Politico reports that conservative pundit Robert Novak “was cited by police after he hit a pedestrian with his black Corvette in downtown Washington, D.C., Wednesday morning.” Novak initially “drove away from the scene,” but turned around when “a bicyclist stopped him and said, ‘You hit someone.’” Novak claimed: “I didn’t know I hit anybody.” But Washington DC’s local ABC affiliate interviewed the bicyclist who saw the incident. WJLA’s Suzanne Kennedy reported live from the scene:
I just spoke with the bicyclist about three minutes ago. He tells me that the pedestrian was actually splayed across the front of Novak’s convertible, and that there would be absolutely no way Novak would have not known that he had hit someone.
Watch it:
Politico notes that in a 2001 interview with the Washington Post, Novak said, “I really hate jaywalkers. I despise them. Since I don’t run the country, all I can do is yell at ‘em. The other option is to run ‘em over, but as a compassionate conservative, I would never do that.”

He should be in jail for treason anyway. He is a traitor!
July 23rd, 2008 at 12:35 pmA lying reich-wing criminal!? Say it isn’t so!

July 23rd, 2008 at 12:37 pmNovak initially “drove away from the scene,” but turned around when “a bicyclist stopped him and said, ‘You hit someone.’
There’s that hallmark Novak integrity, we’ve all come to know these past decades. A beacon of conservative moral and ethical righteousness.
July 23rd, 2008 at 12:38 pmWith Novaks credibility in the toilet, this may just push him over the edge - and out of the business.
July 23rd, 2008 at 12:38 pmWhere are the security cams?!
Novak = low life loser
July 23rd, 2008 at 12:38 pmHere’s hoping for a full recovery of the pedestrian.
This is the grand way the reich nuts take to stick it urban life. If you’re outside of a convertible or a Chevy Suburban, beware.
July 23rd, 2008 at 12:39 pmNovak will be on faux tonight claiming that the bicyclist is secular progressive, terrarist-luvn’ librul!
July 23rd, 2008 at 12:39 pmalways good to be rich and white in this country.
July 23rd, 2008 at 12:40 pmI actually have a little sympathy for Novakula.
He ’s not used to being out in daylight, and he was undoubtedly speeding home to get to his coffin before he vaporized.
(That is what happens to vampires in daylight, right?)
July 23rd, 2008 at 12:41 pmHe knew exactly what he was doing by running away. When the witness/bicyclist caught up to Novak and blocked his path, Novak tried to get away. The witness said “you can’t hit a pedestrian and drive away”, to which Novak replied, “I didn’t see him“. He didn’t express surprise or confusion over what this seemingly crazy biyclist said to him, after chasing him down and cutting off his path? No. He replies, “I didn’t see HIM“…and in fact, the victim was a male. Draw you own conclusions.
July 23rd, 2008 at 12:42 pmCompassionate conservative?
Narrow minded, hot headed, ego maniacal, predatory, amoral, emotionally bankrupt, sycophant.
July 23rd, 2008 at 12:42 pmIt will be fascinating to watch how Novakula spins this situation so that HE is the real victim.
That being the right-wing way, of course.
July 23rd, 2008 at 12:42 pmI mean, really now, who should have the right-of-way in this situation?
1. the pedestrian in the walkway on a green light who isn’t using fossil fuel to get to where he’s going or
2. the hot-shot columnist driving his gas-guzzling penis-car.
[sarcasm off]
July 23rd, 2008 at 12:43 pmFrom the link, the witness Bono ” said the pedestrian, who was crossing the street on a “Walk” signal…”
And the retards will want the pedestrian to apologize to wacky Nowak for getting in his way.
July 23rd, 2008 at 12:44 pmIt was all a set up. The victim was part of a secret plot by Wilson/Plame to frame him and get his sorry arse in jail.
(Sarc off)
But that will be a story on Faux and the rusher 3 to 1 odds.

Why is a 90-year old , driving a Vette ?
Especially when his own eye-brows , blowing in the wind , are capable of blinding him ……………
July 23rd, 2008 at 12:48 pmIf Novak didn’t see either the walk sign of the pedestrian, chances are at his age his periferal vision is shot. He might even be blind in one eye, and “passing” as a normal driver.
The DMV should require him to be retested.

Since I don’t run the country, all I can do is yell at ‘em. The other option is to run ‘em over, but as a compassionate conservative, I would never do that.”
Actually, Novak, a “Compassionate Conservative” would have said it was the pedestrian’s fault for walking and being too poor to afford a black Corvette. He must have made the wrong choices in life, not least of which was walking in front of Bob Novak’s Deathmobile.
July 23rd, 2008 at 12:51 pmRalph,
Thanx, but the pattern of the Repugs make it so easy to see what’s coming.
July 23rd, 2008 at 12:51 pm“there would be absolutely no way Novak would have not known that he had hit someone”
Obviously some people forget how Novak’s lawyers operate.
July 23rd, 2008 at 12:51 pmWell, it’s quite obvious who is at fault here.
That filthy peasant got in the way, so Mr. Novak justifiably ran him down.
It was clearly the peasant’s fault for being in Mr. Novak’s way. Mr. Novak is a very important man, and his time is much more valuable than any filthy peasant who thinks that he has the right of way to cross the street on a green light!
Shame on him. They should fine that stupid peasant for delaying Mr. Novak and wasting his valuable time!!
July 23rd, 2008 at 12:53 pmPress charges and nail this traitor’s ass.
July 23rd, 2008 at 12:54 pmIf Novak could just get someone else, to admit hitting the guy first…
July 23rd, 2008 at 12:54 pmWhoa! Novak has a McCain size, super colossal temper. He’s still carrying the rage from yesterday’s McCain campaign little trick to get Novak to pre announce McCain’s Veep! I say lock Novak up! I’d love to see McCain in the same cell, but McCain needs a muzzle and a straight jacket to get him under ocntrol.
July 23rd, 2008 at 12:54 pmCarrying McCain’s VP rumor water must have been blocking Novak’s vision.

July 23rd, 2008 at 12:56 pmconservative pundit Robert Novak
So much for the conservative love of the concept of “personal responsability”.
July 23rd, 2008 at 12:57 pmWill Novak bribe the pedestrian to apologize through the press “for everything he’s put Robert though”?
July 23rd, 2008 at 12:58 pmwait - if the pedestrian was in the crosswalk on a WALK light,
novak ran a red.
July 23rd, 2008 at 12:58 pmCheck the tire tracks says Novak’s attorney, Jerry Callo. The car had posi-traction. It was definitely a metallic, mint-green Buick Skylark . . . which can never be confused with a corvette.
Man, during my midlife crisis (es) I couldn’t afford a fast car. I just went to Trover’s and bought a lot of whacking material.
July 23rd, 2008 at 1:01 pmWell, Bob Vader, I hate jaywalkers too, and on a daily basis during my commute into and out of DC, I’ve had thoughts of running over a few of them as well — particularly the ones who give me the finger whenever I beep the horn at them to warn them that they’re crossing against a red light. But being a “compassionate progressive”, I’d never do that — so it just remains a thought.
We certainly have a serious problem with jaywalkers here in DC. But that problem won’t be solved by running someone over who is (a) in a crosswalk and, more importantly (b) crossing on a “walk” signal. But I guess the Bobinator and his ilk don’t see it that way — any of the “little people” that are in their way at any time, for any reason, must be run down and eliminated, so that there’s a decrease in the surplus population…
Here’s hoping they lock his a$$ up and that they find Rush Limpballs’s oxycodone in his glove box…but I won’t hold my breath…

July 23rd, 2008 at 1:12 pmYou mean Novak didn’t want to take responsibility and tried to get away? How typical.
July 23rd, 2008 at 1:13 pmLet’s see — Novak in his low-to-the-ground, sport suspension, babe magnet can hit a pedestrian without knowing it. I, in my Toyota Corolla, can feel it when I run over an empty Coke can. I find it difficult to believe that Novak could hit anything as large as a person and not know it.
If it comes down to having to choose between the word of Novak or bicyclist who witnessed the accident, I’d go with the bicyclist.
July 23rd, 2008 at 1:15 pmOh, I so call bullsh!t on Novak. I drive a 2004 Vette and they are low to the ground. There is no friggin’ way that he could have hit ANYTHING let alone a PERSON and NOT have known he hit something.
Dumb a$$!!
July 23rd, 2008 at 1:16 pmNo personal responsibility whatsoever. This 77-year old kid in his Corvette can’t own up to knowing that he hit a pedestrian (see the article—he does say “I didn’t see HIM”) and tries to flee. A fine example you and your ilk are to our youth, Novak.
July 23rd, 2008 at 1:18 pmAnyone want to bet that he WAS NOT charged with leaving the scene?
July 23rd, 2008 at 1:18 pmTMZ reports, “The pedestrian, a man in his 60s, was taken to George Washington University Hospital with minor injuries.”
Novak simply hate those youngster brats, speeding with their walking canes.

July 23rd, 2008 at 1:27 pmSo when is the pedestrian going to apologize?
That’s the Repugnicunt way. Poor Bobby is going to maybe show up in court and waste his precious time with this nuisance. Give the guy $1 million and tell him to move on, Bobby is too busy to trifle with some low life’s problems.
And what is this failure to yield bullshit? Sounds to me, given his previous statements and intent, that this is an aggravated assault, hit and run and maybe attempted homicide.
July 23rd, 2008 at 1:31 pmMy husband got me one in June of ‘04 and I love it. If the lease on my cadi hadn’t been up, I wouldn’t have the Vette.

July 23rd, 2008 at 1:32 pmWaPo says the citation that Novarse was issued was for “failure to yield” — NOT for hit and run. Ummmm…where I learned to drive, if you hit someone with a car, motorcycle or any motorized vehicle and then leave the scene, that’s hit and run.

July 23rd, 2008 at 1:33 pmMust be nice to be a neocon and be able to buy your way out of a felony into a misdemeanor within minutes of the transgression…
Bush has done away with the rule of law, we are now ruled by men such as Novakula. It make sense that he gets away with a felony hit and run; Bush has been getting away with felonies for 7+ years already.
Hopefully the coming civil suit will bring about justice.
July 23rd, 2008 at 1:36 pmNovak’s denials remind me of a Congressman we had a few years back here in North Carolina.
In 1994, as part of the Republican sweep knows as “Contract With America”, the 2nd district here in NC elected a Repub named David Funderburk to the U.S. House.
During his term, Funderburk and his wife were driving down a rural road in the county where they lived. Funderburk’s vehicle crossed the double yellow line and ran a truck off the road that was traveling in the opposite direction. The truck spun off the road and down an embankment.
The Funderburks continued on their way, leaving the scene. They returned awhile later with Mrs. Funderburk in the driver’s seat. Witnesses to the accident (as well as the occupants of the truck run off the road) told police that it was MR. Funderburk who had been behind the wheel at the time of the accident. Of course, nobody recognized him as a Congressman at the time.
Once the story hit the wires, public opinion gained steam. Some media went with the witnesses’ version — that Funderburk had been driving, ran the other truck off the road, panicked at the thought of being caught, drove away from the scene until he got to a fairly secluded location, switched places with his wife in order to protect his career, and drove back.
Other media shilled for the Funderburks and reported their propaganda — that Mrs. Funderburk had been driving all along, and after the impact she just wanted to find a safe place to turn around.
Public opinion bought the witnesses’ story. Funderburk wound up pleading no contest to various charges associated with the accident, but he explained that as “I don’t want to put my wife through the horror of a trial.” When he ran for re-election, he didn’t win.
It beats me how guys expect us to believe them.
July 23rd, 2008 at 1:42 pmI apologize for a previous post.
July 23rd, 2008 at 1:45 pmI ridiculed Mr. Novak sarcastically regarding his “compassionate conservativism” and I feel terrible for it.
He was actually quoted at the scene of the hit and run as saying.
“He’s not dead, that’s the main thing.”
I knew the NEOCONS cared all along they just have a hard time expressing it.
“He’s not dead, that’s the main thing.”

As opposed to Novak, who wouldn’t recognize the truth if it was still hanging by its jaws from his butt.
July 23rd, 2008 at 2:01 pmMore from TMZ: “Novak, who was citied for failing to yield, says he won’t fight the ticket, adding, ‘I assume witnesses are telling the truth.’”
He must be assuming the witnesses are all liberals, because if he thought they were conservatives, he would not make that assumption.

But he hits someone and says he can’t see them on his windshield.
According to the linked story, “he then made a right into the service lane of K Street”
Now I’m not that familiar with K Street. But can anyone from DC clarify if there is any logical reason he would have diverted into the service lane ?

Now wait a minute, people. Novak was fined $50. That’s a lot of money. And being tax dollars, some of that money is bound to find its way into our health care system, where it will be used to help defray the cost of caring for people like the man Novak hit.
So things aren’t as bad as they seem. In fact, the guy’s probably better off for Novak having hit him. He should probably send Novak a thank-you letter and some flowers. After all, Novak has endured enough stress and grief over this incident already, not to mention time lost at work.
God bless you, Robert Novak!
July 23rd, 2008 at 2:36 pmAnd I really don’t want to see a senior citizen driving a corvette.
July 23rd, 2008 at 2:37 pmtony and lido
If Novak was in jail where he belongs for his act of treason involving Valerie Plame, he wouldn’t have hit this man. To claim he didn’t know is pure bull. His license should be revoked. What the hell is someone as old as he is, doing driving a corvette? I hope a judge will throw his butt in jail, and that the person he hit sues him for every penny he owns. Put the bastard in the poor house.
July 23rd, 2008 at 2:41 pm“It was a slight clipping. The pedestrian hurt his shoulder. It was a slight injury, nothing serious,” the police spokesman said.
This is right up there with: It’s just a flesh wound.
July 23rd, 2008 at 3:15 pmNow I’m not that familiar with K Street. But can anyone from DC clarify if there is any logical reason he would have diverted into the service lane ?
And who was he going to see on K Street?
I’m in DC and can clarify; I went through the same intersection this morning (and every morning) on my way to work. At 18th & K NW in DC, you can only make a right turn from K St onto 18th to head north if you’re in the service lane; no right turn from the main roadway. That, and there’s construction at that intersection that has everything totally screwed up so you can’t continue straight from the service lane across 18th St.; you HAVE to turn right if you’re in the service lane on K St.
That being said, there’s still NO excuse for Novak hitting someone in the service lane, whether he was turning or not — given the one-lane situation and the construction in that area, speeds are routinely about 5 mph through there unless you REALLY are proceeding recklessly (hmmmmm….).
July 23rd, 2008 at 3:29 pmMan. If Jon Stewart doesn’t say something about a deushbag driving a Corvette…………….

July 23rd, 2008 at 3:32 pmThere were historical outbursts of arrogance and belligerency on Capitol Gang, there was the hissy fit on CNN, there was the outing of CIA agent Plame, there was his arrogance exploited this week by the McCain campaign - and now that arrogance and belligerency are out in public in his driving record — it is long past time for him to go. He’s old, he’s cranky, he’s not credible (if he ever was) — hmm, that might describe McCain as well.
July 23rd, 2008 at 3:39 pmNovak should go - he should just fade from the scene. Egotists like him never recognize when it is time for them to leave — so he will have to be told.
Go away!
Of course he knew. He just did not expect the cyclist to have seen him. Just as he tries to weasel out of everything he does. This man has no honor. None.
July 23rd, 2008 at 3:42 pmThe pedestrian Novak hit donated money to the Obama campaign. It sounds like a Karl Rove strategy though I’m not sure that running down supporters of the opposition is the best way to win an election.
July 23rd, 2008 at 3:53 pmHe’s old, he’s cranky, he’s not credible (if he ever was)
Marie,
When Novak had a column and TV show with his then-partner, Roland Evans, their column and show (both officially called “Evans and Novak”) was known inside the beltway as “Errors and No-facts”. Credibility has never been an issue with Novak, because he never had any to begin with.

Just like when Barbara Bush said those people in the Superdome in New Orleans during Katrina- they never had it so good.
July 23rd, 2008 at 4:21 pmNovak’s been unstable for years.
It was only a matter of time until something like this happened.
Thank God no one was killed.
July 23rd, 2008 at 4:25 pmAnd I would’ve gotten away with it too if it wasn’t for those meddling kids!
July 23rd, 2008 at 4:37 pmI don’t care if it was around 10am. I would have made the geez wheeze into a breathalyzer.
July 23rd, 2008 at 5:20 pmI’m going back to Cali, Cali, Cali
I’m going back to Cali.. hmm, I don’t think so
I’m going back to Cali, Cali, Cali
I’m going back to Cali.. I don’t think so
Going back to Cali, stylin, profilin
July 23rd, 2008 at 6:45 pmGrowlin, and smilin, while in the sun
The top is down, on the black Corvette
And it’s fly, cause it’s sittin on Dayton’s
Laurents steering wheel, plushed
out, gold-leaf phantom top
and three girls waiting
VRRRROOM engine’s blowin, the chrome, is shining
Passing all the cars on the way
Movement of the wind, back wheels spin
Pop in a cassette and push play
I’m just glad Novak didn’t jump out & suck him completely dry. How is it that Novak was out during the day anyway?
July 23rd, 2008 at 6:57 pmMaybe all the crap that this moron has done will FINALLY CATCH UP WITH HIM!! If only!!! With the rest of the despicable Republicans!!!!!!
July 23rd, 2008 at 10:32 pmNovack in a Corvette! What’s the point? Beyond a midlife crisis!!!
July 23rd, 2008 at 10:39 pmAll funniness aside, isn’t that hit and run, plain and simple? Shouldn’t that be considered a somewhat more serious offense than to warrant a mere $50 fine, regardless of the seriousness of the injuries to the victim?
I say victim, because I’m assuming this 66-year-old man didn’t leap in front of Mr. Novak’s convertible. The witness says “a black Corvette convertible with top closed plows into the guy. The guy is sort of splayed into the windshield.”
Another witness says he asked the first witness what the commotion is about, and he replied, “This guy hit somebody and he won’t stop so I’m going to stay here until the police come”.
And we are to believe Mr. Novak’s claim that he didn’t realize he had hit someone?
July 23rd, 2008 at 11:01 pmI wish I was driving down the street and saw Novak within reach of my front bumper. There’d be one less neo-con in the world.
July 23rd, 2008 at 11:03 pmThe pedestrian Novak hit donated money to the Obama campaign. It sounds like a Karl Rove strategy though I’m not sure that running down supporters of the opposition is the best way to win an election.
That article doesn’t match with the report by Politico. They name Bono as the witness; the link you cite names Bono as the pedestrian. The Politico article says the pedestrian was an unidentified 66-year-old man.
July 23rd, 2008 at 11:04 pmImagine what would generally be a legal nightmare for an ordinary person who had an accident such as this. Hopefully he hit a lobbyist on his way to work.
July 24th, 2008 at 12:15 amMore than a few of the posts here remarked about someone Novack’s age driving a Corvette. The pedestrian should be glad he was. Where would he be if Novack were driving a SUV?
