasn't going to sustain them forever. Look at what a razor-thin margin of Dems in both houses of Congress has done for them. They have been so desperate to find somebody to lash out at and make it seem somewhat credible that they treat this like the Democrats are now Godzilla.

A Democrat in the White House and an actual WORKING Democratic majority in both houses of Congress would be manna from heaven for those who make their money slinging wingnut hate. They would be energized like never before. And the only way to throw water on their fire would be the Dems strengthening our country, making life better for the American people, and rebuilding our respect with the rest of the world. This would deny the Limbaughs of the world their angry audience, reducing their rants to mindless noise -- full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.

It is a little more complex than that. Romney was a partner at Bain and Company consultancy and was one of the founders of Bain Capital, which bought Clear Channel along with another investment partner.

But I am sure he does have some influence, whether direct or indirect on what may be shown on their billborads or that plays on their stations.

  37. Mr. Evil Says:

This goes to show you just how much disposable money really is out there. I don't know about Sean Hannity, but Rush has broken the law several times with little or no ramifications. Maybe we need a good, sneaky investigative reporter (if one actually exists anymore) to dig deep into the actual goings on between these two anti-American, lying blowhards.

  38. Chuck Feney Says:

    Limbaugh = $400 million
    Hannity = $100 million

So, we can conclude Sean is only a quarter of the man that Rush is. Which begs the question: what kind of man is Rush?

  39. Zimzone Says:

Hate Radio is Orwellian in nature. You don't need facts spoke, you need blame, slander, libel, you know, just make shit up.

Insannity learned it all from Limpdick. He stresses how he hard he had to work; 2 jobs, mowing lawns for rent, yada yada, but never mentions that, just like Beck, he's a College dropout.

He also revels in his Christianity, while, as a poster above noted, he's calling Obama a Muslim with a Christian Pastor.

This guy is dangerous. He's proud to carry the banner of Hate while quoting 'his' bible.

Religion, Politics & Retardation are a lethal mix. Huck Fannity

    Hannity, you make me sick.

why do I have my doubts about that?
Nice round number...looks good in a headline...free publicity..
who owns the Wall Street Journal?
I doubt that pile of bs, Hannity has the Howard Stern-like ratings in the desirable demos to pull that kind of deal.

I don't know anyone who listens to his crap, but then again I'm not in touch with a lot of people over 70.
I also don't see even the ubiquitous trolls popping up here to put in a good word for him.
I also believe that Drugs Limpball's numbers might be inflated for publicity reasons.
Why not, they bs about everything else under the sun.

I'm from the NYC area and I'm about the same age as Hannity. I know his type very well. I've also met people who went to high school with him. Trust me on this one:
Hannity is just another in a long line of fast talking New York bulls*** artists. He's carrying on a long tradition.
What I can't believe is that the red state suckers are still falling for his act.

  49. pete Says:

So. All we have to do to get stinking rich is remove 87% of our brains, and all human decency?

Not worth it at any price. I'll just continue to boycott Reichradio talk shows and any products they advertise during the Baseball game. (Note: The local nine is covered by the local Hitler Youth station. You would be amazed at how quickly I can change the station. As often as not, the final out is still in play.)

Looks like the combined wealth of Rush and Sean will be greater than the net wealth of their listeners.

I wonder when the rubes will wake up and realize that as their standard of living decreases, their favorite political talking heads SOL is going off the charts. Then, I wonder if they will ask themselves - who gets paid this kind of money to tell the truth? Answer: No one does. But getting people to vote against their best interests is apparently worth at least a 1/2 billion dollars in today's market.
