Coburn and conservatives protest the ‘Reid vengeance bill.’

Today, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) is introducing the The Advance America’s Priorities Act, which is “a package of about 40 bills that have in many cases been single-handedly stalled by one of the Senate’s more conservative members,” Sen. Tom Coburn (R-OK). But Coburn and other conservatives are not happy about Reid’s efforts to pass the bundle of popular, bipartisan legislation. Coburn took to the Senate floor last night to “protest” the upcoming bill “for more than an hour.” Bitter about Reid’s tactics, some conservatives have taken to referring to the bill as the “Reid vengeance bill.”

Uh-oh!! More unfairness toward the widdle Wepubwicans!!

    Better call the WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHmbulance!

  2. Laszlo Panaflex says:

These are the same guys who wanted to eliminate the filibuster just a few years ago. Will Reid et al. finally learn they can just ignore these bozos?

  3. Leftside Annie says:

Heh. Turnabout is fair play — so, how do you like it, you stupid Repuke barstids??

  4. Bilbo Hussein Baggins says:

Good, it’s about time. Payback’s a b|tch. Maybe this means that the Democrats are going to start playing hardball. I certainly hope so.

  5. spencers mom says:

Okay, Reid, but how about actually forcing the GOPer obstructionists to fillibuster day after day and night after night if they decide to not allow a vote on the megabill?

I mean, seriously, you do realize that your party is now in the majority, right????

    PEACE

  6. robbez_92107 says:

I thought it was called the Coburn Omnibus?

I DO like the sound of Reid’s Vengeance Bill better, though.

  7. robbez_92107 says:

Yup. Keep being proud of your preznit. History will vindicate you.

  8. robbez_92107 says:

And calling colleagues is considered elitist.

Since you are a W apologist, however, I assume you’ve got no problems with being “the guy at the party with a cocktail, making snide comments about everybody,” though.

  9. Bobwurst says:

these rightwingers have no idea what vengeance is.

  10. robbez_92107 says:

calling colleagues s/b calling colleagues “widdle one”

    sorry.

I wonder id it’s all packaging for his real agenda, because dems never want to fix anything. They depend too much on problems, thats why they perpetuate them. …understanding the oceans. me thinks there is more psychological terrorism buried in it. Just a guess. I’ll check it out.

Huh? Does this make sense to anyone?

  16. Uncle Ho says:

it was just a couple of years ago when the Rethuglic party held the reigns of power in the Senate, they threatened to use ‘the nuclear option’ to deny the Democrats any filibuster.

I say, Reid and the Democrats should ACTUALLY INVOKE IT!

After all, it was the Rethugs own idea. Use it on them.

  17. MapleStreet says:

Why do you say “vengance” like it is a bad thing?

Coburn has single handedly held up a long list of bills which are endorsed by both sides of the aisle. He has used this tactic of stalling to somehow bully others into submission.

I’d say a little righteous vengance, in the form of correcting this wrong, is quite a good thing.

Remember: Bullies blame the victim for fighting back.

  18. lokidog says:

Huh? Does this make sense to anyone?

Sort of. The wingnut says she’ll “check it out”, but is thoroughly confused if she believes she’ll find anything about “the oceans” by searching Bush’s bunghole, where they typically go for answers to whatever issue their diseased little minds are currently confused about.

  19. judyinnm says:

“Reid Vengeance Bill” sounds good, to me. Now, if we can just get the “Kucinich Vengeance Bill” (i.e. impeachment) brought to the floor of the House, there may be a chance for real Democratic leadership, at last.

  20. Yankeluh says:

So have the Senate Democrats been taking their one-a-day to increase their stamina? Will they shove this down the collective throat of the right-wing, or will they just prance around waving the bill in the air and let the GOP kill it again?

  21. Zooey says:

    Obstructionist whiners.

Republicans can’t govern — get rid of them.

  22. Winski says:

Get these repugs morons out of the way..They can’t get legislation passed that will take us back to 1860 (yes eighteen) so they try to stand in the way of non-slave bearing legislation..

    LOSERS!!!

  23. Innocent Bystander says:

    Dr. Hussein Matt Says:

The Emmitt Till Unsolved Crimes bill
    The Combating Child Exploitation bill
    The ALS Registry bill
The Christopher and Dana Reeve Paralysis Act

No wonder the reich-wingers hate this bill. This is meaningful legislation that will help Americans. The GOPigs rather focus on gay marriage and flag burning.

Help Americans instead of helping their personal Party agenda? What a concept.

I love how the troll bags bring up “Congress poll numbers”. Sure, I’m unhappy with Congress’s ability to move legislation. The answer is: elect more Democrats. Then we’ll start running more Progressive Democrats in the primaries.

Funny how they never break out the Congressional Party polling data by, you know, Party.

  24. bob hussein lablah says:

Maybe the right-wingers are most worried about these:

Effective Child Pornography Prosecution Act (HR 4120)
Enhancing the Effective Prosecution of Child Pornography (S. 2869/HR 4136)

    Got something to hide, Coburn?

  26. bonzo 1958 says:

I was almost feeling sorry for coburn (whiner) until he said

“It undermines truth and transparency in this country,” he said. “If you stifle debate, what you do is lose the benefit of the 100 senators who are here, who come from a diverse background with vast, different experiences.”

Those things have been gone for years.

  27. rmwarnick says:

And nobody in the Senate could figure out how to stop Bush’s unconstitutional FISA bill from being passed. Not even Senator (weak) Reid.

  28. Keith says:

Dems, do you even know that you are constantly being criticized for lacking a spine? Do you care? That is why your approval is at 14%. Stand up to these Repubs. That is what you were elected to do. Make them filibuster a popular bill. Play by the same set of rules that they do. Don’t say “No, we are above that”!

  29. Buckie Boy says:

    “Reid vengeance bill.”

    Better to call it…

    “America’s vengeance bill.”

    Reichwinger’s are scum.

  30. bob hussein lablah says:

    ronguell Says:

“helping improve America’s understanding about the oceans?” I’ll do it now. It Cold! Yea an it Deep Too! Reid is a loser.

Here you go, genius. I assume this is the bill you’re talking about, although there are a few related to oceanic research. But we just hate letting science get in the way of partisanship (not to mention racism), don’t we? Jacka$$.

“Ocean acidification is almost an irreversible change in the water’s chemical composition caused by increasing atmospheric concentrations of carbon dioxide, which dissolves in water, producing carbonic acid . According to a report from the Royal Society of London, a concerted effort to return the oceans’ pH to pre-industrial levels could take ten thousand years. With scarce research on effective treatments to ocean acidification, there is no telling how restoring—or failing to restore—the pH balance could affect ocean ecology and climate. What is certain is that marine ecosystems are fundamentally altered if their environment no longer contains the same chemical compositions they were built upon; thus, changes can harm coral reefs and diminish food supplies for various fish populations.”

Only one sock puppet? Are the moderators moderating?

    Back on topic:

Who would have thought that the U.S. House and Senate would be reduced to thwarting a President who has taken the bit in his teeth? The scary truth is that they are playing a dangerous game with a madman and his gang of handpicked sociopaths. Every little “victory” will serve to make Bushco more erratic and dangerous.

And is it not Ironic that the Reichwing still manages to make the “do nothing Congress” label stick (with 20%ers) when it’s the Republicriminals who have effectively blocked legislation and oversight?

Solid proof that Republicriminals don’t think. They scheme.

  32. RUCerious says:

When is Harry going to offer the GO FU CK YOURSELVES, YOU PUKES bill?

  33. RUCerious says:

Has Co-burninHell asked McIIIrd if he’s going to even bother to show up for a vote?

  34. bigeugene says:

Go Reid! I chuckle every time I read about this bill. Finally, some Machiavellian scheming by Dems! All’s fair…

  35. pete says:

    I’m not making predictions but…

It is possible that, as the pre-election polls come in, Dems will be encouraged to show some spine. I’m not holding my breath but they just might surprise us.

And there’s still no sign that the Republicriminals won’t be decimated in November. Even if the fools and racists manage to elect McPander Bear, a “veto proof” majority is all but assured.

  36. Constantine says:

How is it that Coburn can place a hold on 40 or so bills but neither Feingold nor Dodd could place a hold on the FISA bill? Can someone explain that to me?

  37. Constantine says:

Sorry, more specifically neither Feingold nor Dodd were allowed to place a hold on the FISA bill.

  38. zuch says:

Well, it’s not like the Republicans ever did any thing like this when they held the reins of Congress, no?

    Cheers,

  39. Left Coast Mike says:

Harry “the war is lost” “the surge has failed” Reid. How can one man be so wrong so many times

You would have to ask Bill Kristol

  40. Evil Spaniard says:

“Coburn and conservatives protest the ‘Reid vengeance bill.’”

    So whiney and angry people…

  41. FEARandSMEAR.com says:

    Reid? Vengeance?

Never seen hide nor hair of any such a thing…

In fact, the name has an oxymoronic quality that I would find amusing were it not something to weep over.
