Novak’s victim in worse condition than first thought.»

After Robert Novak struck a pedestrian in his black convertible this morning, news outlets reported that the victim suffered only “very minor injuries.” But D.C.’s ABC affiliate WJLA now reports that the pedestrian “is in worse shape than first thought.” The 66-year-old male victim “appeared somewhat incoherent, said the source who had seen the victim. The man appeared to have casts on his neck and back. The victim was X-rayed and a surgical team plans to evaluate him, the source said.”

UpdateRaw Story notes that Novak was “issued a $50 citation after hitting a pedestrian while driving in downtown Washington.”

    - - Ever the cynic, I wouldn’t be surprised if the victim’s conditioned worsened when he found out who the deep-pocket bastid was that hit him.

  2. Oval12345678 aka James K. Sayre Says:

Being sixty-six years old myself, and a former bicyclist to boot, I feel sorry for anyone hit by a car driver. And being hit by a stupid right-wing pig like Novak driving his groovy black Corvette probably doesn’t help.

O/T: RE: McGaffe: “And he spoke gaffe, gaffe, gaffe, until they took the nomination away…” (sung to the Beach Boys’ song, Fun, Fun, Fun).

  3. cjmartinez Says:

They had to evacuate him from all the lawyers throwing business cards at him (I think I have one on me, by the way).

  4. IgnoranceIsNotBliss Says:

And all Novak received was a ticket for failing to yield. Priceless.

  5. stateofthedivision Says:

The surgical team evaluation indicates something considerable. The dangers of anesthesia for a 66 year old man must be weighed against the benefits of any procedure. I lost a friend on the OR table several months ago.

I hope/pray for the victim’s recovery and for a thorough police evaluation of the accident. If a liberal columnist did such a thing, Bob Novak would expect likewise.

  6. Bobwurst Says:

Well, we found out how old vampires catch their prey anyhoo.

  7. tom Says:

And all Novak received was a ticket for failing to yield. Priceless.

Look at the bright side of things. At the White House, GDumbya gives out Medals of Freedom to those who “fail to yield” (to the truth, to Congressional subpeonas, etc.).

It could be worse, Novakula could have gotten a medal rather than a ticket.

  8. StratRat Says:

This is not over….It is too new to fully grasp what is happening. The more infomation that gets out, the worse it will be for Novack. Stay tuned….

Also #3 cjmartinez, very funny. I was imagining him almost getting soffocated from all the business cards whizzing by. Someone could have got a paper cut. Maybe I should send him one of my cards. I’d love to travel to DC.

  9. misshusseinmolly Says:

I’m still puzzled as to why Novak hit and run. I don’t for a minute buy his explanation that he wasn’t aware that he had hit anyone — NOBODY could be that obtuse — so why drive away without checking to see what damage he caused?

It’s not like his career would be in any jeopardy — he’s not running for office or anything. Any anyone whose fate doesn’t lie directly in the hands of the voters is never held accountable for anything, particularly if they are politically conservative.

Was it just arrogance? Did he figure that nobody else was as important as he was? Was he in a hurry? There must be SOME reason why he would do such a stupid thing.

  10. RUCerious Says:

Let’s see if this gets him a charge of vehicular assault, reckless driving and driving under the influence of bad breath.

  11. upside99 Says:

I almost don’t care about the criminal proceedings; the civil suit will be in the 8 to nine figures.

    An absolute lawyer feeding frenzy!

    Heh heh

  12. sectionop92 Says:

I have a strong craving to watch the episode of “Home Movies” where Brendon gets hit by the car, then goes to court and makes everything 50x’s worse.

  13. Baal Says:

I suspect that the victim shows signs of profound exsanguination that are surprising for a collision with the car. I recommend looking for two small puncture wounds in the neck.

  14. Zimzone Says:

If, indeed, as the bicyclist who stopped Novak from running & hiding, the pedestrian was ’splayed’ on the ‘Vette’s windshield, there will be dents, DNA, or other forensic signs of the impact.

Of course, if D.C. cops have already been contacted by Cheney, it’s a ‘dead’ issue.

  16. Buckie Boy Says:

50 bucks? A hit and run is a felony, not just 50 bucks, but the lawsuit sure is going to be more than 50 bucks.

He had to have known he hit him, ANYONE who drive a Corvette knows when ANYONE even breaths near their car. We Corvette owners are very careful with them, mine has never been uncovered for more than an hour (except when driving), it is never driven in the rain (Seattle too). So believe me he knew he hit him.

  17. Dr. Hussein Matt Says:

Let us not forget, besides hating America, Novak is ON record about his hate for jaywalkers:

In 2001, he cursed at a pedestrian on the corner of Pennsylvania Avenue and 13th streets Northwest for allegedly jaywalking.

“’Learn to read the signs, [bodily orifice]!’ Novak snapped before speeding away,” according to an item in The Washington Post’s Reliable Source column.

Novak explained to the paper: “He was crossing on the red light. I really hate jaywalkers. I despise them.
Since I don’t run the country, all I can do is yell at ‘em. The other option is to run ‘em over, but as a compassionate conservative, I would never do that.”

  18. Dr. Hussein Matt Says:

Oops, I forgot to bold the most important part…..

Novak explained to the paper: “He was crossing on the red light. I really hate jaywalkers. I despise them. Since I don’t run the country, all I can do is yell at ‘em. The other option is to run ‘em over, but as a compassionate conservative, I would never do that.”

  19. Keith H. Says:

The DMV needs to start re-testing people as they get to be ‘of the geeze’.
For things that are important to being able to drive safely. You know, find out if they can see more than three feet in front of their nose.
Find out if it takes them 30 seconds to react to a potential accident that appears in front of them.
    Those kinds of things.

  20. regular_joe Says:

First “Dead Eye” Dick Cheney shoots his friend in the face, and now Novakula flips out and runs some old guy down in his ‘vette.

Over the past few years, it seems that regressives in and out of government have become dangerously unhinged.

Perhaps it’s time to put these reprobates in a place where they can’t hurt innocent people.

  21. Dr. Hussein Matt Says:

Well, we have more proof that Novak is part of the drive by media.

    *snicker*

  22. KEVKEV IN APACHE JUNCTION Says:

    Was Novak’s victim was a C.I.A. operative!

  23. pete Says:

Politics and lawsuit aside. If someone’s excuse for hit and run is “I didn’t know I hit him”? Said someone should never, ever, be allowed to drive again.

  24. Buckie Boy Says:

Ok, one thing here is odd…a Vette owner would have stopped just to see the what damage was done to the Vette…no, I kid you not…I am surprised he did not stop, examine the scratches on his paint and start yelling at the guy for damaging his car.

  25. BuckarooBanzai Says:

#9: Only 1 way he wouldn’t know. With DC streets the condition they are, if Novak WASN’T looking (perhaps dialing his phone, bb), he MIGHT be clueless enough, but I doubt it. BTW, DC is hands free. I would have asked about that.

Officer: So why didn’t you see the pedestrian? Were you distracted by dialing a phone?

Novak: Sorry, I just don’t see the ‘little’ people…

…but…but…but…according to the bicyclist witness, this 66-year old guy was in a crosswalk! With a “WALK” sign! Could it be that Novak thinks that ANY pedestrian is a jaywalker?

  27. ucsbclassics53 Says:

Such a compassionate conservative that he outed Valerie Plame, causing the deaths of those who worked with her in other countries…I’m sure the victims are appreciating compassionate conservatism…

  28. Buckie Boy Says:

So, I think Pete is right…Novak probably really didn’t know he hit him, and should not be driving.

  33. BuckarooBanzai Says:

  34. BuckarooBanzai Says:

  35. pete Says:

    Buckie Boy:

That’s not exactly what I meant. In fact, I’m quite certain he DID know he hit the man, and tried to run. This is a person who, like his cohorts, has never accepted responsibility for any action. My point is that someone who offers such a lame excuse, even if true, should never drive again and should probably be incarcerated.

  36. spencers mom Says:

Novak was p*ssed about Rep. Hunter not being allowed to bag an endangered animal in Chad, and figured he’d just go bag something in D.C. for him instead.

Guess Novak didn’t figure on the guy getting up…

    PEACE

  37. Uncle Ho Says:

  38. Uncle Ho Says:

    When will the peasants learn?

  40. JaneaneTheAcerbicGoblin Says:

Novak figures Bush will pardon him, considering Novak outed a CIA agent and jeopardised national security for political reasons to help Bush.

Also, the pedestrian was a known liberal blogger, so hitting him made Bush extra happy. Karl Rove sent a sympathy card, and Cheney sent a rifle.

This is snark, by the way.

  41. KEVKEV IN APACHE JUNCTION Says:

I would like to introduce a motion to rename TP trolls as Harpies. Big birds that look like hideous women and crap all over the table when one sits down for a meal. Then fly away, afraid of being confronted.

  47. Dr. Hussein Matt Says:

    Prytania/Southernidiot

    Flagged

  48. Uncle Ho Says:

Prytania-flagged for going waaaaaay off topic, the thread was about Novak and his victim, nothing to with Edwards, besides, count 2 for flagging was for being an idiot.

  49. pete Says:

And just to ease the curiosity of today’s harpy:

It doesn’t matter, in the slightest, what you post anymore. You have demonstrated that you are unfit for human society and have nothing to offer. Eventually, the TP staff will get tired of being forced to read your inane posts and you will have to create a new sock puppet. Then your idiocy will get the “new” one banned. I fail to see why you fail to see you are useless.

  50. pete Says:

Poor harpy. Wasn’t invited to, and didn’t get to read all the insightful posts from, the invasion of the sock puppets. Even the GOOPERS have no use for it. How sad.

  51. StratRat Says:

The troll (Harpie) just doesn’t get it. Do you often stay where you are not welcome?

Just a quick bit of advice from someone who stands on stage every once in a while: When the audience pelts you with rotten fruit, you may want to look for the exit. Grab your gear and goooooooooo!

  53. pete Says:

I’m sure the RePugniScums will call it an attempted “Suicide By Conservative”…

Here’s the next political propaganda talking point from the RePugniScums:

“The guy jumped out in front of Novak to make a political point. He was a liberal and deserved his injuries.”

  56. pete Says:

If one is actually clever enough to understand my posts, one would notice that I don’t argue with trolls. I denigrate them as the childish vandals they are. It has nothing to do with content. It’s about style, or lack thereof.

I have no patience with twisted little children in need of a spanking, or a crack in the mouth. I’m, also, not a Edwards fan or a “librul”. I’m a former conservative who is utterly disgusted by the crimes against this nation, and humanity, Bushco has perpetrated in our names. Again, this is apparent to anyone with the wit to comprehend.

  57. kassandrasduplex Says:

At least this pig got more than Laura Bush got after killing her boyfriend while running through a stop sign in 1963…

  58. Bilbo Hussein Baggins Says:

If this was anyone other than Novak, the driver would have been cited for leaving the scene. That’s a pretty heavy crime. Also, if the pedestrian was walking on a green light, that means that Novak ran a red light. Why wasn’t he cited for that?

  59. Bilbo Hussein Baggins Says:

  63. KEVKEV IN APACHE JUNCTION Says:

George Jones - The One I Loved Back Then
    (The Corvette Song)

I stopped off at the Quick-sack
    for some beer and cigarettes
the old man took my money
as he stared at my corvette
He said I had one just like her son
    in 1963
‘Til a man down at the bank took her from me

    Chorus:
Oh, she was hotter than a two dollar pistol
she was the fastest thing in town
long and lean every young man’s dream
she turned every head in town
she was built, and fun to handle son
I’m glad that you walked in
she reminds me of the one I loved back then

So I handed him my keys and said here take her for a spin
the old man scratched his head, and then he looked at me and grinned
He said son, you just don’t understand
it ain’t the car I want
It’s the brunette in your Vette that turns me on

    Repeat Chorus

She reminds me of the one I loved back then
GET George Jones - The One I Loved Back

  65. tokin librul Says:

Only one relevant question: Did he stop?

If not, hit-and-run. Major felony time.

    Nyuk

  66. Evil Spaniard Says:

After Robert Novak struck a pedestrian in his black convertible this morning…

No doubt the convertible has red leather seats, and the horses in his “horsepower” are black. Heck, probably the “convertible” is a coffin on wheels.

  67. Doc Rock Says:

    Hit and Run!!!!!

  68. WaltTheMan Says:

The real irony of this story is that David Bono is a lawyer. Does pro bono ring a bell in anyone’s mind?

  69. Keith Says:

If you read the transcript, Novak tells the reporters first:

ABC 7 News: Was it a male or female pedestrian?

    RN: I don’t know.

And then a little later says:

RN: He’s not dead, that’s the main thing. So, I, ah.. He’s in the hospital.

    That’s contradictory!

    http://cfc.wjla.com/ external.cfm?p=novaktranscript

Also, how can he not be cited for hit and run? Police just take your word for anything with all evidence to the contrary? Not any police I ever met.

And thirdly, aren’t those cars phallic!

And fourthly, why hasn’t there been a troll mentioning Ted Kennedy and 1969?

  70. Shayne Says:

    Jim Wilke Says:

    “How are you doing?”

    “Fine.”

“Did you know the guy who hit you is a TV newsman?”

    “MY NECK!! MY BACK!!”

    I smell lawsuits!!

And you know this how? You don’t. And if you run down a pedestrian in cold blood and flee the scene of the accident the civil suit should be the least of your worries. He should be looking for a criminal attorney taking blood tests and breathalyzers, having his cell phone and GPS history evaluated. And THEN the scumbag should be sued for all he’s worth mostly for all the bad KARMA he’s accrued.

  71. enough Says:

This is an outrage! How dare this arrogant, self-righteous, conceited, bombastic blowhard of a pedestrian hit Bob’s Corvette!?! The man should be imprisoned (perhaps Guantanamo)immediately upon recovery.

Our Fox team has learned the facts behind the attack of the LEFTWING pedestrian who earlier today conducted a full bodied attack Mr. Novak’s black Corvette. We will bring you the true facts behind the terroist’s actions tonight on the Exactor Report. You will learn of the LIBERAL MEDIA’s false claim that Mr. Novak hit a pedestrian. Outreageous LIBERAL LIES! Had Mr. Novak not been quick to act heroically by stopping his car and chasing down the culprit, witnesses say the man would have run away from the scene of his crime, only to strike again at the next unsuspecting American motorist. The LIBERAL MEDIA and their Bloggers didn’t tell you that! Even as we report we are sending the FOX COPS to those LEFT-WING news outlets to round up the EVIL DOERS who distort the news as they continue their partisan attacks on good wholesome, upstanding Americans like Mr. Novak! Stay tuned for updates as we battle for fairness in reporting only the facts!
