O’Reilly Attacks Gore For Attending Netroots Nation: ‘The Same As If He Stepped Into The Klan Gathering’»

oreilly.jpgOn Saturday, former Vice President Al Gore made a surprise appearance at the Netroots Nation convention in Austin, TX. In his speech, Gore praised the gathering of progressives, saying that they are part of an effort to “reclaim the integrity of American democracy.”

While the attendees of Netroots Nation received Gore with enthusiasm, his appearance has caused Fox News’s Bill O’Reilly to declare that Gore has “gone off the deep end.”

On his radio show today, O’Reilly claimed that Gore was now associating himself with the most “hateful group in the country.” “And I’m including the Nazis and the Klan in here,” said O’Reilly.” He then claimed that attending Netroots Nation was “the same as if he stepped into the Klan gathering”:

O’REILLY: Al Gore now is done. He’s done. Ok. He is not a man of respect, he doesn’t have any judgment. The fact that he went to this thing is the same as if he stepped into the Klan gathering. It’s the same. No difference. None. K, he loses all credibility with me. All credibility.

Listen here:

It’s no surprise that O’Reilly is attacking Netroots Nation given his previous verbal assaults on its predecessor YearlyKos. Before the YearlyKos conference last year, O’Reilly compared it to “a David Duke convention.”

But O’Reilly exposes the hyperbolic shallowness of his name calling when he claims that “these Daily Kos people” are worse than “the Nazis and the Klan,” but then assures his audience that they won’t “come to your house and hurt you.”

Note to O’Reilly: The Nazis and the Klan actually hurt people.

Transcript:

O’REILLY: Ok, now he shows up on Saturday at the most hateful, there is not — and I’m including the Nazis and the Klan in here — there is not a more hateful group in the country than these Daily Kos people. Now, will they come to your house and hurt you? I don’t know, probably not. But, do they want to hurt you? Do they say terrible things about Tony Snow when he dies? All day long. Ok. Hateful hateful hateful. The rhetoric that they use and the rhetoric that the Klan and the Nazis use are the same rhetoric. It’s hate. Everyone knows that.

Now why would you go to a convention sponsored by these people when you know that currently on the Kos is stuff about Tony Snow, it’s good that he’s dead, he’s in hell, all of that. But Gore did, Gore went there. So did Nancy Pelosi. That disqualifies Gore from any serious consideration by me in the future. Al Gore now is done. He’s done. Ok. He is not a man of respect, he doesn’t have any judgment. The fact that he went to this thing is the same as if he stepped into the Klan gathering. It’s the same. No difference. None. K, he loses all credibility with me. All credibility.

UpdateMark Potok of the Southern Poverty Law Center told David Neiwert that O'Reilly's comparison "utterly trivializes the very real problems, the real violence and hatred, caused by the Klan and groups like them."

Bill O. knows hate. I’m not sure everyone at NetRoots Nation fill Bill’s handy projection. Two friends went and found the session informative. They don’t fit the Klan or Nazi mold.

Wouldn’t spewing lies about Tony Snow make us no different than Tony Snow and the dishonest administration he served so loyally and without question ?

O’Reilly claimed that Gore was now associating himself with the most “hateful group in the country.

    - - Ahh, I see Gore must have his own “news” program on Fox News then.

  8. paleolib Says:

What profit a man to gain a Nobel Peace Prize and an Academy Award but to lose the “respect” of Bill O’Reilly?

Somehow I think Al Gore will get over it. Dude’s had a pretty good decade.

  9. dasm Says:

Wow - O’Reilly proves again he is an incompetent, useless, blowhard. Exactly who does O’Reilly have credibility with?? Umm…. silence? No one? Maybe his force-fed viewers? Losing all credibility- All credibility– O’Reilly, that describes you perfectly. A loser, losing all credibility = O’Reilly. And, sadly, he just doesn’t get it.

  10. tom Says:

He is not a man of respect, he doesn’t have any judgment.

Of all people, you would think that Bildo would have more empathy for someone whom he describes in terms that are exactly what he himself is. I mean, really, even though Gore is the exact opposite of what Bildo said.

The thing that rant-jockeys like Bildo, Insanity and Limpballs don’t get is that Gore is apolitical. He isn’t running for office and he isn’t partisan. His self-described goal is to expand the political space for future presidents and legislators to take bold steps in achieving energy independence. It really doesn’t matter if the next majority is Republican’t or Democratic. In either case, climate change will continue to progress and we will consume oil as we always have in the past unless we change our habits and pursue new technologies.

  11. stateofthedivision Says:

You’d think it was NewBoots Nation, except that meeting was held north of Austin. That was the Repugnicant version. Bob Barr dropped into NetRoots. Did Bill O. comment on that?

  12. pete Says:

Hateful? If Bill0 means “those who hate the crimes committed in our names by pinheads like Bill0″ he’s absolutely right. Enjoy your decent into, well deserved, obscurity you bloviating assbag. Yeah , I guess being the former Vice President , an Academy Award and Nobel Prize winner , and the REAL duly elected President of the US back in 2000 are all rendered meaningless now , you bald-headed freak ………

According to you the “Kos crowd” is the worst ; yet , you have no problem carrying water for the most dishonest and criminal president and administration in US history , who has also disregarded the rule of law and crapped all over the Constitution.

What a crazy , stupid piece of crap O’Lielly truly is………

Has Al Gore stopped laughing about this yet?

You know, Bill-O, the whole Netroots thing would probably get a lot less attention if you guys on the right who hate it so much would just keep your mouths shut. You know the MSM isn’t going to say much about it, but they’ll happily talk about any rants the Fox News people publicly air. So now you’re giving them free publicity. I scan DKos several times a day, and I just can’t find the hate. Can someone point it out to me?

As far as I can tell, it’s a pretty reasonable left-wing take on the political news of the day, with a special focus on the electoral process.

It’s certainly no worse than any other site I’ve seen recently, and a lot better than some.

Where’s the hate that has Bildo in such a state?

  42. pete Says:

I’m reminded of when my late father, a lifelong Republican with moderate views, realized what Bill0, and Faux, really represent. As I recall, Bill0’s remark was, “anyone who claims to be a moderate is just a liberal who lacks the conviction to admit it”.

It prompted the third, and final, “F-bomb” I ever heard from my dad and caused him to cancel cable. I’m proud to say that I have followed his example and will never subscribe to cable so long as “corporate news” exists.

Doesn’t that make him, also, a cowardly POS.

BTW, Mr. Moyers is on the record, several times, agreeing to appear on the Factor if Bill0 agrees to appear on Moyers’ Journal. The chirping of crickets is deafening.

I’m sure Al Gore will consider this a badge of honor. I always want to be on whatever side Bill O’Reilly isn’t.

  73. pbg Says:

The thing that’s so wonderful about BillO is that he really, truly honestly believes that the sun rises and sets for him. Netroots/Kos is obviously the most hateful group in America because they hate him. That’s the criterion that overrides anything else. there are louder organiations on the left, and bigger ones, but That group hates him, Bill O’really, and so it’s the worst thing in creation.
That’s one of the fascinating things about O’Reilly. He walks around in a fog, does not remember what he says from day to day, but whatever pops into his head at any given moment is gospel. America laughs at him for his “Where’s my iced tea, m/fer?” and he just doesn’t get it. He’s not a racist, not Bill O’Reilly, so nothing he says can possibly be racist!
He has no self knowledge whatsoever. He’s always right because he’s the center of the universe. It’s pretty amazing.

Some day, Bill will get a deal worth more than Hannity’s, but will it be more than Limbaugh’s? You’re right, I don’t care either).

  83. Innocent Bystander Says:

Nice to see O’Reilly reform the recent history of Nazi’s. Bill could never have gotten away with this BS in the 60’s-70’s….there’d be too many people alive that would know 1st hand of the real Nazi evil and they would have condemned his anti-American false equivalences so fast that his seat would have been vacated before the program was over.

Obviously, the most dangerous group in America is Faux News and its viewers! Billo is now slamming his head into the wall for inspiration for what his daily rants should be, Hannity is taking his waffling cues from John “I should be a janitor and I have the IQ for a lower position should you offer it” Bolton and Faux & Frauds will come up with jibberish to run as some opinionated news story, only to have it make sense to the viewers who have the secret decoder rings!

It’s great that these people have John McCain’s back, front and junk…because when Obama starts his bombing run on him in September and this gets “damn real”, there won’t be enough knives available in the NYC area for all the hatchet jobs Faux News will be doling out to save themselves from “The End”.

  92. Robt Says:

I assume that Billo making this statement is very familiar with Klan meetings himself. Has first hand knowledge, even.

I sometimes wonder if Bill is in competition with Micheal Savage?

  93. Miss_Direction Says:

If little O says NN is the same as the Klan well..

Bill O’Reilly now is done. He’s done. Ok. He is not a man of respect, he doesn’t have any judgment. The fact that he would dare trivialize the death and destruction wrought by the Klan is the same as if he spat in the face of countless ethnic victims…their families…and the nation as a whole. It’s the same. No difference. None. He loses all credibility with me. All credibility!

  94. valawstudent Says:

Actually, I think the Klan rally has been rescheduled and is now being held at Bill-O’s house. It’s a potluck, so everyone bring your appetites. BYOB too!

  95. Evil Spaniard Says:

Do tell, BillO, how are Klan gatherings? I never stepped in one.

  96. Sans Says:

Bill O’ would definitely know what a klan rally would be like, and most definitely know about going off the deep end. Bill O’ is just some racist, ignorant ( which goes hand in hand with racism), pervert with a big mouth.

  97. Big Steve Says:

Okay, we’ll do it live! DO IT LIVE!

  98. Big Steve Says:

O’Reilly and his boss Rupert Murdock fear the real democratic debate of the progressive Internet movement because Fox News cannot control that debate. So, I expect these attacks to continue. We can only hope that O’Reilly, Savage, et. al., continue to marginalize themselves off the airwaves.

  99. freeman Says:

Bill O’reilly is hate spech personified , little doubt individuals with the values of the KKK, love this guy . Ignorance on overdrive . everyone knows that !
