CNN Highlights Racist Writings To Argue That An Obama Presidency Could ‘Hurt Black Americans’

sailer.gif Today, CNN’s John Blake has an article titled, “Could an Obama presidency hurt black Americans?” In the piece, Blake notes that some commentators — including African-Americans, whites, Latinos, and conservatives — warn that “an Obama victory could be twisted to suppress the push for racial equality.” One of the white commentators Blake cites is Steve Sailer:

Steve Sailer, a columnist for The American Conservative magazine, wrote last year that some whites who support Obama aren’t driven primarily by a desire for change. [...]

“So many whites want to be able to say, ‘I’m not one of them, those bad whites. … Hey, I voted for a black guy for president,’ ” Sailer wrote.

Sailer cited another reason why many whites want Obama as president:

“They hope that when a black finally moves into the White House, it will prove to African-Americans, once and for all, that white animus isn’t the cause of their troubles. All blacks have to do is to act like President Obama - and their problems will be over.”

It’s unbelievable that CNN would use Sailer, who, as Jesse Taylor notes, is more than just a conservative pundit. He has repeatedly made racially insensitive remarks, including:

African-Americans “tend to possess poorer native judgment than members of better-educated groups. Thus they need stricter moral guidance from society” [Link]

– “The brutal truth: Obama is a ‘wigger’. He’s a remarkably exotic variety of the faux African-American, but a wigger nonetheless.” [Link]

– Michelle Obama “sounds like she’s got a log-sized chip on her shoulder from lucking into Princeton due to affirmative action.” [Link]

– “Nor is it surprising that the black refugees at the Superdome and the convention center failed to get themselves organized to make conditions more livable. Poor black people seldom cooperate well with each other because they don’t trust other blacks much, for the perfectly rational reason that they commit large numbers of crimes against each other.” [Link]

Several of Sailer’s comments appeared on the site VDARE, which the Southern Poverty Law Center has classified as a white nationalist hate group. It’s doubtful that Sailer’s opinions are representative of most whites.

Projection of the most blatant kind. Sailer is a racist, and I don't think he can wrap his mind around that idea that there are many, many white people who make up their mind about a candidate without factoring in race at all. And if he tried to grasp that there are also non-whites who make their decisions without factoring race into it, his head would probably explode.

My question is -- why would John Blake (or anyone at CNN for that matter) pay one whit of attention to anything this jerk has to say? CNN has been losing points with me for some time, but this makes their descent more rapid.

I shudder to think what these Repugandrethals would do if Obama was a female too.
It would be such a mess to cleanup after they all blew their brains out.
    oh well, maybe next time.

    MHM,
I have lost all respect for any of the MSM awhile ago. Sad, but true.

  5. IBTunion4obama Says:

Republicans/conservatives can't tolerate women, minorities, and poor people. Both of these idiots are probably somehow working on the McCain campaign or are big donors.

  6. Kryptik Says:

It’s doubtful that Sailer’s opinions are representative of most whites.

It is representative, however, of the need for the media to drum up an issue where there isn't one, since the issues already thrown out have grown lesser and lesser in impact the longer this campaign goes on.

I'm honestly waiting for a story about whether people worry Obama will enslave whites. Since, you know, the Daily Show is one of the few bastions of satire that reality and stupidity haven't trumped yet.

  7. gummitch Says:

It all makes perfect sense. We can't elect a black president, because then white racists could claim there wasn't any racism in this country anymore -- which is, of course, exactly what they claim now when they pretend to be "colorblind."

We must continue to only elect white presidents, or racism (which doesn't exist) will only get worse. In fact, we probably should stop electing them to any office and should make sure none of them achieve high positions in business -- because it would send the wrong message.

    Did I get that right?

  8. MCMetal Says:

Michelle Obama “sounds like she’s got a log-sized chip on her shoulder from lucking into Princeton due to affirmative action.”

Yeah , because we all know how much "better" nepotism works in Ivy League schools and for the country , right , you moronic racist piece of shit ?

  9. IBTunion4obama Says:

No equal pay for women! No black President! Tax breaks for the rich! ---THE Republican way---

  11. Jim Wolf359 Says:

Who was the Editor who vetted this piece of crap for a story at CNN? Are they that stupid and insensitive to the issue or are they really intent upon being FAUX NOIZE lite?

  12. MCMetal Says:

Look at the pic of that loser , too ; no wonder he doesn't want a black man as president.

He can't get any women now, with white men running the country .................Then again ; maybe he should take a look at those "men" , and why he supports them...........

  13. pete Says:

Personally? I have refused to subscribe to cable specifically to avoid supporting "corporate media" in any way, shape, or form. I'm afraid that they will never change as long as Americans keep sending in their checks. Boycott's and angry letters won't do it. The American public MUST stop paying them to lie to us.

  14. pete Says:

    Oh yeah.

Does this mental defective really think that his insane allegation, even if true, won't balance .00000001% of the "non racists" who just can't bring themselves to vote for a black man?

    What a tool.

  15. KayInMaine Says:

I swear the reason why the ROM (republican owned media) uses these neck drooling neocons on their shoes is so the illiterates can follow along, because otherwise, they just stare straight ahead drooling down their necks with a sea of static in their brains.

  16. rogerD Says:

This guy is a satirist, right? Does he do cartoons, too?

  17. Oval12345678 aka James K. Sayre Says:

CNN: Corporate Noisome Noise. They just can't shut up with all their stupid racist crap, can they?

  18. Keith Says:

I just read Blake's article and I am still dizzy. It seems that what I thought was up is not really up at all---it is down. What evidence did he give? Well, he said that "some commentators say...". I mean if someone is allowed to write on a white nationalist site, then it must be true! And people think CNN is liberal?!?

  19. KayInMaine Says:

    CNN = Corporate Nutball News

    Bah hahahahahaha!

  20. paleolib Says:

Can we please stop pretending that CNN is any better than Fox "News"?!? They feature Lou Dobbs' racist ranting, pair up Glenn Beck and Nancy Grace on the Headline version at night and then have Beck substitute on Larry King Undead (which is kind of like having the reprehensible sub in for the merely venal). This is infotainment, not news.

  21. lokidog Says:

“Could an Obama presidency hurt black Americans?”

As opposed to the preceding 43 white guys who have only helped black Americans, of course.

    Duhhhhhhhh.........

  22. sectionop92 Says:

My vote for Obama is a vote to keep bigoted, racist, nationalist, faux-patriotic, saber-rattlers who think an iPhone is an optometry treatment, from setting this nation back another 30 years and making us an isolationist country with a currency that makes the peso and the ruble look like the monetary means of the 22nd century!

  23. MapleStreet Says:

Dumb Question: How many people interviewed were leaders of the black community ?

Being from the south, I'll fully agree that many forms of racism have become covert. I'm sure that Obama may influence this further.

But compare this to the gigantic wellspring of opening the presidency to a non-white. Compare this to the wellspring of H. Clinton opening the doors to the Y-chromosome deficient Americans.

Using CNN's logic, the blacks decry the Emancipation Proclomation as intensifying racism.

  24. I. B. Leary Says:

Projection for sure. Not like the fact that the Bush admin has hurt all races of Americans and continues the same path.

    Pete,
I dumped Cable for DirecTV. Still Corporate, but with them I at least have more options for cerebral shows in HD.
    Only Channels I watch.
    TLC
    DSC
    Smithsonian HD
    National Geographic HD
    History Channel HD
    DSCHealth
    Science Channel HD
    BBC America
    Food Network
    ESPN
    Speed

As far as I am concerned, all the other "Cable" and "MSM" channels are CRAP! and I refuse to watch it. I get my news from other sources, the above is great Entertainment.

  26. Zooey Says:

I continue to hope that Ted Turner will say something about the depths to which his "news network" have sunk. Guess it's too much to ask. The next sound you hear is Murdoch taking over CNN. Fox I and Fox II anyone?

What? No Sci-Fi channel? Apparently you're are not a fan of horrible movies.

Unfortunately, satellite providers are a revenue source for the "news" networks. They feed the same beast. I'm not suggesting anyone else follow my lead but, the only way I would consider cable or dish is if they cease paying corporate news altogether.

True "ala carte" service, where my check goes ONLY to the channels I want, is what it would take to get my patronage. And there's no way I will EVER provide a penny to the enemies of freedom who plague the "news" industry.

Besides which, I only missed cable for a few days. I get all the info I want, and more, on line and from PBS. I have found that I prefer to stare at my aquarium when I don't feel up to reading. And I don't have to wait for a commercial break to take a whiz!!!

But seriously. Network "news" won't change unless their revenue is threatened. I'm more than happy to do my part but I don't dis anyone who enjoys all the great T.V. that is out there. Heck! If the net didn't exist I would have every, single, channel myself. My curiosity would force me to, critically, watch cable "news" and I would be buried under a huge mound of magazines.

  29. Hussein McCain Says:

RandomChaos, Tucked out of the way somewhere on your channel selection you might get FSTV (Free Speech TV) and WorldLink, both great stations.

  30. Wayne A. Schneider Says:

This is what happens when an alleged news organization values "balance" over "objectivity". Considering his past statements, there is no need to seek this guy's public comments. Besides, you don't balance the truth with lies.

  33. CitizenX Says:

The host on KFI in LA opened her show with this drivel tonight. I was wondering where she got this crap from.

Seeing as she has been on an anti-Obama tirade recently, it is not surprising and this was one of those "just saying" kind of things from an alleged, not prejudiced white woman.

You can probably bet she was testing the waters.

He has repeatedly made racially insensitive remarks,

That kinda sugarcoats the unvarnished racism.

  37. tokin librul Says:

It’s doubtful that Sailer’s opinions are representative of most whites.

Most? probly you're right. But I'll give odds that, as insensitive as it is, he's quite right about a large plurality of white folks.

I suspect there'll be millions of (White) USer voters who declare they voted for Obama, which margin will not be reflected in the final count...

  38. Steaming Pile Says:

In other words, conservative columnists watch Carlos Mencia, the guy who made the word "beaner" somewhat acceptable in polite conversation. He suggested that if Sen. Obama were elected President, the race card would be rendered null and void.

“an Obama victory could be twisted to suppress the push for racial equality.”

These idiots won't be satisfied until they completely destroy this country. Does anything remotely positive come out of the traps of these fools?

This is just more divide and conquer bullshit.

  41. JerryJerr Says:

Hey Sailer, maybe that's how you view the world. Looking down on blacks by patronizing them by spewing this nonsense. It's pretty simple to vote for Obama over McCain and it has NOTHING to do with race.

Obama is well spoken, calm, cool, collected, and has a new vision for the country. McCain is suffering from Mild Cognitive Impairment and wants to continue the same old Bush like policies.

Senator Obama could be purple and he would get my vote.

  42. Leftside Annie Says:

    Crikey, that's ugly sh*t!!

Blake's and Sailer's nice white KKK sheets must at the cleaners, since they aren't wearing them...

  43. MapleStreet Says:

JerryJerr: I'd question your use of Mild when you said "Mild Cginitive Impairment". Otherwise, good post.

  44. BlackAdder Says:

OMG, I can't believe CNN would allow this guy to speak! After all, instead of showing what an ignorant racist he is, we should not allow the likes of Sailer to speak freely. In Ireland, it is AGAINST THE LAW to say such things as this Sailer says. We should have hate crime legislation in AMERIKKKA that reflects the best of Europe. Say anything about the Iraqi refugee males PIMPING OUT 12 YEAR OLD LITTLE GIRLS in England (check out British CRAIGSLIST: NO PIMPING ALLOWED.http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1031132/British-girls-young-14-trafficked-sex-UK.html), and booom YOUR IN JAIL PAL. You simply are NOT ALLOWED to tell people about different ethnic groups committing outrageous crimes. This could cause a 'nativist' reaction, and lead to more racism, naturally.

PLEASE help the cause of freedom, write the UK and Irish state, and get this racist Irish man put in jail for saying Africa is someplace less than desirable. This is racist, and he deserves at least 2 YEARS IN PRISON for this outrage, if not the death penalty. That will be comming soon enough!
Maybe we can learn from Ireland and England. Don't MESS with minorities!! PUT PEOPLE IN JAIL for writing negatively about RACE! FOR YEARS!!!!! LOOK at this shit, you can't believe his audacity!!

    http://www.independent.ie/opinion/columnists/kevin-myers/is-this-the-tolerance-that-our-thoughtpolice-take-pride-in-1438547.html

Is this the tolerance that our thought-police take pride in?

    By Kevin Myers

    Wednesday July 23 2008

ON THE one hand, I expected some uproar in Ireland over my piece about Ethiopia on July 10. But there really wasn't any. On the other, I didn't expect an attempt to jail me by a state-sponsored body. Yet Denise Charlton, of the Immigrant Council of Ireland, has urged An Garda Siochana to investigate me under a special law, by which I could be tried and imprisoned for two years without even the benefit of a jury.

    Oh, Denise, Denise,..........

  45. donmyers Says:

Seems CNN is on a roll...could we actually get back to the news without the uninformed or biased commentators?
