Larry Craig wants to continue ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.’

craigmug.jpgToday, the House Armed Services Subcommittee on Military Personnel is holding the first congressional hearings on the military’s “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy in 15 years. To mark the occasion, the conservative news outlet CNSNews.com asked some members of Congress if they still support the discriminatory program. Sen. Larry Craig (R-ID), who was busted last year for allegedly trying to pick up another male in an airport bathroom, said that he believes “we ought to sustain it“:

Sen. Larry Craig (R-Idaho) told CNSNews.com, “Current policy has served us well. I think we ought to sustain it. I see no evidence that it should be repealed.”

He was also inquiring as to its effectiveness in airport mens rooms..........

Of course. After all, his own current policy of "don't ask, don't tell" has allowed him to sustain a marriage with a woman, and to convince himself that he is not gay and never has been gay -- not even for only a few minutes.

This is really surprising. I thought Larry had adopted the new "Don't Tap, Don't Gesture" (DTDG) policy.

    Of course he does.
And, BTW, he is not gay, has never been, gay.

  7. alphainfinityomega Says:

Yeah, lol; and he and Vitter want 'one man, one woman' legislation.

  8. Bobwurst Says:

Larry likes his sex repressed, angry, and "wrong". Being open about his urges takes all the fun out of it.

  9. RUCerious Says:

Hey Darlyy, wanna come on down and defend your NoI'mNotGayIJustHaveAWideStance repuglycan ?? Hmm?

  10. Buckie Boy Says:

He likes, "Tap, tap and Don't Tell"

"I not gay, nor have I ever been gay."

Going to be another good week on the Comedy Network with this one.

  11. Shayne Says:

Well Larry, even though you have a certain amount expertise in this area maybe it would be wiser for you to just STFU.

  12. Tweedster Says:

Can the Republicans get any more bizarre? Self-loathing must be a real bit<h huh Larry?

  13. larkohio Says:

Didn't Larry resign and then take it back? Ugh!
I can see no logical reason why gay folks cannot openly serve in the military. Their sexual orientation has NOTHING to do with their ability to do their jobs.

  14. Uncle Ho Says:

Larry Craig wants to continue 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell.

    Yes, but what about toe-tapping?

  15. McWars Says:

And, BTW, he is not gay, has never been, gay

It depends on what your definition of "gay" is. He has sex with other men but he's not happy about it. Hence the not gay thing.

  17. Uncle Ho Says:

How long before our gay-expert troll(Daryll) pops in?

  18. Tweedster Says:

Craig: “Current policy has served us well. I think we ought to sustain it. I see no evidence that it should be repealed."

The dismissal of well-qualified service members notwithstanding.

  19. Zimzone Says:

Some estimates gauge our military personnel losses at 10,000.

We know many of the Arabic translators were dismissed for this.

Maybe Larry Craig is confused, thinking it was 'Don't ask, don't smell.

I mean, sex in a bathroom sure can't smell good...

    Shayne, that was priceless.

Who would you rather have watching out for you in the battlefield, any lesbian or Daryll?

  22. Shayne Says:

    Aw shucks. Thanks ralph.

I'd really like him to come out and just say it.

"I'm Bi, I've been Bi for a long time, I like to go both ways, a real switch hitter!"

  25. RUCerious Says:

Notice that Zooey is absent from the discussion.

The poor woman lives in the state represented by this clown.

Notice I didn't say he represents her, I just know better than to do something dumb like that!

  26. tom Says:

I think Daryl knows that he'd be lucky to have a gay soldier in the foxhole with him -- he just doesn't want one in the next toilet stall.

    LOL

  27. MapleStreet Says:

Let me add to reasons I don't respect Craig: Anyone with a lick of sense and Craig's recent press would realize that their face attached to a comment on DADT would make them look entirely ludicrous.

    Apparently, he doesn't.

  28. oldtree Says:

Is this some kind of hit on military personnel? If one assumes he is gay based on his admission of knowing all the rules of gay bathroom sex and admitting to performing said rituals to a police officer, then he appears to be trolling with military gays for sex. Is he trying to arrange appointments for his retirement?

    Hey! Don't Ask, Don't Tell!!

    Oh the shame....

  30. misshusseinmolly Says:

I guess Larry Craig feels most comfortable with gays in the closet. That's probably where he likes them.

I would continue to support Don't Ask Don't Tell ONLY if heterosexuals were ALSO required to keep their sexual orientation and all details regarding their sex lives private. Having served myself, and having had to listen to endless stories of my shipmates' sexual exploits, I think such a measure would be a breath of fresh air for everyone.

  31. Zimzone Says:

Was that picture taken at the Airport or the Police Station?

  32. Oval12345678 aka James K. Sayre Says:

Fags against gays, huh? Kind of reminds me of a Berkeley-based satirical theatrical group in the 1970s called, "Ladies Against Women..."

  33. Leftside Annie Says:

Awww, now, Larry just wants a husky, strapping someone to jerk him around by his ...gas nozzle. ;o)

  34. tom Says:

Was that picture taken at the Airport or the Police Station?

Probably taken at the Airport Police Station. I don't think they detained Craig in Minneapolis because he had a very important appointment to keep in a Ronnie RayGun Airport restroom -- a meeting with Lindsey Graham, I think it was.

  35. Max-1 Says:

    .

"I am not gay. I have never been gay."
I just pled guilty to trolling for man sex in public restrooms...

THAT told us enough, Larry. We didn't even ask.

Why does Larry hate the gay troops?

... Answer: Because he hates himself.

  36. liberal traitor Says:

When asked about being a continual public embarassment to the GOP through his amazingly hypocritical statements, Sen. Larry Craig (R-Idaho) responded to CNSNews.com,

“Current policy has served us well. I think we ought to sustain it. I see no evidence that it should be repealed.”

A spokesman for Senator Obama (D-Ill.) was quoted as saying, "That's just FINE by us!"

  37. barfly Says:

Look guys, this juvenile "tap, tap" stuff has just about played out. It's not funny, or original, if five people immediately say the same thing, whenever a Craig thread is displayed.

How about dealing with the substance? I'd agree, don't ask don't tell has been effective, and we should expand it to include questions of religious and political afffiliation, as well. What would the Senator say about that?

  38. Wayne A. Schneider Says:

Sen. Larry Craig (R-Idaho) told CNSNews.com, “Current policy has served us well. I think we ought to sustain it. I see no evidence that it should be repealed.”

And who, exactly, does he mean by "us"? The right-wing socially conservative zealots hell-bent on destroying America?

This is the man who not only recently said that we ought to tell foreigners to "quit jerking us around by the gas nozzle," but he also greeted the reporters who showed up at his mini-press conference to deny he was gay with, "Thank you for coming out today." He should have just added, "I won't be."

  39. Wayne A. Schneider Says:

“Current policy has served us well. I think we ought to sustain it. I see no evidence that it should be repealed.”

None so blind as though who will not see.

  46. spencers mom Says:

Craig, Vitter, etc. suffer from what I refer to as "post-orgasmic morality" which is so very popular among the Born Agains and Wingnuts.

More of a "rupture" than a "rapture"

    PEACE

  47. liberal traitor Says:

Disagree with you there barfly. Any military person should be free to be open about who they are, that includes sexual orientation, political affiliation, religious beliefs (or lack thereof) etc etc and it should not affect them in any way career wise on and on.

Anyone who wants to serve should be allowed and they should not have to hide who they are to do so (with obvious exceptions like violent felons).

  48. IgnoranceIsNotBliss Says:

40+ coments and no Daryll. What's he doing? Shaking the devil or something like that?

  49. Linus Says:

Sen. Larry Craig, you may "see no evidence that it [Don't Ask, Don't Tell] should be repealed,” but the real question, sir, is: Is there any evidence that DADT should have been enacted in the first place? And the answer to that is a resounding, NO!!

  50. Hemlock for Gadflies Says:

I can hear the Drill Sergeant now...

"Men, I don't care how narrow your stance is. Senator Larry 'Most Def Not Teh Gay' Craig says your service is not needed."

  51. lokidog Says:

    Just in:

Upon closing the sessions, Craig announced he will be proposing HR 6969: "The DO Ask And, Please, DO Tell Bill", applicable only to specified areas confined within the parameters of airports, shopping malls, sports stadiums and other new and exciting venues yet to be determined.

  54. curious Says:

This man is from OZ. You would think he would keep his head down and his mouth shut. The key word is THINK. If his constituents could think, or demand at the very least some dignity and discretion in the people they elect, but I guess not. But if dignity, or discretion, or honesty were paramount, none of these legislators would be in office.

  55. Doc Rock Says:

    Whatta a creep!

  56. the brown acid Says:

    Daryll Says:

I concur with Sen. Craig. Also, libs stop ensuating that he is a homosexual. There is no proof that he was soliciting a male prostitue. Tapping in the bathroom in common. I been known to tap of few tunes of Jesús loves me in the restroom on the feet of other men. Grow up and move on.

  57. Uncle Ho Says:

Daryll; I'd just love to see you trying to spin your toe-tapping to the police when they bust you for it.

Daryll to cop; well, uh, you see officer, it was like this, I was toe-tapping to Jesus loves me when you busted me. I swear I was signalling my man-love to the guy in the next stall. You misunderstood, see?

  58. the brown acid Says:

Daryll when do you plan to introduce us to your Latin loverboy, Jesús?

  59. Nashoba nowa Says:

and let us not forget that he is a cosponsor of Senator Roger Wicker's Marriage Protection Act, hypocrisy at its best.

  60. scytherius Says:

The only thing more stupid and disgusting than Larry Craig are the people that voted for him.

  61. IALib Says:

I loved his recent senate speech about "jerking someone around by the gas nozzle."

  62. zuch Says:

Of course "Crazy Legs" Craig supports "Don't Ask, Don't Tell". He certainly doesn't want you to ask, and he sure as hell ain't gonna tell....

    Cheers,

  63. zuch Says:

    #55 Daryll:

We believe you. Really. I have no doubt you tap "Jesus loves me, why don't you?" when you're feeling down. And sometimes those nice people in the next stall feel the rapture and they do too....

    Cheers,

P.S.: Had to "recommend" this post of Daryll's, folks. Do you need better proof that Daryll's a spoof?

  64. nofltwlt Says:

    Larry from "Poke-a-fella Idaho" Craig?

  65. Max-1 Says:

    .

    Darryll said:

...stop ensuating that he is a homosexual. There is no proof that he was soliciting a male prostitue....

Darryll honey, when a man pleads guilty to soliciting another man for sex in a public restroom, you can bet he wasnt taking a crap...

Darryll, "we" aren't insinuating that Craig is gay, he admitted it himself... HE TOLD. We NEVER ASKED!

    Darryll, then riddle us this:
Why would a man plead guilty to a crime he never committed...?
Why would the man who plead guilty to the crime he never committed, offer that officer a bribe to quiet away the charges...?

Darryll, would you do the same, plead guilty to a crime you never committed... offer a strong armed bribe in exchange to make the confession go away?

Darryll, why defend what you, yourself, are incapable of doing?

Darryll, lastly... who said it was a prostitute Craig solicited, besides you? All evidence clearly shows us that it was a Vice Officer... You got something against Vice Officers that you need to call them prostitutes?

    .

  66. Robt Says:

Leave it to the GOP to make larry boy the lead toe tapper on this issue.

  67. Democrat Soldier Says:

Sen. Craig is trying to turn back time and take back his admission that he's a closeted gay man. Some things just can't be taken back, and this is one of them.

Unfortunately for Sen. Craig, even the members of the military are willing for DADT to be overturned and allow gay people to serve openly in the military.

    http://www.csmonitor.com/2007/1204/p03s01-usmi.html

"A Zogby survey of soldiers returning from Iraq and Afghanistan found that 73 percent reported being "personally comfortable in the presence of gays and lesbians," and only 37 percent want to keep the current policy."

When both the American public AND members of the military want a failed policy to be changed to extend equal rights to gay Americans, then the GOP is truly the party of regressive values.

  68. jay_severin_has_a_small_pen1s Says:

How about a 'Two taps, one taps' policy?
